Visit to Kimjongilia Festival

     Pyongyang, February 15 (KCNA) -- Foreign diplomatic envoys and representatives of international organizations here visited the 8th Kimjongilia Festival on Feb. 14 on the occasion of the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il. They saw round Kimjongilias in full bloom representing the best wishes of the Korean people and progressive mankind for Kim Jong Il.
    At the end of their visit they made entries in the visitors' book.
    Palestinian Ambassador Shaher Mohammed Abdlah who is doyen of the diplomatic corps here wrote that the visit to the festival provided him with an opportunity to realize the singlehearted unity of the Korean people close around Kim Jong Il.
    Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov wrote that through the visit he could feel the might of all the Korean people singleheartedly united around Kim Jong Il.

Large Basket of Flowers from Cambodian King

     Pyongyang, February 15 (KCNA) -- A large basket of flowers was sent to the DPRK embassy in Phnom Penh by Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk on Feb. 12 on the occasion of the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il. Kong Sam Ol, deputy-minister of Royal Ministry, at the instruction of the king, paid a congratulatory visit to the embassy together with the secretary and deputy-secretaries of state of the Royal Ministry to place the floral basket in the name of the king before the portraits of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and pay tribute to them.
    Written on the ribbon of the basket were words "Glory to HE Marshal Kim Jong Il, the great leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Norodom Sihanouk, king of Cambodia".
    On the occasion, the deputy-minister said that the king authorized him to convey the King's best wishes for the good health of Kim Jong Il and warm congratulations to him on his birthday.
    After looking round the photos showing his revolutionary activities and exploits performed by Kim Jong Il, the deputy-minister paid deep respects to him who has conducted tireless activities for the country and the people.

More Financial Scam of GNP Disclosed

     Pyongyang, February 15 (KCNA) -- The crisis of the Grand National Party of south Korea is now beyond control as it is under stronger fire by the public for the illicit presidential election fund scandals and its recent operation to rescue So Chong Won, says Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed commentary. It was recently disclosed that this party squeezed bonds worth 17 billion won from Samsung Group during the last presidential election, more evidence proving the irregularities and corrupt politics of the GNP, the commentary says, and goes on:
    The GNP, styling itself No. 1 party, has escalated its political offensive even after the disclosure of the hideous illicit financial scams. Recently it resorted to all sorts of gimmick, carrying out a shake-up and calling for changing the name of the party as the public grew increasingly critical of the party. This, however, proved futile.
    The GNP is now on the verge of collapse, a well-deserved outcome of its treacherous acts and an unavoidable fate of the party. The GNP motley crew bent on treachery and corruption has committed such sycophantic treacherous acts as betraying the dignity and the interests of the country and the nation while reigning over the people by pursuing unpopular politics and robbing them of their money. New Documentary Film Previewed

     Pyongyang, February 15 (KCNA) -- A preview of the documentary film "Great Succession" took place at the People's Palace of Culture Saturday on the occasion of the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il. Appreciating the film were leading cadres of the Party and State, chairpersons of friendly parties, members of the Cabinet, senior officials of ministries, national institutions and working people's organizations, officials of the Party and power bodies and working people's organizations and working people in Pyongyang.
    The documentary film shows the personality of Kim Jong Il as a great man identical to President Kim Il Sung and the immortal feats performed by him in carrying forward and accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche.
    The film emphasizes that the history of his revolutionary activities is the one of the great successor who is leading the revolutionary cause of Juche started on Mt. Paektu to a brilliant victory, true to the idea and intension of the President.

Reception in Honor of Russian Dance Company

     Pyongyang, February 15 (KCNA) -- The National Defence Commission of the DPRK hosted a reception at the People's Palace of Culture on Feb. 14 in honor of the State Academic Moiseyev Dance Company led by Elena Scherbakova, director of the dance company. Ji Jae Ryong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, in a speech said that the dance company widely known to the world for its energetic art activities and refined skill is popular among Koreans.
    The company has positively contributed to promoting friendship among world people and developing the genuine art through the truthful representation of national customs and optimistic life of people of various countries in dance pieces, he stressed.
    Elena Scherbakova in a speech said that the company was pleased to come to the DPRK to give performances at the time when the Korean people are celebrating the birthday of Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.

National Meeting Held

     Pyongyang, February 15 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held at the April 25 House of Culture today to celebrate February 16, the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il. Present there were senior officials of the Party, the State and the army, senior officials of the party, armed forces organs, power organs and working people's organizations, anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, former unconverted long-term prisoners who are pro-reunification patriotic fighters, servicepersons of the Korean People's Army, officials in the field of science, education, culture, arts, public health and the media and working people in the city.
    Also present there were congratulatory groups and delegations of Koreans from Japan and other regions of the world, overseas Koreans and the chief of the Pyongyang Mission of the National Democratic Front of South Korea.
    Foreign diplomatic envoys here and foreign guests were present on invitation.
    Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK who is alternate member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK, made a report titled "The respected Comrade Kim Jong Il is an outstanding leader of the revolution who is leading the revolutionary cause of Juche to victory with the great Songun politics."
    He noted that February 16 specially recorded in the history of the emotion-charged 20th century had been marked as the day of great fortune when the Koreans and the world progressives acclaimed the peerlessly great man, the sun of the 21st century, who would lead the sacred cause of independence to its final victory.
    Kim Jong Il represents the Juche-based politics in our era and is the most prominent statesman in the present world, he noted, and continued:

U.S. Moves to Ignite War of Aggression against DPRK Denounced

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- The United States worked out the "new operation plan 5026", which indicates that it is making the start of a war of aggression against the DPRK an established fact and frantically pushing forward its preparations, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary. The plan is a very dangerous war scenario to realize the bellicose Bush forces' reckless strategy to stifle the DPRK and their brigandish attempt to mount a preemptive nuclear attack as it means a perfect version of their earlier plans for a war against the DPRK, the commentary notes, and goes on: What should not be overlooked is that the U.S. military has already examined the possibility of putting the plan into practice.
    The new war scenario suggests that the outcries of the U.S. imperialists that north Korea is the next target after Iraq are not a mere threat but a preliminary declaration of war against the DPRK.
    The reality clearly shows what a reckless and dangerous phase the U.S. moves for a war of aggression against the DPRK have reached.
    The DPRK has so far made every sincere effort to peacefully settle the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. However, the U.S. imperialists are hatching a plot to start a war of aggression behind the curtain of a "peaceful solution" to the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S., a challenge to the DPRK.
    The developments confirm once again that warning is not enough for those lunatics shaking their fists.
    The U.S. imperialists must stop acting rashly and drop their reckless plan for aggression against the DPRK at once, properly understanding the determination of the army and people of the DPRK to repel any aggression and defend peace on the Korean peninsula and the security of the nation, pursuant to the invincible Songun policy.

New Computer-aided Art Works Created

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- The Korean People's Army Studio has created a number of new computer-aided art works with the February holiday approaching. It presented computer-aided art works including the computer-aided diorama "Holding the Sword of Songun" to the KPA art show which opened on Feb. 9 in celebration of February 16.This diorama is an art work of a new genre to which computer technology and laser beam are applied to creation. The artists of the studio successfully created the computer-aided diorama "Sunrise on Mt. Paektu" in the first year of the new century as a work worthy of being valued as national treasure, breaking a new ground in the development of art.
    In the period they have completed many computer-aided dioramas as masterpieces reflecting the spirit of the era, greatly contributing to the development of the computer-aided art of the country.
    Notably, the computer-aided dioramas based on Korean paintings of full-length figure portraits of President Kim Il Sung, leader Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Suk, anti-Japanese war hero, are masterpieces worthy of being valued as national treasures.
    The computer-aided paintings created by the studio also include "Ullim Falls", "Lake Samji", "Maples in Kumgang," "Spring Thunder of Songun" and "Royal Azalea on Chol Pass" depicting the beautiful mountains and rivers of Korea taking on new looks and aspiration and sentiments of the people.

Korea's Reunification Supported by Benin President

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- Benin will invariably support Korea's efforts for reunification in the future, too. Beninese President Mathieu Kerekou said this when receiving credentials from the new DPRK ambassador on Feb. 6.
    President Kim Il Sung's plan for Korea's reunification is being successfully realized by the adoption of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and subsequent affirmative development of the north-south relations, he said.
    He congratulated the Korean people upon their many successes in the work for the development of the country, overcoming difficulties under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Preparatory Committees Inaugurated in Over 50 Countries

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- Brisk preparations for celebrating the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il were made in five continents. The joint Ecuadorian preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun and celebrating February 16 in 2004 was inaugurated by renown figures from all walks of life in Quito, Ecuador on November 23 last year. In its wake a preparatory committee was formed on the New Year's Day this year under the co-sponsorship of the Swiss Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification and the Pyongyang Cultural Interchange Center in Lausane, Switzerland. On January 14 the Cambodian preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun and celebrating February 16 was formed with the deputy prime minister in charge of the Royal Palace as chairman on the instructions of the king.
    February this year witnessed the inauguration of preparatory committees of various names in over 50 countries. Among them were the national preparatory committee of Democratic Congo for celebrating the February holiday, the preparatory committee of the Egyptian Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea for congratulating the Sun of the 21st century, the committee for remembering President Kim Il Sung on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his demise and the Polish preparatory committee for commemorating the national holiday of the Korean people, the preparatory committee of the Socialist Party of Benin for celebrating February 16, the Bangladesh preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun, celebrating February 16 and organizing functions on the occasion of July 8 and the Mongolian preparatory committee for organizing a month of congratulating the sun of the 21st century.
    The chairman of the Supreme Council of the Socialist Party of Romania, the general secretary of the Socialist Unionist Party of Syria, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Czechoslovak Communist Party, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the New Communist Party of Britain, the secretary general of the National Executive Committee of the People's Party for the Reconstruction and the Democracy of Democratic Congo, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) who is the vice-president of the Senate of Nepal, the vice-minister of Agriculture of Egypt and other heads of political parties and senior officials of governments of various countries were elected chairmen or honorary chairmen of the preparatory committees. The committees set periods of celebrating February 16 and decided to organize colorful functions including meetings, seminars, film shows and photo exhibitions in the period.

Parent Kimjongilia 16 Years Old

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- It is 16 years since parent Kimjongilia bloomed in the DPRK amidst world progressives' boundless reverence and best wishes for leader Kim Jong Il. A Japanese floriculturist, attracted by Kim Jong Il's personality as a great man, presented him with a potted parent flower in February Juche 77 (1988). Three flowers came into bloom on this pot on the occasion of his birthday this year.
    This flower can bear buds for more than 15 years. This year, too, there appeared on its strong stem beautiful red flowers, attracting the eyes of visitors.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman on DPRK Visit of Japanese FM. Delegation

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry gave the following answer to a question put by KCNA on Feb. 14 as regards the DPRK visit by a delegation of the Japanese Foreign Ministry: The delegation of the Japanese Foreign Ministry led by Deputy Foreign Minister Hitoshi Tanaka visited the DPRK from February 11 to 14, 2004 at the request of the Japanese side.
    During its stay the delegation paid a courtesy call on Kang Sok Ju, first vice minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, and had talks with the DPRK side's delegation led by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Yong Il.
    The issue of the DPRK-Japan relations, the nuclear issue and the issue of abduction were discussed at the talks.
    As regards the bilateral issue the DPRK side demanded the Japanese side clarify its willingness to implement the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration and strongly accused it of persistently resorting to its moves to stifle the DPRK by legislating on applying sanctions against the DPRK. It reclarified its stand to react to the hard-line policy with the toughest stand.
    As regards the nuclear issue, the DPRK side said that the realization of its proposal for a reward for the freeze of its nuclear activities, the first-phase measure for a simultaneous package solution, would be beneficial to the Japanese side, too. It said if the Japanese side raises again the "abduction issue" at the next round of the six-way talks the DPRK side will resolutely shut out Japan's participation in the talks as requested by the army and the people of the DPRK and this will bring everything to a collapse.
    As regards the abduction issue, the DPRK side branded the detention of five Japanese abductees in Japan by the Japanese side in breach of the promise it had made to the DPRK as the other form of abduction. It clarified its stand that the issue of the dead admits of no further argument as it had already been probed.
    The DPRK side strongly urged Japan to fully apologize and compensate for its crimes such as forcibly drafting more than 8.4 million Koreans during its colonial rule and military occupation over it in the past and other hideous human rights abuses. It also strongly demanded the Japanese side immediately return to the DPRK over 20 Koreans abducted by a Japanese plot-breeding organization in the DPRK-China border areas recently at tacit connivance of the authorities.

13th International Figure-Skating Festival for Paektusan Cup Opens

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- The 13th International Figure-Skating Festival for Paektusan Cup was held in Pyongyang. An opening ceremony of the festival was held in the Ice Rink on Feb. 14.
    Among those present there were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and officials concerned and foreigners.
    Jo Ryong Hyon, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) and other overseas compatriots were also present there.
    An opening speech was made by Jong In Chol, vice-chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, who is chairman of the organizing committee of the festival.
    Then followed a performance by a group of Korean figure-skaters.
    They impressively represented the unbounded reverence of the Korean people for Kim Jong Il and their firm faith and will to build a great prosperous powerful nation without fail under his leadership through such numbers as "Song of General Kim Jong Il", "Thunder on Jong Il Peak" and so on.
    There was also a demonstration performance of foreign figure skaters.
    They presented graceful and spectacular movements with high skills, deeply impressing the spectators.
    The festival will last till Feb. 16.

DPRK Ambassador to India Appointed

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- Mun Song Mo was appointed as ambassador e.p. of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the Republic of India, according to a decree of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly.

State Academic Moiseyev Dance Company Arrives

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- The State Academic Moiseyev Dance Company headed by Elena Scherbakova, director of the dance company, arrived here today. U.S. New Operation Plan Denounced

     Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) - A spokesman for the National Reconciliation Council in a statement released on Feb. 14 accuses the U.S. of having worked out a "new operation plan 5026" aimed to launch a surprise attack on the DPRK and running amuck to put it into practice and brands this as an unpardonable criminal act of dampening the ardent aspiration of the Korean nation for independence, peace and reunification. The statement said:
    This war scenario which may drive the whole Korean nation to a holocaust of a nuclear war has created the danger of rendering tenser the situation on the Korean peninsula heading for detente and peace and driving it to the brink of a war.
    The prevailing situation demands all Koreans in the north and the south turn out in a nation-wide anti-U.S., anti-war struggle to smash the U.S. moves for a new war, a threat to the destiny of the Korean nation, under the uplifted banner of our nation-first spirit.
    The statement ardently called on various political parties and groupings and people of all social standings in south Korea to more vigorously turn out in the nation-wide anti-U.S. resistance to frustrate the U.S. moves for a nuclear war and drive out of south Korea the U.S. imperialist aggression troops, chieftain of aggression, plunder and massacre.

Kim Jong Il inspecciona la Unidad No. 1549 del EPC

     Pyongyang, 14 de febrero (ATCC) --El Dirigente Kim Jong Il, Secretario General del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y Comandante Supremo del Ejercito Popular de Corea inspecciono la Unidad No. 1549 del EPC.     Tras enterarse del estado de cumplimiento del deber de la Unidad, el Dirigente presencio un ejercicio de los militares en la sala de leccion de ciencias militares.

     Pyongyang, 14 de febrero (ATCC) -- Una casa editorial y de divulgacion del Congo Democratico dio a luz el dia 6 en folleto la imperecedera obra clasica del Dirigente Kim Jong Il: "Priorizar la labor ideologica es requisito indispensable para el cumplimiento de la causa socialista", publicada el 19 de junio del 84 (1995) de la Era Juche. Esta obra dilucida la idea de que para llevar a buen termino la causa socialista es preciso tomar firmemente la labor ideologica y anteponerla a todas las labores y de que el deber principal de la labor ideologica es unicolorar a toda la sociedad segun la idea socialista y realizar la labor en cuestion segun los principios y metodos que convengan a la demanda esencial del socialismo.
    En el acto de presentacion de la obra, efectuado el dia 6, los oradores rindieron calurosa felicitacion al Dirigente Kim Jong Il en su cumpleanos, se refirieron al contenido y significado de la obra y expresaron la firme determinacion de participar activamente en el futuro en la labor de la edicion y divulgacion de sus obras.

Comites preparatorios por 16 de febrero en mas de 50 paises

     Pyongyang, 14 de febrero (ATCC) -- Los preparativos para celebrar con solemnidad el dia de nacimiento del Dirigente Kim Jong Il se han realizado animadamente en los 5 continentes. El 23 de noviembre del ano pasado las renombradas personalidades de distintos sectores organizaron en Quito el comite preparatorio comun de Ecuador por el Dia de Sol; el 16 de Febrero; el primer dia de enero de este ano, fue constituido el comite preparatorio de tal celebracion bajo el coauspicio del Comite Suizo de Apoyo a la Reunificacion de Corea y el Centro del Intercambio Cultural Pyongyang en Lausana y el 14 de enero, a orden del Rey de Camboya, el Comite Preparatorio de Camboya por el dia del Sol y el 16 de febrero con el vicepremier encargado de asuntos del palacio real como presidente.
    Seguidamente se organizaron en mas de 50 paises los comites preparatorios de diversos titulos, entre otros, el comite preparatorio nacional del Congo Democratico por la fiesta de febrero, el comite preparatorio del Comite de Estudio de la Idea Juche de Egipto por el Sol del siglo 21; el comite de recordacion al gran Presidente Kim Il Sung por el 10 aniversario de su fallecimiento y el comite preparatorio de Polonia por la fiesta nacional del pueblo coreano; el comite preparatorio del Partido Socialista de Benin por el 16 de febrero; el comite preparatorio de Bangladesh por el dia del Sol, el 16 de febrero y el 8 de julio; el comite preparatorio de Mongolia por el "Mes de acogida del Sol" del siglo 21.
    Como presidentes y presidentes de honor de dichos comites fueron electos los lideres de partidos politicos y altos funcionarios de los gobiernos de respectivos paises, entre otros, el presidente del Consejo Supremo del Partido Socialista de Rumania, el Secretario General del Partido Unido Socialista de Siria, el Secretario General del CC del Partido Comunista de Checoslovaquia, el Secretario General del CC del Nuevo Partido Comunista de Gran Bretana, el Secretario General del Comite Ejecutivo Nacional del Partido Popular por la Reconstruccion y la Democracia del Congo Democratico, el vicepresidente del senado y Secretario General del CC del Partido Comunista (Marxista-Leninista) de Nepal, el viceministro de Agricultura de Egipto, etc.
    Los comites preparatorios definieron el periodo de festejo por el 16 de febrero y decidieron organizar los mitines, simposios, proyecciones filmicas y exhibiciones de fotos y otras diversas actividades.
