Friendly Gathering Held

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- Chinese Ambassador E.P. to the DPRK Wu Donghe arranged a friendly gathering at his embassy Tuesday evening in connection with leader Kim Jong Il's successful historic unofficial visit to China. Present on invitation were Pak Kyong Son, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and officials concerned.
    Staff members of the Chinese embassy here were also on hand.
    Speeches were made there.
    Recalling that Kim Jong Il paid an unofficial visit to China and met the new collective leadership of China with Hu Jintao as general secretary, they said this marked a historic event in strengthening and developing the friendly and cooperative relations between the two parties and peoples of the DPRK and China.
    The participants talked to one another about the need to boost these relations, deepening the friendship.

Grand March of Independent Reunification in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- "The grand march of independent reunification to implement the June 15 joint declaration, successfully open the meeting of our nation, realize national cooperation against the U.S." took place in Seoul on June 12 under the sponsorship of the Reunification Solidarity. Participating in it were over 1000 youths and students and members of civic and public organizations.
    At the rally that preceded the start of the march, Han Sang Ryol, permanent representative of the Reunification Solidarity, said the grand march was not only a march against the U.S. but a march of national cooperation.
    At the end of the rally, the participants were divided into a column "for national cooperation and reunification" and a column "against the U.S. and war and for the withdrawal of the murderous U.S. troops" and they marched from the University Road to the front of Kwanghwamun.
    The marchers were carrying slogan-boards reading "Congratulations on the 4th anniversary of June 15" and "Our nation is the best" and large reunification flags bearing such letters as "Implementation of the joint declaration" and the flag of each organization.
    Students of Chonnam National University, the "June 15 youth march group for the withdrawal of the decision on troop dispatch to Iraq and implementation of the joint declaration" and the "national pilgrimage group of youth and students to mark the 4th anniversary of June 15, get the decision on troop dispatch to Iraq retracted and realize national cooperation against the U.S." joined in the march with a picture of the great Paektu mountain range, a flag symbolizing Koguryo and a picture satirizing Bush, attracting public attention.

Japan Mission of NDFSK Issues Statement

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- The deputy chief of the Japan Mission of the National Democratic Front of South Korea (NDFSK) reportedly made public a statement Tuesday on the 4th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration. The statement noted that all the Koreans were significantly greeting the 4th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration which was recorded in the history of the movement for national reunification as an extra-large event.
    The statement continued:
    After the publication of the joint declaration, to say nothing of contacts, dialogues and visits between the south and the north, meetings between people of different social strata for reunification have been held in succession while working people including workers and peasants were coming to the surface as the masters of reunification and a radical turn has taken place in the movement for independent national reunification.
    Of course, the United States and the extra-right anti-reunification conservative forces following the U.S. lead, while obstructing in every way the implementation of the join t declaration, leave no stone unturned in the attempts to block the vigorous advance of the Korean nation toward its independent reunification and great national unity. However, doomed is the destiny of those who are going against the torrential flow of history toward independent reunification following the June 15 joint declaration.
    The domination and interference of the United States and the presence of its troops in south Korea are today a hurdle in the way of reunification thrown by them in pursuance of confrontation, war and permanent division of Korea.
    It is high time the Korean popular masses, the master in accomplishing the cause of independent reunification, armed itself with the steadfast Korean nation-first spirit and turned out as one in the movement to terminate the U.S. domination and interference and force its troops, the chieftain of evils, out of south Korea.
    Together with all the people we will certainly open a decisive phase of the country's reunification by waging a vigorous struggle to achieve independent reunification by the efforts of our nation itself under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration.

1st International Martial Art Games to Be Held in Pyongyang

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- The 1st International Martial Art Games will be held here from Sep.15 to 20 according to the decision of the 3rd general meeting of the Committee of the International Martial Art Games held in Phnom Penh. The games will be held in the form of martial art festival. It will involve competitions in such events as Taekwon-do, wushu, Karate, paduk, kick-boxing, aikido, jujutsu and Korean wrestling, exhibition performance and exhibition matches.
    The games will bring together at least 600 martial art players from more than 50 countries and a lot of tourists.
    A famous Korean female band will perform at the opening and closing ceremonies of the games to be held in unique style and content. The attendants will have an opportunity to see the historic flame flare up from the newly built flame holder of the Martial Art Games.
    Preparations for the games are brisk headway with the strong support of the DPRK government.

Rodong Sinmun on Songun Idea

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today runs an editorial article calling upon the Workers' Party of Korea, servicepersons and people of Korea to regard Juche-based Songun idea of leader Kim Jong Il as the eternal lifeline of the Korean revolution and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche. The article says:
    The Songun idea represents an ideological banner that provides a sure guarantee for the victory of the socialist cause and the most powerful weapon for foiling the double-dealing tactics of the imperialists aimed to destroy socialism politically and militarily.
    The armed forces in the revolutionary cause of Songun display matchless strength as they are strong in idea and faith. They serve as an all powerful treasured sword capable of coping with any strategy of the enemies.
    The Songun idea is the revolutionary strategy with which to increase the driving force in every way with the revolutionary army as the mainstay, the army standing guard over the most vital line in defending socialism and the most revolutionary, militant and powerful contingent of society. The idea represents a revolutionary line on dynamically pushing ahead with the overall socialist construction on the principle of putting priority to military affairs.
    The army represents the banner of independence and prosperity that all the countries and nations should hold aloft in preserving the Juche character and national identity in our era and a powerful weapon to establish fair international relations on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
    The idea calls for attaching importance to the army and projecting it as it fights for justice and independence against imperialism and loves the country, the nation and the people, while maintaining principle and merciless towards the enemy. U.S. Hit for Obstructing Reconciliation, Cooperation and Reunification

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today holds the United States chiefly responsible for desperately obstructing the implementation of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula. Recalling that no sooner had the Bush administration come to power than it listed the DPRK as part of an "axis of evil" before understanding it properly and defined it as its policy to make preemptive attacks on the DPRK and has pursued it, the news analyst says:
    Since the adoption of the declaration the U.S., displeased with it, has hamstrung its implementation overtly or covertly. It went to the lengths of openly blocking the process of reconciliation among Koreans and peaceful reunification by putting pressure upon the south Korean authorities to adjust the tempo of improving the inter-Korean relations under the pretext of the nuclear issue, claiming that the process of improving the inter-Korean relations is too fast.
    Of late the U.S. is stepping up the relocation of the U.S. troops in south Korea and the moves to increase their combat power. It intends to spend 11 billion dollars for equipping the U.S. troops in south Korea with ultra-modern arms and remarkably increasing the mobility and striking power.
    A lot of the latest war equipment has already been shipped into south Korea from Iraq or in the process of transfer.
    Neither successful implementation of the declaration nor independent reunification can be expected as long as the U.S. persistently pursues the hostile policy toward the DPRK.
    Unshakable are the desire and will of the Koreans to foil the U.S. interference and achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country by the concerted efforts of the nation. The U.S. should face up to the reality, stop obstructing the implementation of the declaration, pull its forces out of south Korea and take its hands off Korea. This would be in line with the interests of the U.S.

Redeployment of U.S. Forces for Preemptive Attacks under Fire

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- It is the design of the United States to make a switchover in its strategy from the Cold War era strategy of keeping troops in the specific regions to the strategy of task forces and realize its ambition for Korean aggression and Asian domination through preemptive attack and an indiscriminating war by use of ultra-modern war means, observes Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary. While talking about "cutback of U.S. forces and their redeployment" in the Asia-Pacific region including south Korea, the U.S. is creating the impression that its policy of military domination over this region is undergoing a sort of change.
    It is, however, becoming clear that the redeployment of forces stepped up by the U.S. in real earnest in south Korea and various other areas is aimed at using Japan as a most important stronghold for taking prompt actions in the Asia-Pacific region and south Korea as an axis for the transfer of its forces.
    The U.S. has already deployed scores of the latest Patriot missiles and ultra-modern reconnaissance planes in south Korea. It intends to spend 11 billion dollars in four years to come for deploying military hardware and equipment with high mobility and striking power there in a bid to significantly bolster the combat power of the U.S. forces. Its deployment of new type task operation means in the vicinity of south Korea, Hawaii, Guam and Asia-Pacific area is meant to carry out its scenario for mounting a preemptive attack on the DPRK by use of powerful task forces.
    All this goes to clearly prove that the moves the U.S. is stepping up more desperately than ever before to increase its strategic forces, task striking forces and long-distance operation capability under the signboard of "troops cutback" in and around south Korea are aimed at holding an unchallenged military strategic edge and realizing its strategy of Asian invasion, come what may.
    Not only the DPRK but its neighboring countries are targets of the U.S. new military strategy.
    These dangerous moves of the U.S. escalating the military tension in the region are bound to go bust.

U.S. Strong-arm Policy Fated to Miscarry

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- What the U.S. is seeking is to attach the label of a nuclear criminal to the DPRK and convince the international community of the "urgency" and "gravity" of the situation so the latter may join it in forming an encircling ring around the DPRK and pursuing a hostile policy against it, declares Minju Joson Wednesday. Recalling that Voice of Russia some time ago released a commentator's article predicting that the unilateral call of the U.S. for "complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement" (CVID) would only render the situation on the Korean peninsula complicate by driving the forthcoming six-party talks to a collapse and infinitely prolonging the discussion on the nuclear issue, the news analyst goes on:
    Noting that the U.S. was laying artificial hurdles in the way of a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue, persisting in its unfeasible demand, the DPRK has already warned that this would not bring a favorable result to it either. Nevertheless, the U.S. has put forward only its robber-like demand in the whole period of the talks with the DPRK, showing no change in its attitude.
    The U.S. should know that its unreasonable stand can no longer work but will only lead the U.S. to an international isolation.
    Considering its specific relations with the U.S., the DPRK judged that the nuclear issue could be settled only by the mode of package solution based on the principle of simultaneous actions and proposed "reward for freezing" as the action of the first stage.
    If the U.S. tried to force upon the DPRK its unilateral demand, persisting as ever in CVID, this would be branded as an unjustifiable act to attain its foul political aim, not wanting a solution to the nuclear issue, and would call forth stronger protest and bitterer denunciation from the international community.

Concert in Seoul Marks Anniversary of June 15 Joint Declaration

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- A concert "2004 Grand Chorus of Our Nation for Reunification " was reportedly held in the plaza in front of the Kuro district office in Seoul on June 13 on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration. Over 3000 citizens of Seoul attended the concert which was sponsored by the committee for the promotion of the "chorus."
    Those who took the floor prior to the concert said many changes have taken place since the publication of the June 15 joint declaration, adding that the period since the publication of this declaration might be called an era of reunification.
    At the concert different art organizations presented diverse numbers on the themes of the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration, the withdrawal of the decision to dispatch troops to Iraq and so on.
    While the concert was under way its attendants responded to performers by waving candlelights.
    The concert ended with the chorus "Our Wish Is Reunification."
    It was followed by a handover of a large Korean peninsula flag, a primary school pupils' exhibition of newspapers for reunification, middle and high schoolers' exhibition of postcards for reunification and a news photo exhibition and so on in the plaza.

U.S. Attempt to Start Nuclear and Biochemical War under Fire

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korean National Peace Committee in a statement Tuesday bitterly denounced in the name of all the Koreans the U.S. imperialist aggressors for working hard to launch a nuclear and biochemical war to exterminate all Koreans. The statement said:
    Marks indicating the storage of chemical weapons, weapons of mass destruction (WMD), were found at an ammunition depot of the guards belonging to the "UN Forces Command" controlling the Demilitarized Zone in Panmunjom.
    This clearly proves that the U.S. has pushed forward a criminal plan to use not only nuclear weapons but biological and chemical weapons in a war of aggression to stifle the DPRK.
    It is the height of impudence for the U.S. to blame other countries for threatening it with WMD.
    The U.S. insists that its WMD does not pose any threat, but it is a problem for the DPRK to have its deterrent force for self-defence. This logic of the Bush administration reflects the brazen-faced American way of thinking and is nothing but brigandish sophistry.
    The scenario of the U.S. warmongers for a nuclear and biochemical war is posing a real threat to exterminate the Korean nation. This dangerous development requires all the Koreans in the north and the south and overseas to unite close and build the structure of the Korean nation's confrontation with the U.S. through effective national cooperation.
    The statement expressed belief that the peace-loving organizations and people of the world would voice full support and solidarity to the Korean nation in its just struggle to force the U.S. aggression troops, the root cause of a war, to pull out of south Korea taking with them nuclear and biological and chemical weapons and frustrate the U.S. moves to launch a war against the DPRK.

Revolutionary Soldier Spirit Fully Displayed in DPRK

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- The people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are vigorously advancing along the road of victory, overcoming the many-fold difficulties and trials in the revolutionary soldier spirit. The servicemen and people of Korea, with the spirit of devotedly guarding their leader, the spirit of thoroughly carrying out his instructions and the heroic self-sacrifice spirit, emerged victorious in the struggle for defending socialism, frustrating the persistent moves of the allied imperialist forces to stifle the DPRK and opened a broad avenue for building a great prosperous powerful nation during the "Arduous March" and forced march.
    The revolutionary soldier spirit has been created by the Korean servicemen who have taken after Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il in grit, will and courage.
    He has conducted energetic revolutionary activities, tirelessly inspecting KPA units and grand construction sites for the victory of the people's cause of independence and the socialist cause.
    In Juche 85 (1996) alone, he made 10,000-km-long tours for inspection of KPA units including the Panmunjom Mission in the frontline area.

    The Anbyon Youth Power Station and many other monumental edifices have been built by servicemen and people with this confidence and optimism.
    They have completed nearly 40,000 construction projects including 6,000-odd industrial establishments and 1,500-odd cultural facilities for seven years from the period of the "Arduous March".

Law against DPRK Adopted in Japan

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- The Japanese right-wing conservative forces committed such a crime as adopting a law calling for tight sanctions against the DPRK, according to a press report. The "law banning the portcall of specified foreign ships" was finally adopted at the meeting of the House of Councilors of Japan on June 14. This formally put the law into force.
    This once again clearly indicates that the Japanese right-wing conservative forces have never given up their foolish ambition to isolate and stifle the DPRK.

Meeting of Our Nation Opens

     Inchon, June 15 (KCNA correspondent ) -- The Meeting of Our Nation to mark the 4th anniversary of the publication of the historic June 15 joint declaration opened in Inchon Tuesday. Prior to the meeting there was a grand march for national reunification to implement the joint declaration and achieve national unity.
    Present at the meeting from the north side were delegates of different organizations including the Korean Social Democratic Party, the Chondoist Chongu Party, the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, the National Reconciliation Council, the North Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification, the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea, the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League and the Korean Council of Religionists.
    Present there from the south side were delegates of the Reunification Solidarity, the People's Council for National Reconciliation and Cooperation, Seven Orders, the Headquarters of the Movement of All Compatriots for Going Hand in Hand, the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the Federation of south Korean Trade Unions, the south Korean Council of Youth Organizations, the General Federation of Peasants' Associations, the Federation of Women's Organizations, and others.
    Also participating in the meeting were delegates of organizations of overseas Koreans from different countries including China, Japan, the U.S., Germany and Australia. After the meeting was declared open a flag of the meeting was hoisted amid the playing of the song Arirang.
    Kim Jong Ho, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of the Unions of Literature and the Arts of Korea, made a speech on behalf of the north side. He said it is the way of bringing earlier national harmony and unity to invariably uphold and implement the June 15 joint declaration in any storm and stress.
    In order to avert the danger of war to the Korean nation and defend peace, it is necessary to cherish the spirit that Korean nation is the best, not depending on others' strength, and build up its strength and national cooperation is the only way for this, he added.
    He called upon all Koreans to unite close, irrespective of idea, political view and religious belief, and turn out as one to achieve the sacred cause to bring the morning of reunification.
    Bishop of the Inchon Parish of Roman Catholicism Choe Ki San, permanent chairman of the Organizing Committee for the meeting of our nation, in a speech made on behalf of the south side called for putting an end to the bitter history in which the capacity and will of our nation have been ignored and the nation has undergone sufferings due to the division caused by big powers by informing the world that peace and reunification should be achieved according to the intention of the Korean nation through the unity of the Korean nation and the expanded cooperation between the north and the south. Ri Haeng U, chairman of the American Federation for Independence, Democracy and Reunification, in a speech made on behalf of the overseas side said that to implement the June 15 joint declaration leads to achieving national unity and establishing national identity and it represents a great advance in the national history of carving out the future of a reunified country.
    A declaration of great national unity read out at the meeting said that all the fellow countrymen would always unite in defending the existence of the nation and achieving peace of the country on the principle of national independence, the basic spirit of the joint declaration, irrespective of ideology and system in the efforts to achieve reunification.
    Representatives of the north and the south and overseas had sports and amusement games in the afternoon.
    A north-south art performance representing the pride of our nation was also given on the occasion.
    In the evening a banquet was given in the commemoration of the day.

     Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, received credentials from Willy C. Gaa, new Philippine ambassador e. p. to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on June 16. Present there were Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Yong Il and staff members of the Philippine embassy.
    After receiving credentials the president conversed with the ambassador.

Por motivo de Surinal (el 22 de junio), fiesta folclorica de la nacion coreana, el II Torneo Televisivo de Sirum de los Trabajadores por el Premio "Gran Toro" tendra lugar en el Estadio de Lucha Nacional en la colina Moran de esta capital.
    Al jugador quien ocupe el primer lugar se le otorgaran como premio un gran toro y una campanilla dorada.
    Desde la antiguedad, sirum era una disciplina de los juegos folcloricos. Segun los libros antiguos "Kyongdojapji" y "Tongguksesigi", en el periodo de Coguryo (antiguo Estado de Corea existido desde 277 a.n.e. hasta n.e. 668), esta disciplina deportiva fue conocida ampliamente no solo en el pais sino tambien en otros paises. Esto demuestra que sirum tiene larga historia.
    La "tumba de sirum" de Coguryo testimonia que desde la antiguedad este juego servia de una disciplina de competencia nacional que gano gran popularidad entre los habitantes.
    En ella hay una pintura que demuestra a dos hombres riniendose con mandibulas apoyadas en un hombro de su contraparte a la sombra de un arbol y a un viejo con baston en la mano fungiendo de arbitro del partido a su lado.
    En el periodo de la dinastia de los Ri esta disciplina deportiva aplico diversos metodos, habilidades y formas especificas.
    Sirum se practico usualmente en Surinal de mayo, Paekjungnal de julio y Hangawi de agosto, de calendario lunar.
    Es particularmente famosa la competencia de lucha en el Surinal.
    Ese dia, se desarrollaba la competencia de Sirum de gran envergadura y se le otorgaba un toro al ganador.
    Esta lucha cultiva la gran voluntad, paciencia e inteligencia, fomenta la fuerza de los brazos, las piernas y los musculos del vientre, y forja la robusteza fisica de las personas.

Actos festivos de organizaciones de masas

     Pyongyang, 16 de junio (ATCC) -- Con motivo del 40 aniversario del inicio del trabajo del Dirigente Kim Jong Il en el Comite Central del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, se efectuaron el dia 15 actos festivos de las organizaciones de masas. En los actos estuvieron presentes el secretario del CC del PTC Kim Jung Rin y otros funcionarios, cuadros de organizaciones de masas, obreros, miembros de la Federacion General de los Sindicatos de Corea (FGSC), jovenes, estudiantes y trabajadores agricolas.
    En el acto de los obreros y miembros de la FGSC, efectuado en la explanada frente al Monumento a la Fundacion del Partido, Ryom Sun Gil, presidente del CC de la FGSC, pronuncio un discurso festivo y otros intervinieron.
    Los oradores subrayaron que el inicio del trabajo del Dirigente Kim Jong Il en el CC del PTC constituye un evento historico de significado trascendental en el desarrollo de la Revolucion Coreana y apuntaron que desde aquel tiempo, se opero un nuevo cambio en la realizacion de la causa de construccion del partido revolucionario de tipo jucheano.
    Los obreros y los miembros de la FGSC, -prosiguieron- deben cumplir con la mision y el papel de vanguardia y encargado directo de la construccion de una gran potencia prospera. En el acto festivo de los jovenes estudiantiles efectuado frente a la estatua de bronce del Presidente Kim Il Sung en la Universidad homonima Kim Kyong Ho, primer secretario del CC de la Union de la Juventud Socialista Kim Il Sung, al pronunciar un discurso festivo, senalo que el 19 de junio del 53 (1964) de la Era Juche es la fecha de gran significado en la historia del PTC y la fecha de gran fortuna en que se prometio el futuro radiante de la patria y la nacion y subrayo la necesidad de llevar adelante las hazanas del Dirigente acumuladas en la construccion del partido y en la direccion del movimiento juvenil.

    Los oradores mencionaron que el Dirigente ha allanado un ancho camino para operar un nuevo viraje en la construccion rural socialista y en la produccion agricola y senalaron la necesidad de registrar un nuevo viraje en la produccion agricola, promover mas activamente el ordenamiento de la tierra y, al mismo tiempo, librar con dinamismo la lucha por transformar todas las aldeas en un paraiso del socialismo de conformidad con la construccion de una gran potencia prospera.

Tendra lugar Primera Competencia Internacional de Arte Marcial

     Pyongyang, 16 de junio (ATCC) -- Segun la resolucion de la III Asamblea General del Comite Internacional de Juegos de Arte Marcial, celebrada en Phnom Penh, la Primera Competencia Internacional de Arte Marcial tendra lugar del 15 al 20 de septiembre de 2004 en esta capital. El certamen se efectuara en diversas formas de festival de arte marcial, entre ellas, competencias por disciplinas de Taekwon-do, wushu, Karate, paduk, kick-boxing, aikido, jujutsu y lucha coreana, actuacion modelo y competencia ejemplar.
    Participaran mas de 600 jugadores de mas de 50 paises del planeta y vendran muchos turistas para verla.
    En las ceremonias de apertura y clausura, que tendran lugar en particulares formas, se presentara la famosa banda femenina de instrumentos de viento de Corea y se encendera el primer fuego historico en la torre de antorcha de arte marcial construida nuevamente.
    Bajo el apoyo activo del gobierno de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea se aceleran energicamente los preparativos para la competencia.
