Seminar on Kim Jong Il's Feats Held in Russia

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- A seminar on leader Kim Jong Il's feats in leading the Workers' Party of Korea and in Songun leadership was held on June 7 under the sponsorship of the Party for Peace and Unity of Russia on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his start of work at the Central Committee of the WPK. S. Z. Umalatova, chairperson of the Party for Peace and Unity of Russia, in a report said Kim Jong Il began his work at the C.C., the WPK on June 19, 1964. She noted: He, overflowing with youthful vigor, won boundless respect of all the people for his extraordinary sweep in work, purposefulness and warm love of and trust in the people.
In face of his Songun politics the persistent and vicious moves of the imperialists to stifle the DPRK miscarried. The single-hearted close unity of the DPRK around him is unbreakable.
Under Songun politics, the greatest efforts were channeled to increasing the military potential in the DPRK and the Korean People's Army has been turned into the most powerful army politically and ideologically and in military technology.
Herein lies the key to defense of sovereignty of the country and socialism from the repeated anti-DPRK moves of the U.S. and western forces. The people are the very one directly entrusted with socialist construction and the army is the core force and pillar of the revolution.
    Then speeches followed.

Kim Jong Il Praised

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- A meeting and a photo exhibition were held in Prague on June 7 under the co-sponsorship of the Czechoslovak Communist Party and the Paektusan Czech-Korean Friendship Association on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's start of his work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. The chairman of the Paektusan Czech-Korean Friendship Association in his speech said that Kim Jong Il has led all affairs of the country including politics, economy, military affairs and culture since his start of work at the Central Committee of the WPK on June 19, 1964, adding that in this period the Juche idea of President Kim Il Sung has served as a great guiding idea of the era of independence and the WPK grown strong to be a most experienced and seasoned party.
He stressed that Kim Jong Il's Songun politics is enjoying the absolute trust of the people and socialist Korea will make a victorious advance under its banner in the future, too.
Meanwhile, Korean film shows were held on June 7 and 8 by the State Radio Broadcasting Service of Democratic Congo and Badja Machinery Company of Indonesia and in Bangkok of Thailand to mark the 40th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of his work at the C.C., the WPK and the 4th anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.
After seeing the film "Mass Gymnastic and Artistic Performance 'Ever-Victorious Workers' Party of Korea' to Celebrate the 55th Anniversary of the WPK" the editor in chief of the State Radio Broadcasting Service of Democratic Congo, said that the film fully showed the development of the WPK and he came to know well how ardently the Korean people follow their leader and how firmly they are united around Kim Jong Il and the single-hearted unity of the DPRK represents the might of Korea and no aggressors can break it.
And Latigo Oral, deputy director for Foreign Relations of the Secretariat of the National Movement of Uganda, made public a statement on June 8 on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of his work at the C.C., the WPK.
He said that Kim Jong Il has strengthened and developed the WPK founded by the President with his outstanding ideas and theories and through his energetic activities, highly praising Kim Jong Il for his exploits in the party building.

Campaign against Troop Dispatch to Iraq in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- The Group for Realizing National Cooperation against the U.S. of the Reunification Solidarity reportedly conducted a signature campaign against the troop dispatch to Iraq and an intensive campaign for distributing reunification postcards in Seoul on June 9. Ra Chang Sun, chairman of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, Kwon O Chang, permanent co-representative of the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration, and other figures of the group and students affiliated to the Seoul Southern District Federation of University Student Councils distributed literature carrying photos showing GIs' maltreatment of Iraqi POWs and reunification postcards among citizens.
Many citizens participated in the signature campaign demanding the withdrawal of the decision on the troop dispatch to Iraq and wrote on the reunification postcards such letters as "We welcome those who come to Inchon" and "Compatriots in the north also belong to our nation" for the successful opening of a "meeting of our nation to mark the 4th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration."
Members of the group marched holding a placard on the common functions of the nation before having a meeting.
Then they participated in a function held at Dongguk University to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of the Seoul City Association of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification.

Allowance of Participation in National Meeting Demanded

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification (Pomminryon) on June 10 reportedly released a statement titled "guarantee the participation in the meeting of our nation to mark the 4th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration". The statement noted that the changed political situation in south Korea after the "national assembly election" foretells the expansion and development and qualitative leap of the south-north relations and, in particular, the people from all walks of life are waging a more active struggle than ever before against the U.S. and for national cooperation.
For the present, it is strongly required for the development of the movement for the great unity of the whole nation to make the "meeting of our nation to mark the 4th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration" a scene of gathering and unity of the whole nation and a scene of a festival participated in by all the people wanting reunification, the statement said.
    It went on:
The South Headquarters of Pomminryon strongly demands the "government" authorities renounce the posture of excluding it from the south-north joint function based on the spirit of the June 15 joint declaration with the logic of the "Security Law."
The South Headquarters of Pomminryon will make devoted efforts for the successful opening of the joint function of the nation and will never tolerate such anti-reunification acts as "selected exclusion" which is opposed to the spirit of the June 15 joint declaration.

Strikes at South Korean Hospitals

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- Over 10,000 members of hospital trade unions simultaneously went on a strike on June 10 at 100 or more hospitals, according to MBC of south Korea. The unionists had been holding negotiations with the employers to push their demand to cut the working hours and increase the wages. When the negotiations came to a rupture, they immediately called a strike.
MBC said the current strike of hospital trade unions is the biggest ever in scale and the number of strikers is expected to increase with the passage of time.

Arrogant Behavior of Occupier

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- Negotiations between south Korea and the U.S. on the transfer of the U.S. military base in Ryongsan, Seoul, came to a rupture a few days ago due to the unfair demand of the U.S. for a vast building lot of 3.6 million Phyong. Rolis, the delegate of the U.S. side, flying into one of his passions, called a news conference and threatened that "the plan and schedule for the additional deployment of latest Patriot missiles might not be fulfilled" unless the south Korean authorities accept the demand of the U.S.
Rodong Sinmun in a commentary today describes this as an arrogant behavior of the occupier.
    The news analyst says:
Rolis told about the south Korea-U.S. "alliance." But this "alliance", which is actually master-servant relations wrapped in silk, has only brought disasters to the south Korean people. The south Koreans no longer regard the United States as a "friendly nation" and they spit at the "relations of alliance" advertised by the U.S.
Rolis called a press conference, thinking the U.S. could rob south Korea of its precious land with threat and blackmail. But he was only put to shame.
The U.S., well aware of the south Korean public sentiments, should no more behave itself as the occupier but make a bold decision to withdraw its troops from south Korea.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Simultaneous Action

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- The Bush group of the U.S. is making free with sophism, abruptly talking about the "destiny" of light water reactors. What they assert is that there is no prospect of the construction of light water reactors and concession such as resuming their construction is unthinkable. Rodong Sinmun Monday in a signed commentary dismisses it as a typical robber-like logic of U.S style whereby it thinks of and views everything reverse fashion and behave unilaterally.
    The commentary says:
In bringing forward again the "destiny" of light water reactors the Bush administration seeks to evade the criminal responsibility for having rendered things complicate by frustrating the settlement of the pending issues between the DPRK and the U.S. and scrapped the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework before the presidential election slated for November. This, however, is a crude and despicable attempt to craftily shift their responsibility on to the others by an unpopular sleight of hand.
The DPRK has drawn a precious lesson from the ignorant act of the Bush administration which cast away in a moment even an official document signed by the ex-president of the U.S. itself like a scrap of paper. The lesson is that relations based on confidence are out of question with the Bush administration and that every issue with the U.S. must be settled strictly on the principle of one to one simultaneous action. According to this very lesson, the DPRK proposed simultaneous action on the principle of "reward for freeze".
The Bush administration would be advised not to bend vain efforts to dodge the responsibility for the present state of things and, though belatedly, make a practicable option to open the door of confidence-building.

KCNA Flails U.S. for Scrapping DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- High-ranking officials of the United States reportedly let loose a string of balderdash that the U.S. made it clear that there is no prospect for the construction of LWRs and there can not be such concession as the resumption of the LWR construction. This goes to clearly prove once again that it was the United States which scrapped the DPRK-U.S. Agreed Framework as they declared a total suspension of the construction of LWRs which had been supposed to be provided by the U.S. to the DPRK under the AF.
Underlying their remarks is a U.S. foolish attempt to shirk its responsibility for having unilaterally pulled out of the AF.
As already known, the Bush administration has expressed inveterate bitterness toward the system in the DPRK, listing it as an "axis of evil" and a target of a preemptive nuclear attack from the very day of its appearance. In October 2002 it openly threatened and pressurized the DPRK, groundlessly charging that it violated the AF by going ahead with its "uranium enriched program" for the purpose of manufacturing nuclear weapons.
The DPRK side only told the U.S. special envoy that it is entitled to have a nuclear weapon and even something more powerful than it in order to protect its sovereignty from the U.S. escalated threat to stifle the DPRK with nukes. The DPRK has never admitted any "uranium enriched program" absurdly claimed by the U.S.
Nevertheless, the U.S. unilaterally announced its step to stop the supply of heavy oil to the DPRK as from November 14, 2002 and totally halted even the LWR construction as from December 1, 2003 under this pretext.
This was nothing surprising for the DPRK as it had already expected such action from the U.S. administration.
From the very outset the DPRK has never anticipated that the Bush administration would complete the LWR construction to the last as it was steeped in hostility toward the DPRK to the marrow of its bone. The issue of LWRs taught the DPRK a serious lesson that there can be no relationship based on confidence with the U.S. government as it scrapped the AF the core issue of which is the provision of LWRs to Pyongyang, regarding even this document signed by its president as a pair of old shoes.
It is necessary to settle any issue with the U.S. through a one-one agreement on the principle of simultaneous actions. This alone may lead to the process of building confidence, the most important issue in the present DPRK-U.S. relations.
The DPRK will settle any issue with the U.S. on this principle in any case in the future

Rodong Sinmun on Single-hearted Unity

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- The single-hearted unity is a result of the historical review of the protracted and arduous Korean revolution, the most precious gain with which can not be bartered for anything and an all-powerful treasured sword for the victory in the cause of Juche-oriented Songun, says Rodong Sinmun Monday in a signed article. It continues:
The 40 year-long history of Kim Jong Il's revolutionary leadership is a glorious one in which he made a new history of the revolutionary unity, guided by the idea of single-hearted unity based on the theory of uniting around the leader and a brilliant history in which he has remarkably increased the might of the single-hearted unity with the army as the core.
The idea of the single-hearted unity is a revolutionary philosophy, a political philosophy Kim Jong Il has held fast to since the very beginning of his revolutionary leadership. The essence of the idea is the theory of uniting around the leader which clarifies that the leader is the supreme brain of the revolution and the centre of socio-political organism.
The revolutionary ranks can achieve unity strong and stable enough to overcome any hardships and ordeals and surely ensure victory in the revolution only when they get united around the leader in thinking, purpose and in the sense of moral obligation, guided by the idea of the leader with him as a central figure. It is the maxim for the servicepersons and people of the DPRK that they consider joy, sorrow and ordeal in their way of following Kim Jong Il as honour.
The single-hearted unity present is the revolutionary unity based on the invincible army achieved on the basis of the great Songun idea of Kim Jong Il and a matchless harmonious whole as the headquarters of the revolution, the army and people share the same destiny as Songun revolutionary comrades.
It is the unshakable faith of the army and people of the DPRK that there can be neither sovereignty, dignity and life nor the glorious history and bright future of the country and the revolution without Kim Jong Il.
Kim Jong Il, the Workers' Party of Korea, the army and people form an invariable harmonious whole as they have one and the same idea, faith, destiny and future.
Unshakable are the determination and will of the army and people to defend the idea, system and cause in the DPRK to the last, holding fast to arms and unity as an invincible weapon.
The single-hearted unity of the Party, the army and people serves as a strong motive power to bring about a leap forward in building a great prosperous powerful nation.
The Party, the army and people will glorify the long journey of the revolution for carving out the future of the cause of Songun as an eternal history of the victory of the single-hearted unity just as they ushered in the most brilliant era of the Juche revolution, having Kim Jong Il as the centre of the unity.

Buddhist Mass Held

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- An "anti-U.S., anti-war Buddhist mass to defend peace and pray for the reunification of the country" was held at Pohyon Temple in Mt. Myohyang on Sunday on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary to cherish the memory of late Sin Hyo Sun and Sim Mi Son, schoolgirls killed by GIs. Present at the mass were clergymen of the Central Committee and the Hyangsan County Committee of the Korean Buddhist Federation, the chief priest and priests of Pohyon Temple and Buddhists.
A ritual was followed by a memorial address and speeches. Then followed a reading out of a note offering a prayer.
Noting that two years have passed since Hyo Sun and Mi Son were killed in cold blood, but their towering resentment has not yet been wrecked, the speakers bitterly denounced the atrocities committed by the U.S. imperialists during the Korean war and the crimes committed by them in an unbroken chain in south Korea.
Accusing the U.S. imperialists, sworn enemy of the Korean nation and the biggest gang of robbers in the world, of working hard to ignite a nuclear war on this land, they called on all the Buddhists in the north to uphold the patriotic Songun politics and wipe out the U.S. imperialist aggressors to the last man by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation if they ignite another Korean war and bring earlier the day of national reunification without fail.

Anniversary of June Popular Resistance Commemorated in S. Korea

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- Functions reportedly took place in Seoul on June 10 to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the June popular resistance. The Reunification Solidarity held a ceremony to declare a struggle to inherit the martyrs' spirit and get the "Security Law" repealed in front of the building of the "National Assembly" that day.
Han Sang Ryol, permanent representative of the RS, addressing the ceremony, denounced "the government's step of selected non-permission of the participation of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils in our national meeting for commemorating the 4th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration".
Kwon O Hon, permanent representative of the Peoples' Solidarity for inheriting the spirit of the movement for democracy, said: Many reform-minded persons entered the NA through the general election. Let us not fail to have the SL abolished, achieve democracy and, furthermore, win independence, democracy and reunification through the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration.
So Kyong Sun, former permanent chairman of the Family Movement for Realizing Democracy, said:
I shudder with anger at the mere thought of the SL. The 17th NA must completely abolish the SL, not partly revising it. Now we should not detain the Americans any longer, but kick them off.
Ri Hae Son, chairman of the Reunification Committee of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, called upon the south Korean workers to join in the struggle for the abolition of the SL and withdrawal of the decision to send troops to Iraq with the determination to make a progressive history in this land.
A declaration was read out at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, a ceremony commemorating the 17th anniversary of the June popular resistance was held at Jongdong, Seoul. Present there were more than 500 people including members of civic and public organizations and national assemblymen from the ruling and opposition parties.
There a declaration on the situation was made public which called for, among other things, the liquidation of the old-time politics, completion of true democratic reforms, eradication of social inequality, opposition to U.S. hegemonism, removal of the left-over of the Cold War era, building of a foundation for independence, peace and reunification.
The commemoration ceremony was followed by a seminar commemorating the June popular resistance at the educational house of the Memorial Commission of the Movement for Democracy.

Tremendous Achievements Produced by Idea "By Our Nation Itself"

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- A tremendous change has taken place in the reunification movement of the Korean nation under the idea "by our nation itself" since the publication of the historical June 15 North-South Joint Declaration in Juche 89 (2000). The past four years have witnessed 14 rounds of north-south ministerial talks, nine rounds of meetings of North-South Committee for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation and other kinds of dialogue, contacts, cooperation and exchange between the north and the south in the political, economic and cultural fields.
Pro-reunification functions had been held separately in the north and south. Since the publication of the joint declaration, however, functions marking June 15, August 15 liberation and other commemoration days common to the nation have been held as nation-wide ones, thus further consolidating solidarity and unity among many reunification movement organizations.
The grand national symposium on the reunification held in June 2001with the participation of more than 460 representatives from some 210 political parties and organizations in the north, south and overseas, the August 15 national rally for reunification in 2002 and the grand festival for national reunification marking the third anniversary of the publication of the joint declaration, the March 1 national rally for peace and reunification and the August 15 national rally for peace and reunification in 2003 and other events fully demonstrated the will of the Korean nation to achieve the independent reunification with concerted efforts of the Korean nation.
The participants in the conference of workers for national reunification in 2003, May Day reunification rally of workers for implementing the joint declaration in 2004, meeting of teachers, meeting of students and other inter-Korean events expressed their firm resolution to become vanguards in the pro-reunification movement.
Meanwhile, historians in the north and the south have made all efforts to well preserve the priceless cultural assets showing the advantages of the nation and retake the national dignity with their united efforts and wisdom through several academic exchange including the north-south exhibition and symposium of the art of colorful painting, the north-south joint academic symposium to probe the truth behind Japan's distortion of the history of Korea.
Sportspersons of the north and south marched together at the opening ceremonies of the 27th Olympic Games, the 14th Asian Games and the 22nd Universiad and other international tournaments with the Korean peninsula flag in their van. And boosters from both sides, through their joint cheering, fully demonstrated that the Korean nation was one which could not live, separated into two.
Unimaginable before the publication of the joint declaration were such activities as projects for relinking the severed east and west coastal railways and roads, the ground-breaking ceremony of the Kaesong industrial zone, operation of the tourist resort of Mt. Kumgang famous in the world and opening of sea and air routes.
All these are the brilliant fruition borne by the idea of "by our nation itself"

New Species of Fish for Breeding

Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- Pisiculturists of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has succeeded in finding out the biological features of new species of fish including carp and crucian carp and solving scientific and technical matters arising in their breeding. These species live in rivers and natural streams. They are strong in activities for prey and in vitality and high in productivity.
After several years of research into these species in breeding farms, rivers and streams, the scientists have proved that they are suitable to the climate conditions of Korea.
Their survival rate is 6 times that of other species of fish and their growth is two years faster than other kinds of fish including Kinyom fish (silver carp).
They can grow in the water of zero degrees centigrade. They eat mainly water plants. Besides, they also eat organic matters, mud, green moss, aquatic animals, etc.
One year after fry of these fish each weighing 5-10 grams were released in the Taedong River near the dam of the West Sea Barrage, where hundreds of thousands of tons of water plants were growing, and in natural streams, each fry weighs 250-350 grams on an average.
If they are bred in natural streams for a few years, they propagate themselves rapidly.
They are also richer in flesh and protein than others.
As they are tasty and have much essential amino acid, they promote the growth of people and prevent their aging.
