WPK Central Committee calls issued
Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea issued calls on April 9 in the run-up to the 55th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Papers here today carry the fall text of the calls.
The calls stress that the 55th founding anniversary of the DPRK will mark an important occasion to glorify the undying feats President Kim Il Sung, father of socialist Korea, performed in the state building and a grand political festival to demonstrate the invincible might of the country where the singlehearted unity with the headquarters of the revolution has been achieved and the people cast in their lot with socialism.

The single-hearted unity is the weapon of the Korean revolution more powerful than nuclear weapons, the calls say, and stress the need to devotedly protect the headquarters of the revolution headed by Kim Jong Il and strengthen the single-hearted of the party, the army and the people with him at the core.
The calls also stress the need to resolutely defend the socialist homeland of Juche and glorify it forever, preserve the Juche character and national character and adhere to the principles of socialism in all domains of the state activities and uphold his Songun policy with one mind and one will.
The calls say that the WPK is the heart of the society and its guidance is the lifeline of the revolution and construction, and underscore the need to build the WPK into elite ranks which breathe and act in accordance with his idea and will.
The calls stress the need to bring about a radical improvement in ideological work to meet the requirements of the revolutionary era of Songun policy, imbue the whole society with the revolutionary Songun idea and give full display to the Korean nation-first spirit.
Underscoring the need to build up the class position of socialism in the DPRK in keeping with the demands of the tense situation, the calls say:
Let us have transparent class consciousness against imperialism and the U.S. and foil the anti-DPRK, anti-socialist campaign of the U.S. imperialists.
Let us force Japan to pay for the past crimes of its imperialists as they inflicted immeasurable sufferings and pain upon our people and decisively smash the design of the Japanese reactionaries to reinvade our republic.
Let us strictly adhere to the revolutionary principle, class principle, in any circumstances with a high class judgment the calls say that the matchless military muscle is the national power to which the DPRK should give top priority and it provides a sure guarantee for the prosperity of the country.
The calls lay a particular stress on the full application of the party's idea of attaching importance to the military affairs in all domains of the revolution and construction.
The calls further say:
Let us increase in every way the nation's defence capabilities on the principle of giving priority to the military affairs. Let us build the people's army into the army of the party, the army of the leader and the army of the great comrade Kim Jong Il let the whole army become today's seventh regiment of devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution.
Let us devotedly fight for the respected supreme commander comrade Kim Jong Il.
All the officers and men of the People's Army, fully imbue yourselves with the Juche-based viewpoint on war and always keep yourselves fully ready.
Let us build up the People's Army as an invincible army, guided by the party's policy of turning the entire army into an army of cadres and modernizing the entire army. The members of the worker-peasant red guards and the young red guards are called upon to be fully ready to repel any surprise attack of enemies.

Underlining the need to bring about a new turn in agricultural production this year, they call for solving the food problem as early as possible by thoroughly implementing the party's policies on bringing about a radical turn in seed selection, potato farming and double-cropping.
The calls stress the need to radically boost the production of primary consumer goods for the people.
Calls underscore the need to build Pyongyang into a more magnificent city to meet the need of the new century, energetically carry out the land realignment in Pyongyang, South Phyongan Province and Nampho city and accelerate the Paekma-Cholsan Waterway project through a nationwide drive.
They also stress the need to thoroughly establish cultured practices in production and life as befitting a highly civilized people building a great prosperous power.

Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il was present at an aesthetics seminar of writers and artistes in January Juche 59 (1970).
A critic made a speech with words adopted from a foreign language. The participants could understand his speech because all of them were artistic experts.
But Kim Jong Il stopped his speech and criticized him of using borrowed words instead of home-grown words. He said it was a manifestation of the lack of the serve-the-people spirit to use words difficult for others to understand or words adopted from foreign languages.
Barnyard grass killer developed
Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) -- An institute under the Academy of Agricultural Science of Korea has succeeded in developing a new kind of microbial herbicide for killing barnyard grass.
According to researchers of the institute, chemical herbicide has been used to kill barnyard grass. But the toxicant is harmful not only to rice plants but also to human bodies and environment.
The newly developed herbicide has no harmful effect on them.
The researchers said that it proved successful in killing barnyard grass on some farms and its efficacy reached 80 to 95 percent.
New solution to select good breeds and seeds
Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) -- The faculty of applied mathematics of Kim Chaek University of Technology has found out a new mathematic solution to select good breeds and seeds in the best possible way.
Researchers of the faculty have applied this formula in selecting high-yielding grain seeds. As a result, the seeds they selected are the same with those obtained through comparative experiments for many years.
The formula can be introduced in many domains such as stockbreeding, fishery, sericulture, sports and art.
It can also be applied to economic sectors for their rational management.
Anti-SARS measures in DPRK
Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) -- A campaign is brisk in the DPRK to prevent SARS widespread in the world.
National and local hygiene guiding committees at different levels have been reorganized as headquarters for emergency prevention to start their work.
The headquarters make effective monitoring and information service to prevent even a single SARS-infected person from entering the country or even a single case from breaking out in the country.
A strict quarantine is going on at railway stations near borders, airports and trade ports. More medical workers are posted there and more equipment and appliances are also sent there.
Suspected foreigners are sent back or isolated and hospitalised for treatment. Persons on an official tour overseas are quarantined for medical observation for necessary days together with their families.

Ancient tomb discovered
Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) -- A tomb with a mural painting dating back to the period of Koguryo (277 b.c.-668 a.d.) was excavated in the DPRK recently.
The tomb was found on a hill at the foot of Kuksa Peak of Mt. Taesong, Pyongyang once the capital city of Koguryo.
There are on Mt. Taesong northeast of Pyongyang many tombs indicative of the proud history and culture of Koguryo.
The recently discovered tomb is seen lower than an usual one as a big part of it was destroyed and washed away with the passage of times.
The tomb is a one-chamber tomb with an aisle and a chamber.
The aisle was so inclined to the east that the eastern wall of the aisle and the eastern wall of the chamber stand on a straight line.
The chamber is rectangular in shape, 155 cm in east-west length and 270 cm in south-north length. Walls were built with thin layers of stones. They were whitewashed and smoothly plastered. A mural painting is seen on it.
Mysterious four guardians are depicted there.
Among the artifacts unearthed there are a gold earring ornament, silver ornament attached to the coffin, coffin nail whose head was gilded with silver, two miniatures of swords with ring-shaped grips and sheaths typical of Koguryo.
This tomb is worthy to study in view of its location, the content of the mural painting, a variety of artifacts and its architecture.
The relics discovered in the tomb are very instrumental in studying the highly developed craftmanship and arms workmanship in that period.
All-people resistance against U.S. called for
Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the National Democratic Front of South Korea issued a statement on April 19 on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the April Popular Uprising, said Seoul-based radio Voice of National Salvation.
He said that the April Popular Uprising was an eruption of the pent-up wrath of the South Korean people against the U.S. colonial rule and a daring manifestation of all people's desire and will to bring about an independent and democratic new politics, a new life.
The desire of the April 19 fighters 43 years ago has not yet been realized, he said, stressing: the present reality clearly shows that our people can neither be freed from the colonial yoke of slavery nor evade the holocaust of a nuclear war as long as the U.S. imperialist aggression troops remain in South Korea.

Pyongyang, April 21 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il enjoyed a music and dance performance given by artistes of the chorus of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Gnesin Music Academic Bayan Concert Group and the Mikhail Godenko State Krasnoyarsk Dance Company Academic of Siberia of Russia on April 20 at the invitation of the Russian embassy in Pyongyang.
