U.S. termed sheer liar

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- "Information" used by the United States for justifying the Iraqi war has proved totally false, creating a great furor. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun today says:
    At a time when the "legitimacy" of the Iraqi war unleashed by the U.S. is being regarded doubtful and there is growing opinion that the "information about the suspected production of weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq might be faked up to invade it, the misinformation about Iraq's "plan for purchasing uranium" is being brought to light. This has made it impossible for the U.S. to escape the charge of being an aggressor and criminal.
    Much upset by this, the U.S. is these days letting loose a string of poor excuses. The U.S. is experiencing a hot agony of shame internationally in face of the disclosure of this misinformation.
    It is a trite method employed by the U.S. imperialists to invade other countries to resort to plot-breeding and fabrications.
    The U.S. is becoming evermore undisguised in its campaign against the DPRK in a bid to invent a pretext for war and topple its system by force just as Washington did in Iraq.
    It is quite just for the DPRK to have increased its self-reliant defence capability in every way under the uplifted banner of Songun to cope with the U.S. ever-escalated hostile policy to stifle the DPRK.
    The U.S. should be brought to international justice for its war of aggression committed against Iraq without any justification.
    It should also be sternly tried by human conscience for having slandered the DPRK with all sorts of lies and plots and perpetrated pressure and blackmail against it.

Dangerous U.S. military move under fire

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- Some of the rapid deployment brigade, an elite combat unit of the United States equipped with ultra-modern precision weapons, are due to arrive in South Korea on August 1 for training. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun today says:
    The unit, based in Fort Luis, Washington state, is an ultra-modern force equipped with high-performance light armored vehicles, which are fitted with remote controlled weapons and capable of destroying bunkers, and an electronic commanding system. It is the first elite combat unit organized in the army according to the u.s. "new concept of world strategy."
    This new unit has a mission to carry out its military operation after being swiftly deployed in any region of the world in case of emergency according to a new "operation concept." The creation of this force is aimed to ignite another Korean war.
    This indicates that the new force created on the basis of the "lesson" the U.S. drew from the Iraqi war is part of the moves to build up forces to execute the Korean war and its projected training in South Korea is intended to adapt itself to operation areas and test its combat capability.
    After all, the unit can be termed an advance party, a scout party to ignite another war of aggression against the DPRK. This is a military move which can be seen only on the eve of a war, an indication that the U.S. second Korean war scenario is being put into practice.
    It is by no means accidental that there are rumors in the U.S. that the Bush forces would unleash a war in Korea within this year.
    The U.S. fever for invasion of Korea has already gone beyond the limit. But the Bush group must clearly know that the DPRK is fully ready to strongly react against any strike of uptodate weapons and psychological warfare.

Koreans called upon to carry out WPK's line of national reunification

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- The line of national reunification of the Workers' Party of Korea serves as a great line of national independence and patriotism as it guarantees the sovereignty and the dignity of the country and the nation and the prosperous development of a reunified country and the prosperity of the nation, declares Rodong Sinmun in a signed article today. It says:
    The movement of national reunification in Korea has entered a turning phase of independent national reunification after going through ordeals unprecedented in history. This is unthinkable apart from the WPK's most correct line of national reunification.
    The three charters of national reunification is an immortal banner of national reunification and the most justifiable and realistic fighting program. The National Alliance for the Country's Reunification emerged amidst the struggle to implement the three charters, which are run through with the spirit of national independence regarding the sovereignty and the dignity of the nation as its life and soul and which embody noble patriotism. This led to the tripartite alliance among people in the north, the south and overseas, which is growing stronger as the days go by.
    Great national unity is most essential for national reunification. The 10-point program of the great unity of the entire nation set forth by President Kim Il Sung and the five-point policy of great national unity propounded by leader Kim Jong Il serve as the banner of national unity and action program for all the Koreans who love the country and the nation.
    The driving force of national reunification has grown stronger than ever before in the process of carrying out the 10-point program and the five-point policy of great national unity and this has revitalized the independent reunification movement and given a strong impetus to it.
    The proposal for founding the democratic federal republic of Koryo fully represents the three principles of national reunification--independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity--a reunification program common to the nation, as it shows the whole image of a unified state and indicates the way of realizing it. It sets out a detailed blueprint of realizing reunification by means of building mutual confidence and achieving unity after removing misunderstanding and mistrust on the basis of tolerating and recognizing the differing ideologies and systems existing in the north and the south. It also clarifies the mandate and duties to be fulfilled by the federal government and regional governments on a fair principle and reasonably defines the nature and the name of the federal state.

Mt. Paektu biosphere reserve

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- A survey of the Mt. Paektu biosphere reserve is going on in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. According to the results of the survey made until now, the Mt. Paektu area is boastful of more than 1,260 species of higher plants, 280 species of vertebrates and 1,780 species of invertebrates.
    The plants in the area began to grow after a volcanic eruption.
    Among the variable species adapted for alpine conditions after the glacial period are dasiphora fruticoa. And the species which have remained only in Korea are papaver radicatum rottb. , pulsatilla nivalis nak., etc.
    Son Kyong Nam, director of the biological branch of the Academy of Sciences of the DPRK told KCNA that the forests in the area were vast in acreage, various in plant species and special in natural scene, so they had become one of the main targets of study.
    The Mt. Paektu area was registered as an international biosphere reserve at a meeting of the bureau of the international coordination council of the man and biosphere (mab) under unesco in april juche 78 (1989).
    A publication issued by the mab introduced the geographical position of the Mt. Paektu, the historical background of the establishment of the reserve, features of the area, the animal and plant distribution in the area, cultural inheritance and relics, scientific researches, state investment, etc.
    Lake Chon on Mt. Paektu, the secret camp in the mountain, Mudu peak, Mt. Kanbaek, Lake Samji and Rimyongsu district are the nation's leading tourist resorts.

Election system of DPRK

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- The entire Korean people are willing to take part in the elections of deputies to the 11th Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and to the provincial (municipal), city (district) and county people's assemblies to be held on August 3, so as to further strengthen the people's government. The election system of the DPRK is a democratic and popular one.
    Every citizen above 17 enjoys the freedom to participate in elections to vote and to be elected on the universal and equal election principle irrespective of sex, nationality, occupation, residence period, property, knowledge, party affiliation, political view and religious belief.
    Any able citizen who is faithful to the country and people can be elected, without discrimination and restriction, as deputies to power bodies at all levels.
    The candidates for deputies to the people's assemblies at all levels are nominated at voters' meetings of residential quarters, institutions, enterprises, cooperative organizations, schools and army units.
    The method of nominating and electing candidates for deputies fully embodies socialist democracy: the will of the voters are reflected well in the election results.
    Elections are held by the method of secret ballot on the principle of direct voting. the voters express their will in a free atmosphere.
    Those citizens who are unable to go to the polling stations for various reasons are provided with all conditions so as to directly vote and express their will.
    The forthcoming elections will mark an important occasion in further strengthening the revolutionary power of the working people and consolidating the singlehearted unity of the whole society.

Greetings to President of Benin

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, sent a message of greetings to Mathieu Kerekou, President of Benin, on July 28 on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of its independence. Wishing the president and the government of Benin great success in their work for peace and prosperity of the country, the message expressed belief that the good friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would grow stronger in various fields.

DPRK ready for dialogue and total war

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said that the DPRK is ready for dialogue with the U.S. and a total war. The spokesman in a July 31 statement made clear this stand, terming an operation to deploy in South Korea an elite force of the first rapid deployment brigade ever to be organized in the U.S. army an extremely dangerous war move to realize a new operation scenario to invade the DPRK.
    The U.S. military action clearly proves that the U.S. scheme to unleash a nuclear war on the Korean peninsula at any cost entered a phase of implementation, he said, and continued:
    The military action that came at a time when the Pyongyang August 15 Pan-National Rally for peace and reunification, an inter-Korean event, the 22nd Universiad and other events are at hand is a grave challenge to the Korean people's desire for peaceful reunification and an unpardonable criminal move to stem the trend of reconciliation and detente on the peninsula.
    With nothing can the U.S. invade the DPRK and block the advance of Koreans toward the peace and reunification of Korea.
    No force on earth can match the army and people of the DPRK who have a deterrent force strong enough to repel any U.S. military attack at a stroke.
    If the U.S. persists in its moves to provoke a nuclear war against the DPRK despite the unanimous condemnation and opposition of the people at home and abroad, it will be held entirely responsible for all the ensuing consequences.

Kim Jong Il inspects KPA unit on frontline

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected KPA unit 669 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment. Upon arriving at the unit on the frontline, he learned about the performance of its duty and servicepersons in fire commanding training.
    The training demonstrated the fixed will and invincible determination of the servicepersons to annihilate at a stroke the U.S. imperialist aggressors and force them to pay the price for the blood shed by the Koreans a thousand times if they dare invade the inviolable land of the country.
    He was much pleased to see all the servicepersons of the unit fully prepared politically, ideologically and in military technique to promptly repel any enemy invasion and protect the socialist homeland and set out highly important tasks that would serve as guidelines in increasing the combat power of the unit.
    At the servicepersons' hall he acquainted himself with the politico-ideological work.
    He said that it is a very good thing that the unit has conducted effecting politico-ideological education, class education in particular, so that the servicepersons may not forget class enemies even a moment, but are aflame with the hatred for them all the time. He underscored the need to train all the servicepersons as combatants strong in ideology and faith by paying primary attention to the ideological education .
    While going round an education room, a lecture room, a bedroom, a mess hall, a daily provision store, a washroom and other places of the company under the unit, he took warm care of the living of the servicepersons.
    After learning about the unit management, he expressed great satisfaction over the excellent living environment, saying that every place of the unit is kept so neat and tidy that he felt refreshed.
    He said that all the units of the people's army have learned the fighting spirit and way of life of the anti-Japanese guerrillas to bring about signal changes in all aspects of ideology, morality and cultural life. He said that those proud successes are a valuable fruition of the great revolutionary soldier spirit created by the army in the era of Songun.
    The next leg of his inspection was a goat farm operated by the unit.
    He stressed the need to build modern goat farms in different places to bring about changes in improving the diet of the servicepersons and people.
    He repeatedly made high appreciation, saying that the officers and men of the unit have done a lot of work, true to the party's Songun guidance.

South side urged to opt for halting@anti-north broadcasting

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- Head of the delegation of the north side to the inter-Korean ministerial talks Kim Ryong Song Wednesday sent a telephone message to chief delegate of the south side delegation Jong Se Hyon. Recalling that the north decided to stop the broadcasting by "Voice of National Salvation" made by South Koreans, as proposed at the last 11th inter-Korean ministerial talks, the message said: this radio is airing a notice that its broadcasting is to be halted from August 1.
    As our side has already stressed, visits, cooperation and exchange have been brisk at the authority and non-governmental levels between the north and the south and Koreans have cooperated with each other and shared their destiny as one and the same nation since the historic north-south summit and the publication of the June 15 Joint Declaration.
    It is necessary for the north and the south to discard the outdated conception of hostility as early as possible to swim with this irresistible trend of the times.
    To stop the broadcasting by the above-said radio, we believe, is an important measure to do away with this hostile conception.
    Hence, we hope the south side will take a corresponding step to stop "social education program", "echo of hope" and "voice of people", all targeted against the north.

South side urged to cancel projected war exercises

     Pyongyang, July 31 (KCNA) -- Kim Ryong Song, head of the north side delegation to the inter-Korean ministerial talks, today sent a telephone message to chief delegate Jong Se Hyon of the south side delegation. Recalling the fact that of late the south side announced that it would stage 2003 Ulji Focus Lens joint military exercises together with the U.S. and, at the same time, some of the rapid deployment brigade based in the U.S. mainland would be deployed in South Korea, the message says:
    We are very regretful that your side is to stage nuclear war exercises against the fellow countrymen in league with outsiders to bring dark clouds of a nuclear war to hang over this land at a time when the situation on the Korean peninsula remains extremely tense due to the U.S. nuclear racket.
    Now that your side is planning to stage war exercises against the north together with the u.s. we feel deep apprehension as to whether the itineraries of inter-Korean relations agreed upon by both sides would be implemented properly.
    As a matter of fact, the projected war exercises would entail catastrophic consequences and so your side would be held entirely responsible for the consequences as your side joins outsiders, turning its back on the fellow countrymen.
    We consider it necessary for your side to properly understand desire of the fellow countrymen for national reconciliation, unity, peace and reunification and make a responsible decision to immediately cancel the projected Ulji Focus Lens and reinforcement and deployment of the U.S. forces, which would aggravate the situation and drive it to the brink of war.

    esta unidad con base en fort luis del estado de washington esta dotada con los carros blindados ligeros de alta capacidad cargados de armas guiadas y medios de destruccion a los refugios y con el sistema de mando electronico y esta organizada por primera vez en la fuerza terrestre norteamericana segun la "concepcion de operacion universal" de nueva forma.
