Plan to Erect Monument to War in S. Korea under Fire
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The south Korean military recently staged a farce to erect a "monument to the Korean War" on Wolmi Islet as part of its commemoration of the U.S. Inchon landing operation during the war.
Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed commentary observes that this criminal plan lashes all the Koreans into fury as it openly indicates the south Korean military authorities' intention to go in for war against reunification pursuant to the U.S. policy of hindering the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration.
The commentary goes on:
U.S. conservative hardliners are grumbling that the war hard fought by the U.S. forces is being buried into oblivion in south Korea. The pro-U.S. conservative forces in south Korea conceived the idea of erecting the monument as a last resort and through this they seek to create impression that they do not forget the solicitude shown by the U.S. but set store by the alliance with the U.S. in a bid to relieve it of its "damaged feelings."
The south Korean military's recent farce to erect the monument is an act going against the history as it tampers with the truth of the war of aggression committed by the U.S. imperialists against Korea more than 50 years ago and an anti-national criminal act intended to bring confrontation and war to this land again swimming against the trend of the nation's history.
The commentary urges the anti-reunification forces of the south Korean military to bear deep in mind that the war moves to incite confrontation with the DPRK are intolerable as they go against the era of reunification after the publication of the joint declaration and are intended to quell the nation's desire for independent reunification and that is little short of a suicidal act.
Rally to Vow Anti-U.S. Struggle Held in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The Reunification Solidarity, the Phyongthaek Measure Committee against Expansion of U.S. Military Base and the 2004 Reunification Vanguard for the Withdrawal of Decision on Troop Dispatch to Iraq and National Cooperation against the U.S. reportedly co-sponsored a rally to vow to fight against the transfer of the U.S. military base to Phyongthaek and its expansion and for a stop to the nuclear war plot on the Korean peninsula and relocation of the U.S. forces and the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea on August 8 in Phaengsong township, Phyongthaek, Kyonggi Province of south Korea.
Han Sang Ryol, permanent representative of the Reunification Solidarity, in his speech called for driving out the U.S. which menaces peace and achieving independent reunification.
Ri Kyu Jae, vice-chairman of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, strongly demanded the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea, saying national cooperation is the only way out for the Korean nation.
A letter to the U.S. forces' side was read out at the rally.
At the end of the rally the protesters marched toward the nearby U.S. military base, shouting slogans opposing the transfer of the U.S. military base and its expansion and demanding the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea.
Reaching the U.S. military base, they demanded the U.S. forces' side take over the letter.
When the latter refused this, they read out the letter toward the base and burnt it in token of protest.
Meeting and Demonstration Held in U.S.
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- A meeting and demonstration of Koreans in the U.S. were reportedly held in front of the south Korean embassy in the U.S. on August 5 in protest against the south Korean authorities' troop dispatch to Iraq. They were sponsored by the Washington Solidarity for Stop to Iraqi War and Withdrawal of Decision on Troop Dispatch.
The meeting released a joint statement of over 30 social organizations of Koreans in the U.S., organizations for the peace movement against war and progressive movement organizations in the U.S.
The statement recalled that people from all walks of life in south Korea including workers, peasants, students, religionists, artistes, politicians are out in the struggle against troop dispatch to Iraq and not only the public in the U.S. but the international community are putting pressure upon the Bush administration to pull all its forces out of Iraq at an early date.
Bush is, however, perpetuating the U.S. military presence in Iraq and mounting ceaseless attacks on it while the south Korean "government" dispatched additional troops to Iraq despite actions of people from all walks of life against it, it noted.
Koreans and organizations for peace against war and progressive movements in the U.S. have launched the struggle against the Iraqi war and for the withdrawal of the decision on troop dispatch against this backdrop, it said, declaring that they would carry on the just struggle to check the troop dispatch which invites death and protects independence and peace till the day of its victory.
At the end of the meeting the participants staged a demonstration in protest against the dispatch of south Korean troops to Iraq and in demand of the pullback of foreign forces from Iraq. Demonstrations will reportedly take place in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and other regions in the future.
Adventurous War Scenario against DPRK under Fire
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) --Spokesmen for the Central Committees of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League and the Union of Agricultural Workers of Korea separately issued statements on August 11 denouncing the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean military for working out "operation plan 5027-04,"a new adventurous war scenario against the north, in a bid to intensify their war moves against it.
The spokesman for the Central Committee of the league said the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean bellicose forces in the operation plan disclosed that they would "encircle and occupy" Pyongyang, the heart of socialist Korea, and plan to stage "Ulji Focus Lens-04" joint military exercise to mount a preemptive attack on the DPRK.
The reality goes to prove once again that the U.S. is the harasser of peace, a source of war and the enemy of reunification and it is the only way of protecting the dignity, sovereignty and the right to existence of the nation and achieving peace and reunification to counter the U.S. imperialists' hard line with the toughest stand, he stressed.
The spokesman for the Central Committee of the union stated that even if the U.S. steps up the arms build-up and stages frequent war exercises against the DPRK and puts military pressure upon it after working out a war scenario more dangerous than the "operation plan 5027-04" they can neither frighten nor invade the DPRK as long as it holds the great brilliant commander, guided by the idea of Songun, and has matchless Songun army capable of beating back any aggression at a single stroke and the unity of the army and people in mind more powerful than a nuclear weapon.
If the U.S. imperialists ignite a new war despite the repeated warnings of the DPRK, it will never miss the golden chance to wipe out the U.S. imperialist aggressors to the last one with their pent-up wrath and resentment and the determination to take revenge upon them that has grown strong generation after generation, he stressed.

Film Show at Ministry of Foreign Trade
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Ministry of Foreign Trade arranged a film show at the Taedonggang Club for the Diplomatic Corps on August 11 on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the liberation of the country.
Present on invitation were members of the foreign economic and commercial counselors' corps here. And officials concerned were together with them.
The participants appreciated Part 20 of the Korean documentary film "For the Liberation of the Motherland" recording historical data on the fact that President Kim Il Sung accomplished the historic cause of the country's liberation by triumphantly commanding the final offensive operation to wipe out the Japanese imperialist aggressors and wisely led the work for building a new country.
Dangerous War Scheme against DPRK Lambasted
Pyongyang, August 12 (KCNA) -- The south Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command" recently announced that the Ulji Focus Lens-04 joint military exercises will involve U.S. units present in south Korea, south Korean troops and part of the U.S. units overseas.
Commenting on this, Minju Joson Thursday says:
The command is advertising that the war game is an annual joint rehearsal aimed to assess and improve the process of the performance of joint actions.
But it is another challenge to the DPRK which is making every possible effort to achieve peace and reunification of the country.
The danger of the joint war game is brought into bolder relief by the fact that it is to be staged at a time when the relocation of the U.S. forces in south Korea to the south of the River Han has entered the practical stage and arms buildup is being pushed forward with extra zeal under the pretext of "filling up the vacuum".
The U.S. strategy of preemptive attack on the DPRK is to deploy its troops in south Korea out of the range of the retaliatory strike of the DPRK and arm them with latest types of means of war to increase their maneuverability and strike power, conclude the war by blitz warfare through surprise attacks from the sky and sea and thus realize their designs of aggression.
The projected rehearsal is not merely a repetition of the annual one but war maneuvers to round off the preparations for a preemptive attack on the DPRK.
Needless to say, the exercises will create grave obstacles and difficulties in the development of the inter-Korean relations and the process of reconciliation.
It is an anti-national act of trampling underfoot the spirit of the north-south joint declaration that the south Korean authorities are going to stage the war maneuvers against the north together with the United States.
The U.S. imperialist aggression forces and the south Korean bellicose forces would be well advised to stop acting rashly, facing up to the revolutionary will of the army and people of the DPRK.
