DPRK Foreign Ministry Spokesman Blasts Bush's Reckless Remarks

     Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK gave the following answer to the question put by KCNA Monday as regards the recent vituperation let loose by U.S. President Bush against the supreme headquarters of the DPRK: Bush during his recent election campaign in Wisconsin State again let loose such outbursts as hurling malignant slanders and calumnies at the supreme headquarters of the DPRK. He asserted that it is necessary for the U.S., China, Japan, south Korea and Russia to unite and they are urging "the tyrant" to disarm himself.
    This can not be construed as remarks made by a politician with sound reason and sensibility to reality but as a base tongue-lashing that can be made only by the stupid.
    Bush who styles himself president of a super power went the lengths of decrying the supreme headquarters of a sovereign state and saying this or that of it unbecoming for his position. This clearly proves that the DPRK was quite right when it commented that he is a political imbecile bereft of even elementary morality as a human being and a bad guy, much less being a politician.
    It was none other than Bush who started wars in Iraq and other parts of the world to commit genocide as he pleases.
    Bush's assumption of office turned a peaceful world into a pandemonium unprecedented in history as it is plagued with a vicious circle of terrorism and war.
    Bush is a tyrant that puts Hitler into the shade and his group of such tyrants is a typical gang of political gangsters.
    It is, therefore, by no means fortuitous that Bush is ridiculed and censured as an idiot, an ignorant, a tyrant and a man-killer not only in the U.S. but in various parts of the world.
    Bush's recent remarks openly demanding the DPRK to disarm itself clearly indicate that his utterances that the U.S. has no intention to invade north Korea and it would never attack north Korea are nothing but a gimmick as they are hypocrisy and a deceptive artifice to fool the world public.
    He, in the final analysis, clearly disclosed that it is the real intention of the U.S. to bring down the system in the DPRK by force though everything in the world may change.
    Bush's assertion that the U.S. is demanding the DPRK disarm itself in unity with other countries participating in the six-party talks once again discloses the real aim sought by the U.S. in the framework of the talks.
    The meeting of the working group for the six-party talks can not be opened because the U.S. has become more undisguised in pursuing its hostile policy towards the DPRK, backtracking from all agreements and common understanding reached at the third round of the six-party talks.
    The Bush group has betrayed its true colors once again though it is directly responsible for properly laying a foundation for the talks. This made it quite impossible for the DPRK to go to the talks and deprived it of any elementary justification to sit at the negotiating table with the U.S.
    The reality today substantially convinces the army and people of the DPRK that the Songun policy of the Workers' Party of Korea is entirely just and heightens their faith and confidence in it.
    No one can and will replace them in defending the country and the nation and Korean style socialism.
    The DPRK will increase thousand times its capability for self defense, the people's life and sole, to frustrate the extremely escalating moves of the U.S. to isolate and stifle it.

Murderous Suppression Denounced

     Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions reportedly issued a statement on August 18 denouncing the murderous police crackdown on workers. Recalling that armed police on August 17 surprised and committed indiscriminate crackdown on more than 3,000 workers when they were having lunch in front of a company building in Phohang prior to a rally of the confederation for the right to existence, the statement said it could no but express shock and consternation.
    After brutally repressing the defenseless workers, the police authorities threw an armed force into a savage crackdown when the workers were holding the rally, said the statement.
    Such violence of the police, the statement continued, clearly proved that the policy of the authorities toward the part-time workers was a policy of throttling workers.
    It demanded that the authorities immediately arrest and punish the police officers who committed the ruthless suppression in Phohang, release the arrested workers at once and stop crackdown.

Military Drill Announced in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The metropolitan defense command of the south Korean army announced that a military drill codenamed "Hwarang" involving civilians, government officials and army would be staged from Aug. 23 to 27, according to south Korean MBC. As a part of the exercise, "a drill to cope with terrorism using chemical and biological weapons" is expected around the Socho District Office and Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul on Aug. 25 with a chemical battalion under the command, police and firemen participating.
    The south Korean warhawks are seeking to foster the atmosphere of confrontation with the new war drill coinciding with the start of the "Ulji Focus Lens-04" joint military exercises by the U.S. imperialists.

Motion on Repeal of SL to Be Brought to Assembly

     Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- More than 80 assemblymen from ruling and opposition parties such as the Uri Party and the Democratic Workers' Party called a press conference at the National Assembly building on August 20 and announced their decision to bring a motion on the abrogation of the "Security Law" before a regular NA session next month, KBS of south Korea reported. Recalling that the SL has remained a draconic law for scores of years, they said it was reasonable to tear it up.
    They declared they would launch into a NA signature campaign for the repeal of the evil law on August 21.

DPRK Players Prove Successful at 28th Olympic Games

     Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- DPRK table-tennis player Kim Hyang Mi finished second in the women's singles and Kim Jong Su came third in the finals of the men's 50m free pistol shooting event at the 28th Olympic Games in Athens. Kim Hyang Mi beat Hungarian 4:1, her Romanian rival, winner in the Europe Table-Tennis Championships, 4:2 and her Chinese rival 4:0 in the preliminary contests. On August 19 and 21 she trounced Singaporeans 4:2 and 4:3 in the quarter-finals and the semi-finals each before advancing into the finals.
    Kim came second in the finals of the women's table-tennis singles on August 22.
    On August 17 Kim Jong Su came third in the finals of the men's 50m free pistol shooting event.

Rodong Sinmun on Independent Reunification

     Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Today the will and desire of the Korean nation for independent reunification have exceptionally increased with the advent of the era of independent national reunification. With nothing can their will and desire be checked and frustrated, Rodong Sinmun Monday stresses in a signed article. It goes on:
    The historic June 15 joint declaration solemnly clarified at home and abroad that the reunification of the country would be achieved independently by the united efforts of the Korean nation responsible for it. This reflected the unanimous aspiration and will of all the Koreans to reunify the country by the nation itself, rejecting any domination and intervention of outside forces.
    Independent reunification can only be achieved by the struggle to smash the outside forces' moves for aggression, domination, interference and obstructions. The idea of "By our nation itself," the core of the June 15 joint declaration, exceptionally enhanced all Koreans' consciousness of national independence and rapidly fanned up the anti-U.S. atmosphere nationwide. The south Korean people have vigorously turned out in the struggle against the U.S. that is running amuck to stifle the fellow countrymen in the north and bring a disaster of a nuclear war to the Korean nation and interfering in and hindering the issues of north-south relations such as north-south cooperation and exchange. This is the offspring of the unprecedentedly enhanced consciousness of national independence and desire for independent reunification after the historic Pyongyang meeting and the publication of the June 15 joint declaration.
    It is the realistic task for implementing the cause of national reunification to further strengthen national cooperation and continue to develop national reconciliation, cooperation and the movement for independent reunification.
    All the Koreans should firmly unite and resolutely conduct a nationwide struggle to check and frustrate the maneuvers of the outside forces and anti-reunification forces.
    The whole Korean nation should bravely stage a movement to achieve national reconciliation and cooperation and independent reunification by the concerted efforts of the nation, holding higher the banner of "By our nation itself."

Rodong Sinmun on Daily Flourishing DPRK-Russia Friendship

     Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Monday devotes an article to the 2nd anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's historic visit to the Far Eastern Region of the Russian Federation. His visit to the Far Eastern Region of Russia marked another diplomatic event in putting the traditional DPRK-Russia friendly and cooperative relations on a new higher stage in keeping with the desire and interests of the peoples of the two countries and the trend and requirements of the new century and ensuring peace and stability in Asia and the rest of the world, the article says, and goes on:
    The friendly and cooperative relations between the DPRK and Russia have been developed with vigor for 2 years since his visit.
    The top leaders of the two countries have exchanged personal letters and messages of greetings on different occasions and exchange of delegations including high-level delegations has been activated for that period.
    The DPRK-Russia relations have been getting closer in various fields, displaying their vivid vitality, based on the DPRK-Russia joint declarations signed by the two top leaders.
    The DPRK people are paying deep attention to the social development of Russia, a neighbor on the other side of the River Tuman. Under the leadership of President V.V. DPRK, Dignified Non-aligned Nation

     Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- Twentynine years have elapsed since the Democratic People's Republic of Korea joined the None-aligned Movement on August 25, Juche 64 (1975). Since then, it has remained true to the idea and principle of the movement and exerted positive efforts for its unity and development. President Kim Il Sung contributed a treatise titled "The Non-aligned Movement Is a Mighty Anti-imperialist Revolutionary Force of Our Times" to the inaugural issue of the Argentine magazine Guidebook to the Third World dated December 16, 1975. In the work, he expounds in a comprehensive way not only the character, position, significance and role of the movement but also tasks and ways to expand and develop it.
    He saw to it that the First Conference of Ministers of Education and Culture of Non-aligned and Other Developing Countries, the Second Conference of Ministers and Top Officials in Physical Education and Sport of Non-aligned Countries and several other meetings were successfully held in Pyongyang. At the meetings he made public various works including "Non-aligned And Developing Countries Should Solve the Agricultural Problem through Their Own Efforts" (August 26, 1981), "The Non-aligned And Developing Countries Must Build National Cultures under the Banner of Independence And Sovereignty" (September 26, 1983), "For the Development of Physical Education And Sport in the Non-aligned Countries" (July 8, 1986) and "For the Development of the Non-aligned Movement" (June 20, 1986). He thus gave clear-cut answers to the questions arising in increasing economic and technical cooperation and exchange among the Non-aligned and other developing countries and realizing the global independence.
    The President also took measures to dispatch able experts to Non-aligned and developing countries so as to render sincere assistance to their agriculture.
    The DPRK was elected as vice-chairman country in the 12th Non-aligned Summit held in September 1998.
    Now it is striving to strengthen and develop the movement as member nation of the Coordinating Bureau of Non-aligned Countries.
    Under support of the DPRK government, the Pyongyang Film Festival of the Non-aligned and Other Developing Countries has been held once every two or three years since 1987 under the slogan "For Independence, Peace and Friendship".
    Non-aligned and developing countries fully support the independent foreign policy of the DPRK and the efforts of the Korean people for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.

S. Korean Authorities to Blame for Failure to Open National Writers' Meeting

     Pyongyang, August 23 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Korean Writers Union (KWU) is of the view that the U.S. unreasonable pressure and interference and the south Korean authorities' unprincipled act of toeing the U.S. line have bedeviled the north-south relations that had been improving favorably and this tense situation has made it impossible to open a national writers meeting at the date agreed upon between the north and the south for which the south side's authorities are entirely to blame. A spokesman for the Central Committee of the KWU said this in a statement issued today. He strongly urged the authorities to take a necessary measure as soon as possible to break the present deadlock. The statement continued:
    The Central Committee of the KWU and the National Literary Writers Council of south Korea agreed on June 10 to hold a grand national writers meeting for the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration in Pyongyang and in Mt. Paektu and have since stepped up preparations for them.
    The Central Committee of the KWU has exerted every sincere effort to make arrangements for the meeting to make it a grand literary festival for reunification, a festival for all writers and other Koreans in the north and the south of Korea and abroad desirous of national reunification and a historic meeting which would open a new phase in the literary movement for reunification.
    However, the south Korean authorities disallowed the Pyongyang visit of the delegation to honor the memory of President Kim Il Sung, abducted DPRK citizens and scuttled the joint function scheduled to be held on August 15 under the U.S. pressure and manipulation. They went the lengths of staging Ulji Focus Lens-04 joint military exercises, timed to coincide with the projected meeting.
    It is self-evident that this kind of meeting is quite impossible and no desired achievement can be expected from it even if it is held now that there is a tense atmosphere of discord and confrontation between fellow countrymen, actions are taken to deny the political system in the north and bring it down and dark clouds of a nuclear war are hanging over the Korean nation.
    Expressing the belief that all Koreans at home and abroad including writers would wage a vigorous struggle to foil moves for a war against the north and achieve national reconciliation, unity and reunification under the uplifted banner of the June 15 joint declaration, the statement noted that the KWU would exert positive efforts to hold the national writers meeting within this year.

     Pyongyang, 23 de agosto (ATCC) -- El 25 de agosto es el 29 aniversario de la adhesion de la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea al Movimiento de los No Alineados (MNA). En el 64 (1975) de la Era Juche, la RPDC se hizo parte oficial del MNA. Durante cerca de 30 anos quedo fiel al ideal y el principio del movimiento y desempeno un rol protagonico para la unidad y fortalecimiento de este.
    El 16 de diciembre de 1975, el Presidente Kim Il Sung publico en el primer numero de la revista argentina "Guia del Tercer Mundo" un articulo intitulado "El movimiento de los no alineados es una poderosa fuerza revolucionaria antiimperialista de nuestra epoca" que dilucida globalmente el caracter, la posicion, el significado y el papel de este movimiento, tareas y medios de lucha por su ampliacion.
    El Presidente hizo celebrar con exito en Pyongyang numerosas reuniones, entre otras, la primera reunion de ministros de educacion y cultura de los paises no alineados y otros en vias de desarrollo y la segunda reunion de ministros de deporte y altos funcionarios de los paises no alineados. En numerosas obras como "Paises no alineados y en vias de desarrollo, solucionemos el problema agricola apoyandonos en nuestras propias fuerzas" (26 de agosto de 1981), "Paises no alineados y en vias de desarrollo, construyamos la cultura nacional enarbolando la bandera de soberania e independencia" (26 de septiembre de 1983), "Para el desarrollo deportivo de los paises no alineados" (8 de julio de 1986), "Para el fortalecimiento del movimiento de los paises no alineados" (20 de junio de 1986) dio claras respuestas a los problemas practicos que se presentan en la lucha por fortalecer la cooperacion e intercambio economico-tecnicos entre los paises no alineados y en vias de desarrollo y por la realizacion de la independencia de todo el mundo.
    Por otra parte, envio a los paises no alineados y en vias de desarrollo los competentes especialistas con mision de brindar ayuda desinteresada a la labor del sector agricola.
    En septiembre de 1998, en la XII cumbre de los paises no alineados la RPDC fue elegida como pais vicepresidente de este conclave y desarrolla dinamicas actividades para el fortalecimiento del movimiento fungiendo de pais miembro del Buro de Coordinacion de Paises No Alineados y de otros aparatos de cooperacion por ramas como el Buro de Coordinacion del Sector Alimenticio y Agricola de los Paises No Alineados, el Pool de las Agencias de Noticias de los Paises No Alineados, el Centro de Ciencia y Tecnologia de los paises no alineados y otros en vias de desarrollo, la Organizacion de Radios de Paises No Alineados, etc.
    A partir de 1987, bajo la atencion del gobierno de la RPDC, por cada 2 o 3 anos se celebra el Festival de Cine de Pyongyang de los paises no alineados y otros en vias de desarrollo bajo la consigna de "Por la independencia, la paz y la amistad".
    Ahora, los paises no alineados y otros en vias de desarrollo expresan entero apoyo y solidaridad a la politica exterior independiente de la RPDC y los esfuerzos del pueblo coreano por la reunificacion independiente y pacifica del pais.

Sur de Corea: ejercicios militares "Hwarang"

     Pyongyang, 23 de agosto (ATCC) -- Segun la radio surcoreana MBC, la "Comandancia de defensa metropolitana del ejercito de tierra" anuncio que desarrollaran del 23 al 27 del mes en curso ejercicios militares conjuntos "Hwarang" de civiles, funcionarios y militares. Segun el anuncio, se preve desarrollar para el dia 25 un "ejercicio para hacer frente al terrorismo con las armas bioquimicas" bajo la participacion de un batallon quimico, comisarios de policia y de bomberos bajo la egida de la "comandancia" en los alrededores del ayuntamiento municipal de Socho y la Universidad Femenina Sukmyong en Seul.
    Tales maniobras coinciden con el simulacro conjunto "Ulji Focus Lens-04" dirigido por los yanquis.
    Asi, los belicistas del Sur de Corea pretenden fomentar mas un ambiente de confrontacion con nuevos alborotos de guerra.

Amistad coreano-rusa en fortalecimiento

     Pyongyang, 23 de agosto (ATCC) -- El diario Rodong Sinmun inserto el dia 23 un articulo dedicado al segundo aniversario de la historica visita del Dirigente Kim Jong Il al Lejano Oriente de la Federacion Rusa. La visita del Dirigente al Lejano Oriente sirvio de un evento diplomatico para desarrollar las tradicionales relaciones de amistad y cooperacion entre Corea y Rusia a una nueva etapa alta conforme a la aspiracion e intereses de ambos pueblos y a la corriente y demanda del nuevo siglo y para asegurar la paz y la estabilidad de Asia y el resto del mundo, senala el articulo y prosigue:
    Estos dos anos posteriores a esa visita fueron periodo de gran animacion de las relaciones de amistad y cooperacion entre amos paises.
    Durante este periodo, entre los maximos dirigentes de ambos paises se intercambiaron cartas personales y mensajes de felicitacion en varias ocasiones y se activo el intercambio de varias delegaciones incluyendo las de alto rango.
    A base de las declaraciones conjuntas firmadas por los maximos dirigentes de ambos paises, las relaciones bilaterales se estrechan en varias esferas y su vitalidad se manifiesta claramente.
    El pueblo coreano presta gran atencion al desarrollo social de Rusia que esta colindada con el rio Tuman de Corea. El pueblo ruso, bajo la direccion del Presidente V. V. Putin, hace activos esfuerzos por construir Rusia poderosa, lograr la estabilidad del pais y la unidad nacional y defender la seguridad e intereses del Estado. Rusia logra exitos al dedicar mayor fuerza al fortalecimiento del poderio defensivo y capacidad economica. Se eleva el rol de Rusia en la oposicion al terrorismo y la guerra, la preservacion de la paz y la seguridad del mundo y la solucion equitativa de los problemas internacionales.
    El pueblo coreano lo evalua debidamente.
    El pueblo ruso apoya al pueblo coreano en la lucha por la construccion de una gran potencia prospera y por la paz y reunificacion pacifica del pais. Esto constituye un estimulo para el pueblo coreano.
    El incesante fortalecimiento y desarrollo de la amistad coreano-rusa conviene enteramente a los intereses fundamentales y estrategicos de ambos pueblos y es util para la preservacion de la paz y seguridad de Asia y el resto del mundo y a la formacion estructural de un nuevo mundo justo.
    El pueblo coreano esta convencido de que los lazos de amistad con Rusia se fortaleceran aun mas en el futuro por los esfuerzos comunes de ambos paises.
