Screened at the film shows were the Korean films "The Brilliant History of Great Leadership" and "The Korean People's Army, the Iron Ranks".

Intensive Struggle Declared in S. Korea
Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- The people for achieving peace and reunification reportedly held a press conference in front of the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of south Korea on June 3 to hold "a ceremony for declaring an intensive struggle against the 9th consultative meeting of south Korea-U.S. alliance future policy initiative and the negotiation on the reduction of the U.S. forces in south Korea."
The press release read at the press conference said the U.S. scheme to beef up its combat capabilities in south Korea at the cost of 1l billion dollars indicated that the cutback of the U.S. forces was intended to increase the attack capability.
The U.S. should reduce not only its ground force but also the naval and air forces and, finally, withdraw all its forces from south Korea, it said.
It urged the south Korean authorities to halt the introduction of U.S.-made weapons and hold again the negotiation on the transfer of the U.S. military base in Ryongsan.
After the press conference, the participants staged a sit-down, shouting "We are against the conversion of the U.S. forces in south Korea into Northeast Asian forces threatening peace on the Korean peninsula" and other slogans.
Surprise Demonstration against Troop Dispatch
Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- Students under the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils staged a surprise demonstration against troop dispatch to Iraq in front of the U.S. embassy on June 4, according to south Korean KBS.
They scattered leaflets which said: "The peace-loving Korean nation cannot join the U.S. in its brutal war of aggression and the 17th National Assembly should get rid of the pressure to send troops."
Anti-U.S. Death-defying Resistance Called for
Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- The Japan Mission of the National Democratic Front of South Korea released a statement on June 4 with the approach of the 2nd anniversary of the death of Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son, schoolgirls who were brutally killed by the U.S. armored car.
The statement called on the people of all walks of life to hold ever higher the candlelights against the U.S. and turn out as one man in a death-defying resistance until they have driven the U.S. imperialist aggression forces out of this land.
Noting that the murderers are behaving as the occupier and ruler on this land still today, committing shocking atrocities, the statement said: The present situation demands that all the people rise up in the nation-wide resistance against the U.S. to drive its aggression troops, the root cause of all misfortunes and pains, out of south Korea and bring about a new land, independent, democratic and reunified.
The statement called for grandly adorning "the nation-wide meeting for commemorating the second anniversary of the death of Hyo Sun and Mi Son on June 12 and having the decision on troop dispatch to Iraq withdrawn" with a death-defying anti-U.S. resistance.
Support to June 15 North-South Joint Declaration Called for
Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- The International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea (CILRECO) calls on all the progressive forces of the world to positively support the Korean people in their efforts to implement the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration according to their "national right to self-determination", said Guy Dupre, secretary general of the CILRECO, in a statement titled "The successes achieved in the movement for the reunification of Korea show that no outside forces can dampen the ardent desire of the Korean nation" issued on June 1 on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration.
Noting that the declaration accelerates the process of Korea's reunification, the statement said such signal turn in the movement is the result of the positive initiative taken by leader of the DPRK Kim Jong Il to pursue the policy of national reconciliation for the independent reunification of the country.
The statement continued:
The progressive forces in the world have expressed full support and solidarity with the Korean people who set a brilliant example in the struggle for justice, independence and peace in the world under the banner of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.
On the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the declaration, the CILRECO declares that it would more extensively conduct activities to put an end to the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK, force the U.S. forces to withdraw from south Korea and support the independent reunification of Korea in order to ensure lasting peace on the Korean peninsula, a main factor of security and peace in the region and the rest of the world.
U.S. Sub-critical Nuclear Test Flailed
Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today in a commentary hits at the criminal sub-critical nuclear test carried out by the United States at the Nevada underground nuclear test site on May 25.
The news analyst says:
The U.S. made another sub-critical nuclear test, turning a deaf ear to the world-wide denunciation and protest. This is an act of throwing a wet blanket over the desire and efforts of humankind to curb the nuclear arms race and live in a peaceful world and an open challenge to the world peace-loving people.
The U.S. imperialists are bent on nuclear tests while threatening the non-nuclear states under the pretext of "prevention of terrorism" and "deterrence to war". This is a shameless and high-handed practice to make nuclear attacks on countries out of their favor by developing new nuclear weapons.
This situation compels not only non-nuclear states but also nuclear states with relatively small quantities of nuclear weapons to seek measures to counter the nuclear threats and nuclear war moves of the U.S. imperialists.
A self-defensive measure stands out with great urgency in case of the DPRK.
At the six-way talks, the United States took issue with what it called the DPRK's "enriched uranium program" while seeking to make the world admit it.
When it failed, with no one heeding it, the U.S. came out with the fiction of "secret sale of uranium hexafluoride" to label the DPRK "proliferator of nuclear materials". And it must not go unnoticed that the U.S. is framing up a new plot to force the DPRK to admit a "enriched uranium program" by manipulating the International Atomic Energy Agency, its tool.
The current situation urges the DPRK to further increase its nuclear deterrent. The DPRK has the right to increase its nuclear deterrent in face of the U.S. imperialists' strategy of mounting a nuclear preemptive attack and stifling it. This is quite natural under the current situation.
The U.S. had better abandon its nuclear plot against the DPRK, judging the realities with a cool head.
KCNA on Japan's Legislation on Sanctions against DPRK
Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- The "bill banning the entry of specified foreign ships into port" was railroaded by the Liberal Democratic Party, the New Komeito Party and the Japanese Democratic Party through Japan's House of Representatives on June 3, according to a news report.
It is well known that the bill is actually aimed at an economic pressure on the DPRK as it will serve as a law totally banning the entry of the ship "Mangyongbong 92" and other DPRK ships into Japan.
The Japanese right-wing conservative forces have thus adopted the economic sanctions against the DPRK as a state policy. This is a challenge to the DPRK and a serious infringement upon its sovereignty.
What matters is that such bill was passed through the House of Representatives at a time when there has been an atmosphere of positive change in the relations between the two countries since the DPRK-Japan summit meeting on May 22.
This move of the Japanese right-wing conservatives, therefore, can not be interpreted otherwise than a deliberate sinister attempt to spoil the hard-won positive atmosphere, displeased with it.
As already reported, the top leaders of the DPRK and Japan at their meeting and talks exchanged wide-range views on overall issues arising in the relations between the two countries including the issues of implementing the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration and restoring the bilateral confidence.
The thorough implementation of the declaration is a prerequisite to improving the relations between the two countries and solving the pending issues.
The DPRK has done everything it can for its implementation and it is an unshakable stand of the DPRK to remain true to it to the last.
The Japanese authorities also expressed the will to implement the declaration. Prime Minister Koizumi, in particular, sent a congratulatory message to the 20th Congress of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan in which he manifested his willingness to exert utmost efforts to normalize the ties between the two countries.
This is a positive development in the direction of improving the bilateral relations in the idea of the Declaration.
This notwithstanding, the Japanese right-wing conservatives passed the above-said bill through the Diet swimming against such trend. This action is, therefore, unjustifiable and cannot but be censured by the public.
It is by no means fortuitous that Chief Cabinet Secretary Hosota at a press conference on June 1 said that the policy of the Japanese government is not to invoke the law banning the entry of specified foreign ships into Japan even after its adoption so long as north Korea implements the Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration.
His remark can be interpreted as a reflection of the Japanese people's desire to support the outcome of their prime minister's Pyongyang visit and see the restoration of the bilateral confidence.
It is as clear as daylight that the Japanese right-wing conservative forces took this action, prompted by their inveterate bitterness towards the DPRK quite contrary to the desire of the two peoples. Through this they sought a sinister aim to hamstring the efforts to implement the Declaration at all costs and drop a check-bar on the process of improving the relations between the two countries, displeased with the outcome of the DPRK-Japan summit talks.
Those forces are working hard to economically isolate and stifle the DPRK, taking advantage of the moves of the United States to apply economic sanctions against the DPRK through the UN in a bid to stifle it while spreading the fiction of "its smuggling of uranium hexafluoride" with the 3rd round of the Six-Party Talks near at hand. This is, however, a daydream.
The Japanese right-wing conservatives are well advised to face up to the trend of the times and behave themselves, mindful that a wicked man is his own hell.

Koryo Sindoksan Mineral Water
Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- The Sindoksan spring water has been renowned as one of the three most famous mineral waters in the world. It gushes out in the breast of Mt. Sindok in Ryonggang County, South Phyongan Province of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The spring water contains kalium, sodium, magnesium, fluorine, hydrogen carbonic acid ion and chlorine ion and other matters good for health and longevity. Its hardness meter is 3.5 and PH 7.2. Local and Japanese and other foreign research institutes evaluate it as the best one which fully conforms to the world standard of drinking water and meets the taste and health index.
According to historical records, the spring water, very good for health and longevity, has been extensively used from long time ago.
The book "New Account of Expedition to Korean Territory" published in 1530 writes that as the water has good taste and helps one quickly recover one's spirits, a lot of people trained their military arts there in the period of Koryo.
The government has registered the Koryo Sindoksan spring water as the DPRK's natural monument No. 404.
New Habitats of White-bellied Black Woodpecker, Korean Endemic Species, Confirmed
Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- Officials of the Central Committee of the DPRK Natural Conservation Union and scientists, technicians, teachers and researchers of the Zoology Institute of the Biological Branch of the Academy of Sciences, the Life Science Department of Kim Il Sung University and the Bureau for Direction of Cultural Preservation recently made a deep-going survey of the distribution of white-bellied black woodpecker.
In this course, new habitats of the bird were confirmed in the extensive woods of Rinsan, Phyongsan and Jangphung Counties and Pakyon area of Kaesong City through which runs the range of Mt. Myolak.

True to the instructions of President Kim Il Sung, the DPRK marked off sanctuaries of this bird in Juche 58 (1969) with the result that the number of the bird and its habitats have gradually increased.
Leader Kim Jong Il took a measure to direct the efforts of the state to the work of protecting and increasing the rare bird.
