Preparatory Committee Inaugurated in Russia

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- An inaugural ceremony of a preparatory committee of the Russian public was held in Moscow on March 23 to commemorate the Day of the Sun. A resolution was adopted at the ceremony. It highly praised President Kim Il Sung who, steering the Korean revolution, defeated the Japanese and U.S. imperialists and wisely led the Korean people's struggle to build a developed great powerful socialist country to a brilliant victory.
    The resolution introduced the members of the preparatory committee headed by Vladimir Tolstikov who is chairman of the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK. It said that the committee would organize colorful functions such as a meeting, seminar, photo exhibition and film show to commemorate the birth anniversary of Kim Il Sung.

Grand Chorus of Students in Pyongyang Held

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- The grand chorus of students in Pyongyang "Korea, I Will Glorify Thee" was held in front of the main building of Kim Il Sung University on Mar. 30. The performance began with prologue "Historic Mt. Ryongnam" and the famous song "Korea, I Will Glorify Thee."
    The audience was deeply moved by the wind-instrument music and chorus "We Will Follow Up the March that Started from Mt. Paektu," and mixed group singing and chorus "Song of the Movement for Reading 10,000 Pages" dealing with the immortal feats Kim Jong Il performed by helping the students grow up to be dependable intellectuals of the revolution for the rosy future of Kim Il Sung's Korea and leading them to study hard so as to demonstrate the might of the motherland with science and technology.
    Quintet poem "Songun Brilliant Commander of Mt. Paektu," wind-instrument music and chorus "Our General Is the Great Brilliant Commander of Songun " and other numbers clearly proved that Kim Jong Il is, indeed, the illustrious commander born of Mt. Paektu as he instilled the spirit of giving importance to the army and the spirit of prizing arms into the students as early as when he was conducting revolutionary activities at Kim Il Sung University.
    Also presented was the famous song "Dear General, Where Are You" in which the performers helped the audience renew their firm determination to successfully accomplish generation after generation the revolutionary cause of Juche under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il holding high the red flag of the revolution associated with the whole life of President Kim Il Sung.
    The performance ended with wind-instrument music and chorus "We Will Defend the Headquarters of Revolution at the Cost of Our Lives."

Functions Held Abroad

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- A lecture was given at the Lahore Branch of the Pakistan-Korea Friendship Association on March 20 on the occasion of the Day of the Sun. Mohammad Aslam Nagi, secretary general of the branch of the Pakistan-Korea Friendship Association, gave a lecture on the subject "Kim Il Sung, the everlasting august name".
    He said that the august name of President Kim Il Sung always shines with the Juche idea and the idea founded by him clearly indicates the way of national liberation, class liberation and human emancipation as it is the man-centered and people-centered theory, lucid philosophy of independence.
    He continued:
    The Juche idea which all people adhere to is now dynamically advancing the human cause of independence for its truth and scientific accuracy. The august name of Kim Il Sung remains shining more brilliantly thanks to leader Kim Jong Il. It is thanks to him that Kim Il Sung is immortal and the President's idea and cause have been steadily carried forward generation after generation.
    Round-table talks were held on March 22 on the subject "Immortal Flower Kimilsungia" under the sponsorship of the Kampala City Committee of the National Movement of Uganda.
    The participants talked about how Kimilsungia came to go by the august name of the President and referred to the fact that a Kimilsungia festival is held in Pyongyang every year on the occasion of the Day of the Sun to draw various countries.

Rally on Situation Held in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Solidarity reportedly sponsored a "rally on the situation to judge the corrupt conservative political forces in the April general election" at Myongdong Cathedral in Seoul on Mar. 27. Speeches were made and a resolution was read out there.
    The resolution branded the intensive military maneuvers staged under various codenames despite the political situation created in the wake of the passage of the "motion on impeachment against the president" through the National Assembly as the U.S. undisguised interference in the internal and political affairs of south Korea.
    It expressed the determination to join the people in the struggle to shatter the second and third coup attempts of the political coup forces centered on the Grand National Party and the U.S. plot to intervene in the political affairs of south Korea.
    At the end of the rally, its participants marched along the street.
    The security authorities deployed at least 300 riot policemen in the area around Myongdong Cathedral to crack down upon them.

Collection of Kim Il Sung's Works Published in Austria

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- A collection of works of President Kim Il Sung "The Three Charters for National Reunification" was published by the Joseph Gebauer Publishing House of Austria on Mar. 25. Its chief said he was glad that his publishing house brought out works of the President, a world recognized statesman, and wished the Korean people success in their struggle to reunify the country, true to the behests of the President.

Candlelight Actions against "Motion on Impeachment" in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- Candlelight rallies were reportedly held all at once in 35 regions of south Korea on March 27 in protest against the passage of "the motion on impeachment against the president" through the National Assembly. The People's Action for the Annulment of the 'Motion on Impeachment against the President' and Liquidation of Corrupt Politics (People's Action) sponsored a candlelight rally for the defence of democracy on the day of declaring the annulment of the motion and judging conservative corrupt politics in front of Kwanghwamun, Seoul.
    Participating in the rally were at least 80,000 members of civil and social organizations, citizens from all walks of life, youth and students.
    Prior to the candlelight rally, the People's Action called a press conference to make public its action program for days ahead.
    At the press conference the organization clarified that it would conclude the candlelight rally at Kwanghwamun and open a citizens' square demanding the annulment of the "motion" and defending democracy near Myongdong Cathedral to start a full-scale campaign for collecting ten million signatures from April 1.
    Meanwhile, a signature campaign for the annulment of the "motion" was conducted by students around the venue of the rally under the National Student Council for Solidarity.
    At least 200 members of youth organizations including the Fellowship Society of the National Council of Student Representatives and the south Korean Council of Youth Organizations held a rally for winning a democratic reform in the spirit of the June resistance at Myongdong Cathedral.
    A Pusanites' rally for the annulment of the "motion," the liquidation of corrupt politics and the defence of democracy took place in Pusan with at least 15,000 citizens attending as part of the candlelight campaign under the sponsorship of the People's Action.

Unreasonable Punishment against Chongryon Official Protested

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- The Tokyo District Court sentenced the former director of the Financial Department of the Central　Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) to a severe penalty on March 26. The court　detained and prosecuted him on the charge of "business embezzlement". A signed commentary of Rodong Sinmun today dismisses the verdict given by the Japanese judicial authorities as an illegal political　suppression and an inhumane act of trampling down upon the dignity and rights of the Koreans in Japan as it is a product of the　Japanese reactionaries' mean hostile policy toward the DPRK and Chongryon.
    The news analyst goes on:　
    As already known, the Japanese reactionaries fabricated the case of "business embezzlement" at a financial institution of Koreans　in Japan in the fall of 2001 and used it as a pretext for harsh crackdown upon Chongryon. At that time he was on his sickbed. But　the Japanese investigation authorities arrested and prosecuted him on the basis of a false document, their own making. Two and half　year-long public trials, however, proved he is not guilty. But the Tokyo District Court finally convicted him, away from the　principle of independence and impartiality of judicature. Lurking behind this is an ulterior aim to justify the Japanese　authorities' political suppression of Chongryon and undermine and destroy it at any cost.　
    He required medical treatment as his severe arthritis deteriorated his health. But the investigation authorities turned down the　application for bail made by the defence panel ten times under such absurd pretexts as "destruction of evidence" and "concern over　his escape." This is a mockery of and discrimination against the Korean nation and an intolerable persecution against Koreans in　Japan.
    The Japanese authorities should immediately stop the unreasonable suppression of Chongryon and infringement upon the rights of　Koreans in Japan, withdraw the unjustifiable judgment passed on the former director and set him free as demanded by the Korean　people.

Japanese Chief Executive's Nonsensical Talk under Fire

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- The Japanese chief executive, when referring to the joint moves of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the New Komeito Party to submit the "bill on banning portcalls of specified foreign vessels" to the Diet, let loose a string of nonsense that it was aimed to achieve a peaceful solution to the abduction and nuclear issues. He had the DPRK ships in mind when he was talking about specified foreign ships. Minju Joson today in a signed commentary dismisses his remarks as sheer nonsense.
    It goes on:
    Japan is set to solve the issue of the bilateral relations militarily, not peacefully.
    If Japan has any true political willingness to solve outstanding bilateral issues peacefully and improve relations with the DPRK, it should show interest only in discharging its responsibility and duty under the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration. It is an irrefutable hard fact that the DPRK-flagged ships including Mangyongbong-92 contributed to the friendship between the two countries and humanitarianism even in those times when the bilateral relations deteriorated.
    Japan's intention to ban the entry of DPRK ships into Japanese ports is aimed to apply economic sanctions against the DPRK, isolate and strangle it and bring down the socialist system there and thus attain its sinister political purpose.
    It is self-evident that the Japanese reactionaries' vicious hostile policy toward the DPRK would touch off bitter hatred for Japan among the people and army of the DPRK and create an unpredictably unstable situation in Northeast Asia.
    This notwithstanding, the Japanese reactionaries are escalating their hostile policy toward the DPRK and painting it as something for peace. This is designed to create an atmosphere in favor for realizing their militarist ambition for overseas aggression.

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Immortal Work Observed

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il set out the unique Songun idea on the basis of the Juche idea, indicating a clear path for the 21st century to follow. This is the outstanding ideological and theoretical feats performed by him on behalf of the times and the revolution. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article dedicated to the 22nd anniversary of the publication of his famous work "On the Juche Idea".
    The work, published on March 31, Juche 71 (1982), is an immortal monumental work in which the Juche idea, the core of President Kim Il Sung's revolutionary idea, was comprehensively systematized and serves as important guidelines as it put the cause of modeling the whole society on the Juche idea on a higher stage.
    Pointing out that the Songun idea is an idea which is based on the Juche idea and fully meets its requirements, the article goes on:
    The Songun idea calls for defending and realizing independence of the popular masses, relying on the might of a strong army. It is an idea of uninterrupted revolution as it calls for achieving the final victory of the revolution by the might of armed forces while attaching priority to the army. It is an idea of strengthening the driving force of the revolution and pushing forward the overall socialist construction with the People's Army as a pillar and main force of the revolution.
    The principle of placing the army ahead of the working class, the philosophy of arms, the idea on the driving force of the revolution and other original ideas and theories put forward by Kim Jong Il serve as the great idea and theory that give most perfect answers to all theoretical and practical issues arising in carrying out popular masses' cause of independence not only at present but in the future.
    The army and the people of the DPRK will as ever dynamically advance along the road of the uninterrupted revolution under the uplifted banner of the great Juche idea to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation in this land and successfully accomplish the cause of modeling the whole society on the Juche idea, the article concludes.

Great Guiding Idea in Era of Independence

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- March 31 is the 22nd anniversary of "On the Juche Idea", a famous work of leader Kim Jong Il. The immortal Juche idea founded by President Kim Il Sung has become the guiding idea in the era of independence.
    Kim Jong Il, in his work, formulates and systematizes in a comprehensive way the philosophical principle, socio-historical principle and guiding principle of the Juche idea to further develop and enrich it with new ideas and theories.
    As soon as it was published, the work evoked a great echo in the world for its great truth and vitality.
    It was translated into national languages and published in booklet in many countries; in a matter of one month following its publication, it was disseminated in more than 140 countries, and in one year magazines and newspapers of over 90 countries carried the full text and detailed gist of the work or serialized it.
    Brisk activities for studying the Juche idea have been conducted across the world.
    A Juche idea study group named after Kim Jong Il made its appearance in Mali in February Juche 74 (1985) for the first time. Since then, groups for studying and disseminating his ideas and theories have been formed one after another in many countries.
    More than 110 organizations for studying the Juche Idea including the Firenze Group for the Study of the Juche Idea in Italy were formed in many countries in the period from August 1994 to March 2003 alone.
    In 2000 alone, over 300 seminars on the immortal ideas, theories and exploits of Kim Jong Il were held in 40-odd countries. And continental, regional and national symposiums on the Juche idea have been held.
    His unique Idea of Songun politics has also been studied in many countries.

Japan Urged to Swim with International Trend of Redeeming Past Crimes

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- Japan should ponder over its destiny and future and swim with the trend of the changed times, urges Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary, referring to the international trend of settling the past. It goes on:
    Japan has evaded the liquidation of its past even after the publication of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.
    The chief executive of Japan in the declaration committed itself on behalf of the state to admit its past crimes and settle them.
    The Japanese government should, therefore, fulfill its commitment. Recently a list of at least 420,000 victims, part of those Koreans who were forcibly drafted to Japan during the Japanese imperialists' military occupation of Korea, was opened to the public, making it impossible for Japan to evade its responsibility for apologizing and compensating them and their bereaved families.
    Nevertheless, Japan is persistently faulting the DPRK, the victim, raising unrealistic and unreasonable issues including the "abduction issue" that has already been settled like a thief crying "Stop the thief!," far from compensating for its past crimes.
    This is only doubling and trebling the crimes committed by Japan against the Korean and other Asian people.
    The "Yasukuni Shrine" is a symbol of the Japanese imperialists' bloody history of aggression and, therefore, has become a target of the resentment, wrath and curse of the Asian people. Yet the ruling quarters of Japan are justifying their visits to the shrine and considering it as a due "obligation" and "duty" of Japanese politicians to visit it. It is impossible for such guys to show any interest in redressing Japan's past. This reveals the impudence and moral vulgarity peculiar to Japan.
    Such shameless attitude of Japan not to settle its past crimes is nothing but a revelation of its design to reinvade Korea. This hardens the Korean people's will to settle accounts with Japan to the last.

Korean Youth Called Upon to Rise Up in Anti-Japanese Resistance

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korean Student Committee issued a statement on March 31, 39 years after south Korean youth, students and people rose up in mass resistance against the traitorous south Korea-Japan agreement concluded under the backstage manipulation of the United States on March 31, 1965. He called upon all the youth and students in south Korea to wage more vigorous anti-U.S. and anti-Japanese resistance to foil the U.S. and the Japanese reactionaries' moves for domination, interference and aggression in the same spirit of national independence and the anti-Japanese patriotic spirit as was displayed by youngsters and people in all parts of south Korea 39 years ago.
    He continued:
    Scores of years have passed since the resistance. But the Japanese reactionaries' true aggressive design to cover up the crimes committed by Japan in the past and put the Korean peninsula under their control remains unchanged and this has reached a more reckless phase today. We can never remain a passive on-looker to this.
    The Japanese reactionaries should clearly understand the strong will and firm stand of our youth and students and all other people to struggle against Japan and immediately stop their reckless moves to escalate the confrontation with the DPRK and launch aggression against the Korean peninsula, pursuant to the U.S. policy.
    If Japan opts for reinvasion, obsessed by a foolish ambition to realize its old dream of the "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere", oblivious of its past lesson, the Korean youth and students will deal telling blows at its reactionaries, the sworn enemy of the Korean people, with arms that reflects the spirit of Mt. Paektu and their determination to take revenge upon them and thus give vent to the pent-up wrath of the Koreans against them.

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the north side led by An Kyong Ho, director of the Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, left here today to participate in an inter-Korean meeting for reunification to be held in Longjin, China, to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Pyongyang visit of Rev. Mun Ik Hwan whose nickname was Late Spring.

DPRK to Take Decisive Countermeasure for Self-Defence

     Pyongyang, March 31 (KCNA) -- The DPRK will increase its nuclear deterrent force in every way and take a decisive countermeasure for self-defence when necessary in order to avert a war and defend peace in the Korean peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia, declared a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK in an answer given to the question put by KCNA on Mar. 31 as regards the United States' decision to deploy Aegis destroyers in the East Sea of Korea to be combat-ready as part of the moves of the U.S. and Japan to jointly establish the missile defence system. The U.S. projected establishment of a naval missile interceptor system in the East Sea of Korea is the most outright hostile act against the DPRK as it is a system to wage a war against the DPRK and, furthermore, a part of its unchallenged attempt to dominate the Asia-Pacific region by rounding off the ring of military siege and containment against China and Russia, he noted and continued:
    Recently the U.S. announced that it would begin deploying the latest type Aegis destroyer of the U.S. Navy equipped with a missile interceptor system in the East Sea of Korea from September this year under the pretext of the DPRK's "ballistic missile threat" and wind up the establishment of the naval missile interceptor system by the end of 2005.
    Large-scale joint military exercises and the deployment of up-to-date war means for actual battles and other moves of the U.S. and Japan indicate that they are stepping up the preparations for the second Korean war in real earnest behind the scene of dialogue and this has already gone beyond the danger line.
    The U.S. is demanding the DPRK dismantle its nuclear deterrent force without any reward, while putting spurs to the production of new type nuclear weapons, deploying ultra-modern combat equipment in the area around the DPRK and increasing the military threat to it. This is a brigandish demand of an aggressor.
