Yemeni President on Friendly Relations with DPRK
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The relations between the two countries are on very good terms and Yemen values the relations with the DPRK and will make strenuous efforts to boost the friendly relations with the DPRK.
Ali Abdullah Saleh, president of the Republic of Yemen, said this when receiving credentials from Jon Hui Jong, new DPRK ambassador e. p. to the country, on March 16.
He hoped that the Korean people would achieve greater success in the struggle under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Preparatory Committee Formed in Egypt
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- A preparatory committee was inaugurated in Cairo on March 15 to commemorate the Day of the Sun.
Muhammad al Husseini al Akad, vice-minister of Agriculture, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.
The committee set the period from March 15 to April 15 for commemoration of the Day of the Sun and decided to hold colorful functions including commemoration meeting, remembrance meeting, seminar, film show and photo exhibition in this period.
NDFSK Makes Public Slogans to Fight against "Motion on Impeachment"
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The Information Department of the Central Committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea on March 17 made public slogans for an immediate struggle against the "motion on impeachment against the president", according to the Internet site of Kuguk Jonson.
Slogans said: The passage of the "motion on impeachment" through the National Assembly was a big political rebellion as it was an insult to the people's will and a disregard of them. The struggle against the impeachment should be carried to the end.
The "motion" railroaded through the NA against the people's mindset is null and void. The Constitutional Court should immediately turn down the "motion."
The railroading the "motion" through the NA was a parliamentary coup aimed at winning the "general election." Let us dissolve the political terror-ridden NA.
Let the progressive reform-minded forces judge the forces asserting impeachment by winning a victory in the "general election"!
The backstage wirepuller of the "motion on impeachment" is the U.S. The U.S., stop interfering in others' internal affairs!
Our people are not dead but alive. Let us lead the struggle against the impeachment to a victory in the "general election" with the courageous determination of the people!
Annual Meeting of DPRK-Cuba Solidarity Committee
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- An annual meeting of the DPRK-Cuba Solidarity Committee was held at the Taedonggang Club for the Diplomatic Corps here on March 18.
The meeting reviewed the one-year-long work of the committee for friendship and solidarity with the Cuban people who are vigorously advancing along the road of independence and socialism against imperialism and discussed the action program for this year.
Present were Kim Yong Jin, minister of Education who is chairman of the DPRK-Cuba Solidarity Committee, Jon Hyon Chan, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and members of the solidarity committee.
The staff members of the Cuban embassy in Pyongyang were on hand.
Reception Given by Russian Consul General
Chongjin, March 19 (KCNA) -- Arkady Lavrov, Russian consul general in Chongjin, hosted a reception at the Consulate General on March 18 on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the signing of the agreement on economic and cultural cooperation between the DPRK and the Russian Federation.
Invited there were Pak Su Gil, chairman of the North Hamgyong Provincial People's Committee, and officials concerned.
Speeches were made at the reception.
KCNA Slams U.S. for Increasing Military Tension in Korea
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is going to launch Foal Eagle joint military exercises and Reception, staging, onward movement and integration (RSOI) in south Korea, defying the demand of the Korean people and the international community for a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. and a settlement of the nuclear crisis on the Korean peninsula.
According to a press report, the U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk entered Pusan Port, south Korea, on March 15 with about 70 fighters and 5,500 combatants aboard to participate in an exercise aimed to launch a nuclear war against the north.
A large-scale exercise of loading and unloading war supplies has been under way at Phyongthaek Port, Kyonggi Province, since March 8 with hundreds of military vehicles, tanks and amphibious armored cars belonging to a flotilla of U.S. marines. The drill participated in by at least 8,000 GIs of U.S. marines from Hawaii and Okinawa will reportedly last until April.
On March 12 the command of the 8th U.S. Army announced a plan to pay an allowance to the U.S. soldiers in south Korea as an incentive to lengthen the term of their service there.
Such serious military moves of the U.S. forces in south Korea suggest that the day of the outbreak of a war is drawing near hour by hour in Korea.
The U.S. has already staged various forms of war maneuvers one after another according to the war scenario based on the doctrine of "a preemptive attack" after shipping into south Korea the latest war hardware tested in the Afghan and Iraqi war. Recently, it conducted even a drill of evacuating families of U.S. servicemen and other Americans, something reminiscent of the eve of the last Korean war.
It has been a usual practice for the U.S. to cite "threat to security" and "defense" as a pretext for kicking up a war racket but the recent developments have proved this is a sheer lie and the U.S. is chiefly to blame for the crisis.
The U.S. is hell-bent on the moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK politically, militarily and economically behind the curtain of dialogue for the settlement of the nuclear issue between them, working hard to plug Japan and its other allies.
It is keen to ignite a war against the DPRK, while working hard to bring back to the era of confrontation the inter-Korean relations favorably developing in the direction of national reconciliation, peace and reunification of the country after the publication of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.
The U.S. plans to stage large-scale war exercises through the massive transfer and deployment of its armed forces in its mainland and overseas and the mobilization of all the south Korean forces suggest what a dangerous political and military adventure it is going to make on the Korean peninsula.
KCNA Blasts Japanese Chief Executive's Reckless Remarks
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The Japanese chief executive at an official meeting on March 15 reiterated his plan to continue his visit to the "Yasukuni Shrine."
It was already known that at the meetings of the budgetary committees of the House of Representatives and the House of Councilors of Japan held on February 10 and March 9 he let loose a string of provocative remarks that "he had no will to change his view no matter what other countries might say" and "it was quite natural for a Japanese to visit the shrine" only to spark public criticism.
The Japanese reactionary ruling quarters' official visits to the shrine and such remarks intended to justify and institutionalize them indicate that they have become evermore undisguised in their moves to make a trend towards the Right prevail in the Japanese society and instill the idea of militarism into the Japanese people in a bid to lay an ideological foundation for overseas aggression.
This is an intolerable insult and mockery of the victims of the barbarous massacre and savage plunder perpetrated by the Japanese imperialists in the last century, their bereaved families and the Asian people and an open challenge to the just judgment meted out by history to the chief criminals in the war of aggression in the 20th century.
The shrine is a symbol of militarism as it is the place where top class war criminals who directly organized and ordered the start of the wars of aggression, massacre and unprecedented plunder are entombed. Therefore, visits of Japanese politicians to the shrine have been censured as grave criminal moves to revive militarism and lashed all Asian countries into fury.
The Japanese politicians who have so far asserted the visit to the shrine and gone there are without an exception the right-wing conservatives who have encouraged the revival of militarism and spearheaded it.
The chief executive of Japan has linked visits to the shrine to the "tradition and religion of Japan." But this is not an issue related to the tradition and religion. This is rather a matter related to the Japanese authorities' political tendency and their attitude toward history.
Bowing to the memorial tablets of war criminals and praying for their soul can not be construed otherwise than a rash act to push ahead with the militarization in a bid to realize the old dream of the "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere" which they failed to do in the past.
That was why whenever the chief executives of Japan paid official visits to the shrine in the past they touched off so strong public criticism at home and abroad and spawned serious political and diplomatic problems.
The present chief executive of Japan can never evade the responsibility for all the consequences to be entailed by his repeated visit to the shrine and his remarks justifying it.
U.S. Urged to Stop Maneuvers
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- Foal Eagle and the reception, staging, onward movement and integration, the joint war exercises the U.S. forces and the south Korean army are about to begin on March 22, clearly show what the ulterior intention of the U.S. is, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary.
The news analyst says:
The U.S. often talks about "dialogue" and "peaceful settlement" of the nuclear issue, but it seeks to stage a test war reminiscent of a full-scale war aimed to invade the DPRK by force and launch an all-out war on the Korean peninsula so as to exterminate the Korean nation.
The DPRK that is making all sincere efforts for the preservation of peace on the Korean peninsula and the settlement of the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. showed maximum magnanimity at the recent six-way talks by advancing fair and flexible proposals.
However, the U.S. has escalated military rackets against the DPRK in a phased way behind the scene of dialogue while persistently pursuing its hostile policy toward the DPRK.
If the six-way talks are to be continued, an atmosphere favorable for them should be created before anything else.
If the U.S. seeks to solve the nuclear issue between the DPRK and the U.S. by a physical way in its unilateral strategic interests, not by a peaceful way, the army and people of the DPRK will react to it with a strong military deterrent force.
The U.S. should not dare test the patience, will and strength of the DPRK.
The U.S. would be well advised to stop kicking up military rackets chilling the atmosphere of the talks and shadowing their prospect, if it truly wants the peaceful solution of the issue.
U.S. termed World's Biggest Gangster
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article brands the U.S. as an unprecedented gangster, the world's worst robber as it came into being with the disposition and nature as a gangster.
It says: The Korean peninsula has witnessed a vivid manifestation of the U.S. aggressive and brigandish nature. The last Korean war was the most typical brigandish war of aggression, state-sponsored terrorism perpetrated by the U.S. imperialists in the 20th century.
Since the ceasefire the U.S. imperialists have incessantly resorted to the reckless military threat and blackmail against the DPRK and moves to start a new war against it, persistently raising a hue and cry over "threat" from somebody.
The U.S. brigandish nature finds a clear expression in the fact that it has persistently pursued sanctions and blockade and interference in others' internal affairs to strangle those countries aspiring after independence, socialism and progress. It is evidenced by the recent renewed passage of a bill on sanctions against Syria through U.S. Congress.
The U.S. brigandish nature can be also proved by the fact that it is meddling in the internal affairs of other countries, assessing the "human rights situation" there with "human rights standards" of its own style and pulling them up over that issue as it pleases.
The U.S. unilateral acts, defiant of even international law, only bring to light its true colours as an international gangster.
It is due to the U.S. brigandish acts that the international arena witnesses the abnormal and complicated situation where justice and progress are trampled underfoot and peace and stability disturbed.
Progressive humankind should clearly see through the aggressive and brigandish nature of the U.S. and struggle against it.
Increased Defence Capability Called for
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The U.S. war of aggression against Iraq and the subsequent development afford a serious lesson to the people aspiring after independence and peace.
Minju Joson today says this in a signed commentary carried one year after the U.S. start of military invasion against Iraq.
The commentary continues:
The Iraqi war was an inevitable product of the U.S. imperialists' aggressive nature and mode of existence peculiar to them.
It has already been well known to the world that the United States selected Iraq as its target of invasion long ago.
The U.S. has left no means untried to bring Iraq under its control after singling it out as a stronghold of strategic importance for realizing its strategy of world domination as it is located in the region very favorable to it not only from the military and strategic point of view but from the economic and geographical viewpoint.
The Iraqi war clearly proved that the UN Charter and international laws can not play any role in deterring the arbitrary and high-handed practices of the U.S.
Powerful defence capability of one's own is only the best deterrence to check the invasion and war moves openly committed by the U.S. in different parts of the world.
It is the physiology of the U.S. to become coward before the strong and ferocious before the weak.
Only when a country reacts to the U.S. imperialists' ceaseless moves for aggression and war with strong defence capability, can it protect its sovereignty and, furthermore, defend global peace and security, it concludes.
DPRK, First Tax-free Country
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- March 21 is the 30th anniversary of the promulgation of the law on abolishing the tax system for good and all in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Since the law was put into effect, the DPRK has become the first tax-free country in the world.
The Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government, regarding it as the supreme principle of their activities to promote the well-being of the people, have always paid deep attention to making all the working people be evenly well off and improving their living conditions.
Though the country's economic conditions were difficult after the war, the government took various measures to systematically reduce the people's tax burden.
In Juche 44(1955) the income tax of workers and office employees and the tax burden of handicraftsmen, entrepreneurs and businessmen were reduced considerably, and the agricultural tax-in-kind went down to 20.1 percent on an average.
Later, even the dramatically reduced agricultural tax-in-kind and income tax of workers and office employees were totally eliminated.
With the historic law "On Abolishing the Tax System" adopted at the 3rd Session of the 5th Supreme People's Assembly in 1974, the tax system, which had existed for thousands of years, was finally liquidated and the people's long-cherished desire was realized satisfactorily.
National Symposium on Koryo Medical Science Held
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- A national symposium on Koryo medical science was held at the Grand People's Study House on March 17 and 18 to mark the 25th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's famous work "On Developing Traditional Korean Medicine".
Prof. and Dr. Choe Chang Sik, vice-minister of Public Health, said at the symposium that the work serves as guidelines indicating a bright way of developing Koryo medical science.
Presented there were several theses that referred to the successes made in the efforts to carry out the tasks set forth in the work.
Then followed panel discussions.
38 papers on the research into scientific diagnosis and effective methods of treatment of diabetes, advanced stomach cancer, imperforated thrombotic vascular inflammation were appreciated at the panel of internal treatment and surgery in the field of traditional Koryo medicine, at least 30 papers on the acupuncture treatment of eye-proptosis caused by hyperthyroid and polyneuritis at the panel of acupuncture and more than 30 papers on the successes made in newly clarifying ingredients and medicinal effect of Koryo medicine at the panel of essential drugs and Koryo medicine.
Truth about Crimes Related to Additional Troop Dispatch to Iraq Disclosed
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- The Information Department of the Central Committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea on March 12 issued a white paper disclosing before the whole world the truth about the crimes related to the additional troop dispatch to Iraq despite the unanimous opposition of the people from all walks of life.
According to the white paper, the additional troop dispatch to Iraq is a crime committed by the U.S. in a premeditated manner to meet its national interests at the sacrifice of south Korea.
The U.S. singled out south Korea, its colony, as the first target of its operation to recruit mercenaries needed for undertaking its war of aggression.
The U.S. set media in motion in a bid to realize the additional dispatch of troops to Iraq. It created an atmosphere of pressure and dispatched war hawks to south Korea to put repeated pressure on it.
The U.S. coercive demand for troop dispatch clearly reminds one of the second order for troop dispatch to Vietnam and means a forcible requisition order to drive south Korean troops as a shock brigade and mercenaries in its efforts to realize its ambition to build a uni-polar world dominated by it.
The additional troop dispatch is a product of the pro-U.S. treacherous acts of the "Grand National Party" that took the lead in the U.S. moves for troop dispatch.
The ultra-right conservative forces acted more rashly when the prospect of additional troop dispatch was becoming gloomier owing to the protest of the people resolutely defying the U.S. pressure and the submissive acts of the pro-U.S. sycophantic elements.
The GNP's pro-U.S. sycophantic treacherous forces became more desperate in their moves to put into practice the additional troop dispatch at a time when it was censured by the international community and its allies, too, rejected its demand for troop dispatch to Iraq after the disclosure of the fact that the U.S. invaded Iraq on the basis of false information.
The conservative press is fanning up an atmosphere for troop dispatch, spreading a rumor that the number of soldiers wanting to be dispatched to Iraq is increasing.
The additional troop dispatch to Iraq fully revealed before the international community the ugly colors of south Korea as a complete colony of the U.S. and its war servant.
When the U.S. began to force south Korea to additionally dispatch troops in September last year, the people of all social standings kindled a torch of the all-people struggle against the troop dispatch.
Their struggle against the troop dispatch mounted higher, occasioned by Rumsfeld's visit to south Korea aimed to put pressure on it to additionally dispatch troops to Iraq.
When the pro-U.S. right-wing conservatives passed the "motion on additional troop dispatch to Iraq" through the "National Assembly" in spite of such opposition and protest of the people, they turned out in a massive struggle with bitterer resentment.
The massive struggle against the additional troop dispatch to Iraq is an eruption of the people's will to defend their interests and not to repeat the tragic destiny at the time of the Vietnamese war.
The attack of the anti-U.S. resistance forces on the U.S. troops and the troops of its allies has been further intensified in Iraq since Bush declared the end of the Iraqi war and this resulted in killing 772 GIs and wounding 1,048 others in December last year alone.
A miserable lot is awaiting the south Korean troops to be dispatched to Iraq as was the case with those who were dispatched to Vietnam. The troop dispatch to Vietnam left at least 5,000 persons dead and over 16,000 wounded. Many soldiers died of the aftermath of the defoliant spread by the U.S. after their return home and more than 50,000 victims of its aftermath are dying.
The U.S. is chiefly to blame for the additional troop dispatch to Iraq.
The people from all walks of life should wage a more dynamic anti-U.S., anti-war struggle to get the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces withdrawn from south Korea to the last one.
All the people should judge the 16th "National Assembly" which decided on the additional troops dispatch to Iraq and totally eliminate the chief culprits of the troop dispatch from the political arena by completely burying all the pro-U.S. treacherous forces of the "Grand National Party" in the coming "general election".
Greetings to President of Tunisia
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, sent a message of greetings to Zine el Abidine Ben Ali, president of the Republic of Tunisia, on Mar. 19 on the occasion of the 48th national day.
Expressing belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would more favorably develop in the future, the message sincerely wished him and the people of Tunisia greater success in their work to build a new prosperous society.
DPRK's Self-Defensive Deterrent Force Enough to Counter Any U.S. Preemptive N- Attack
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement
Friday denouncing the "reception, staging, onward movement and integration" (RSOI) and Foal Eagle joint military exercises the U.S. and the south Korean war hawks are going to stage from March 22.
It says:
The DPRK has a self-defensive deterrent force powerful enough to cope with any U.S. preemptive nuclear attack and wipe out aggressors to the last man.
The U.S. "policy of strength" is sure to prove ineffective in face of the great Songun politics and the deterrent force based on it and the provocateurs are bound to meet the fate of forlorn wandering spirit.
The committee vehemently denounces the projected joint military exercises of the U.S. and its followers as an intolerable military provocation against the DPRK and an outright challenge to the desire and wish of all the Koreans and world peace-loving people for detente and peace on the Korean peninsula.
No sooner had the second round of the six-way talks on the nuclear issue come to an end than the U.S. declared its plan to stage large-scale war maneuvers against its dialogue partner. This clearly shows that it seeks to invade the DPRK by force, while paying lip-service to "dialogue" and "peace."
It is nobody's secret that the U.S. has massively shipped into south Korea ultra-modern military hardware tested in the Afghan and Iraqi wars, after rounding off "new operation plan 5026" for the invasion of the DPRK, and recently conducted even an exercise of evacuating families of U.S. servicemen in south Korea.
The U.S. and south Korean bellicose forces are bringing the dark clouds of a nuclear war to hang over the Korean peninsula. This compels the army and the people of the DPRK to keep a high degree of vigilance against these moves. They are firmly determined to mete out a merciless punishment to the aggressors.
The U.S. should immediately halt its reckless moves to provoke a war against the DPRK, clearly understanding that strength is not all-cure and the Korean peninsula is neither Iraq nor Afghanistan.
U.S. Urged to Ponder over Unpredictable Consequences to Be Entailed by Its Provocations
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) --The United States should ponder over the unpredictable consequences to be entailed by its provocative acts. Its threat to the supreme security of the DPRK would compel it to take strong measures for just self-defence. A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea stated this in a statement issued to the press on March 19 denouncing the United States for planning to stage together with the south Korean bellicose forces large-scale Foal Eagle joint military exercise and the reception, staging, onward movement and integration (RSOI) across south Korea from March 22 to 28.
The statement branded these joint military exercises as an undisguised challenge and betrayal of the sincere efforts made by the international community and those countries concerned for a negotiated peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue.
Whenever an opportunity presented itself, the U.S. high-ranking officials made oft-repeated remarks to deceive the world public, talking about "a peaceful settlement of the nuclear issue" and "no attack on north Korea", it said, and went on:
The true aim sought by the U.S. is not to preserve peace on the Korean peninsula but to stifle the DPRK by force. It does not seek a negotiated settlement of the issue but tries to meet its ulterior aim while wasting time behind the scene of "dialogue." The U.S. egative stand toward the recent round of the six-way talks in Beijing disappointed people and raised many questions at home and abroad. The U.S. answered these questions by declaring its plan to stage the joint military exercises and thus fully disclosed its stand on the six-way talks before the world.
It is clear to everyone that it is impossible to sit face to face with a party carrying a dagger in its belt and have productive talks with it in good faith for the solution of the issue.
The DPRK is always keeping itself highly vigilant against the U.S. negative approach towards negotiations and its hostile acts.
The increased military threat the U.S. poses to the DPRK, whiling away time with lip-service to "dialogue", will only compel it to increase its nuclear deterrent force both in quality and quantity as a corresponding measure.
No one can take issue with this measure for self-defense.
