Peaceful Reunification of Korea Favored

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The meeting of the Executive Council of the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace held in Russia from August 12 to 14 reportedly supported the cause of independent and peaceful reunification of the Korean Buddhists and people. A resolution adopted at the meeting noted that the conference calls for forcing the U.S. forces in south Korea to pull back from there and eliminating all factors of threatening this process

Kim Jong Il's Works Greatly Instrumental in Developing Youth Movement

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- It is more than a decade since leader Kim Jong Il sent a historic letter "Young Men and Women, Be the Vanguard Unfailingly Loyal to the Party and the Leader" to the young people throughout the country and the officials of the youth league on the occasion of the first Youth Day, August 26, Juche 80 (1991). The work underscores the importance and significance of instituting Youth Day and reviews a glorious path covered by the Korean youth movement. It clarifies tasks and ways for educating the youth as reliable successors to the revolutionary cause of Juche on the basis of the brilliant tradition of the Juche-oriented youth movement established by President Kim Il Sung. The work has served as important guidelines and an immortal banner for the development of the movement.
    Ever since he began leading the revolution and construction, Kim Jong Il has authored a lot of works related to the youth movement such as "On Improving the Work of the Youth League to Meet the Requirements of the Developing Situation", "Let Us Cultivate the Revolutionary Spirit of Paektu among the Rising Generation" and "Let Us Equip the Young People With the Spirit of Uninterrupted Revolution".
    The works deal with the character and duty of the league, the issues of arming the youth with the revolutionary spirit of Mt.Paektu, intensifying the education in the revolutionary traditions among them and helping them perform their role as vanguard and shock brigade on all fronts of socialist construction.
    Among them are work "The Present Times and the Tasks Facing Young People" calling on the youth to explore the path to be followed by the times, achieve social progress and struggle for accomplishing the cause of independence against imperialism and other works entitled "Let Us Prepare the Young People Thoroughly as Reliable Successors to the Revolutionary Cause of Juche", "Let Us Develop Our Youth Movement to a New, Higher Level" and "On Channeling Efforts into Work with Youth" published under the tragic situation where socialism collapsed in various countries.
    In those days of the "Arduous March", forced march Kim Jong Il indicated the direction and ways of leading the youth to play a frontranker's role in defending and glorifying the socialist cause and granted the youth league the honor of going with the august name of President Kim Il Sung.
    Kim Jong Il's famous works "On Mission and Tasks of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League" and "Let Us Exalt the Brilliance of Comrade Kim Il Sung's Idea on the Youth Movement and the Achievements Made under His Leadership" clearly reflect the noble intention of the leader to steadily strengthen and develop the youth league as the youth organization of the President.

Halt to War Game Demanded

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification reportedly issued a statement on August 22 demanding an immediate halt to the "Ulji Focus Lens-04", a large-scale war game against the north. The current joint military drill is being staged under a meticulous plan by the United States and the pro-U.S. war hawks allegedly to test the capability of south Korea-U.S. joint operation for confronting a "contingency" on the Korean peninsula and it is unequivocally a challenge to the desire of the Korean nation for independent reunification and a threat to peace on the Korean peninsula, said the statement.
    If the United States and pro-U.S. war-hungry elements pursue aggression and war to stifle the DPRK, going against the trend of peace and reunification, they will face with an anti-U.S. resistance of the whole Korean nation, it warned.

U.S. Urged to Stop Reckless Sabre-rattling

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- There is an increasing danger of a war on the Korean peninsula today and with no sweet words can the U.S. bellicose forces cover up the true nature and danger of their criminal policy to invade the DPRK and deceive the world, says Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed article. Referring to the fact that the U.S. imperialists are staging madcap war exercises such as RIMPAC 2004 and Ulji Focus Lens-04 joint military exercises for the purpose of rounding off preparations for multi-national forces' military actions during the Korean war after turning the area around the Korean peninsula into assembly area for their forces and forward operational base, the article continues:
    These disturbing military developments around the Korean peninsula eloquently prove that the U.S. is focusing its efforts on rounding off the preparations for a war against the DPRK.
    The U.S. imperialists have put under their control Central Asia, Mid-east and Balkans through wars it fought in recent years. It is their calculation that they can seize strategic vantage points on the margins of the Euro-Asian continent ranging from Northeast Asia to Central Asia, Mid-east and Western Europe and bring China and Russia inside the sphere of its complete military siege if they stifle the DPRK by force and put the whole of Korea under their control. This is the reason why the U.S. is tapping all its military potentials to escalate its war moves to seize the DPRK with increased frenzy. In case a war breaks out in Korea the U.S. bellicose forces intend to wage a blitz warfare by a preemptive nuclear attack.
    The U.S. loudmouthed dialogue and arms reduction are nothing but a trick to cover up the true nature of its policy to invade the DPRK, mislead the world public opinion and calm down mounting anti-Americanism. It does not stand for a peaceful negotiated settlement of the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula but seeks to stifle the DPRK by force. The dialogue much touted by it is nothing but a cry for a war.
    If the U.S. has true willingness to settle the nuclear issue through dialogue and ensure peace on the Korean peninsula it should pull back its aggression troops from south Korea and its vicinity and stop its reckless military actions against the DPRK.

War Maneuvers in S. Korea Castigated

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson Thursday comes out with a commentary denouncing the "Ulji Focus Lens-04" joint military maneuvers now under way in south Korea. Noting that the current joint war rehearsal launched by the U.S. by instigating the south Korean authorities is, to all intents and purposes, an adventurous saber-rattling to invade the north and a dangerous play with fire threatening peace and security on the Korean peninsula, the news analyst says:
    This proves that the United States, though loudmouthed in public about "peace" and "negotiation", in practice, seeks distrust and confrontation, not peace, and pursues the provocation of a new war on the Korean peninsula.
    The U.S. imperialists are choosing to increase the fund for their arms buildup program, while letting out a spate of words about "cutdown and relocation" of their forces in south Korea. They have driven up the cost of the program from the original $11 billion to $13 billion and are making uninterrupted shipment of all latest types of military hardware into south Korea. They have worked out the second Korean war scenario codenamed "operation plan 5027-04" and are working to put it into practice. The "Ulji Focus Lens-04" joint war game is no more than a preliminary war against the north, which is designed to test the effectiveness and feasibility of the operation plan through a computer-aided mock drill simulating a real war.
    It is an ill-boding military move that the Metropolitan Defense Command of the south Korean army launched the "Hwarang" exercise including a "drill to cope with chemical and biological terrorism" involving civilians, government officials and the army, timing to coincide with the start of the "Ulji Focus Lens-04".
    But the wild designs of the U.S. imperialist bellicose forces to invade the north stand no change of realization.

Youth, Vibrant Militant Ranks in Building Powerful Nation

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The youth are standing at the head of the fierce revolutionary offensive on the three fronts--politics and ideology, anti-imperialism and military affairs and economy and science--in the DPRK, says Rodong Sinmun in a signed article Thursday. There are many countries and multitudes of young people in the world, but no country has so successfully solved the youth problem as the DPRK did and no young people are so revolutionary and militant as those in the DPRK, the article states. Underlining the position and role played by the Korean youth on the three fronts, the article continues:
    It is entirely the fruition of the wise guidance of leader Kim Jong Il that the Korean youth are demonstrating their might as the most viable militant ranks in building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation Setting forth the youth problem already long ago as a strategic issue for the victorious advance of the revolution, he has all along maintained the idea and line of attaching importance to the youth. It is the unshakable stand consistently maintained by him to carry the revolutionary cause of Juche to accomplishment with a tight hold on the youth as well as on the party and the army.
    Notably, in the historical days of recording the sacred Songun revolution, he has combined the idea of attaching importance to the arms with that of attaching importance to the youth and wisely led the young soldiers to make a breakthrough in the revolution and construction well in the fore of the era.

Congratulations to President of Vanuatu

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, on Aug. 23 sent a congratulatory message to Kalkot Mataskelekele on the latter's election as president of the Republic of Vanuatu. In the message he expressed the belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to develop on good terms and wished the president of Vanuatu great success in his work.

National Exhibition of Scientific and Technological Achievements Opens

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- A national exhibition of scientific and technological achievements of youth and students opened Wednesday on the occasion of the Youth Day. On display there are programs, products, visual aids, models, etc. representing at least 1,100 successful inventions and new technological innovation proposals including over 500 valuable IT products.
    Among them are calculating programs and multi-media programs and various other programs helpful to the scientific, technological and educational progress in the country and the entertainment for the people.
    Also exhibited there are valuable research successes such as a device for a precise control of temperature by light and temperature sensing in a vacuum furnace for the growth of crystal, nickel hydrogen accumulator, a variety of integrated circuits and plant stimulant which have already been introduced to several fields of the national economy to pay off.
    An opening ceremony was held at the Three Revolution Exhibition.
    Present at the ceremony were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Pyon Yong Rip, president of the Academy of Sciences, and others.

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The tetrodocain injection produced by the Korea Jangsaeng Joint Venture Company is drawing attention of people for its mysterious efficacy. Choe Hui Gyong, a section chief of the company, told that tetrodocain has proved highly efficacious for various kinds of chronic diseases through clinical trials over the last few decades. The demand for it is ever increasing, he said.
    When it is applied, anesthesia comes quickly and lasts long. It has no after-effect.

Research Successes of Young Scientists

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The national exhibition of scientific and technological achievements of youth and students opened at the Three-Revolution Exhibition on August 25 on the occasion of the Youth Day. It will go on until September 5.
    Seen there are 1,100-odd exhibits showing scientific and technological successes made by young scientists of national and provincial institutions.
    They are catching the eyes of the visitors as they reflect the requirement of the developing reality.
    Young scientists have developed the technology for helping breed a new species of potato and for substituting natural fertilizer abundant in Taehongdan County for potash fertilizer so as to bring about a turn in potato-farming.
    They bred a new species of hemp superior than other species in economic value when an all-people campaign for planting hemp was being conducted.
    They also proved successful in the research for raising quality of zinc by relying on domestic raw materials.
    Among the exhibits are methods of manufacture of absorbing haemostatic and its clinical application.

Friendly Football Matches Held between DPRK, China

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- A friendly football match between the Amnokgang women's football team of the DPRK and the visiting selected women's youth football team of China was held at Kim Il Sung Stadium on Wednesday. Forward Sin Kum Ok of the Amnokgang team netted a goal at 24 minutes in the latter half, ending the game in favor of the host.
    Earlier, there was a match between the Chinese team and the April 25 women's football team in which the Korean girls defeated the Chinese team 1:4.
    The Chinese team will have the last match with the North Hwanghae Provincial women's football team in Sariwon City on August 27.

18th International Invitational Table-Tennis Tournament Opens

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- The 18th Pyongyang International Invitational Table-Tennis Tournament opened here Thursday. An opening ceremony was held in the Table-Tennis Gymnasium in Chongchun Street.
    Present there were Jong In Chol, vice-chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, Kim Yu Ho, chairman of the DPRK Table-Tennis Association, and officials concerned.
    Sports teams of Singapore, Uzbekistan, China, Jilin Province of China, and teams A and B of the DPRK entered the gymnasium.
    After a speech was made by Kim Chil Song, chairman of the organizing committee of the tournament, the flag of the tournament was hoisted.
    The opening ceremony was followed by games.

Message of Sympathy to Russian President

     Pyongyang, August 26 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, on Wednesday sent a message of sympathy to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, president of Russia, in connection with the crash of airliners in Russia. Upon hearing the shocking news that the crash of airliners in Russia claimed huge casualties, I express profound sympathy and sorrow to you and, through you, to the victims and their bereaved families, the message said.
    The message sincerely hoped that the president and the government of Russia would eradicate the aftermath of such tragic accidents as early as possible.

Ejercicio frenetico que aumenta peligro de guerra en Corea

     Pyongyang, 26 de agosto (ATCC) -- Hoy en la Peninsula Coreana aumenta el peligro de guerra lejos de reinar la paz. Las fuerzas belicosas estadounidenses con ningunas palabras melosas pueden disimular la esencia y peligrosidad de su criminal politica de agresion a Corea ni articulo individual del dia 26 y continua:
    Los yanquis para convertir el contorno de la Peninsula Coreana en lugar de concentracion y base operacional mas avanzada de las fuerzas armadas norteamericanas y completar las acciones militares de las fuerzas armadas multinacionales para el caso de la guerra coreana libran freneticos ejercicios militares como "Rimpac 2004" y "Ulji Focus Lens- 04".
    Estos movimientos insolitos en torno a la Peninsula Coreana demuestran elocuentemente que esta superpotencia enfoca la fuerza a los preparativos de guerra contra la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea.
    Los yanquis, a traves de las guerras de los ultimos anos, pusieron bajo la esfera de su dominio la region de Asia Central, el Medio Oriente y la Peninsula Balcanica.     El "dialogo" y "reduccion" de tropas norteamericanas de que habla este imperio no pasan de ser artimanas para disimular la esencia de su politica de agresion a Corea, enganar la opinion mundial y calmar el rencor para si mismo. EE.UU. no se propone solucionar por via pacifica y negociada el problema nuclear de la Peninsula Coreana sino aplastar a la RPDC por la fuerza. El "dialogo" de que habla tan ruidosamente este imperio no es mas que una trompeta de guerra.
    Si de veras EE.UU. tiene la voluntad de resolver el problema nuclear a traves del dialogo y preservar la paz en la Peninsula Coreana, deben retirar sus fuerzas armadas del Sur de Corea y su contorno y poner fin a sus temerarias acciones militares contra la RPDC.

Peligroso ejercicio para dar el primer golpe

     Pyongyang, 26 de agosto (ATCC) -- El periodico Minju Joson inserto en su edicion del dia 26 un comentario individual denunciando el ejercicio militar conjunto "Ulji Focus Lens-04" que se libran en el Sur de Corea. El rotativo senala que EE.UU. instiga a las autoridades surcoreanas a desarrollar el presente simulacro que es de cabo a rabo un aventurero acto de provocacion de guerra contra el Norte de Corea y un peligroso juego con el fuego que amenaza la paz y la seguridad de la Peninsula Coreana, y continua:
    Esto comprueba que aunque esta superpotencia predica la "paz" y las "conversaciones", de hecho, persigue la desconfianza, confrontacion y nueva guerra en la Peninsula Coreana.
    Los imperialistas norteamericanos optaron por aumentar los fondos destinados al "plan de aumento armamentista" alegando la "reduccion y reubicacion" de sus tropas estacionadas en el suelo surcoreano. En este sentido, aumentaron de 11 mil millones (cifra prevista al principio) a 13 mil millones de dolares e introducen ininterrumpidamente en el Sur de Corea los pertrechos belicos sofisticados de toda indole.
    Ademas, tejen una artimana para llevar a la practica el nuevo guion llamado "plan de operacion 5027-04" ya trazado para desatar la segunda guerra coreana.
    "Ulji Focus Lens-04" deviene justamente una guerra preliminar de agresion al Norte de Corea encaminada a verificar la eficiencia y la posibilidad real del citado "plan" a traves del simulacro computarizado.
    Simultaneamente, comenzaron otro entrenamiento denominado "Hwarang" patrocinado por la "Comandancia de defensa metropolitana del ejercito de tierra" del Sur de Corea. En el marco de "Hwarang" se desplegara un "ejercicio para hacer frente al terrorismo con las armas bioquimicas" con la participacion de hombres civiles, funcionarios y militares. Todo esto es un insolito movimiento castrense.
    Pero, la ambicion de las fuerzas belicosas norteamericanas de agredir al Norte de Corea nunca sera realizada.
