Kim Il Sung Praised

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- The Political Bureau of the Socialist Unionist Party of Syria issued a statement on Mar. 21 on the occasion of the Day of the Sun. Noting that the Korean people will soon commemorate the Day of the Sun, the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung, the statement said:
    Kim Il Sung liberated Korea and turned the DPRK into a powerful socialist industrial state. He also supported and encouraged the just cause of the world oppressed people including the Arab people both materially and morally. That is why he always lives in the hearts of humankind as the sun of the 20th century.
    The Syrian people who regard the Day of the Sun as their holiday extend warmest congratulations to the fraternal Korean people.
    Today the friends of the DPRK around the world deeply respect Kim Jong Il, the great leader of the Korean people, as the sun of the 21st century as he has courageously led the cause of building a great prosperous powerful nation with the might of Songun despite the vicious attack and threat of the U.S.
    The statement called on the international community to positively support and encourage the Korean people in their struggle to reunify the country.

Reception Given at DPRK Consulate General in Nahodka

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Consulate General in Nahodka, Russia, arranged a reception on Mar. 25 on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the signing of the agreement on the economic and cultural cooperation between the DPRK and Russia. Present on invitation were a delegate of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Vladivostok, officials of the administrations of Maritime Territory and Vladivostok City and other officials concerned.
    Officials of the DPRK Consulate General were on hand.
    Speeches were made there.

Iranian President on Independent Policy of DPRK

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- Iran highly appreciates the principled and independent policy maintained by the DPRK. Iranian President Seyed Mohammad Khatami said this when he received new DPRK Ambassador E.P. to Iran Kim Chang Ryong on Mar. 25. Noting that the relations between the two countries have favorably developed since the victory of the Islamic revolution, he said that the Iranian people would never forget the government and people of the DPRK for the invariable support and encouragement extended by them to the cause of the Iranian people.
    He went on:
    The United States is putting pressure upon Iran, the DPRK and other independent states in a bid to create the atmosphere of increasing pressure under this or that pretext.
    Iran is determined to maintain the independent stand and defend independence and will hold fast to its principled stand.
    The two countries hope to lead an independent and free life and struggle for regional peace and security.
    We will fight against any foreign forces that try to impose aggression and war upon us.
    We support and appreciate the measures of the DPRK government to achieve the peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula and ensure peace and security of the region.
    We set store by the relations with the DPRK and will always stand by the Korean people.

U.S. - S. Korean Joint Military Drills under Fire

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- The World Federation of Trade Unions and the All-India Agricultural Workers' Union separately made public statements on Mar. 25 denouncing the large-scale joint military exercise of the U.S. and the south Korean bellicose forces. The World Federation of Trade Unions in the statement expressed great concern over the Foal Eagle joint military drill launched by the U.S. together with the south Korean warlike forces in all parts of south Korea. The statement termed it a great threat to the security of the DPRK and part of the dangerous moves to escalate the tensions on the Korean peninsula.
    Noting that such maneuver of the U.S. would only lay an obstacle to the peaceful solution of the nuclear issue, the statement said that it is unjustifiable for the U.S. administration to stage the military exercise in a bid to threaten the DPRK while paying lip-service to "dialogue."
    The World Federation of Trade Unions strongly demands the U.S. administration discontinue the U.S.-south Korea joint military exercise, stop escalating the tension in the region and come out for a purposeful dialogue, it added The All-India Agricultural Workers' Union in the statement accused the U.S. of ceaselessly shipping the latest combat equipment into south Korea and staging the Foal Eagle joint military exercise in all parts of south Korea.
    The U.S. should know that such move will only bring the same shame and disgrace to it as it suffered during the Korean war in the 1950s, it said, and went on:
    The All-India Agricultural Workers' Union bitterly denounces the Foal Eagle of the U.S. and expresses firm support to the Workers' Party of Korea, the government and people of the DPRK in their struggle to drive the U.S. troops out of south Korea and achieve the reunification of the country.

Withdrawal of Penalty Demanded for Korean Social Scientist in Germany Demanded

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- The Federation of Koreans in Australia issued a statement on Mar. 23 denouncing the south Korean authorities for demanding penalty for Prof. Song Tu Ryul, a Korean social scientist in Germany. Accusing the south Korean authorities of proposing 15 years in prison for Song after investigating and persecuting him for several months on the charge of being "pro-north" though he went to south Korea at the invitation of the Society for Commemorating the Movement for Democracy, the statement said: When the south Korean authorities announced their measure to unconditionally allow overseas Korean democrats to enter south Korea last year we were skeptical about it as such evil law as the Security Law remains in force.
    The reality proved that the permission is nothing but a discrimination policy to be enforced on the basis of double standards for the overseas Korean democrats.
    The north and the south of Korea adopted the June 15 joint declaration and vowed to strive to achieve the peaceful reunification.
    If the south Korean authorities keep invoking the Security Law in spite of this, efforts for national reconciliation and reunification will remain an armchair argument.
    We denounce the penalty proposed for Song at a historic time the Koreans should work to achieve reunification through national cooperation as early as possible as an anti-democracy, anti-reunification action. We demand the south Korean authorities immediately release him and ensure a free travel of all the democrats.
    At the same time we demand the authorities abolish the SL, main obstacle to democracy and reunification, and encourage national cooperation.
    The Federation of Koreans in Australia calls upon all the compatriots at home and abroad to turn out in a dynamic patriotic movement for national cooperation and independent reunification under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration, a milestone for reunification.

U.S. Logic of Evil Flayed

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- Heavyweights of the U.S. administration came out to justify their assertion that north Korea must scrap its nuclear program first and their logic of an "axis of evil". In a nutshell, their assertions mean that all their demands are right and whatever the DPRK does is wrong and, therefore, there can never be any compromise or reward to the DPRK. Their assertions are little short of forcing the DPRK to completely dismantle its nuclear program first and remain calm barehanded. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed commentary.
    Dismissing it as a trick of American empire style reminding one of the nature and temperament peculiar to a wolf and fox, the news analyst goes on:
    As far as the theory of the "axis of evil" set out by Bush is concerned, it is sheer nonsense as it made profound confusing of justice and injustice and good and evil. However, the U.S. ruling quarters took pains to defend this. This can not but be a challenge to history, an insult to justice, truth and conscience and a vicious provocation to the DPRK.
    The same holds true for their brigandish demand that the DPRK dismantle its nuclear program first.
    Consistent is the DPRK's principled stand on the nuclear issue and it is quite just. The formula of "action for action" and "reward in return for freeze" proposed by the DPRK is the most effective and best way for the settlement of the nuclear issue. The DPRK exerted flexible and sincere efforts for the solution of the nuclear issue on the basis of this formula at the recent six-way talks.
    It is set to maintain this formula in the future, too.
    The DPRK and the U.S. are on an equal footing as far as the settlement of the nuclear issue is concerned. The DPRK is not obliged to move first and the U.S. has no right to demand the former do so. In the light of the root cause of the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula and the background against which it surfaced and the responsibility for solving the issue, it is the U.S. which should move first as it is chiefly accountable for it. However, it is demanding the DPRK scrap its nuclear program first, shifting the blame onto it.
    This is an American style bullying peculiar to the U.S. styling itself the world's super power.
    The U.S. should clearly understand the principled stand of the DPRK and stop insisting on its brigandish demand based on its contradictory and unrealistic assertion.

KCNA Assails U.S. Frantic Moves for Development of New Type Nukes

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- The United States reportedly worked out a five-year expenditure plan for the development of nuclear weapons including smaller tactical nukes and decided to increase the budget for the fiscal 2009 to 7.5 billion dollars. The U.S. Department of Energy has already asked for the allocation of 6.6 billion dollars, 400 million dollars more than the present fiscal year, for the development of nuclear weapons in the budget for the fiscal 2005.
    This plan is aimed to financially guarantee the U.S. moves to resume its nuclear test and develop nukes for the destruction of underground structures. The U.S. Congress has already approved the spending of 15 million dollars to intensify the research into nukes capable of deeply penetrating into underground facilities.
    It is well known that the Bush administration lifted the more than decade-old ban on the research into nukes and has pushed forward its moves to develop smaller nukes as evidenced by the organization of teams for ultra-modern warheads tasked to develop new type nuclear warheads and improved version of warheads at three nuclear research groups.
    The U.S. policy of developing nuclear weapons which fully reflects its ambition for world supremacy is a wanton violation and a challenge to the NPT.
    The U.S. moves for the development of nuclear weapons to monopolize nuclear weapons and increase nuclear capacity have been escalated since the emergence of the Bush administration.
    The report on the nuclear posture submitted by the U.S. Department of Defense in January 2002 said the U.S. should have a tactical and "flexible" nuclear capacity to cope with any unforeseen incident and stressed the need to develop smaller nukes aimed to destroy underground facilities.
    The U.S. is stepping up its arms race and moves to make nuclear weapons ultra-modern and conventional, fully disclosing its true colors as the largest nuclear criminal in the world.
    The DPRK is made the main target of the present U.S. nuclear strategy. The U.S. is working hard to put pressure on the DPRK with nukes and mount a preemptive strike at its major underground military facilities, economic objects, organs, enterprises, etc. with smaller nukes anytime.
    These undisguised moves of the U.S. for the development of nuclear weapons compel the DPRK to channel greater efforts into increasing its defence capacity to cope with them.
    The U.S. escalated nuclear threat and blackmail would only prompt the DPRK to bolster its deferent force.

Centres for Education in Traditions of Korean Revolution

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- Centres for education in the revolutionary traditions including revolutionary battle sites and historic places have been splendidly spruced up in the DPRK. The Monument to the Victorious Battle of Musan Area with a statue of President Kim Il Sung standing high was successfully erected on the table land of Taehongdan in the area of Mt. Paektu to be a grand monumental edifice of eternal value.
    Amid the great expectation and concern of the people across the country the members of the volunteer teams of Party information workers from across the country built the Paektu Museum, constructed stone steps from the peak of Mt. Paektu down to the shore of Lake Chon and built many public buildings and modern dwelling houses and power stations in Samjiyon township, Mubong, Rimyongsu, Phothae and other areas. As a result, the area of Mt. Paektu took on a new appearance as a holy land of revolution.
    More materials and relics related to the history of the revolution have been added to the Korean Revolution Museum in recent years.
    The Rangrim revolutionary site was restored to its original state on the principle of historicism and scientific nature and there appeared Yonsa, Migok and Rajin revolutionary museums.
    Monuments to the revolutionary activities and field guidance of the peerlessly great persons Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il and Kim Jong Suk were erected in every place associated with their immortal revolutionary history including Kim Chol Ju Artillery General Military Academy, the Pyongyang Textile Mill, the Maram Assorted Feed Factory and the Naedong Co-op Farm in Kangryong County.
    Camps and roads have been rebuilt and modernized for the visitors to the revolutionary battle sites and historic places. Last year alone at least 246,000 people from all walks of life, servicepersons and school youth and children visited the native home in the secret camp of Mt. Paektu. And other revolutionary battle sites and historic places also attracted an endless crowd of visitors.

U.S. War Moves Threatening Humankind's Existence

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists, who are obsessed by world supremacy, are pushing ahead with preparations for a genetic and biological warfare in real earnest to exterminate other nations. It was exposed some time ago by Hatman, a famous writer and journalist of the United States.
    According to him, the U.S. administration has worked out a plan for the "new century" while fundamentally reorganizing the U.S. forces so that the Anglo-Saxon race may exterminate other races and dominate the world through unconventional wars under the name of "military revolution" based on the up-to-date science and has hastened preparations for genetic and biological warfare in secret.
    As instructed by the U.S. administration, many nuclear centers have long been engaged in research into genetics of races and their destruction and the Department of Defence and other special institutions of the United States have deepened the study of "artificial selection of human beings" by "genetic bombs".
    This fact is enough to unveil the true colors of the U.S. imperialists as the most horrible human killers and wreckers of the world peace.

Many Schoolgirls Trained as Footballers

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- Schoolchildren have been trained successfully at sports schools across the country. Outstanding among them is Phyongchon District Sports School, Pyongyang, which is well known in the country as it has trained schoolgirls as promising footballers. It is less than ten years ago that the school started football training.
    The school has won the football event in national games of sports schools every year since Juche 88 (1999). In the years it has produced several juvenile aces.
    Hwang Song Mi, Jong Hye Yong, Kim Un Ju and several other girls who graduated from the school are now active at the Amnokgang Sports Group and the Pyongyang City Sports Group.
    The ability and strong sense of responsibility of the trainers are a main factor of the achievements made by the school.
    They have selected schoolgirls good in speed, strength and physical and mental state and train them on a scientific basis suitable for their individualities.
    Ri In Won, chief trainer, told KCNA that the school boasted of many girls admired even by masters of football and that it was his goal to produce world stars among them.

Tree Planting Brisk in DPRK

     Pyongyang, March 29 (KCNA) -- Spring tree planting is making brisk headway across the DPRK. Tens of millions of trees are being planted by working people and school youth and children in different parts of the country everyday through a dynamic drive. The Ministry of Land and Environment Preservation and different provinces, cities and counties are keeping the cultivation of saplings ahead of planting and conducting the tree planting as a mass movement under specific plans to turn the country into a thick woodland and greenery.
    In Pyongyang, a large number of acacias of pink flowers, gingko trees, Pyongyang poplar, maple trees, zelkova trees and other trees of good species were planted in revolutionary sites including Mangyongdae, parks and recreation grounds, streets and villages.
    Officials, working people and school youth and children in South Hwanghae Province, planted with ardent patriotism millions of saplings everyday to create more forests for firewood, chestnut forests, youth forests, forests of the children's union, etc.
    At least 2.7 million saplings are daily planted in mountains and fields in South Phyongan Province alone through a mass campaign.
    Industrial establishments, organs, schools and cooperative farms in cities and counties of North Hwanghae, Kangwon and South Hamgyong Provinces planted many trees in the mountains in their charge and tend them well.

Kim Jong Il inspecciona subunidad de la Unidad No. 979 del EPC

     Pyongyang, 29 de marzo (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il, Secretario General del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y Comandante Supremo del Ejercito Popular de Corea inspecciono una subunidad de la Unidad No.979, Vanguardia Kum Song del EPC. Ante todo, se entero del estado de cumplimiento del deber de la subunidad y vio ejercicios de los militares.
    Se mostro muy satisfecho de que todos los militares han crecido como valientes combatientes capaces de pelear a solas contra cien enemigos e indico las tareas programaticas que sirven de guia para fortalecer por todos los medios la combatividad de la unidad.
    Acto seguido, recorrio la sala de educacion, dormitorio, comedor, cocina, bano, deposito diario, lugar de descanso al aire libre y otras instalaciones de cultura, educacion e intendencia para prodigar esmerada atencion a la vida de los militares.
    Se mostro muy complacido de que la unidad realizo la electrificacion de alto nivel con la energia electrica generada por si mismo y ha acondicionado excelentemente las comodidades de cultura, educacion e intendencia para la vida de los militares.
    Y presencio una funcion artistica de los militares de una compania de la subunidad.
    Dio a los militares de la subunidad binoculos, ametralladora y fusil automatico y se fotografio junto a estos.
    El mismo dia, el Comandante Supremo recorrio la planta hidroelectrica construida por la Unidad No. 966 del EPC.
    Senalo que esta planta es una creacion de eterna duracion que a base del proyecto conforme al principio de dar el provecho real ha asegurado en nivel supremo la calidad de la construccion y se mostro muy regocijado de que los militares de la Unidad, dando pruebas de espiritu revolucionario de los militares, completaron por cuenta propia la gran obra de transformacion de la naturaleza.
    Ante las fotos que muestran los aspectos de heroica lucha de los constructores militares dijo que los militares del ejercito popular estan al frente de la sagrada lucha por la construccion de una gran potencia prospera y anadio que esto es el noble espiritu de lucha de amor a la Patria y el pueblo que puede manifestar solo el EPC, defensor de la Patria y el pueblo.
    Le acompanaron los generales de ejercito del EPC, Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae y Pak Jae Gyong, y el primer subjefe de departamento del CC del PTC, Ri Yong Chol.

Ninos escolares capitalinos felicitan a los reclutas

     Pyongyang, 29 de marzo (ATCC) -- Los ninos escolares de esta capital se reunieron en el Teatro al Aire Libre del Parque Juventud para felicitar a los soldados novatos que partiran hacia la primera linea de la defensa de la patria con una decision ardiente de vanguardia juvenil de la epoca del Songun (priorizacion militar) de frustrar las maquinaciones de provocacion de una nueva guerra de los imperialistas yanquis y de defender honrosamente la soberania de la patria. Participaron el presidente del Comite Popular de la ciudad de Pyongyang, Ryang Man Gil y otros funcionarios correspondientes.
    El primer secretario del Comite de la Union de la Juventud de la ciudad de Pyongyang, Kim Song Chol, hizo uso de la palabra y otras personas pronunciaron discursos de felicitacion.

    Se decidieron firmemente a apoyar con las armas la direccion del Dirigente Kim Jong Il sobre la revolucion mediante el Songun, frustrar despiadadamente las aviesas maquinaciones de guerra nuclear de los yanquis y defender a la patria socialista como una muralla de acero guardando en lo profundo del corazon la confianza y la esperanza del Partido.

Ejercicio de desembarco de tropas de EE.UU. y del Sur de Corea

     Pyongyang, 29 de marzo (ATCC) -- Segun la radio "KBS" del Sur de Corea, las tropas norteamericanas y el ejercito del Sur de Corea efectuaron el dia 26 un ejercicio conjunto de desembarco de gran envergadura en la zona de la comuna de Toksong de la ciudad de Phohang de la provincia de Kyongsang del Norte. Para ese efecto fueron movilizados mas de tres mil efectivos y equipos militares de la "Comandancia de las Fuerzas Aliadas" Sur de Corea-EE.UU., el cuerpo de marines y la aviacion de EE.UU, y el grupo de desembarco de la marina surcoreana.
    El presente ejercicio tiene por objetivo fortalecer el sistema operacional de cooperacion entre EE.UU. y el Sur de Corea y realizar en "tiempo de emergencia" el desembarco de sorpresa en la retaguardia del "enemigo" con apoyo de los canones navales y aviones.
    Es muy obvio que ese ejercicio, un eslabon del simulacro conjunto de gran envergadura que se desarrolla en toda la extension del Sur de Corea oliendo a polvora, es un entrenamiento militar para la agresion al Norte de Corea.
