     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il received a congratulatory message on April 1 from V. Putin, president of the Russian Federation, on the occasion of the 92nd birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung. The message says:
    I extend heartfelt congratulations to you and all the Korean people on the occasion of the national holiday, the 92nd birth anniversary of His Excellency Kim Il Sung, the founder of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
    Russia knows well about the feats performed by him in establishing and developing the relations of good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation between our two countries.
    I am convinced that these relations would in the future, too, grow stronger on the solid basis of the treaty signed on February 9, 2000.
    I wish you good health and new success in your activities for the wellbeing of the DPRK, stronger friendly Russia-DPRK relations and peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.

Belorussian Preparatory Committee Formed

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) --A Belorussian preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun was formed on April 2 with due ceremony in Minsk. The chairman and the vice-chairman of the committee were elected there.
    The committee decided to hold a rally, adopt a message of greetings to leader Kim Jong Il and have memorial articles carried in papers on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.

U.S. Military Exercises Condemned in Spain

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- The Spanish Association for Friendship with Korea in a statement on March 24 castigated the U.S. for staging undisguised war games against the north on the Korean peninsula under "new operation plan 5026". An independent decision of a country is not made under pressure, the statement said, and went on:
    The DPRK never imitates other countries. The more aggressive and arrogant the U.S. becomes, the tougher the measures taken by the DPRK.
    If Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il gives an order, the Korean People's Army will rise up as one and destroy the aggressors. The United States and south Korean bellicose forces should immediately stop their reckless military exercises against the DPRK.

Joint Seminar on Juche Idea Held in Pakistan

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- A joint seminar on the Juche idea was held in Lahore, Pakistan, on March 26. The chairman of the Lahore Committee for the Study of Kimilsungism in his speech said: What holds the most brilliant place in the immortal feats performed by President Kim Il Sung is that he founded the immortal Juche idea and showed to the world people the way to independence.
    Explaining the philosophical principle and system and the guiding principle of the Juche idea, he said: The Juche idea led the nations and peoples subjected to oppression and distress in the past century to defend their sovereignty and shape their destiny independently and creatively.
    The president of the Pakistan Trade Union Federation in his speech said Kim Il Sung set out Juche-oriented strategy and tactics in each period and at each stage of the developing revolution and led the revolution and construction to a victory. Today the DPRK is displaying its sovereignty and dignity to the world as it has fully applied the Juche idea to all spheres, political, military, economic, and cultural, he added.

Day of Sun Commemorated Abroad

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- Functions were held in various countries on April 1 on the occasion of the Day of the Sun. The secretary general of the International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea, addressing a meeting held in Vanyo, France, said that Kim Il Sung always lives in the hearts of all the Korean people and the world people as the eternal sun of the Korean nation and the eternal president of the DPRK. He expressed full support and solidarity with the Korean people in their just struggle to achieve the independent reunification of the country.
    The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kirgyzstan in a lecture said that the DPRK is drawing attention of the world public as a fortress of independence, a bulwark of socialism undeterred by any blatant challenge and the moves of the imperialists to provoke a war.
    In the last decade the DPRK has grown to be a powerful bulwark of socialism thanks to the original Songun politics of leader Kim Jong Il and has wrought such a miracle of history as making a breakthrough in building a great prosperous powerful nation, he said, stressing: It was Kim Il Sung who provided strong roots of the original political mode called Songun. A congratulatory message to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting in France.
    Meanwhile, the Association of Koreans in Germany for Cooperation held a function in Berlin on March 25 to celebrate the 11th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.
    Its attendants heard a lecture titled "The Respected General's Songun Politics and Its Vitality" and watched the Korean film "The Brilliant History of the Great Leadership."

Memorial Meeting of Foreign Crewmen Held

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- A memorial meeting of foreign crewmen was held at Hungnam Port on the east coast of Korea on April 7 on the occasion of the Day of the Sun. At the meeting speakers said that President Kim Il Sung, the father of socialist Korea and the benevolent father of the Korean people, always found himself among the people and took paternal care of them, taking it as his maxim to believe in the people as in Heaven. His whole life is recorded with the history of boundless devotion to the Korean revolution and the world revolution, they noted.
    His revolutionary cause is being brilliantly carried forward and accomplished by leader Kim Jong Il, they said, adding: His Songun politics has made the Korean people the most powerful and dignified people.
    They extended firm support and solidarity to the Korean people in their dynamic struggle for justice.
    A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.
    Present there were captains and crewmen of the Cambodian-flagged ship Shun Tong and the Chinese-flagged ships Liao Da Zhong Yu 0187 and Lu Wen Shui 8.

7th Kimilsungia Show of Ministry of People's Security Opens

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- The 7th Kimilsungia Show of the Ministry of People's Security was opened on the occasion of the Day of the Sun. Displayed in the show are at least 250 Kimilsungias in full bloom representing the boundless reverence of the people's security officers and men and servicepersons of the Korean People's Security Forces for President Kim Il Sung.
    An opening ceremony took place on April 7.
    At the ceremony a speaker said that every flower on display reflects the determination of the people's security officers and men and servicepersons of the Korean People's Security Forces to uphold with loyalty the idea and cause of Kim Il Sung and bring about the greatest prosperity of the country under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    He underscored the need for all of them to more firmly prepare themselves as true soldiers devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution headed by Kim Jong Il and staunchly fight for the security of the socialist homeland of Juche and the people so as to implement the behests of the President.

Kim Jong Il Sends Wreath to Bier of Kim Jong Ho

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il on April 7 sent a wreath to the bier of Kim Jong Ho, secretary of the Primary Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea of the State Bureau for the Assessment of Prices who is winner of "Kim Il Sung Order," expressing deep condolences over his death.

Congratulatory Message to Kim Jong Il from Cambodian King

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il received a congratulatory message on April 2 from Norodom Sihanouk, king of Cambodia, on the occasion of the Day of the Sun. In the message the King pays deepest respect to President Kim Il Sung on the most auspicious Day of the Sun this year on behalf of the Cambodian people and the parliament, the government of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Cambodian royal family and on his own behalf.
    The message says Kim Il Sung united the brave Korean people with the brilliant Juche philosophy as the core to achieve a miraculous overall development in the building of the state, and, while leading this gigantic undertaking of construction at the head, stood firm on the side of all the people aspiring after liberation, independence and non-alignment and set a unique example of positive solidarity and friendship among all the nations and peoples who loved peace, freedom and justice.

Foreign Art Troupes, Delegations and Marathoners Here

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- An art troupe of Koreans in Australia, an art troupe of the Japan-Korea Musical and Artistic Interchange Society, and a cultural delegation of Yanji, China, arrived here Wednesday to participate in the 22nd April Spring Friendship Art Festival. Marathoners of South Africa, Norway, Ethiopia, Botswana, China, Kenya and Poland arrived here on April 6 and 7 to take part in the 17th International Marathon Race for Mangyongdae Cup scheduled on the occasion of the Day of the Sun.

Reception Given by Palestinian Ambassador

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- Shaher Mohammed Abdlah, Palestinian ambassador to the DPRK, hosted a reception at the embassy Wednesday on the occasion of the Day of the Sun and the 11th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Addressing the reception the ambassador said he was pleased to commemorate the Day of the Sun, the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung, and celebrate the 11th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK together with the Korean people.
    He stated that the Palestinian people extend full support and encouragement to the Korean people in their struggle to get the U.S. troops withdrawn from south Korea and settle the nuclear issue in a peaceful way.
    The militant and comradely friendly relations between Palestine and the DPRK provided by President Yasser Arafat and Kim Il Sung are growing stronger under the care of Kim Jong Il, he said, hoping that the Korean people would achieve the reunification, progress and prosperity of the country, overcoming all difficulties, under his wise and tested leadership.
    Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, in his speech said Kim Il Sung whom the Korean people acclaimed for the first time in the history spanning five thousand years is the eternal sun of humankind who glorified the 20th century as the era of independence.

30th Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Marked

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the Grand People's Study House on April 7 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's famous work "On Further Developing Public Health". Kim Su Hak, minister of Public Health, in his report referred to great achievements in public health in 30 years after the publication of the work.
    Public health workers have consistently maintained the line of preventive medicine of the Workers' Party of Korea to prevent epidemic diseases from coming from abroad and activated medical services even in the period of the "Arduous March" and the forced march to defend the most advantageous free medical care system and display the might of the section doctor system, the reporter said, and went on:

Rodong Sinmun on Danger of Readjustment of "Emergency Law" in Japan

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries' moves for readjusting the "emergency law" are not aimed to ensure the security of Japan but realize military reinvasion. They are very dangerous moves for paving the way for unlimited military expansion and arms buildup. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article.
    It continues:
    A complete readjustment of the "emergency law" would enable Japan to establish the same legal and institutional system as what existed in the period of Japanese imperialism and legally undertake overseas military operations, unhindered.
    These moves would help significantly increase the sphere and capability of the U.S.-Japan joint military actions to pose a threat to regional peace and security.
    It is as clear as noonday that the Japanese reactionaries will take part with increased zeal in the U.S. war of aggression to realize their wild ambition for reinvasion and consequently the danger of military clash and war mount high in Asia.
    The DPRK is made the primary target of Japan's reaggression of Asia. The Japanese reactionaries seek to realize their wild ambition for a comeback to Korea by closely cooperating with the U.S. in its daily intensified moves to stifle the DPRK and zealously participating in them. They are set to invade Korea before any other countries and use it as a springboard from which to embark upon conquering Asia and the rest of the world just as the Japanese imperialists did in the past. Their closer military conspiracy and tie-up with the U.S. are to serve this purpose.
    Japan's readjustment of the "emergency law" is a dangerous move to provide a legal guarantee for its overseas reinvasion.
    The progressive people of Asia and the rest of the world should maintain high vigilance against Japan's readjustment of the "emergency law" and check and frustrate it.

Repatriation of Remaining Unconverted Long-Term Prisoners to North Demanded

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- Jong Sun Dok, former unconverted long-term prisoner in south Korea, died to the nation's sorrow before seeing the day of national reunification which she desired so much to see in her lifetime. It was a murder as it was an inevitable product of the crime against humanity. Minju Joson today says this in a signed commentary. It continues:
    She remained true in an indomitable spirit to her political faith and constancy despite all sorts of sufferings during her 23 years in prison. Even after her release from prison she stoutly covered the road of patriotism for national reconciliation and reunification. After the publication of the historic June 15 joint declaration, she was eager to come to the north, but the south Korean authorities refused to meet her wish under an unreasonable pretext.
    Jong was subject to political persecution and suppression under such evil laws as "the security law" and "law on the supervision for public peace".
    Nobody can vouch that other unconverted long-term prisoners in south Korea will not meet the same miserable death as Jong's as long as the political persecution and oppression persist.
    The unconverted long-term prisoners are entitled to receive social care and cordial treatment as they dedicated their lives to national reunification.
    Nevertheless, the U.S. and the south Korean ultra-right conservatives are kicking up anti-DPRK rackets over its "human rights issue" like a thief crying "Stop the thief!"
    The U.S. and the south Korean ultra-right conservatives should stop raising a hue and cry over someone's non-existent "human rights" but solve the urgent "human rights issue" in south Korea.
    The Korean nation will never pardon the U.S. imperialists and their stooges for reducing south Korea to a graveyard of human rights.
    On this occasion the DPRK strongly demands an early repatriation of all the unconverted long-term prisoners in south Korea who are eager to return to the north.

Celebration Meeting of Youth and Students Held

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- A meeting of youth and students in Pyongyang was held on April 7 at Kim Il Sung Square to celebrate the 11th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK. Kim Kyong Ho, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, made a report to be followed by speeches.
    The reporter and speakers said the election of Kim Jong Il, the illustrious commander of Mt. Paektu born of Heaven, as chairman of the DPRK NDC was a great national-historic auspicious event that inspired the army, people and youth of Korea with high national pride.
    Kim Jong Il set out the great Songun idea and Songun revolutionary line, the first of their kinds in history, and pursued the Songun policy and put the youth in the foreground as the main driving force in defending the country and performers of defence building, they noted.
    They called on all the youth and students to be ardent Songun revolutionary comrades sharing destiny with Kim Jong Il to the end in the long march of Songun revolution which they must continue, rain or snow, cherishing as their life and soul the firm faith that they will surely win when they are led by Kim Jong Il and unshakable spirit of devotedly defending the leader.

Air Line Agreement Signed between DPRK and Czech Republic

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- An agreement on air lines between the governments of the DPRK and the Czech Republic was signed with due ceremony in Pyongyang today.      Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- A DPRK government cultural delegation led by Mun Jae Chol, acting chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, left here today to visit Cuba.      Pyongyang April 8 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, is now in a festive atmosphere, ready to welcome art and acrobatic troupes coming from 40-odd countries to participate in the 22nd April Spring Friendship Art Festival to be held from April 10 to 18. Flags of the DPRK, festival flags and red banners are fluttering on the flag poles in the plazas of the April 25 House of Culture, the venue of the opening ceremony, the Mansudae Art Theatre, the Ponghwa Art Theatre, the Pyongyang Grand Theatre and other theatres where performances will be given and on the flag poles in streets. U.S. Increased Military Threat to DPRK Will Compel It to Bolster Its N- Deterrent

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- If the U.S. persistently increases its military threat to the DPRK, wasting time with its hypocritical talk about "dialogue", this will only compel the latter to bolster its nuclear deterrent force both in quality and quantity, warned Kim Il Chol, minister of the Peoples' Armed Forces, addressing a national meeting held on April 8 to celebrate the 11th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK. He noted: The U.S. imperialists are hatching plots to stifle the DPRK by force of arms behind the scene of the six-way talks, while getting more frantic in their moves to isolate and strangle it.
    The U.S. bellicose forces should ponder over the unpredictable consequences to be entailed by their provocations and behave with discretion, properly understanding the invincible might of the revolutionary armed forces and heroic people of the DPRK and their will to wipe out the enemy.

11th Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Election as Chairman of NDC of DPRK

     Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held at the April 25 House of Culture on April 8 to celebrate the 11th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Present there were senior officials of the Party, the state and the army.
    Kim Il Chol, minister of the People's Armed Forces, in a report made at the meeting said that the election of Kim Jong Il as chairman of the NDC of the DPRK on April 9, Juche 82 (1993) was a successful realization of the unanimous desire of all members of the Workers' Party of Korea, servicepersons of the People's Army and people of the DPRK to have him at the highest post of the Republic and an event specially recorded in its history as it paved a clear way for carrying out the revolutionary cause of Juche.
    Over the last decade Kim Jong Il has created a history of new change in consolidating the defences of the country and accomplishing the socialist cause with his great idea and leadership.
    He laid down the Songun revolutionary line of Juche with his deep insight into the international circumstances of the Korean revolution that altered since the 90s of the last century and the rapid changing trend of the situation. He thus established a new unique outlook and viewpoint of combining the issue of national defence with the destiny of the country and people and socialism and provided guidelines for building revolutionary armed forces for accomplishing the popular masses' cause of independence.
    Kim Jong Il clarified a new principle of the building of a socialist state in the Songun era and on this basis increased in every way the function and role of a powerful state leadership system with the National Defence Commission as its backbone and has wisely led the struggle to thoroughly implement the Songun revolutionary line in all fields of the revolution and construction.

    Estoy convencido de que tambien en el futuro estas relaciones se fortaleceran aun mas basandose en el Tratado concertado el 9 de febrero de 2000.

Kim Jong Il recibe mensaje de felicitacion del rey de Camboya

     Pyongyang, 8 de abril (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il recibio un mensaje de felicitacion que el Rey de Camboya, Norodom Sihanouk, le dirigiera el dia 2 con motivo del Dia del Sol (cumpleanos del Presidente Kim Il Sung). El mensaje senala:
    Con motivo del mas jubiloso Dia del Sol de este ano rindo el testimonio de la mas alta consideracion al excelentisimo Presidente, Generalisimo Kim Il Sung, gran lider, en nombre del pueblo camboyano, el parlamento, el gobierno real de Camboya y la familia real asi como en el mio propio.
    El presidente, al unir al valiente pueblo coreano en torno a la brillante filosofia Juche, logro el admirable desarrollo general en la construccion estatal y, al tomar la delantera de esta vasta empresa de construccion, estuvo firmemente al lado de todos los pueblos aspirantes a la emancipacion, la independencia y la no alineacion y demostro un ejemplo sin par de solidaridad activa y fraternidad entre todas las naciones y pueblos amantes de la paz, la libertad y la justicia.
    Gracias a la sabia direccion del camarada Kim Jong Il se han logrado grandes exitos nuevos en la labor para el desarrollo independiente de Corea y la reunificacion pacifica de la Peninsula Coreana.
    Deseo de todo corazon que el camarada Kim Jong Il cumpla honrosamente la historica mision de dirigir a Corea popular y democratica y me alegro de que la solidaridad mas distinguida y fraternal entre ambos paises y pueblos se desarrolla ininterrumpidamente.

Inaugurada Exposicion Central de Bellas Artes por el Dia del Sol

     Pyongyang, 8 de abril (ATCC) -- Quedo montada el dia 7 en el Palacio Cultural del Pueblo la Exposicion Central de Bellas Artes por el Dia del Sol (cumpleanos del Presidente Kim Il Sung). Estan exhibidas las obras de bellas artes alusivas a las grandes hazanas del Presidente Kim Il Sung acumuladas ante la Revolucion Coreana y el cumplimento de la causa de la independencia de la humanidad y sus nobles rasgos, y a la grandeza del la direccion del Dirigente Kim Jong Il sobre la revolucion mediante el Songun (priorizacion militar).
    Esta expuesta como obra principal la pintura al estilo coreano "Reviviendo los recuerdos pasados" que muestra con gran emocion la gran vida del Presidente.
    En el acto inaugural participaron Kim Jong Ho, presidente del Comite Central de la Federacion General de Escritores y Artistas de Corea, y otros funcionarios.
    Los participantes, despues de escuchar un discurso de apertura, vieron las obras exhibidas.
    La pintura al estilo coreano "El camarada Kim Il Sung compartiendo con los habitantes la alegria de la fundacion de la Republica", la al oleo "El 14 de abril de gran viraje", la de acril "Historia de la camaraderia", y otras que demuestran las inmortales hazanas del Presidente y los nobles rasgos del Dirigente dieron una profunda emocion a los participantes.
    Los presentes, al ver la bordadura "Seno de eterno Sol", la pancarta de computadora "!Exaltemos altamente la dignidad y el poderio de la Republica siguiendo a la gran bandera del Songun!", tomaron la firme conviccion y voluntad de construir la patria prospera en este territorio apoyando enteramente la idea y la direccion del Dirigente.
