Kim Jong Il registered as candidate for SPA deputy

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- The Central Election Committee for the Election of the Deputies to the 11th Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea issued a report concerning the register of leader Kim Jong Il as a candidate for a deputy to the 11th SPA. The report dated July 13 said that Kim Jong Il was nominated as a candidate for a deputy to the 11th SPA at the electorate meetings of all the constituencies across the country and he sent an open letter to all the voters throughout the country to give them his personal thanks.
    It noted:
    All the voters across the country, upon receiving the open letter, are extending the greatest glory to him, with great joy and emotion, and are firmly determined to build a reunified and great prosperous powerful socialist nation in this land while frustrating all blockade and moves of the imperialists to isolate and stifle the DPRK with the might of Songun, singleheartedly rallied around the Workers' Party of Korea.

Meeting of Central Committee of DFRF held

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- A meeting of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland was held in Pyongyang on July 13 and discussed an issue of adopting an appeal of the DFRF central committee to all the Korean people on the occasion of the election of deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly. Kang Ryon Hak, presidium member of the Central Committee of the DFRF, said in an opening address that through election of deputies to the 11th Supreme People's Assembly and to the provincial (municipal), city (district) and county people's assemblies the Korean people will defend and further exalt the immortal feats of state building performed by President Kim Il Sung, the father of socialist Korea, and fully demonstrate to the world once again the invincible might of the DPRK that leader Kim Jong Il has led in the van.
    The nomination of Kim Jong Il as a candidate for the SPA amid the full support and enthusiastic cheers of all the servicemen and people at all constituencies is an expression of their boundless reverence and absolute trust in him, he said, calling upon all the voters to greet in the election of deputies with high political enthusiasm and brilliant achievements.
    An appeal to all the Korean people was adopted at the meeting.

One hundred per cent vote for all candidates called for

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland issued an appeal to all the Korean people on July 13 calling upon them to participate as one in the elections of deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly and those to the people's assemblies of provinces, cities and counties to be held on August 3 and all of them to vote for all the candidates. The appeal says:
    Through the elections the Korean people will powerfully demonstrate to the world their unshakable confidence and will to glorify through generations the immortal exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung, father of socialist Korea, in building the state and to consolidate and develop the DPRK regime as a powerful weapon implementing the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    It calls upon all the citizens to participate in the elections of deputies to the Supreme People's Assembly and those to the people's assemblies of provinces, cities and counties with ardent loyalty, absolutely believing in and upholding only Kim Jong Il, and thus always glorify the immortal exploits of the president who devoted his whole life to the country and nation in building state.
    Appealing to the whole party, the whole army and all the people to uphold Kim Jong Il's Songun policy with one mind and one will, it calls upon them to increase national defence capabilities to the full by thoroughly implementing the idea of the Workers' Party of Korea on attaching great importance to military affairs in all fields of the revolution and construction.
    Let all of us celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as a grand festival of socialist victors by fully implementing the calls of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, the appeal says. Noting that the Korean people are now in a do-or-die confrontation with imperialists, it stresses that all the people's army men and officers and people should firmly defend the prosperous socialist fatherland, the cradle of true life and happiness of the people, by destroying the aggressors to the last man with telling blows when they invade our inviolable land, air and sea even an inch.
    It calls upon them to greet this year in which the 55th anniversary of the DPRK falls as a year of a decisive turn in accomplishing the cause of national reunification under the banner of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and further consolidate international solidarity by firmly uniting with all countries and peoples desirous of independence.
    The appeal stresses:

U.S.-South Korea joint statement under fire

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- A joint statement published at the end of the talks between the U.S. and South Korean defence ministers is aimed to strengthen the U.S.-South Korea "military alliance." And stronger military deterrent force called for by them means equipping the U.S. forces present in South Korea with ultra-modern arms and training the South Korean armed forces as effective cannon fodder in a war. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed commentary.
    It goes on:
    The U.S. is keen to keep South Korea as its faithful "military ally" so that the U.S. may use South Korea in a war any time.
    This is a sinister aim sought by the U.S. in its strategy for a war of aggression against the DPRK. But the "military alliance" between the U.S. and South Korea is now shaking.
    This situation raises it as the most urgent strategic task for the implementation of the U.S. policy of aggression towards the DPRK to tighten the U.S.-South Korea "military alliance" and put South Korea under its permanent military occupation.
    By strengthening this "alliance" the U.S. seeks to chill the positive atmosphere of reconciliation, cooperation and reunification prevailing on the Korean peninsula, keep South Korea subject to the master-servant "alliance" and thus drive it to confrontation with the DPRK and use it as a shock brigade in implementing Washington's policy to stifle the DPRK.
    However, the U.S. moves to use South Korea as a shock force in carrying out its war of aggression against the DPRK and hamstring the positive development on the Korean peninsula are bound to go bust.

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's work observed

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates a signed article to the 31st anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's historic work "Let Us Struggle Resolutely to Implement the Three Principles of National Reunification." The work raises it as a main task to implement the three principles of national reunification set out by President Kim Il Sung in the efforts to solve the issue of national reunification.
    Laid down in the work are tasks to carry out the three principles of national reunification including the issue of driving the U.S. forces out of South Korea and checking and frustrating the Japanese militarists' moves for reinvasion under the uplifted banner of independence, the issue of taking practical measures to ease the military tension and remove the very source of a war in the Korean peninsula and the issue of achieving the great unity of the nation irrespective of ideology and system. It comprehensively deals with principles and important matters arising in developing the inter-Korean dialogue.
    The work serves as important guidelines encouraging the entire nation to launch a nationwide struggle to implement the three principles of national reunification and reunify the country at an early date, notes the article.
    Several decades have passed since the publication of the work but the work together with the three principles serves as an immortal banner powerfully encouraging the koreans in their struggle for independent reunification, the article says, adding:
    The Pyongyang meeting and the publication of the June 15 Joint Declaration are a shining fruition of the protracted arduous struggle to implement the three principles.
    The three principles -- independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity -- indicate the way to be followed by the movement for national independence and reunification as they serve as an invariable basic cornerstone of national reunification and their validity, attraction and vitality are being more strikingly demonstrated as the days go by.

KCNA blasts burlesque of "defectors" from north

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- "Representatives" of so-called "organizations of defectors from the north" in South Korea were reported to have met the U.S. Ambassador in Seoul on July 7 and implored the U.S. to show concern over the human rights issue in the north and ways for its settlement. This motley crew asked for an "open hearing" at U.S. Congress, talking about the nonsensical "suppression of political offenders in the north" and "human rights abuse". The U.S. Ambassador answered that the U.S. would monitor the human rights performance in the north with concern.
    Recently in the U.S. the "bill on relief and protection of North Korean refugees" was passed at its senate as part of its vicious moves to use the DPRK's non-existent "human rights abuse" as another pretext for carrying out its policy to stifle the DPRK by manipulating "defectors from the north".
    Seeing that its "nuclear issue" strategy did not work on the DPRK the U.S. is now going to put up the issue of "human rights abuse" in the north and the issue of "refugees" in a bid to tarnish the image and the dignity of the DPRK. But this is nothing but a foolish ruse.
    The U.S. seeks in this to hamstring the process of reconciliation and cooperation, incite confrontation and escalate tension between the north and the south in the end.
    The defectors cited by the U.S. are criminals who ran away after committing such unpardonable crimes as murder, rape and theft in the north and human scum such as hooligans, swindlers and idlers.
    The mean operation launched by the U.S. against the north with such human trashes involved only lays bare its base and shameless nature and its piteous position.
    There exist no issues of "political offenders" and "human rights abuse", to say nothing of "refugees" in the DPRK as the country forms a big harmonious family in which people help and lead each other forward.
    What matters is that the U.S. which has the world's poorest human rights record, is saying this or that about the "human rights performance" of someone, styling itself a human rights judge.
    It is the U.S. where the human rights are most wantonly violated and which has the biggest exodus of refugees. It has violated the human rights of peoples of other countries by provoking wars of aggression and created a great number of refugees.
    Such being a stark fact, the U.S. is going to attach the label of "human rights abuse" to the DPRK. This is a height of folly.
    The burlesque staged according to the U.S. scenario and at its manipulation has only touched off the Korean people's anti-U.S. sentiments.
    The U.S. should drop such burlesque at once.

Rotating astronomical chart made in DPRK

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- Astronomers and archaeologists of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have succeeded in making a rotating astronomical chart. It, made on the basis of the precession of the earth and the principle of the movement of celestial bodies, can observe the changed constellations of any times.
    Astronomical years of the ancient times measured by using the chart coincide with those measured by archaeological and nuclear physical means.
    The standard astronomical chart makes it possible to measure the astronomical years according to the changed angles of constellations and ascertain astronomical data reflected in historical relics.
    It also makes it possible to correctly observe the past, present and future constellations.

Susok exhibition

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang Susok (natural stonecraft) exhibition has been crowded with visitors these days. On display there are more than 1,000 pieces of natural stones collected in the Taedong and Chongchon rivers and in different parts of the country.
    Among them are stones resembling mountains, streams, lakes, peaks, men, women and animals.
    Natural stonecrafts made in the DPRK are very popular at home and abroad.
    Some of them gained great popularity at the Susok exhibition held in Wuhan, China, in Juche 90 (2001), and other international exhibitions.

Hong Song Nam exchanges greetings with Malaysian Prime Minister

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- Hong Song Nam, Premier of the DPRK cabinet, exchanged messages of greetings with Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamed, Prime Minister of Malaysia, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Malaysia. GNP's assertion dismissed as sheer lie

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party in a statement issued on Monday accuses the Grand National Party of South Korea of working hard to fabricate a new "law on special inspection", deliberately linking the U.S.-provided misinformation about the "north's experiments on detonating devices for nuclear bombs" to the issue of "remittance to the north." He branded it as a group of traitors and pro-U.S. flunkeyists who go against the Koreans' desire for reconciliation, unity and peace. The statement goes on:
    On July 11, the GNP at the plenary session of the "National Assembly" asserted that the money sent to the north has been used for testing the nuclear detonating devices and called for adding this to the "new law on special inspection."
    What the GNP group seeks in calling for a "new law on special inspection" is to use the law as a leverage for bedeviling the inter-Korean relations and inciting confrontation with the north and support the U.S. policy to stifle the DPRK with nukes in a bid to push the situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of a dangerous war.
    The "cooperation" with the U.S. pursued by the GNP is a version of cooperation for a war.
    If such group of traitors is allowed to lord it over the South Korean "National Assembly" the north-south relations can not but go back to those in the era of confrontation and this land will fall victim to a disastrous war.

Kim Jong Il receives Chinese government's special envoy

     Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il on July 14 received Dai Bingguo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is the Chinese government's special envoy, and his party on a visit to the DPRK. Present there were Kang Sok Ju, first Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Wu Donghe, Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK.
    The special envoy courteously handed a personal letter from Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of China, and presented his gift to Kim Jong Il.
    Kim Jong Il expressed thanks for them and conversed with him in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.
