Joint Appeal for World Conference Supported

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- The Asian Regional Committee to Support Korea's Reunification, the Indian Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification and the All India Indo-Korean Friendship Association issued a joint statement on July 23 in support of the joint appeal made by the International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea, the Eastern European Centre for the Support and Solidarity to the DPRK and the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee to Support the Reunification of Korea calling for a world conference supporting the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea. The joint statement said:
    The world conference to be held at a time when the U.S. imperialists have become evermore undisguised in their moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK would greatly encourage the Korean people in their efforts to implement the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration provided by leader Kim Jong Il.
    It expressed belief that the conference would offer an opportunity of lifting the voices of support and solidarity for the Korean people in their struggle to bring earlier the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea, their unanimous desire, and putting the international pressure upon the U.S. to give up its hostile policy and war policy towards the DPRK and let the Korean people solve the issue of Korean reunification by themselves.
    It appealed to the friendship and solidarity bodies, organizations and national organizations in Asia to take various measures in support of this.
    The statement pointed out that they would actively take part in making preparations for the conference and do all they can for its success.

War Victory Day Celebrated Abroad

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- A rally, lectures and a film show were held in Peru, Nigeria, Democratic Congo and Switzerland from July 21 to 23 to mark the 51st anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War. Peruvian figures including the chairman of the Peruvian Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, the general secretary of the Peruvian Nationalist Party of the Andean Community and the chairman of the People's Front of Workers, Peasants and Students of Peru in their speeches at the rally said the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War was of enormous world-historic significance and this victory shattered the myth of the U.S. being the "strongest" in the world and ushered in the history of its shameful defeat.
    The great victory was the fruition of the outstanding leadership of President Kim Il Sung, a genius of military affairs, who began the revolution with the building of true revolutionary armed forces of the people, they said.
    They noted that the wise Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il has frustrated the desperate moves of the U.S. imperialists at every step and guaranteed the triumphant advance of the socialist cause of Korea and the human cause of independence.
    The chairman of the Group for the Study of the Juche Idea of University of Kinshasa of Democratic Congo in his special lecture said the Korean war was the war in which the U.S. was defeated for the first time in history by the preeminent Juche-oriented war method of Kim Il Sung.
    He stressed that Kim Jong Il's great Songun idea representing the 21st century became a publicly recognized international trend of thought for its validity and vitality and it was an irresistible current of history to advance along the road of Songun.

Seminar on Kim Jong Il's Work

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- A national seminar was held at the People's Palace of Culture Thursday to mark the 30th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's August 2 work. Kim Jong Il made public the historical work on August 2, Juche 63 (1974), to fundamentally improve and strengthen the party's work as required by the developing revolution and thereby indicated the way of building a revolutionary party in the present era, ushered in a new history of revolutionary turn in accomplishing the leader's cause of party building and developed the Workers' Party of Korea as the glorious Party of Kim Il Sung with his experienced and tested leadership.
    Read at the seminar were six papers explaining and proving the brilliant feats of Kim Jong Il in party building.
    The papers said the work was a great program of party building indicating anew the general target and basic principle of the building of a revolutionary party in the present era and an imperishable militant banner clearly showing the way for a revolutionary party to fulfill its mission and role.
    They elaborated on the greatness of leadership of Kim Jong Il who trained the party ranks into ranks devotedly defending the leader.
    Kim Jong Il in the work gave a comprehensive elucidation of the general task and questions of principle in the Party's work among the masses, they said.
    The immortal exploits of Kim Jong Il in strengthening the WPK into a great party leading the cause of Songun by effecting a revolutionary turn in its organizational building are that he set forth the Songun idea and line as the leading guideline for party building and its activities and trained the party ranks into an elite to suit the demand of the Songun era, they noted.
    They called on all the officials to hold fast to the idea and theory clarified in the work and thoroughly prepare themselves as officials chalking up good records with a steadfast outlook on the leader and Juche-based outlook on the people and thus fulfill their duties as soldiers of Kim Jong Il.
    Present at the seminar were Choe Thae Bok and Jong Ha Chol, secretaries of the Central Committee of the WPK, and officials concerned.

Declaration of Disarmament Announced in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- 43 civic and public organizations of south Korea made public a declaration of disarmament for peace on July 26. Their representatives held a press conference regarding the declaration of disarmament in Seoul on the same day.
    At the press conference Permanent Representative of the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification Hong Kun Su, Co-Representative of the Confederation of Public Health and Medical Organizations Jong Song Hun and other speakers said that reckless arms buildup not only threatens peace but worsens the livelihood of the people. They castigated the U.S. for beefing up its military power in the Korean peninsula under the signboard of "modernization of south Korea-U.S. alliance".
    Read out at the press conference was a ten-point declaration urging the U.S. to approach a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue of the north and officially withdraw its strategy for a preemptive attack on the north and the authorities to stop increasing defense expenditure and combat power and dismantle the legal and structural mechanism promoting south-north confrontation.

U.S. Accused of Passing Bill on Human Rights of North Korea

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- Minjok Thongsin of south Korea ran a commentary on July 23, condemning the U.S. for passing a bill on human rights of north Korea through the House of Representatives on July 21. The commentary said that the bill, in a word, contains a sinister intention to interfere in the internal affairs of the north and impair its sovereignty under the cloak of human rights and freedom and the bill was faked up by the U.S. ultra right conservatives from the outset.
    It is important for the compatriots in the south and north and overseas to pool their efforts to conduct a powerful campaign for rejecting the anti-human rights bill.

Foot March in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- The People's Action against Troop Dispatch, the Citizens' Solidarity for Probe into the Truth behind the Forced Mobilization and other organizations in south Korea reportedly held a ceremony for the start of the national foot march group against troop dispatch to Iraq in Pusan on July 24. A joint statement read out at the ceremony said: Upon whom do they want to impose such horrible disaster of war? We, victims of war, cannot send young people of south Korea to ravages. We will surely check the troop dispatch to Iraq.
    After the ceremony the march group marched together with about 100 youth and students.
    Meanwhile, Choe Yong Sun, chairwoman of the south Korean Council of Girl Student Representatives, made public an appeal titled "Let's devote all our energies to the struggle for withdrawal of the decision on troop dispatch to Iraq" on July 27.
    The appeal said that the struggle for withdrawal of the decision is the struggle to break up the humiliating south Korea-U.S. alliance and build an independent society free from U.S. troops, not merely to block troop dispatch. It stressed that the organization should stand in the van of the struggle.

Reception Given by Swiss Resident Coordinator

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- Ueli Muller, resident coordinator of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in Pyongyang, gave a reception Thursday on the occasion of the national day of Switzerland. Present on invitation were officials concerned, diplomatic envoys of different countries and representatives of international organizations here.

Anniversary of Promulgation of Law on Sex Equality Observed

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- Papers Friday dedicate editorials to the 58th anniversary of the promulgation of the law on sex equality. Rodong Sinmun says that the Korean women are proud of having led a worthy life generation after generation under the care of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il.
    The promulgation of the law on July 30, Juche 35 (1946) freed the Korean women from all sorts of age-old fetters and social inequality and enabled them to devote all their wisdom and energies to the drive to glorify the country, the homeland with the equal rights with men, the paper notes, and goes on:
    Kim Jong Il's 40-year-long history of guidance to the Workers' Party of Korea and revolution is associated with his tireless efforts to lead the women to perform their honorable mission and role as powerful ranks rolling one of the two wheels of revolution.
    History knows no other women but the women in the Songun era who have so fully displayed the indomitable revolutionary spirit of devotedly defending the leader and such ardent love for the country and patriotic devotion.
    The Korean women are the ranks of loyalists true to the WPK's idea of attaching importance to the army, a powerful contingent performing heroic exploits in the worthwhile drive to build a great prosperous powerful nation and a proud unit keeping the traditional trait of assisting the army in full bloom.
    The paper calls upon the women to demonstrate to the full the revolutionary spirit of the Korean women in carrying out the Songun cause of the WPK.

U.S.-led Coalition Forces on Eve of Collapse - KCNA News Analyst's Article -

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- As already reported, the Philippines finished the withdrawal of its troops from Iraq on July 19. It brought to five those nations which completed the pullback of their troops from Iraq. Spain, Honduras, Nicaragua and Dominica already withdrew their troops from the country.
    After occupying Iraq in April last year, the U.S. had suffered from a shortage of forces. So it could not but entreat the United Nations for support. It raised a "compromise proposal" for replacing the U.S.-led occupation forces with multinational forces for the stability of Iraq and letting the United Nations play a leading role in the Iraqi issue and had it adopted by a narrow margin as a resolution of the UN Security Council in last October.
    With anti-U.S. and anti-war sentiments growing stronger in the world, Spain announced its decision on its troop pullback from Iraq on April 18, prompting other nations to withdraw or reduce their troops from the country.
    According to the Washington Post July 15, Estonia, New Zealand, Norway and Thailand are now planning to get their troops out of Iraq.
    Portugal stated that it would keep its troops in Iraq only until November this year. On July 18, Poland announced that it would considerably reduce its troops in Iraq from the beginning of next year.
    Meanwhile, Singapore, Moldova and other nations have taken steps to diminish their troops in the Middle East country.
    It is the view of foreign media that the coalition forces are now on the eve of collapse. The situation is a result of the Bush Administration's unilateral policy of aggression.

S. Korean Authorities' Abduction under Fire

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the DPRK Association for Human Rights Studies released a statement Friday accusing the south Korean ruling forces of pulling up the north over what they called "human right issue" in a bid to politicize and internationalize the issue of "defectors from the north." Referring to the fact that the south Korean authorities took hundreds of so-called "defectors from the north" to south Korea from a third country and right after the action the "Uri Party" of south Korea came out with a plan to improve the settlement of those defectors from the north in south Korea, the statement noted:
    This is a wanton challenge to the June 15 joint declaration, an open negation of the system in the north and an unpardonable anti-national criminal move to drive the inter-Korean relations to an unpredictable worst phase.
    The issue of "defectors from the north" much touted by the south Korean ruling and right-wing conservative forces is a product of the U.S. campaign to tarnish the international authority and prestige of the dignified DPRK and destabilize its system to intents and purposes.
    The U.S., finding it impossible to stifle the DPRK with such physical means as military threat, blackmail, economic sanctions and blockade, expended a lot of money and goods for such a mean operation as cooking up "the issue of defectors from the north" through allurement and abduction in a bid to use it as a main card for pursuing its hostile policy toward the DPRK.
    The U.S. recently passed the "bill on the human rights in north Korea" through its House of Representatives in a bid to provide a guarantee for rendering the human right issue in the DPRK such as "the issue of defectors from the north," etc. extremely serious.
    However, the south Korean authorities are joining the U.S. and ultra-right conservative forces in south Korea in the anti-DPRK campaign for confrontation, while undisguisedly alluring and abducting "defectors from the north". These acts cannot be construed otherwise than deliberate moves to downplay the precious achievements made in the efforts to achieve national unity and reunification for the last four years since the publication of the joint declaration and bring the inter-Korean relations back to the phase of confrontation.
    By alluring and abducting a group of northerners to south Korea its authorities forced many people in the north to live separated from them.
    This is an anti-national, unethical crime as their action produced more "divided families" in the era after the publication of the joint declaration. The association bitterly condemns the above-said crime committed by the south Korean authorities together with other dishonest forces in south Korea, backed by the U.S., as an open international terrorism and an unpardonable human rights abuse.
    The abductors can never escape from punishment.
    The south Korean authorities will be held entirely accountable for the serious consequences to be entailed by the recent massive allurement and abduction of fellow countrymen in the north.

Designation of Hanchong as Enemy-Benefiting Organization Condemned

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities designated the south Korean Council of Youth Organizations (Hanchong) as an enemy-benefiting organization and sentenced its chairman to two years' imprisonment and two years' suspension of qualification and its vice-chairman and executive chairman respectively to one and a half years' imprisonment, one year's suspension of qualification and three years' stay of execution in a trial on July 20. In this regard, the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League and the North Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification Friday issued a joint statement to brand the south Korean authorities' suppression as an anti-national and anti-reunification gangster act of dampening the will of the south Korean youth and students for social democracy and independent national reunification and openly challenging the advance of the 70 million fellow countrymen toward independent reunification and denounce it in the name of all the youth and students in the north.
    The joint statement said:
    The south Korean authorities committed such a fascist suppression for the mere reason that the organization introduced the Songun policy of the north.
    It is natural to anybody who wants peace and reunification of the country to follow and introduce the Songun policy which not only defends peace and welfare of the Korean nation from the nuclear war provocation moves of foreign forces but also guarantees the co-prosperity of the Korean nation by military power.
    Suppression of youth organizations of the reunification movement and their core elements on the strength of the "Security Law" and slandering the dignified political system of the north are an expression of a sinister intention to deny the June 15 joint declaration and lead inter-Korean relations back to distrust and confrontation.
    However hard the south Korean authorities may try to crack down upon youths on the strength of the "Security Law" they can never stop their mindset from supporting and following the Songun politics and the movement for independent national reunification of fellow countrymen advancing thanks to the might of Songun is sure to triumph.
    The south Korean authorities should squarely look at the trend of the time, abolish the SL, an evil law of the old era, withdraw the designation of pro-reunification patriotic organizations as "enemy-benefiting organizations" and unconditionally set free those pro-reunification patriotic figures and youth and students unreasonably arrested.

Games for "Jonsung Cup" Held

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- The games for "Jonsung Cup" were held in Pyongyang, Wonsan, Nampho and other cities on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War. The players competed in swimming, yacht race, synchronized swimming, water skiing, water polo, diving and other maritime sports events.
    The April 25 sports group came first in diving, the sports group of the Ministry of Fisheries in water polo and swimming and the sports group of the Ministry of Land and Marine Transport in boat and canoe races.

Kim Jong Il Enjoys Art Performance

     Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, enjoyed an art performance given by the itinerant youth art troupe of the KPA. Among the audience were Kim Yong Chun, member of the NDC of the DPRK and chief of the General Staff of the KPA, Kim Kuk Thae and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the C.C., WPK, and other senior officials of the Party and the army.
    The troupe put on the stage chorus "Peerless Patriot General Kim Jong Il", revolutionary anecdote telling "Our Father Is the Best", male solo "My Blessed Life" and other colorful numbers of various genres.
    Through its performance replete with militant spirit and revolutionary enthusiasm, the troupe successfully represented the invincible might of the KPA which has grown to be a matchless army under the loving care of the great illustrious commander and the fixed faith and will of the servicepersons to devotedly defend the headquarters of the revolution and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche with arms under his commandership.
    He congratulated the troupe on its success, greatly satisfied with its art presentation high in militant spirit, strong in appeal and great in influence and attraction.

Kim Jong Il inspecciona subunidad de Unidad No. 821 de EPC

     Pyongyang, 30 de julio (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il, Secretario General del Partido del Trabajo de Corea, Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y Comandante Supremo del Ejercito Popular de Corea inspecciono una subunidad de la Unidad No. 821 del EPC en la zona del frente. Le acogieron en el mismo lugar los jefes de la Unidad y la subunidad.
    El Comandante Supremo, luego de escuchar un parte de recibimiento se informo de la situacion por parte del jefe de la Unidad en el puesto avanzado del mando situado en la cima de la cota. Se mostro muy satisfecho de que los militares de la Unidad se armaron firmemente con los metodos de combate militar autoctonos del PTC y, con el noble patriotismo de defender firmemente con las fuerzas armadas la patria socialista y con la implacable enemistad a los agresores yanquis, consolidaron la zona de defensa como un baluarte inexpugnable.Vio un entrenamiento de manejo de canones de los militares.
    Se mostro muy complacido de que todos los militares de la subunidad han crecido como valientes combatientes capaces de aniquilar a solas a cien enemigos y listos a rechazar de un golpe a cualquier agresion de los enemigos e indico las tareas programaticas que sirven de guia para fortalecer por todos los medios la combatividad de la unidad.
    Evaluo altamente los exitos de lucha de los militares logrados al cabo de ingentes esfuerzos por hacer perfectos los preparativos de combate y, al senalar que la clave en la preparacion de todos los oficiales y soldados como combatientes capaces de aniquilar a solas a cien enemigos es intensificar el entrenamiento, destaco que se debe prestar primordial atencion a la labor para materializar cabalmente la orientacion del partido en materia de ejercicios.
    Acto seguido, recorrio la sala de educacion, el dormitorio, el comedor, la cocina, el bano, las parcelas de verduras y otros varios lugares para prodigar profunda atencion a la labor y la vida de los militares.
    Se mostro muy satisfecho de que los oficiales y soldados de la subunidad, al aplicar estrictamente el metodo de administracion de la unidad a estilo de la guerrilla antijaponesa, acondicionaron excelentemente el interior y exterior del cuartel y dispusieron bien de instalaciones de cultura, educacion e intendencia.
    El Comandante Supremo, en un encuentro con los jefes de la unidad, hizo conocimiento detallado de la produccion de autoconsumo de este ano y, al senalar que para mejorar de continuo la labor de abastecimiento a los soldados es muy importante el rol de los directivos, indico minuciosamente los metodos para ese particular.
    Presencio personalmente un encuentro de felicitacion a los militares destacados en el lugar de descanso al aire libre.
    Dio como recuerdo binoculos y fusil automatico a los militares de la subunidad y se fotografio junto a estos.
    Le acompanaron Hyon Chol Hae y Pak Jae Gyong, generales de ejercito del EPC y Ri Yong Chol, miembro de la Comision Militar Central y primer subjefe de departamento del CC, del PTC.

Responden a convocatoria a conferencia mundial

     Pyongyang, 30 de julio (ATCC) -- En apoyo al llamamiento conjunto del Comite Internacional de Enlace por la Reunificacion y la Paz en Corea (CIERECO), el Centro de Europa Oriental de Apoyo y Solidaridad con la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y el Comite Regional de America Latina y el Caribe de Apoyo a la Reunificacion de Corea, el Comite Regional de Asia de Apoyo a la Reunificacion de Corea, el Comite de India de Apoyo a la Reunificacion de Corea y la Asociacion de Amistad India-Corea de Toda la India publicaron el dia 23 una declaracion conjunta. El documento senala que la efectuacion de la conferencia mundial de apoyo a la reunificacion independiente y pacifica de Corea en el periodo en que se recrudecen mas que nunca las maniobras de EE.UU. dirigidas a aislar y aplastar a la RPDC constituira un potente estimulo al pueblo coreano enfrascado unanimemente en la lucha por materializar la Declaracion Conjunta Norte-Sur del 15 de Junio preparada por Su Excelencia el gran Dirigente Kim Jong Il. Expresa conviccion de que dicha conferencia servira de una ocasion para elevar mas las voces de apoyo y solidaridad que abogan por adelantar la reunificacion independiente y pacifica de Corea, unanime anhelo del pueblo coreano y ejercer presion internacional sobre EE.UU. a que abandone su politica de hostilidad a Corea y su politica belica y que el mismo pueblo coreano se encargue de la causa de la reunificacion de su pais. Exhorta a las organizaciones de amistad y solidaridad y entidades nacionales de Asia a tomar diversas medidas para apoyar la convocatoria.
