KCNA Assails U.S. "Logic of Strength"

Pyongyang, January 7 (KCNA) -- The joint New Year editorial of the Party, the army and the youth league of the DPRK called for exerting utmost efforts to strengthen the front of anti-imperialism and military affairs this year. The situation on the Korean peninsula has reached a grave phase due to the Bush administration's extremely hostile policy towards the DPRK.
It is important to settle the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. peacefully through dialogue in order to ease the tension and ensure peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.
The DPRK has already put forward an innovative proposal on a package solution to the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. on the principle of simultaneous actions at the six-way talks.
This is a realistic, just and fair proposal as it takes into account the background against which the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. surfaced and the present situation.
It is well known that the nuclear issue was a product of the U.S. hostile policy towards the DPRK and its nuclear threat and it has further deteriorated since the emergence of the Bush administration.
Had the Bush administration abandoned its hostile policy towards the DPRK and not singled out it as part of an "axis of evil," a target of its preemptive nuclear attack, the nuclear issue would have not reached such a serious phase.
Consistent is the DPRK's principled stand to seek a negotiated peaceful solution to the nuclear issue.
The U.S. administration should respond to this magnanimity in good faith.
Nevertheless, the U.S. is stepping up the preparations for a new war, massively shipping into south Korea high-tech weapons mainly including the weapons tested in the Iraqi and Afghan wars.
The U.S. is grossly mistaken if it thinks it can bring the DPRK to its knees with a military threat as it did to other countries.
The DPRK will always react with the toughest policy to the U.S. hardline policy of totally denying and threatening the dignified idea and system of its own style.
This is a legitimate option for self-defence as it is aimed to defend the nation's sovereignty and right to existence and ensure peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and in the region.
The DPRK will further strengthen the front of anti-imperialism and military affairs to cope with the U.S. escalated threat and react to the U.S. "logic of strength" with strength.

DPRK to Remain True to Idea of Independence, Peace and Friendship

Pyongyang, January 7 (KCNA) -- It is necessary for every country to foil the imperialists' moves for aggression and war, ensure lasting global peace and security and steadily improve friendly relations with other countries in order to build an independent and peaceful new world, says Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in a signed article. Noting that independence, peace and friendship are an avowed idea of the foreign policy of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government, the article says that this idea is a noble one common to humankind as it makes it possible for the world people to strengthen international solidarity and make a genuine contribution to accomplishing the global cause of independence.
The DPRK strictly maintains independence in its external relations, among other things, the article says, and goes on:
It is the basic principle observed by the DPRK in its activities to think and judge all problems from its independent stand and act according to its own faith and solve all the issues independently.
It is an essential requirement proceeding from the true nature of the socialist system in the DPRK to realize the idea of peace.
The DPRK has exerted positive efforts to foil the imperialists' anti-DPRK offensive in unity with all peace-loving forces, achieve peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and defend peace and security in Asia and other parts of the world.
It is a consistent stand of the DPRK government to develop friendly relations with the world people advocating independence. It will improve good-neighborly and friendly relations with all the countries in the world on the principle of independence and international justice. It will also strive to improve relations with those countries that had been hostile toward it in the past if they respect the sovereignty of the DPRK and drop a wrong policy toward it.

The editorial called upon all the fellow countrymen to bring about a turning phase in the reunification movement this year under the slogan "Let us pave a wide avenue for independent reunification through national cooperation under the banner of our nation-first spirit!"
Paek Ryong Chon, department director of the Secretariat of the Cabinet, said that the call was a just and patriotic initiative.
He noted that the 70 million Koreans should take practical actions to cope with the nation's confrontation with the U.S. in the Korean nation-first spirit in order to foil the U.S. policy to stifle the DPRK and its moves for a new war.
Kim Thaek Bong, department director of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, said that the Koreans have grasped the philosophical truth that national cooperation is the only way for the nation to survive and achieve reunification in the last more than three years that witnessed signal events in the movement for the independent reunification.

He underscored the need for the Koreans to fully realize inter-Korean economic cooperation in the Korean nation-first spirit and steadily boost national cooperation this year.
Ri Chung Bok, vice director of the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, said there would be no problem in achieving reunification if the Koreans pool efforts with pride and self-confidence that the Korean nation is the best. He expressed his determination to organize diverse work for national reconciliation and unity between the north and the south and reunification under the banner of the Korean nation-first spirit this year, too, and thus put powerful spurs to the movement for national reunification.

Removal of Candle-light Monument Protested in S. Korea

Pyongyang, January 7 (KCNA) -- Public circles of south Korea strongly protested the forcible removal of the "Candle-light Monument to Independence and Peace" which had been erected in front of Kwanghwamun, Seoul. The Jongro District Office turned loose by surprise members of the evacuating team in this action on January 2. It had branded it as an "illegal structure violating the traffic rule," hating it as a thorn in their eyes.
When members of the All-People Measure Committee for Schoolgirls Killed by a U.S. Armored Car went to the office and protested such action, the latter tried to justify it, saying it "gave time of over two months to transfer it to a suitable place".
The director of the Secretariat of the committee said that though the authorities removed the monument, they would not be able to dampen the desire of the people for independence and peace, declaring the people would rebuild the monument and take a strong action against the district office which ignored their will.
On the evening of Jan. 3 the committee called a candle-light rally involving at least 100 persons at the place where the monument had been standing.
Figures of different circles expressed their indignation at the rally, asking the "government": "Do you grudge people the land less than a phyong for the monument that would guard our nation's self-respect, while readily complying with the demand of the United States for the site of Toksu Palace to build its new embassy building and apartment house?"

It said the joint editorial of the north summed up the proud struggle last year that recorded the heroic epic of victory under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il and indicated the guideline for the new year.
    It went on:
The slogan of the editorial "Let us pave a wide avenue for independent reunification through national cooperation under the banner of our nation-first spirit!" serves as a programmatic guideline that should be firmly maintained by the Korean nation in the movement for the country's reunification. The south Korean people, together with the brothers and sisters of the north, will promote the cause of reunification on the principles of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity and make energetic efforts to fully realize national cooperation, proudly upholding the Korean nation-first spirit.
The south Korean people will glorify this year with a great turn in accelerating national reunification by defending and implementing the June 15 joint declaration under the banner of the Korean nation-first spirit with immense national pride of having Kim Jong Il in high esteem. And we will grandly and significantly greet 2005 in which falls the 60th anniversary of national liberation, the statement concluded.

Implementation of DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration Called for

Pyongyang, January 7 (KCNA) -- Consistent is the DPRK's political stand towards Japan. The relations between the DPRK and Japan will make substantial progress if they sincerely fulfil their commitments made in the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration. Minju Joson today says this in a signed commentary. It goes on:
The DPRK-Japan relations have reached the worst phase and they may sow the seed of conflict that can seriously affect global peace and security.
This is entirely attributable to the irresponsible attitude of the Japanese government which has pursued a hostile policy toward the DPRK with extreme antipathy towards the latter.
The Japanese government is working hard to enact an internal law calling for unilateral "economic sanctions against north Korea" in case it is impossible to impose collective economic sanctions and blockade upon it.
It is clear to everyone that this is, in fact, a flagrant perfidy to the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration and reckless behavior to push the bilateral relations to an irreversible phase.
It is a serious mistake for Japan to seek a sinister political aim by taking advantage of the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK and its moves to stifle it. Such pro-U.S. one-sided policy of Japan will only render it further isolated in Northeast Asia.
The DPRK has made every possible patient effort to improve the bilateral relations, prompted by its noble intention to contribute to global peace and stability.
The Japanese government had better drop its outmoded conception of confrontation and boldly drop its present short-sighted policy towards the DPRK. This would also do Japan good.

It sponsors the national flower exhibition every year and provides various species of flowers to parks, pleasure grounds, streets and villages according to seasons.
It is also engaged in exchange of horticultural technologies, import and export of flower seeds, joint venture and collaboration with many countries.
Several international flower exhibitions have taken place under the sponsorship of the center.
The centre cultivates and sells chrysanthemum, peony, gladiolus, rose, narcissus and other flowers for pots, various species of flower seeds, flower shrubs, garden trees and saplings. It also produces artificial flowers, floral baskets, straw goods and stuffed specimen. Some of them are cultivated or made by the centre jointly with foreign companies.

Economic Achievements of Korean People in New Year

Pyongyang, January 7 (KCNA) -- The Korean people are registering big successes in the efforts to carry out tasks set forth in the joint New Year editorial. The workers of the Chollima Steel Complex are turning out large quantities of steel by raising the operation rate of converters from the outset of the year. On January 1, they raised the steel production 1.5 times the daily average figure of last year by increasing the number of teemings while considerably reducing the electricity consumption per ton.
The electricity producers of the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex are carrying out their daily quotas at 116 percent.
The Sinchang Youth and other coal mines have introduced advanced cutting method into production. As a result, they are overfulfilling their daily assignments by more than 50 percent.
The workers in the field of railway transport including the Pyongyang Railway Bureau are transporting more freight than their plans with a bold and ambitious operation. Signal successes are also reported from the forestry sector including the Chonma Forestry Station.
The workers in the field of light industry including the Pyongyang Textile Mill and the Sinuiju Cosmetics Factory have boosted the production of consumer goods from the beginning of the year by making an effective use of the existing production foundation and pushing ahead with technical modernization.
Scientists are now intensifying researches with a goal of putting the nation's IT, nanotechnology and bioengineering on the world level as early as possible.

Rodong Sinmun on Practical Ways for Peace and Reunification of Korea

Pyongyang, January 7 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun in a signed article today calls on the north and the south to take practical actions to settle the Korean nation's confrontation with the U.S. in its struggle to defend peace on the Korean peninsula and achieve the country's reunification. The U.S. is chiefly to blame for the harassed peace and stability on the Korean peninsula, the article says, adding: The U.S. does not want the Korean peninsula to be reunified and it is not pleased with the improved inter-Korean relations. It does not care whether Korea remains divided or whether it falls victim to a nuclear disaster as it is keen only on its own interests.
Last year the Korean nation has waged a vigorous movement for reunification in the idea of "By our nation itself," pursuant to the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, the article says, citing detailed facts to prove that the U.S. kicked up a reckless nuclear racket and desperately escalated its war moves in a bid to scuttle the Korean nation's process of reconciliation and cooperation from the outset of last year.
    The article continues:
The U.S. will not present the Korean nation with peace and reunification in any case as it is keen to realize its ambition for world supremacy. Its much talk about the six-way talks over the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. is nothing but high-flown rhetoric.
All the Koreans in the north, the south and abroad should achieve national cooperation and wage a valiant anti-U.S. and anti-war struggle irrespective of ideology, political view and religious belief in the era of independence and reunification.
They will pool efforts and deal a sledge-hammer blow at the U.S. arrogant moves to launch a war of aggression against the DPRK and reject the sycophantic traitors in south Korea cooperating with the U.S. in its anti-peace and anti-reunification moves.
