Day of Sun to be marked in Denmark
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- An inaugural ceremony of a preparatory committee for commemorating the day of the sun, the birthday of President Kim Il Sung was held in Copenhagen on March 15.
At the ceremony, Anders Kristensen, chairman of the Denmark-DPRK Friendship Association, said it is natural for not only the Korean people but also all their friends the world over to significantly commemorate the day of the sun, the tenth anniversary of Kim Jong Il's election as Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and the 71st birthday of the Korean People's Army.
The acute situation in which a war may break out any moment is prevailing on the Korean Peninsula due to the U.S. moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK, he noted, adding: All people in Denmark and the world will continue extending support and solidarity to the Korean people in their struggle to defend their sovereignty.
He was elected chairman of the preparatory committee at the ceremony.
Anti-U.S., anti-war peace campaign urged
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the National Reconciliation Council released a statement on Sunday, calling upon the fellow countrymen in the north and the south of Korea and overseas to more vigorously turn out in the anti-U.S., anti-war peace movement to prevent the danger of war facing the nation and defend the peace of the country and the security of the nation.
Noting that groundlessly provoking the north under the pretext of the U.S. start of Iraqi war, the South Korean authorities declared a "high alert posture" dubbed DRC-2, which can be issued only on the eve of a war, the statement branded it as a premeditated provocation to incite confrontation and distrust among the fellow countrymen and put the brake on the north-south relations favorably developing toward reconciliation and reunification.
They have been staging reckless war exercises against the fellow countrymen with the vast U.S. Armed Forces. Not content with it, they are now driving the situation to extremes under the unreasonable pretexts. This is a challenge to the aspiration and desire of the entire nation, the statement said, adding:
The South Korean authorities should be held wholly responsible for the grave consequences that their behavior will bring to the north-south relations.
Appeal of DPRK joint meeting hailed
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- The central standing committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) released a statement on March 22, fully supporting the appeal adopted at the joint meeting of the DPRK government, political parties and organizations. The statement called for waging a more vigorous struggle to defend the sovereignty and dignity of the nation in the idea of "by the nation itself" under the banner of the June 15 Joint Declaration and build an independent and prosperous, reunified country.
The appeal ardently called upon the 70 million fellow countrymen in the north and the south of Korea and overseas to pool efforts to safeguard the dignity and sovereignty of the nation and the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula under the uplifted banner of the joint declaration and thoroughly ensure the national cooperation in the idea of "by the nation itself".
The statement said that Chongryon would intensify the national unity among the compatriots irrespective of the difference in ideology, political view, religious belief and affiliation, under the slogan "Let us accelerate the independent reunification by the united efforts of our nation" and more valiantly join all the fellow countrymen in the struggle for peace against the U.S. and war.
U.S. imperialists' maneuvers assailed in S. Korea
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- Members of civic and public organizations in South Korea reportedly called a press conference in front of the South Korea-U.S. combined forces command on march 19, denouncing the U.S. imperialists' war moves. Among the organizations were the society of people working for peace and reunification, the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration and the Korean Catholic Priests' Association for Justice.
At the conference, the participants branded the Foal Eagle and Rsoi as war exercises directly targeted at the north in view of their scale and nature, which are increasing the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula.
The current joint military exercises can never be regarded as "defensive drills", when the forces involved there are compared with those participating in the invasion of Iraq, but they are, in actuality, a replica of the already suspended Team Spirit joint military exercise, they pointed out.
With this conference as an occasion, they would wage a vigorous struggle against the U.S. imperialists' war games, they declared, urging the authorities to check the U.S. military reinforcement.
American warmongers' reckless remarks under fire
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- James Kelly, U.S. assistant Secretary of State, said at a recent hearing of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee that North Korea would produce weapon-grade plutonium and highly enriched uranium in a matter of months and therefore, it is necessary to force it to scrap its program for the development of weapons of mass destruction.
Earlier, Rice, special assistant to the U.S. President for National Security, claimed in her ABC appearance that the maximum pressure should be put on North Korea to disarm it.
Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed commentary.
It goes on:
These remarks are little short of forcing the DPRK to yield to the U.S. pressure after forfeiting its right to self-defence and remaining bare handed.
The U.S. has, in fact, the world's poorest human rights record as it is beset with serious social and political issues at home including the issues of religious performance and racial discrimination, crimes related to the random use of guns and other weapons and narcotics and violence. Moreover, it mired in serious economic recession due to arms race.
The U.S. violation of human rights and infringement upon other countries' sovereignty are getting all the more serious worldwide due to the bush administration's high-handed and arbitrary foreign policy and its war policy.
This is eloquently proved by the Iraqi war, a war against humanity, started by the U.S. to acquire oil concessions.
If U.S. Congress truly wants to protect and represent the just interests of the U.S citizens, fairly judging this reality, it should, above all, properly check the Bush administration's war policy based on its cold war way of thinking.
The U.S. should drop its hostile policy toward the DPRK, too.
Anecdote about Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung visited Changdong-ri, Sukchon county, South Phyongan Province, in March Juche 62 (1973).
Learning that officials of the county had failed to push ahead with a water supply project in the village, he convened a meeting of officials concerned and criticized them for the lack of allegiance to the people. He then urged them to finish the project as early as possible.
An official told him that there was a reasonable way for water-supply service but they were in a state of indecision because the project would do away with hectares of arable land in the Ri a granary.
Kim Il Sung said the water supply service for the people was more important than several hectares of arable land. He also said the project should be started immediately and took necessary measures.
Three months later, he visited the village again to learn about how the project was finished. Leaving the village, he told an official accompanying him to take sample water.
After several days, the county's officials and villagers received an analysis of the water quality sent by the president.
Achievements in researches into railroad engineering
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- The railroad engineering branch of the Academy of Sciences has developed a method of waterway and tunnel construction by hardened concrete covering.
Researchers of the branch have invented a horizontal screw mortar sprayer operated between 150 kpa and 300 kpa. They have also made materials for rapid hardening of concrete covering with industrial leftovers and basic chemical materials.
The inventions were introduced in the Kaechon-Lake Thaesong Waterway Project to save several thousand mandays of labor, 550 tons of cement and large quantities of gravels, sand and wood and finish the covering of tunnels more than 60 days ahead of schedule.
The researchers have also reshaped the 100-ton freight car and reduced its weight more than five tons.
A portable welding rod which can be used without electricity and a welding machine, a heat-treated cast-iron braking device whose serviceable life is quintuple than other kinds and other effective inventions have also been made by the researchers of the branch.
S. Korean authorities flailed for deliberately escalating tensions
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- The South Korean authorities put all parts of South Korea on "high alert" dubbed "defense readiness condition 2" under the pretext of "north's possible provocation" after the U.S. start of the Iraqi war.
This is a despicable move to invade the north by force and an intolerable action to provoke a war, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary.
It goes on:
It is an anachronistic act of sycophantic treachery for the South Korean authorities to have proclaimed throughout S. Korea a "high alert posture" the kind of which can be seen only on the eve of a war, while raising a hue and cry over "possible provocation from the north" which has nothing to do with the Iraqi war.
The authorities are pushing the situation to the brink of a war siding with outsiders, far from cooperating and standing by their fellow countrymen who are exposed to the outside threat of aggression. This can not but be thrice-cursed perfidy to compatriots and cursed treachery to the nation.
The South Korean authorities can never flee from their responsibility for cooperating with outsiders in their moves to invade the north and thereby laying a stumbling block in the way of peace on the Korean Peninsula and the process of improving inter-Korean relations.
If the U.S. imperialists finally ignite a nuclear war against the DPRK, defying its efforts for the peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue, it will mercilessly punish the aggressors to protect the sovereignty and the right to existence of the nation, pursuant to the army-based policy, and the aggressors will not be able to go back alive. The U.S. and the South Korean warhawks are well advised to pay heed to the DPRK's warnings and stop at once the dangerous saber-rattling.
KCNA refutes U.S. Congress anti-DPRK "resolution"
Pyongyang, March 24 (KCNA) -- The U.S. House of Representatives reportedly adopted a "resolution on human rights in North Korea" calling for respecting and protecting human rights of North Koreans and decided to present it to the 59th meeting of the un commission on human rights.
It goes without saying that the resolution is full of nonsense as it is based on "testimonies" made by those renegades who fled overseas after committing crimes in the north and is laced with a whole string of stereo-typed vituperation made by the U.S. against the political system in the DPRK over the last half a century, pursuant to its hostile policy toward it.
What matters is that U.S. Congress adopted a separate resolution exclusively dealing with the human rights issue in the DPRK before the administration.
As universally recognized, the U.S. is waging the Iraqi war, defying the international community's opposition to the war and wantonly violating the spirit of the un charter.
The U.S. attack on Iraq, an independent sovereign state and a full-fledged member of the UN, is an infringement upon its sovereignty and a violation of human rights. Even at this moment a great number of innocent Iraqi civilians are falling victim to the U.S. missiles and other sophisticated weapons of mass destruction and suffering the most horrible disaster in view of humanitarianism.
That's why the majority of countries the world over are demanding the U.S. stop the war at once and prevent disaster in Iraq, terming the war a typical example of disregarding the international community and the world public opinion and violating international law.
The recent resolution adopted by U.S. Congress in the stead of the U.S. administration, and its decision to submit it to the un commission on human rights betray the U.S. sinister intention to project the human rights issue in the DPRK along with its nuclear issue, pursuant to the Bush administration's hostile policy toward the DPRK, in a bid to escalate its moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK internationally and divert the world condemnation of the Iraqi war elsewhere.
This means that the belligerent conservative hard-liners of U.S. Congress foolishly seek to focus the world attention on the DPRK under the pretext of its "human rights issue" by singling out it as de facto next target after the Iraqi war, pursuant to bush's "axis of evil" doctrine.
U.S. Congress claims to conduct law-making activities concerned about the global peace and human rights issue representing the constitutional rights and interests of the citizens of the United States of America. It is, therefore, tragedy and shame for such congress to betray its prejudice and hypocritical double-dealing nature in handling practical issues at home and abroad.
The U.S. has, in fact, the world's poorest human rights record as it is beset with serious social and political issues at home including the issues of religious performance and racial discrimination, crimes related to the random use of guns and other weapons and narcotics and violence.
