Implementation of June 15 joint declaration urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) -- Han Sang Ryol, permanent representative of the Reunification Solidarity for the Implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and Peace on the Korean Peninsula, was reportedly interviewed by a reporter of Tongil News on June 13 on the occasion of the third anniversary of the declaration.
He said that in the course of successfully holding south-north joint functions for three years he came to keenly realize that it is important for solving the issue of the nation for the Koreans to unite as one whenever he met with fellow countrymen in the north.
Recalling that the united states is getting more undisguised in its moves to start a nuclear war against the north and hamstring the implementation of the joint declaration and the South Korean authorities are involved in the moves, he dismissed the South Korea-U.S.-Japan cooperation pursuant to the U.S. unilateral policy is nothing but vicious cooperation for war and national ruin.
Noting that the only way out for the Korean nation is to implement the joint declaration, he called on the Koreans to pool efforts and unite in order to avert a crisis of nuclear war and defend peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Guarantee for normal service of Mangyongbong-92 called for
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) -- The South Korean Institute for True Education issued a statement on June 18 demanding the guarantee for the normal service of the ship Mangyongbong-92, according to a news report.
The statement said:
Recently the Japanese authorities persistently resorted to such discrimination and suppression of Koreans in Japan as putting restrictions on the Korean school graduates who wish to enter Japanese state universities. Not content with this, they are blocking the service of Mangyongbong-92 which has plied between the DPRK and Japan.
The ship has successfully fulfilled the humanitarian mission of making services for Koreans in Japan visiting the DPRK for reunions with their families and relatives, study tour, tourism, etc. for ten odd years according to the agreement worked out and signed by red cross organizations of the DPRK and Japan.
We cannot overlook the sinister moves of the Japanese authorities to block the service of the ship.
Such moves are part of the blockade operation launched by Japan together with the U.S. administration against the DPRK, calling for "tough step."
The statement demanded Japan ensure a normal service of the ship at an early date.
S. Korean Ministry of Defence hit for increased defense budget
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) -- A joint press conference was reportedly held in front of the main gate of the South Korean "Ministry of Defence" on June 17, denouncing the ministry's move to increase the "defence budget" under the co-sponsorship of the National People's Solidarity, the Reunification Solidarity for the Implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and Peace on the Korean Peninsula, the Democratic Workers' Party and the Society of Those for Peace and Reunification in South Korea.
At the press conference Chon Yong Se, deputy representative of the Democratic Workers' Party, accused the "Ministry of Defence" of trying to increase the "defence budget" for next year by collecting money from the people as taxes. Hong Kun Su, permanent representative of the Society of Those for Peace and Reunification, said that the move to increase the defence spending, a move which calls for South Korea-U.S. cooperation and cooperation with foreign forces, while ignoring the desire of the people, is little short of reducing the joint declaration to a dead document.
A press release read out at the press conference bitterly condemned the authorities' behavior of yielding to the U.S. pressure, indifferent to misfortune and sufferings inflicted upon the people, as an unpopular act.
Branding the move of the "Ministry of Defence" to introduce U.S.-made latest lethal weapons by increasing the military expenditure as a pro-U.S. flunkeyist act, the press release strongly demanded a halt to the arms buildup.
U.S. moves for sea blockade against north denounced
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) -- Co-chairmen of the headquarters of the Movement for Calling for the Anti-U.S. and Anti-War Struggle and Urging the Conclusion of a Non-Aggression Treaty between North Korea and the U.S. issued a statement on June 12 denouncing the U.S. moves for sea blockade against the north, according to a news report.
The U.S. is committing heinous hostile acts little short of sea blockade against the trading ships of the north under this or that pretext, the statement said, branding this as an illegal act of ignoring the United Nations and international law.
The U.S. is seriously mistaken if it thinks the north will remain a mere onlooker to the U.S. keen on tyrannical blockade against the north, the statement said, stressing that any reckless action on the part of Bush would bring unimaginably serious consequences to Americans.
It continued:
The only way of settling the issue on the Korean Peninsula is for the United States to sit face to face with the north, discuss the issue with it candidly and conclude a non-aggression treaty with it. If the U.S. refuses dialogue with the north, it will prove the U.S. plan for a war against the north.
The headquarters of the movement denounces the U.S. moves for sea blockade against the north and strongly demands an early conclusion of a North Korea-U.S. non-aggression treaty.
If the U.S. deteriorates the situation through a "tougher step" defying such just demand of the Korean nation, it will meet unpredictable strong resistance against it.
DPRK women's soccer team comes first
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) -- The DPRK women's soccer team came first in the 14th Asian Women's Football Championships held in Thailand from June 8 to 21.
It trounced Thailand and Singapore 14-0 and 16-0 respectively on June 12 and 14 after beating Hong Kong by 13-0 on June 10.
The DPRK eleven entered the semi-finals after scoring a total of 45 goals, the highest score, in the group league matches.
In the semi-finals on June 19 it defeated the Japanese team 3-0.
In the final held on June 21 amid the keen interest of many spectators and fans Korean girls beat the Chinese team 2-1 to come first in the championships and retain the Asian title for the second time.
Rainy season to begin in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 22 (KCNA) --A rainy season is expected to begin in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on June 23.
According to the Central Meteorological Institute of the hydrometeorological bureau, this year's rainy season will begin ten days earlier than other years.
In the first three days of the rainy season alone, 50-100 mm of rain on an average, more than 150 mm at maximum, will fall on the west coast and 40-70 mm on an average, more than 100 mm at maximum in other areas.
Necessary measures have been taken by industrial establishments, cooperative farms and other economic sectors to prevent damage by floods and rainstorms.
U.S.-South Korea Rsoi exercise denounced
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- The Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland on June 20 issued information bulletin no. 841 lashing out at the U.S. troops in South Korea and South Korean forces for staging "reception, staging, onward-movement and integration" exercise under the simulated conditions of "emergency".
It said:
This joint military exercise, which was reported to last for one month from late may to the end of June, is an extremely dangerous one in terms of its nature and content as it is aimed to mount a preemptive military attack upon the DPRK to stifle it.
With the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK reaching its height the Korean Peninsula has turned into a theatre of the most acute confrontation between the DPRK and the U.S. and the situation remains so tense that no one can predict when a war may break out.
The sabre-rattling launched by the U.S. together with the South Korean warmongers can not be construed otherwise than a military move to make the preemptive attack upon the DPRK an established fact and provoke a nuclear war against it in a premeditated way.
This is also intended to chill the anti-U.S., anti-war spirit and enthusiasm for reunification mounting higher than ever before on the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of the historic June 15 joint declaration and the 1st anniversary of the murder of two South Korean schoolgirls by a U.S. armored car.
As already clarified by the DPRK, any "blockade operation" or war exercise of the U.S. and its followers will be regarded as an infringement upon the sovereignty of the DPRK.
In that case the DPRK will be left with no option but to get ready to strongly counter it with a prompt physical retaliatory measure.
The U.S. had better behave with discretion and immediately halt its reckless war exercise to invade the DPRK.
The bellicose forces of the South Korean military are well advised to bear in mind that their support for the foreign forces' war moves will only precipitate their self-destruction.
Japan urged to ponder over consequences of pressure upon DPRK
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary urges Japan to ponder over what grave consequences the worsening DPRK-Japan relations and the growing tensions on the Korean Peninsula will entail.
On June 14 Japanese deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Abe, referring to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, let loose a string of outbursts that "dialogue with the DPRK alone wouldn't solve anything and there is the need to guide the DPRK by pressurizing it," the commentary says, and goes on:
It is anachronistic for Japan to think that it can guide the DPRK by some sort of pressure.
Japan's option for pressure is not aimed to solve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula but to push the nuclear crisis to the worst phase.
It is a true aim of Japan to render the situation on the Korean Peninsula tensest by joining the U.S. in its reckless offensive to pressurize the DPRK with nukes and step up its moves to emerge a nuclear and military power despite the public opinion at home and abroad and launch reinvasion.
Lurking behind Japan's moves to pressure the DPRK is also its calculation to tarnish the international prestige of the DPRK and evade its responsibility for redeeming its past, the core issue of the DPRK-Japan relations, and wrest a concession from the DPRK.
The DPRK will never be surprised by Japan's pressure. The pressure publicized by Japan means economic sanctions and a war, in the long-run. The DPRK will react to Japan's pressure with the toughest stand so as to protect its right to existence and dignity.
Peaceful solution to nuclear issue of Korean Peninsula called for
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- The Australian Peace Committee and Australian organizations of global friends issued a joint statement on June 10 calling for a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
The statement denounced the united states for insisting on hard-line steps such as military option and sanctions against the DPRK over the nuclear issue, adding that these actions should be completely eliminated and any form of pressure against the DPRK will produce a contrary result.
The way of solving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula is for the present U.S. administration to ease the situation, and put all the processes, which were promoted during the former Clinton administration, on their original track, it held.
Korean people's struggle for national reunification supported
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- Korea should be reunified independently and peacefully by the united efforts of the Koreans in the north and the south at an early date, said Philip Mangula, Secretary General of the Revolutionary Party of Tanzania, when he met outgoing DPRK Ambassador to Tanzania Ro Min Su.
The secretary general supported the stand and efforts of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government for the peaceful solution of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula through the DPRK-U.S. dialogue and the reunification of the peninsula.
The friendly and cooperative relations between the RPT and the WPK and between the two countries are historic relations that were provided and have been developed on the basis of the close relationship between President Kim Il Sung and former President Julius K. Nyerere, he said, adding: The two parties and the two countries have maintained the common stand toward a lot of matters and supported and cooperated with each other and will make efforts to continue developing the relations in the future, too.
U.S. anti-north blockade policy flayed
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Solidarity for the Implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and the Peace of the Korean Peninsula reportedly issued on June 17 a statement titled "we condemn the U.S. policy to blockade the north and the south Korea-the U.S.-Japan military cooperation leading the tensions to brinkmanship."
The statement said that the talks between the chief executives of South Korea and the U.S. and between those of the U.S. and Japan discussed the policies to pressurize the north such as "further steps" and "tougher measures", and the U.S. forces in South Korea are being bolstered according to the U.S. strategy for preemptive attack and Japan is stepping up the establishment of the Missile Defence System in real earnest, escalating the military tension.
South Korea and Japan are militarily cooperating with the U.S. that is openly seizing ships and perpetrating sea blockade though these practices are banned by international law, the statement added.
The statement urged the government authorities to discard the military cooperation with the U.S. and Japan and protect the peace in this land and the vital rights of the nation through inter-Korean cooperation and unity from the stand of national cooperation.
Meeting held to hear testimonies of bereaved families
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- The 2003 meeting to hear testimonies of bereaved families of those killed before and after the Korean War was reportedly held in Seoul on June 17 with an attendance of 109 civic and social organizations for human rights, members of the all-people's committee for probe into the truth behind massacre of civilians before and after the Korean war and restoration of their honor and bereaved families of the victims.
Its participants heard testimonies made by bereaved families of victims of the Kumgang massacre of literary men in Puyo, the massacre of members of the association of the protected in Chongdo, the massacre of members of the association of the protected in Kochang, the massacre in Sannam-ri of Kyoha-Myon, Phaju, the massacre in Masan-myon, Haenam, the massacre of civilians in Songgol valley of Phohang by naval bombardment and the massacre in Pukchon-ri on Jeju islet.
The testifiers demanded a thorough probe into the truth behind the cases, saying that the bereaved families are living in agony and grief though more than 50 years have passed since then.
An art performance was given at the meeting in memory of them.
Meanwhile, those bereaved families and members of the civic and social organizations for human rights from all parts of South Korea had been on sit-in strike for 111 days since Feb. 27 in demand of the enactment of a special law on probing the truth behind the mass killings of civilians.
KCNA flails Japan for acting shock brigade of U.S.
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- Japan is now recklessly acting a shock brigade executing the U.S. policy to stifle the DPRK.
Recently it has barred the calls of DPRK-flagged ships at Japanese ports including cargo-passenger ship Mangyongbong which has plied between Wonsan and Niigata, groundlessly charging it with "illegal remittance", "spy mission" and "transportation of nuclear and missile parts." Japan is making a far-fetched assertion that some of the goods it has sold to North Korea were for "double purpose."
The chief of the independent research institute, the so-called think-tank in Japan, asserted that there is the need to suspect North Korea for ordering a huge amount of goods and buying expensive things sometimes", an expression of Japan's trite hysteria intended to stifle the DPRK.
Japan is known to be the most calculating and shrewd country in the world. It is, therefore, ludicrous for such a country to call for checking the sale of even secondhand tires and shampoo, labelling them "goods for double purpose" for fear that they be used for military purposes.
It is the general ethics of commerce that dealings are made in the interests of both parties, be they individuals or countries, and they should refrain from faulting the other after selling or buying goods. Yet, Japan is now saying this or that about goods it has already sold out. This is a base way of thinking peculiar to Japan only.
It is a publicly recognized fact that Japan's madcap campaign to stifle the DPRK is aimed to support the U.S. in its moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK by internationalizing the nuclear issue, laying an international siege to it and escalating the blockade against it.
As a sign of Japan's loyalty to its master the U.S. Japan has gone into the lengths of checking the sale of commodities, talking about the "possible use of goods for a civilian purpose for military purpose."
These facts suffice to prove that the "economic sanctions" publicized by the Japanese reactionaries have reached the phase of implementation.
The DPRK has already clarified its stand that it would regard any economic sanctions as a declaration of war.
It is not surprising that Japan kowtows and follows the "superpower" as it is an island country accustomed to meeting its interests in reliance upon a big power. It is an act of adding fuel to the fire for Japan to act a shock brigade executing the U.S. policy to stifle the DPRK.
U.S. sea blockade can never frighten DPRK
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- The United States is contemplating international cooperation to intercept DPRK-flagged ships in the open sea as a link in the whole chain of its measure to blockade the DPRK in the sea. Timed to coincide with this, it is getting frantic in its anti-DPRK psychological warfare, spreading sheer rumors about "suppression of religion" and "flesh traffic", as if it were not enough with charging the DPRK with "drug and arms smuggling" and "counterfeiting of money."
Minju Joson today in a signed commentary says that these moves go to clearly prove that the U.S. has already decided to settle the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula by way of military standoff, not through dialogue, and is in the process of implementing this option.
Sea blockade against a sovereign state evidently means an act of aggression from the viewpoint of international law. This proves that the U.S. sea blockade operation is, in essence, an act of scrapping the Armistice Agreement, a sort of declaration of war and a war action in the long-run.
The DPRK will go its own way and stand unfazed no matter what others may say. It has a strong pluck as it has the great Songun politics and the powerful weapon of single-hearted unity.
The DPRK reclarifies that if there happens any physical hostile act that can be considered to be a breach of the AA and a declaration of war, it will have the right and will to promptly retaliate against it.
It will put further spurs to strengthening self-defensive nuclear deterrent force as the U.S. is becoming ever more undisguised in its hostile policy towards the DPRK as the days go by.
Staunch anti-U.S. struggle called for
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- The only way for the South Koreans to terminate their misfortune and sufferings, live in peace and achieve national prosperity is to put an end to the U.S. imperialists' policy of military presence in South Korea, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.
The history of the U.S. imperialists' occupation of South Korea for 58 years is a history of their mass killings and fascist suppression of South Koreans and anti-reunification moves, the article says, and goes on:
The U.S. imperialists' South Korea policy is a gangster-like policy aimed to meet their selfish aim of aggression at the sacrifice of the Korean nation.
The Bush administration's Korea policy, in particular, is characterized by a dangerous and high-handed nature as it does not to hesitate to exterminate the whole Korean nation.
The U.S. imperialists are now bringing the clouds of a nuclear war to hang over Korea while bringing the situation on the Korean Peninsula to an extreme pitch of tension under the pretext of its "nuclear issue".
The U.S. killed thousands of civilians by invading Iraq, a sovereign state. It is quite clear that in case the U.S. provokes a war on the Korean Peninsula it would bring tremendous massacre and destruction to the peninsula.
The Korean nation can never tolerate this but should show the mettle of the dignified nation to the aggressors and murderers.
We should further intensify the anti-U.S. and anti-war struggle to prevent the recurrence of the disastrous incident in which our dear children and beloved neighbors were killed by the U.S. imperialist troops.
Koreans called upon to bring earlier national reunification by their own efforts
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- The successful holding of the grand festival for national reunification by the north and the south to mark the 3rd anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration is a clear proof of the unbreakable will of the whole nation to achieve reunification by invariably upholding the joint declaration as the landmark of reunification despite any difficult situation. Minju Joson today says this in a signed commentary. It goes on:
The June 15 joint declaration clearly indicated the road for the movement for national reunification to follow in the new century. So the Korean people enshrine it in their hearts as their firm faith for its great attraction and vitality.
Assailing the traitorous remarks made by riff-raft of the grand national party to defame and insult the joint declaration, the commentary says: the anti-reunification elements desperately work to downplay the validity and great vitality of the June 15 joint declaration, but it is nothing but a day-dream.
The commentary calls on the 70 million Koreans to fulfil their responsibility and role as the members of the nation in bringing earlier the reunification in the spirit of "by our nation itself" by displaying a thousand times in the future nation-wide movement for national reunification the will of the Korean nation for reunification which was displayed in the grand festival for national reunification.
U.S.-S. Korea war gamble assailed
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- Rsoi exercise launched by the U.S. imperialists and the South Korean war hawks is a war gamble aimed at a surprise attack on the DPRK in every way. It is an anti-peace crime as it escalates the danger of war and military tension on the Korean Peninsula, says Rodong Sinmun today in a commentary.
The news analyst says:
Under the tense situation on the peninsula where the DPRK and the U.S. are standing in the most acute military confrontation with the military demarcation line in between, any slight conflict may trigger off a nuclear war. However, the United States is conducting the dangerous war game, clean indifferent to the present situation, which is like an act of adding fuel to the flames.
If the U.S. imperialists provoke a war in Korea at last, the aggressors will be bound to be forlorn wandering spirits in face of our powerful army and people and, in the long run, the second Korean war will end in the final ruin of the U.S.
Carried away by a "peaceful solution to the nuclear issue" on its lips the South Korean authorities blindly accept the U.S. brigandish demands and join it in its moves for pressure and war against the north. This is like jumping into fire with faggot on one's back, warns the commentary.
