Building of Apartment Houses for U.S. Troops in Ryongsan Base Lambasted
Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification in south Korea reportedly made public a statement titled "Vehemently denounce building of apartment houses for U.S. troops in Ryongsan base".
The statement said that it was recently disclosed that the south Korean authorities squandered a lot of funds amounting to 27.6 billion won with a view to building apartment houses for families of U.S. troops in Ryongsan base.
In February 2002 when announcing the plan for building Ryongsan apartment houses for U.S. troops, the Ministry of National Defense said the houses would be built with the U.S. budget, but now it stated the houses have been built with the budget for military construction out of the allotments of defense expenses, which betrayed what it deceived the people at that time, the statement pointed out.
The statement demanded that the U.S. and the south Korean government apologize for their wrong doings and renegotiate the transfer of the U.S. military base from Ryongsan.
Korean People's Struggle Supported in Various Countries
Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Meetings for solidarity with the Korean people were held in Pakistan and Tanzania on June 25 on the occasion of the June 25-July 27 month of an anti-US joint struggle.
Zabed Ansari, secretary general of the Karachi Branch of the Pakistan-Korea Friendship Association, said in his speech that President Kim Il Sung put forward policies for national reunification including the three principles of national reunification to achieve national reunification by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation free from the interference of the foreign forces.
He recalled that leader Kim Jong Il provided the historic north-south summit talks which culminated in the adoption of the June 15 joint declaration and thus opened up a bright prospect for the country's reunification. Korea's reunification will be achieved by him before long, he added.
Rashid Hussein Rabani, former member of the Upper House of Pakistan and general secretary of the Sind Provincial Committee of the Pakistan People's Party, said: The Songun politics of Kim Jong Il is always inflicting setback upon the U.S. hostile policy towards the DPRK and the Korean people have firmly defended the sovereignty of the nation and augmented the country's power in every way thanks to this politics.
He underscored the need for the developing countries to follow the politics of Kim Jong Il in order to achieve the world peace and stability and establish fair international relations.
Fancis F. Lyimo, vice-chairman of the Tanzania-DPRK Friendship Association, said that the Korean people under the leadership of Kim Jong Il have valued their sovereignty and dignity more than anything else. The progressive mankind is expressing full support and solidarity for the Korean people in their struggle to defend justice and sovereignty, he added.
A message to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting in Pakistan.
Korean documentary films "'Iron-Ranks, Korean People's Army" and "Panmunjom" were shown at Leoncio Prado Military School of Peru on June 28.
Prospect of Six-Party Talks to Depend on U.S. Attitude
Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- The U.S. should sincerely accept the DPRK's proposal of "reward for freeze" as it is the most realistic one to break the present deadlock caused by differing stands, mutual mistrust and differences in the mode of thinking between the DPRK and the U.S. over the nuclear issue and stop demanding the DPRK scrap its "nuclear program" first and stop opting to apply to the DPRK the same "method" it applied to other country, urges Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in a signed commentary.
The overall review of the recent six-party talks showed that although various proposals and suggestions were made and the talks proceeded in a sincere atmosphere and some elements helpful to the talks' progress were found, no substantial success was made in the efforts to make a breakthrough toward the settlement of the nuclear issue as the DPRK and the U.S. failed to wipe out the bilateral mistrust and misunderstanding, the commentary says, and goes on:
It was fortunate and noteworthy that the U.S. accepted the principle of "words for words" and "action for action" as requested by the DPRK, not mentioning the "CVID," though it had persistently insisted on it at the previous talks from an insincere stand.
A scrutiny into the U.S. "proposal" made at the recent talks, however, suggests that it is still asserting that the DPRK should dismantle its "nuclear program" first and insisting on the CVID. Its "proposal" means that it would discuss what it should do only when the DPRK has completely dismantled its nuclear weapons in a unilateral manner. This is, in essence, little different from the above-said demand raised by the U.S. to the DPRK so far over the nuclear issue.
The so-called "landmark proposal" made by the U.S. is an unfair one as it lacks any commitment to observe the principle of "words for words" and "action for action." Particularly, it advanced the "three-month period for preparations" for the dismantlement of nuclear facilities which is nothing but a far-fetched assertion lacking scientific and realistic nature. This was what the U.S. side used to disarm a country in Mideast last year.
The U.S. is mistaken if it seeks to get something from the DPRK by applying to the DPRK the same method it applied to other country. If the U.S. seriously examines the DPRK's proposal and commits itself to renounce its hostile policy toward the DPRK and opts to make reward for freeze on the principle of "words for words" and "action for action," that will serve both the purpose of settling the nuclear issue and the interests of the U.S.
The progress of the talks and the prospect of the solution to the issue will depend on the U.S. attitude.

Among the audience were senior party, state and army officials including Kim Yong Nam, Kim Il Chol, Jon Pyong Ho and Choe Thae Bok.

Oratorical Meeting of Young Servicepersons Held
Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- An oratorical meeting of young soldiers of the Korean People's Army (KPA) was held Tuesday before the statue of Generalissimo Kim Il Sung at Kim Il Sung Political University on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his demise.
Prior to the meeting the participants laid floral baskets and bouquets before the statue and paid homage to him in humble reverence.
Young soldiers took the floor under the respective titles "May the Eternal Tower Shine," "Our Immortal Father" and "Pledge Made by the Army in July."
They recalled that the tower of immortality bearing the slogan "The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung will always be with us" was erected in Korea of Juche to stand imposingly in the 90s when the red flags of the revolution were pulled down overnight and monuments to revolutionary leaders were vandalized by moves of renegades of socialism in different countries.
Thanks to Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il, Kim Il Sung will always remain alive as the sun of humankind, they stressed.
Saying that they remember with deep emotion the whole life of the generalissimo, who devoted himself to the KPA soldiers covering more than 182,668 kms for field guidance from the day of the country's liberation to the last moments of his life, they emphasized that Kim Il Sung will always remain the real father of the soldiers.
