"Human Rights Resolution" Denounced

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary describes the "Human Rights Resolution" railroaded through the South Korean National Assembly as a parrot's play of the group of the Grand National Party of south Korea. Noting that the GNP, the local spy party of the U.S. which stakes its fate on it, kicked up a dust over "human rights" after the U.S. made an outcry over them, the commentary says: this reminds us of a parrot. The GNP has no need to look afar and is not in a position to disparage others over the human rights issue.
    It is the reality of south Korea that people have to shed blood and meet an unexpected death at the hand of aggression army soldiers and even a one-time "national assemblyman" has no one to pour out his woes after being beaten by them in broad daylight.
    More than 10 thousand people commit suicide every year and suicides of parents in company with their children are reported in an unbroken chain in south Korea.
    How can the GNP crow over other's human rights issue, having such worst human rights problem and no grit to solve it.
    It should be a party having a correct view of the human rights issue and resolving it. If it makes a stir over a matter which is out of question, while failing to solve an issue awaiting a solution, it is no more than a fool.
    The GNP should mind its own affairs, not wasting time in taking issue with other's fictitious "human rights problem."
    It is only too natural that the south Korean people are turning their backs on the GNP for acting as a bugler and marionette of outside forces, not knowing what it must do.

Koreans Meet in U.S.

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Koreans in the United States held meetings for the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea in different parts of the U.S. including Washington d.c. and New York from July 24 to 27 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the victory of the Korean people in the Great Fatherland Liberation War. Speeches were made there on the subjects "three movements for changing the situation of the Korean peninsula", "Koreans in the U.S. and movement for the peaceful reunification of the homeland", etc.

U.S. Urged to Remain True to AA

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The United States should honestly implement the Armistice Agreement (AA) signed between the two warring parties in the 1950-1953 Korean War and stop the deployment of more troops and combat equipment and halt at once provocations against the other party. This was demanded by seven political parties of Nepal including the Nepal Communist Party (United Marxist-Leninist), the Nepal Worker-Peasant Party and the People's Front of Nepal in a joint statement issued on July 27 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Korean people's victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.
    The statement said:
    We demand that the AA be replaced by a peace agreement between the DPRK and the U.S. in conformity with lasting peace and interests of the DPRK and the rest of the world to build a mechanism for peace on the Korean peninsula.
    We hold that the Korean problem should be settled by efforts of the Korean nation in the spirit of the resolution of the 30th UN General Assembly and the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration free from interference of any outside forces.

Hostile Moves against Chongryon Denounced

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea on August 3 released a statement sternly denouncing the sinister provocation committed by the Japanese right-wing reactionaries in Niigata under the patronage and instigation of the Japanese authorities. Branding it as an unpardonable terrorism seriously threatening the lives and property of the Korean residents in Japan and an intolerable hostile act intentionally committed to create uneasiness and fear in the community of the Koreans in Japan and thus destroy the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and bitterly denouncing it in the name of the entire Korean working class, the statement continued:
    It is an unavoidable historic responsibility of the Japanese authorities and a moral obligation they assumed by the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration to check all the hostile provocations against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.
    The Japanese authorities should immediately give up their outdated hostile policy toward the DPRK and fully ensure the legal position of Chongryon and lives and rights of Korean residents in Japan, going by the main spirit of the declaration.
    A provocation against the patriotic cause of Chongryon can never pass with impunity.
    The statement expressed the belief that the working class of Japan and other countries of the world, who want peace and stability of the world and value justice and truth, would express firm solidarity with the Korean people in their just struggle to check and frustrate the terrorism of the Japanese reactionaries against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan.

Foreigners Visit Polling Stations

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Diplomatic envoys and officials of foreign embassies here and foreign guests Sunday visited various polling stations in Pyongyang where the election of deputies to people's assemblies at all levels was under way. Sika Aho Antti, chief of the Finnish Group for the Study of Works of Comrade Kim Jong Il, said that the visit to the polling station provided an opportunity to see the true appearance of the Korean people single-heartedly united around the leader.
    Mohamed Dioue Fofana, secretary general of the African Regional Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea, said that the people's government of the DPRK enjoys absolute trust and support of the popular masses, adding: It is the reality of Korea that everyone devotedly serving the people is becoming a deputy to a people's assembly at different level.
    S. Gungaadorj, chairman of the standing committee of environment and rural development of the state great hural of Mongolia, said that all the electors voted for the candidates, a clear indication of the high political enthusiasm of the Korean people.
    Ahmed Amer al Muakkaf, secretary of the people's bureau of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya here, said that his visit to the polling station offered him a chance to see firsthand how fully popular democracy is guaranteed in the DPRK.
    Gan Hua, son of the former vice-chairman of the China-Korea Friendship Association, said that his visit to the polling station helped him know well that the government of the dprk is a genuine popular government guaranteeing the working masses genuine freedom and rights.

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Visit to Russia Observed

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Papers here today observe the 2nd anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's historic official visit to Russia. Rodong Sinmun in a signed article says that his official visit to Russia was an epoch-making event as it provided a new landmark for the DPRK-Russia friendship, human cause of peace and the building of a new and just world structure.
    The DPRK-Russia friendship has favorably developed over the past two years since his historic visit, the article says, and continues:

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang University of Medicine has developed sterilizing paper recently. It contains silver mixed with other germicidal matters.
    It takes 30 minutes to disinfect a liter of water with a square centimeter of sterilizing paper.
    It, which is one second to one fourth in the time of sterilization as against various silver disinfectants, can be in safekeeping for a long time.

Large Stockbreeding Farm on Mountains

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- A large stockbreeding farm was built in Kyenam area, Sinwon county, South Hwanghae Province, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The stockbreeding farm, with an acreage of over 5,000 hectares on remote mountains, has several stockbreeding and agricultural branch farms. It breeds thousands of domestic animals including goats, rabbits and pigs.
    It also has a modern milk-processing factory.
    It was in the difficult days of the "arduous march" that the farm was built. People in the province buckled down to the construction of a 40 kilometer-long road and creation of thousands of hectares of grasslands under the slogan "live not for today, but for tomorrow".
    They also built many goat folds, pigsties, more than 100 dwelling houses and service establishments.
    Leader Kim Jong Il guided the work of the farm on the spot on June 17. He was very pleased with the successful construction of the farm.
    The province set the target of expanding the farm and is pushing on with the expansion projects.

Election Returns Announced

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The central election committee for deputies to the 11th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK today announced a report on the results of the elections for deputies to provincial (municipal), city (district) and county people's assemblies which were held on Sunday. According to the results available at the provincial (municipal), city (district) and county election committees, 99.9 percent of the voters registered on the pollbooks went to the polls and 100 percent of the casters voted for candidates for deputies registered at all constituencies, the report notes, and says:
    Citizens who are staying in foreign countries or working in the far-off seas could not participate in the elections.
    26,650 officials, workers, peasants and intellectuals were elected deputies to provincial (municipal), city (district) and county people's assemblies. Those elected have devotedly worked for the strengthening and development of the Workers' Party of Korea and the people's power, the building of a great prosperous socialist powerful nation and happiness of the people, with absolute worship of leader Kim Jong Il.
    The elections marked an important occasion in further consolidating the DPRK government as a revolutionary power based on the Songun policy by revamping local power organs with able officials who, intensely loyal to Kim Jong Il, have devotedly worked for the party and the leader, the country and the people.

Results of SPA Election Announced

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The Central Election Committee today announced a report on the returns of the election of deputies to the 11th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK which was held on Sunday. According to the election results available, 99.9 percent of all the voters registered on the pollbooks went to the polls and 100 percent of the casters voted for candidates of deputies to the SPA registered at all the constituencies, the report says, and goes on:
    This is an expression of all the voters' support and trust in the DPRK government and a manifestation of our army and people's steadfast will to consolidate the people's power as firm as a rock and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche under the guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea.
    Citizens who are staying in foreign countries or working in the far-off seas could not took part in the election.
    All the voters turned out as one in the SPA election for prosperity of the country and strengthening and development of the people's power, with high honor and duty as citizens of the DPRK.
    Through the election, the voters cemented the singlehearted unity of our army and people around their great leader and fully demonstrated the revolutionary stamina of Songun Korea where the headquarters of the revolution, the perfect unity and socialism represents a common destiny.      Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The voters registered at constituency no. 649 all went to the polls and 100 percent of them voted for Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea said a report on the results of the election of the deputy to the SPA at constituency no. 649 held on August 3 which was released on August 4 by the central election committee for the election of deputies to the 11th SPA of the DPRK. DPRK Foreign Ministry Spokesman on Six-Party Talks

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Six-party talks for a solution to the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. will be held in Beijing soon thanks to the former's initiative and peaceful efforts. In this regard, a spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry today released a statement, which said:
    We have already clarified several times the stand that the DPRK will not stick to any format of talks if the U.S. is ready to make a switchover in its policy towards the DPRK since it is essential for solving the nuclear issue between the two countries.
    At the recent DPRK-U.S. contacts in New York, we put forward a bold proposal for starting six-party talks in Beijing without going through an unnecessary phase and holding the bilateral talks within their framework.
    It is an expression of our utmost magnanimity as the proposal has come from the stand to solve the nuclear issue between the two countries peacefully through dialogue in any case.
    The U.S. side agreed to the DPRK-proposed six-party talks, giving up its persistent assertion that the DPRK should "scrap its nuclear program before dialogue." And it proposed to have DPRK-U.S. contacts within the framework of the talks, at which the two sides will clarify each other's stand and discuss the issue.
    We have decided to take note of this proposal of the U.S. side.
    As the multilateral talks are slated to take place as called for by the U.S. side so far, the forthcoming talks will clearly show the world community whether the U.S. has a true willingness to make a switchover in its policy towards the DPRK or not.

Kim Yong Nam Meets Mongolian Delegation

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met and conversed with the delegation of the State Great Hural of Mongolia led by S. Gungaadorj, chairman of the standing committee on environment and rural development of the State Great Hural, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today. The head of delegation said that while visiting a polling station for the election of deputies to people's assemblies at different levels they clearly realized the Korean people are single-heartedly united around leader Kim Jong Il.

Japanese Reactionaries' Political Terrorism Denounced

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the central committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League in a statement issued Monday denounced the criminal act committed in Japan recently to seriously threaten the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and the lives and properties of the Koreans in Japan as deliberate and premeditated political terrorism intended to incite anti-Chongryon, anti-Korean sentiment among the Japanese and thus undermine Chongryon. He dismissed this incident as a deliberate provocation to the DPRK, Chongryon and Koreans committed under the tacit patronage and connivance of the Japanese government authorities.
    It is self-evident that such grave crimes as the recent undisguised terrorism against the Chongryon organizations could not be committed in an unbroken chain without the authorities' patronage and connivance in Japan styling itself a "law-governed state" and "anti-terrorist state," he said.
