Reception Given by Cuban Ambassador
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- Cuban Ambassador to the DPRK Esteban Lobaina Romero hosted a reception at the embassy on February 9 on the occasion of the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il.
The ambassador in his speech said that February 16, the birthday of Kim Jong Il who is carrying forward the cause of President Kim Il Sung, is the most significant day to the world progressives struggling for peace, social justice and progress.
Noting that Kim Jong Il has wisely led the struggle to defend the sovereignty of the country and the nation and the cause of socialism with his Songun politics, he said that no matter how desperate the U.S. imperialists may be, they will not break the united strength of the peoples of Cuba and Korea who are ready to devote their all to defending socialism under the guidance of their great leaders.
He wished the Korean people greater success in their struggle to build a great prosperous powerful nation, defend the national sovereignty and reunify the country independently and peacefully under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, said in his speech: Kim Jong Il was born as the legendary son of the guerrillas and soared as the bright star of Mt. Paektu. This was a historic event that surely guaranteed the carrying forward and accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche started by Kim Il Sung.
He was satisfied with the fact that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries based on the particularly comradely relationship between the leaders of the two countries have grown stronger invariably even under the complex situation, he noted.
He stressed that the Korean people are sincerely rejoiced over the fact that the fraternal Cuban people are registering significant successes in their struggle to build up the defence capability in every way and defend socialism and revolution in the face of the ever-more undisguised U.S. imperialists' moves for aggression and interference under the correct leadership of Fidel Castro Ruz and hoped that everything will go well in Cuba in the future, too.
Present there on invitation were Kim Yong Jin, minister of Education who is chairman of the Korea-Cuba Solidarity Committee, and Pak Sun Hui, chairperson of the Central Committee of the Korean Democratic Women's Union, Mun Jae Chol, acting chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and officials concerned.

Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- Colorful functions of servicepersons of the Korean People's Army took place at the April 25 House of Culture on February 9 in the run-up to February 16, the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il.
At the public presentation of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces on the greatness of Supreme Commander of the KPA Kim Jong Il, Jo Myong Rok, director of the General Political Department of the KPA, Kim Yong Chun, chief of the General Staff of the KPA and other speakers said that Kim Jong Il who was born as the sun of the guerrillas on Mt. Paektu, a holy mountain of the revolution, is a great statesman, great brilliant commander and great man unprecedented in history.
They cited historical facts proving that the Supreme Commander has trained the KPA to be a vanguard rank and invincible army of devotedly defending the leader, firmly believing in the officers and men of the KPA as the pillars of revolution and comrades of the Songun revolution, showing warm solicitude for them and putting them forward.
They stressed the need for all the officers and men of the KPA to dynamically struggle to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation, achieve the reunification of the country and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche, reliably upholding the Songun idea and leadership of Kim Jong Il, the illustrious commander of Mt. Paektu and the sun of the 21st century, with arms.
An art performance was given by art groups of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces to celebrate February 16. The performers put on the stage numbers including chorus, real story-telling, poem and story-telling which sing of boundless trust and reverence of the army and people for the Supreme Commander.
A fine art exhibition of the KPA opened to celebrate February 16.
On display were at least 200 pieces of excellent works including computer-aided dioramas, Korean paintings, oil paintings, posters, sculptures, woodcut prints, calligraphic works created by creators and servicepersons of the KPA.
KCNA Assails Japan for Distorting History
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- An ultra-rightist conservative organization of Japan in a recent statement let loose a string of sophism that the story that more than 8.4 million Koreans were forcibly drafted by the Japanese imperialists in the past was totally groundless, adding that most of the Koreans in Japan came there according to their free will.
This is another burlesque orchestrated by the Japanese reactionaries to distort the history as it reveals their shameless intention to negate and justify its past crimes and their moral vulgarity.
Japan invaded Korea in the past, forcibly took away millions of young and middle-aged Koreans and committed such hideous crimes against humanity as crimes related to the comfort women for the imperial Japanese army during their military occupation and rule over Korea. This is an undeniable historical fact.
Even now tens of thousands of families of victims live in Korea, their bitter grudge against the Japanese imperialists unvented, and there are not a few survivors. Most of the 700,000 Koreans residing in Japan are either victims and their children or their descendents.
"Compulsory labor", "conscription", "student soldier" and "voluntary labor corps" and other words are recorded in the publications and official documents in those days and the modern history related to Korea-Japan relations. Are all these terminologies not evidence proving the truth about the forcible drafting?
Terauchi, who was the first governor general of Korea of the Japanese imperialists, blustered that "Koreans should abide by the Japanese law or die". This outcry suffices to show what the "free will" granted by Japan to the Koreans was like.
The Japanese imperialists took away boys and girls, to say nothing of young and middle-aged Koreans, to Japan under this or that pretext from the early period of their occupation of Korea and forced them to do slave labor. They were hell-bent on the forcible requisition of labor force in a bid to settle the shortage of labor force during the continental aggression and the Pacific war.
The crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists against humanity can never be concealed nor be negated.
It is the legal and moral responsibility of Japan and the unanimous demand of the international community for Japan to frankly admit and apologize for and repent of its past crimes.
If Japan makes a mockery of the history by shamelessly working to tamper with it and inventing lies in a bid to evade its responsibility, it will add to its hideous crimes and will not be able to shake itself of the ill-fame of being a "war criminal state."
Agricultural Workers Meet
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- A meeting of agricultural workers was held at the People's Palace of Culture on February 9 to celebrate the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il.
Speakers said at the meeting that his birth as the bright star of Mt. Paektu was a nation's great joy and a great fortune of the Korean people and a historic event which opened a bright future of carrying forward and accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche.
He went to Ryanggang, Jagang, South Hwanghae and South Phyongan provinces and other places of the country and gave energetic guidance to build the rural villages into a fairyland of socialism and increase the grain production, they stressed.
They called upon all the agricultural workers to become true patriotic farmers who actively contribute to accelerating the building of a great prosperous powerful nation true to the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Present there were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned, officials of the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea and agricultural workers.
A performance of the 32nd national art festival of agricultural workers was given at the People's Palace of Culture on the same day to celebrate February 16.
In the narration and chorus, female duet and other numbers the performers vividly sang of the facts that the dignity and honor of the nation is being demonstrated to the world and a new history of changes are being made on this land thanks to Kim Jong Il.
Young People Pledge Loyalty
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- A loyal oath-taking rally of officials of the youth league and youths and children from all parts of the country took place in front of the old home of leader Kim Jong Il in the secret camp of Mt. Paektu on Feb. 9 to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche, true to his Songun revolutionary leadership.
At the call of Kim Kyong Ho, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, the participants made a pledge of loyalty with unbreakable faith and will to make the long journey of the Songun revolution to the very end under the leadership of Kim Jong Il; the journey that started in Mt. Paektu.
They said they would be a death-defying corps devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution as the anti-Japanese young vanguard and heroes of human-bomb and fighters of self-blasting explosion in our era did, with unquestioned trust in him.
They underscored the need to firmly defend the idea of the youth movement and leadership feats of the party and the leader and make the youth league an organization of the Songun revolution with strong organization, unity and militancy and a reserve combat unit and detached force of Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il.
At the end of the rally, they were briefed on the old home in the secret camp of Mt. Paektu and then saw round the mementoes of the old home with keen interest and the boundless reverence for him.
Rodong Sinmun on Kim Jong Il's Immortal Exploits
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il formulated President Kim Il Sung's revolutionary idea as an integral system of Juche-oriented idea, theory and method and proclaimed it as the supreme programme of the Workers' Party of Korea to model the whole society on the Juche idea 3o years ago. This marked a significant occasion in the history of the party and the revolution. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed article.
The important historic task of carrying forward Kim Il Sung's idea and cause in the Korean revolution was successfully solved by Kim Jong Il possessed of incomparably extraordinary ideological and theoretical wisdom and leadership ability and unusual qualification and trait as a politician of a general type, the article says, and goes on:
His 40-year long history of revolutionary leadership represents a glorious history in which Kim Il Sung's idea and cause have been successfully carried forward.
The cause of perpetuating the memory of the President was most successfully accomplished and one victory after another was won in the confrontation with the imperialists in the 1990s. This was, indeed, an unforgettable decade that represented a revolutionary history of great succession.
Kim Il Sung's revolutionary idea has been steadily carried forward and developed to meet the requirements of the era and serves as a militant banner leading the Korean revolution and the cause of independence to victory. This is the most precious exploit as it helped glorify the history of succession to the revolutionary cause of Juche.
Kim Jong Il formulated Kim Il Sung's revolutionary idea and clarified its absolute position in the history of human thought in his historic work published on February 19, 1974. It was an event of weighty significance.
He published many famous works including "Socialism Is a Science" and "On the Fundamental Problems in Building the Revolutionary Party" in the 1990s. These works serve as militant banners as they indicated the ways of leading the Korean revolution and the cause of independence to victory despite the imperialists' counter-revolutionary offensive.
He, with a deep insight into the ever-changing conditions and environment of the revolution in the 21st century, set out the Songun idea. This is an immortal exploit as he provided a treasured sword for winning a sure victory in the popular masses' cause of independence. It is the greatest feat he performed in carrying forward Kim Il Sung's idea that he has steadily developed and enriched his revolutionary idea to be a weapon to carry out an uninterrupted revolution through his energetic ideological and theoretical activities and glorified the glorious history of the revolution of Juche advancing with the might of ideology.
Provocative Remarks of Representative of GNP Assailed
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson in a signed commentary today raps at utterances of Choe Pyong Ryol, representative of the south Korean Grand National Party, getting on the nerves of the DPRK in his recent "speech made on behalf of his party at the National Assembly" some time ago. He said he was really worried over the tilting of the social trend of south Korea toward anti-U.S. and pro-north.
The commentary says:
However desperately Choe may kick and scream, gone are the days when "pro-north" was called in question and falsely incriminated. Anti-U.S. and national cooperation are the desire and will of all the Koreans that nobody can dampen.
Choe revealed his true colors as a pro-U.S. flunkeyist traitor, an anti-DPRK confrontation fanatic and an anti-reunification element by showing such anti-north hysterics. For this he has made himself a target of bitterer curse and denunciation, rejection and abandonment by the nation. There is no future for those who go against the nation and resort to treacheries and their lot is woefully miserable. This is proved by the end of the preceding ruling quarters of the GNP.
Choe should stop running amuck, mindful that he can never be an exception.
Japan's Perfidy to DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration Assailed
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionary rulers recently passed the "amendment to the law on foreign exchange" through the House of Representatives and adopted it as a state policy to apply economic sanctions against the DPRK. This diametrically runs counter to the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration, says Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in a signed commentary.
The commentary goes on:
Article 3 of the declaration published in September 2002 confirmed that both sides shall observe international law and refrain from doing any act of threatening the security of the other side.
Japan, however, passed the amendment through the Diet which allows it to stop the remittance to the DPRK and trade with it and put in motion the measure of unilaterally applying sanctions against the DPRK without any UN resolution or international agreement.
The DPRK has done everything it could to respect and implement the declaration ever since its publication. Japan, however, has since openly violated it and escalated its anti-DPRK moves.
With nothing can Japan justify its reckless perfidious act of violating the declaration.
Japan will have to be held wholly responsible for the catastrophic consequences to be caused to the bilateral relations by its rash acts, the commentary warns.
DPRK FM Spokesman Refutes U.S. Story about "Transfer of N- Technology" to DPRK
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry gave the following answer to a question put by KCNA Tuesday refuting the U.S. fiction about the "transfer of nuclear technology" to the DPRK.
The United States is now hyping the story about the "transfer of nuclear technology" to the DPRK by a Pakistani scientist in a bid to make the DPRK's "enriched uranium program" sound plausible.
This is nothing but a mean and groundless propaganda.
This is so sheer lie that the DPRK does not bat an eyelid even a bit.
The U.S. trite smear campaign would only reveal its deplorable position and will convince no one.
What matters here is why the U.S. is so persistently setting afloat such unverifiable fiction about the DPRK's "enriched uranium program".
This is aimed to scour the interior of the DPRK on the basis of a legitimate mandate and attack it just as what it did in Iraq in the end and invent a pretext to escape isolation and scuttle the projected six-way talks for the present.
The U.S. smear campaign would only provide the DPRK with an opportunity to realize once again what a just measure it took to build nuclear deterrent force.
Japan's Intention to Tighten Nexus with U.S. Flailed
Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries' tightened Japan-U.S. alliance is not intended to ensure security but to exercise the right to collective self-defense and conduct military operations overseas under that pretext, create ample legal conditions for militarist overseas aggression and convert Japan into a war state, says Minju Joson Tuesday in a signed commentary.
They seek to expand the operational sphere of the Self-Defense Forces on the not far off Korean peninsula where the situation remains tense due to the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK and thus realize their vaulting ambition for reinvasion whatever the cost.
This is clearly proved by the fact that Japan cited military threat from the DPRK and its security concern as a pretext for calling for the tightened Japan-U.S. alliance.
It was only recently that Japan unilaterally passed the amendment to the law on foreign exchange and foreign trade through the Diet in violation of not only the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration but international law including international convention on norms of relations among countries. Japan is also acting a shock brigade in implementing the U.S. moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK by blockading it in both territorial air and waters.
The DPRK can never remain a passive on-looker to Japan which is posing a grave threat to global peace and stability and giving spurs to the moves to realize its ambition to reinvade Korea.
The army and the people of the DPRK are closely watching Japan as it has designated the DPRK as a target and is set to reinvade it.
If Japan runs amuck despite the DPRK's repeated warnings, it will take a strong and resolute counter-measure for self-defense.
Japan should clearly face up to the reality and think and act with reason.

DPRK and China to Take Joint Action in Upcoming Six-way Talks

Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan visited China from February 7 to 10 at the invitation of the Chinese side.
During their stay he and his party met with Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and his party and Executive Vice- Minister Dai Bingguo and had friendly talks with Vice-Minister Wang Yi.
Both sides had an exhaustive discussion of a series of issues of mutual concern including the issue of bilateral relations, nuclear issue and the issue of six-way talks.
They admitted the reasonability of the package proposal of simultaneous actions for the solution of the nuclear issue and the DPRK-proposed "reward in return for freeze," the first-phase measure, and agreed to take joint actions to make substantial progress in the next round of the six-way talks.
