United States decides to donate food to DPRK

     Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) -- The U.S. Government on Feb. 25 decided to donate 100,000 tons of food to the DPRK this year through the World Food Program.

GNP urged to stop begging for U.S. Forces' continued presence

     Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration reportedly issued on Feb. 22 a statement titled "The Grand National Party begging for the U.S. Forces' continued presence in South Korea should cease to exist". The statement accused the GNP of imploring for the continued presence of the U.S. Forces, murderers, in South Korea and talking about the "alliance" between South Korea and the U.S. at a time when all the South Koreans are trembling with bitter hatred for GIs' unabated crimes and the U.S. moves to launch a nuclear war.
    Explaining the reason why the GNP is so eagerly begging the U.S. Forces to remain in South Korea, the statement said that it is doing so because the changed times and the growing desire for national reconciliation have deprived its "protectors" of any justification to remain on this land any longer.
    The statement said the solidarity will carry on its fierce struggle until the GNP is thrown overboard if it persists in its acts of treachery and anachronistic acts.

Seminars held in different countries

     Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) -- Seminars on Kim Jong Il's idea and theory and army-based leadership exploits were held in Uganda, Nepal, Tanzania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, France, Portugal, Tajikistan from February 6 to 15 on the occasion of his birthday (February 16). Speakers at the seminars said that the Juche idea has been overall developed in depth by Kim Jong Il's energetic ideological and theoretical activities, so that it has become a foundation of policies of the DPRK party and state and a powerful ideological instrument for leading the cause of global independence.
    His army-based policy is representing the principle and requirement of the Juche idea, they said, stressing that the army-based policy will be glorified forever as the most correct political mode because it is based on the Juche idea.
    Saying that one of the U.S. purposes to stifle the DPRK through a nuclear racket is to prevent the DPRK army-based policy from influencing the world, they called for supporting and defending his army-based policy together with the Korean people.
    The Korean people, single-heartedly united around their leader and guided by the Juche idea, will achieve national reunification and build a powerful socialist nation, foiling all challenges and obstructive moves of the imperialists, they stressed.
    A congratulatory message and letter to Kim Jong Il were adopted at seminars in Ukraine and Kathmandu, Nepal.

Honorary citizenship to Kim Jong Il

     Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il was awarded an honorary citizenship by Lince district, Lima, Peru. Cesar Gonzalez Arrivasplata, governor of the district, handed certificate of an honorary citizen to the DPRK Ambassador to Peru with due ceremony on Feb. 18. The governor said that Kim Jong Il, a great thinker and theoretician and a distinguished political activist, is greatly contributing to the progress and prosperity of humankind and the development of friendly and cultural ties with the world people.
    We will make positive efforts to further promote friendship with the Korean people and expand economic and cultural exchanges in the future, he stressed.

DPRK vows to implement declaration of Copenhagen Summit on Social Development

     Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Government will continue enforcing the advantageous social policies in the interests of the people and consolidating and developing them and promote the exchange of experience and effective cooperation with the international bodies and other countries and thus sincerely implement the target of the declaration adopted at the un new millennium summit and the declaration of the Copenhagen Summit Meeting on Social Development. The DPRK delegate said this, addressing the 41st meeting of the un social development committee.
    He went on:
    Each government plays a decisive role in achieving social development. The experience of the DPRK proves that the government's political will related to the field of social development and the people's viewpoint on it and the policy on social development and its implementation are essential for this development.
    The DPRK has been able to invariably enforce social policies for the people even under the difficult economic conditions caused by the pressure and blockade of outside forces in recent years because it has shown constant state concern for the social wellbeing of the people and exerted positive efforts for it, regarding President Kim Il Sung's idea "believing in the people as in heaven" as a basic principle of the government policy and activity.

More U.S. aerial espionage committed against DPRK

     Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialist warhawks again let their strategic reconnaissance plane illegally intrude into the territorial air of the DPRK to spy on it on Feb. 26. RC-135 strategic reconnaissance plane that took off an overseas base made shuttle-flights in the air above the territorial waters in the East Sea of the DPRK between Musudan and Hodo peninsula for hours from about 8:25 on an espionage mission.
    This U.S. intrusion and espionage committed against the DPRK in the wake of its similar crime perpetrated on Feb. 24 are a wanton infringement on the sovereignty of the DPRK and a grave violation of international law as they are part of the U.S. imperialist warmongers' vicious moves to stifle the DPRK by force of arms.
    The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK warn that they would take a decisive self-defensive step against the intruders and provocateurs.

Sports masters increase in Korea

     Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) --The number of masters of sports has rapidly increased in Korea in recent years. In Juche 45 (1956) there were only thirteen masters of sports in the country. But now the number has reached some 3,250.
    Over the past eight years 1,280 athletes have won the degree of sports master.
    The rapid increase in the number of sports masters is attributable to ever growing state and public concern for the sports development.
    The " regulations on degree of master of sports" was enacted in the country on January 15, 1955 for the purpose of promoting the rapid sports development of the country, properly estimating athletes' talents and achievements and encouraging them to bring their political and ideological, physical and technical preparedness into full play.
    According to the regulations, those who distinguish themselves in sports activities are awarded the degree of sports master, as well as the titles of people's sportspersons and merited sport persons.

Candlelight demonstration in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) -- The All-People Measure Committee for Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son, schoolgirls killed by a U.S. armored car reportedly held the 89th-day candlelight demonstration at Kwanghwamun in Seoul on Feb. 22. The demonstration continued more than 1 hour.
    The demonstrators vowed to steadfastly continue the anti-U.S. candlelight march in the future. Han Sang Ryol, permanent representative of the committee, shouted slogans "long live national cooperation", "Long live national independence," "Long live the grand candlelight march".
    At the end of the demonstration, the committee declared a week of national independence, peace against war.
    The committee announced that it would hold a function for the day of action of people from all walks of life from Feb. 24 to 28 and stage a grand candlelight march on March 1.
    Meanwhile, anti-U.S., anti-war demonstrations were held in different parts of Seoul to oppose the Iraqi war by the U.S.

Implementation of June 15 North-South Joint Declaration called for

     Pyongyang, February 27 (KCNA) -- The historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, a declaration for national independence and the great unity of the Korean nation, provides a sure guarantee for tiding over the prevailing grave situation, defending the sovereignty of the country and the security of the nation and promoting the process of reconciliation and reunification, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.
