Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to Light Industrial Factories

     Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong gave field guidance to light industrial factories in Pyongyang. He was accompanied by Choe Chun Hwang and Kim Hi Thaek, first vice department directors of the WPK Central Committee.
    The first leg of his field guidance was the Pyongyang Cosmetics Factory rebuilt on an expansion basis.
    After hearing explanation before the panoramic map of the factory, he went round a soap shop, toothpaste shop and other processes of the factory to learn in detail about the technical modernization and production.
    While seeing various kinds of quality cosmetics pouring out, he expressed satisfaction over the fact that the workers and technicians of the factory have successfully reconstructed the cosmetics production processes on an expansion basis so as to greatly contribute to the hygienic and cultural life of the people and sharply increase the production and highly appreciated their successes.
    He said soap, toothpaste and other cosmetics are indispensable of important consumer goods for the living of the people. And he said that the producers should produce and supply more quality cosmetics in the spirit of devoted services for the people to make the factory a factory which is loved by the people and which serves them.
    He underscored the need to steadily increase the production and raise the quality of the products and set out tasks to be fulfilled.
    Then he went to the songyo knitwear factory.
    While seeing the production processes for various kinds of knit goods, he acquainted himself with the management and operation of the factory and production there.
    He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the workers and technicians of the factory, true to the on-site teachings of President Kim Il Sung, have massively turned out quality knit goods to greatly contribute to the settlement of the question of clothing for the people and spruced up the factory in a hygienic and cultured manner.
    He expressed the expectation and conviction that the officials, workers and technicians in the field of light industry would bring about a great turn in the production of mass consumption goods to adorn this significant year as a year of a new surge in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation and a year of the most brilliant victory in the history of the country.

Kim Jong Il's Work Brought Out in Mexico

     Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) - General Secretary Kim Jong Il's famous work "Let Us Reunify the Country Independently and Peacefully through the Great Unity of the Entire Nation" was brought out in pamphlet by the Workers' Party of Mexico Publishing House. Clarified in the work, published on April 18, Juche 87 (1998), is the historic five-point policy of great national unity which serves as important guidelines in achieving the great unity of the Korean nation.
    The five-point policy contains the requirements that the whole nation should base itself on the principle of national independence, unite under the banner of patriotism, the banner of national reunification, improve inter-Korean relations, struggle against outside domination and interference and the anti-reunification forces, and have contacts, develop dialogue and strengthen solidarity.

Meeting for Solidarity with Korean People in Mexico

     Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- A meeting for solidarity with the Korean people was held at the building of the Puebla State Committee of the Workers' Party of Mexico on July 21. Addressing the meeting, coordinator of the Puebla State Committee of the WPM Camilo Torres Mejia and other figures expressed full support and solidarity with the just cause of the Korean people who are building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation and waging a vigorous struggle for national reunification, while resolutely smashing the more undisguised moves of the U.S. imperialists to stifle the DPRK under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Japanese Reactionaries' Terrorist Acts Denounced

     Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- Officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) denounced the Japanese reactionaries for their terrorist acts against the Chongryon organs committed in Niigata and Kanagawa, according to the August 4 issue of Choson Sinbo published in Japan. Ri Han Su, chairman of the Kanagawa Prefectural Headquarters of Chongryon, branded the incident as a criminal act to deliberately disturb the operation of the Hana Credit Association, a financial institution of Koreans in Japan, and spark uneasiness and horror among them and Japanese in the prefecture.
    He strongly demanded the Japanese investigation authorities probe the truth behind the incident, arrest the criminal and take responsible measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incident.
    O Jae Se, director general of the Federation of Korean Traders and Industrialists in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, denounced the incident as an unpardonable tyrannical act to stir up distrust in the association.
    He strongly demanded the Japanese authorities probe the truth behind the incident as early as possible as it seriously hamstrung the efforts of the Koreans to develop the association and hit hard its operation.

S. Korean GNP's Treachery Denounced

     Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The Grand National Party of south Korea recently railroaded a "resolution" on the north's "human rights issue" through the "national assembly" where it holds a majority. Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary dismisses this as an unpardonable insult and another blatant challenge and provocation to the north.
    The commentary goes on:
    The GNP is a group of traitors seeking a way out in the confrontation with the north, as it keeps raising a hue and cry over "human rights" to add fuel to the fire though the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. assumes more serious nature.
    This time the GNP pulled up someone over the non-existent "human rights issue", shelving the serious human rights abuses in south Korea. This is nothing but nonsense which can be talked only by dolts who are totally unaware of reality and sophism made by the criminals out of guilty conscience.
    The GNP is becoming more zealous in its pro-U.S. sycophantic acts to more desperately pursue confrontation with the north.
    Such behavior of the GNP is nothing but the last-ditch frenzy of the doomed.
    The GNP's loudmouthed "cooperation" with the U.S. is no more than a desperate effort of those who have been thrown into an abyss of ruin and its ridiculous clamour for "human rights" is nothing but a shrill cry of those who are in the depths of despair.

Highly Efficient Oxygen Absorbent Developed

     Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The catalyst institute of Kim Il Sung University in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has developed an absorbent for the production of fine gas. The absorbent,badly needed for metal industry and study of high-tech materials, directly reacts with oxygen without hydrogen and other additions to remove it.
    According to dr. Kye Yong of the institute, the absorbent can reduce oxygen in the air below 0.1 ppm.
    When it is resolved with hydrogen, the absorbent can be regenerated several times.
    Its introduction ensures the main quality indices of products and keeps production on a high level.

Japanese Reactionaries' Terrorism against Chongryon under Fire

     Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea in a statement on August 5 urged the Japanese reactionaries to stop at once all forms of provocative acts of threatening the lives and properties of Koreans in Japan, ferret out criminals and punish them severely, while taking proper measures to root out terrorism against the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) as early as possible. The gravity of the recent incidents lies in the fact that the anti-Chongryon moves of the Japanese reactionaries have reached such a dangerous phase as shooting and explosive-throwing, going beyond the phase of threat and blackmail, he noted, and went on:
    The Japanese authorities are entirely to blame for the recent terrorism against Chongryon and Koreans as they have protected and encouraged the right-wing reactionaries in their crimes.
    It is the strong resolution and will of the Korean people to force Japan to pay a very high price not only for its past crimes but for the criminal acts perpetrated against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan up to this date from the end of the war.
    If the Japanese reactionaries persist in their hostile acts against the DPRK and Chongryon, they will be held wholly responsible for all the ensuing consequences.
