Japan Urged to Redress Its Past as Early as Possible

     Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Sunday carries an article 94 years after the Japanese imperialists proclaimed the "Korea-Japan annexation" after fabricating the "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" at the point of bayonet. The article cites to prove that the "Korea-Japan annexation" proclaimed by the Japanese imperialists on August 29, 1910 was a brigandish and illegal annexation. Noting that due to the Japanese imperialists' brigandish annexation of territory and colonial fascist rule, the Korean people suffered immeasurable misfortune and pain and Korea was far removed from modern civilization, the article says:
    The Japanese imperialists did not grant even elementary freedom and right to the Korean people and forced them to unconditionally submit and obey the order that was enforced by them for their occupation and colonial rule.
    They abducted and forcibly drafted more than 8.4 million young and middle-aged Koreans to use them as cannon fodder in battle fields or drive them like beasts of burden in such slave labor sites as the construction sites of ore and coal mines and military installations.
    Meanwhile, at least 200,000 Korean women were taken away as "comfort women" for the imperial Japanese army and forced to provide sex to it. Most of them fell victim to the Japanese imperialists' atrocities. They died in alien lands with grudge against them.
    During their occupation of Korea the Japanese imperialists savagely plundered it of its rich resources and indiscriminately vandalized and looted its precious cultural treasures.
    Not content with this, they took away even brass bowls and brass spoons and chopsticks used by families of Korea, to say nothing of brass candlesticks and brass wine cups on tables used during memorial services and ornamental hairpins of women.
    The Japanese imperialists had long kept an eye to the cultural treasures of Korea. So as soon as they occupied it, they came to Korea like a pack of wolves and ruthlessly looted those treasures and shipped them to Japan to make them their own properties.
    The Japanese acts of looting and burning up Korea's national classics reached their height in vandalizing and looting the cultural treasures of Korea.
    The Japanese imperialist gangsters shipped "Rijosillok (the true records of Ri Dynasty)"listed as a cultural treasure of the world, and many precious books preserved in Kyujang Pavilion.
    The Japanese imperialists committed such outrages as burning up over 200,000 volumes of books recording the history of Korea, branding them as "seditious books".
    They enforced such harsh national culture obliteration policy in Korea as disallowing the Koreans to use their spoken and written languages.
    The Japanese imperialists declared the Japanese language the "national language" and did not hesitate to impose fine upon Koreans and give them physical punishment if they did not use the Japanese language.
    They pursued such a cruel policy of assimilating Koreans as Japanese as forcing them to change their names into Japanese.
    These shuddering atrocities committed by the Japanese imperialists during their occupation of Korea in the last century were extremely hideous ones against humanity, the nation and history.
    Though 60 years have passed since the defeat of Japan, it has not yet redressed its past. Japan should settle its past at an early date in the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration in order to redress the hideous crimes it committed against the Korean people and make a fresh appearance before the times and humankind.

Day of Youth Marked in DPRK

     Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Korean youth and students celebrated the Youth Day all over the country. . Kim Yong Nam, Pak Pong Ju and other senior party and state officials and leading officials of central and local party and power bodies and working people's organizations visited factories, enterprises, farms and universities including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, the Taean Heavy Machine Complex and the Yoltusamchon Farm in Sukchon County on Saturday to congratulate youth and students on the day.
    Young people, together with the senior officials, laid floral baskets and bunches of flowers before statues of President Kim Il Sung and monuments to the revolutionary activities and hardened their pledge to uphold the idea and leadership of Kim Jong Il with loyalty.

Wreath Laid before Friendship Tower

     Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference led by Vice-Chairman Li Zhaozhuo on a visit to the DPRK laid a wreath before the Friendship Tower Sunday. Present there were Kim Wan Su, director of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland, officials concerned, Guan Huabing, Chinese charge d'affaires, and embassy officials in Pyongyang.
    Written in the ribbon of the wreath were letters reading "Sino-Korean friendship will be everlasting".
    The participants observed a moment's silence in memory of CPV martyrs who fell down while fighting courageously in the Korean war against the U.S. imperialist aggressors.
    They looked round the tower.
    The head of the delegation made an entry in the visitors' book.

Chinese Guests Pay Homage to Kim Il Sung

     Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference led by Vice-Chairman Li Zhaozhuo visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace Sunday to pay homage to President Kim Il Sung. The Chinese guests made a bow to the President, who lies in state, with boundless respect for him.
    Then they looked round with deep attention the orders, medals and honorary certificates awarded to the President by our country and other countries, the Mourners Hall reminding everyone of the days during which the Korean people and the progressive people of the world writhed in sorrow for the loss of a distinguished great man of the era of independence, a train and a car he used for his on-the-spot guidance and visits to foreign countries and during the last period of his life.

DPRK Boxer Wins Silver Medal in 28th Olympic Games

     Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Kim Song Guk of the DPRK came second in the men's featherweight of boxing in the 28th Olympic Games in Athens. He beat his Georgian opponent in 25-14 decision in the preliminaries, Nigerian in 32-11 decision in the quarterfinals and German in the semifinals to advance to the finals, which was held on August 28.

Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Navy Unit 155

     Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army inspected KPA Navy Unit 155 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment. This unit had been visited several times by President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and its history is associated with the traces of the revolutionary activities.
    Looking round the historic mementoes and materials, the Supreme Commander recalled with deep emotion those days when the President led the building of the Navy. The President had worked heart and soul for the founding of naval forces and their strengthening and development until the last moments of his life just since the liberation of the country and under his wise leadership and deep care the Navy of the DPRK could develop into matchless, invincible forces, Kim Jong Il said, adding: The undying revolutionary feats of the President for the building of the Juche-based navy will shine long in the history of the nation.
    The Supreme Commander stressed the need to well preserve the mementoes and materials representing the great guidance of the President and intensify the education with them as they are a precious heritage of revolution which should be handed down for ever along with the history of the KPA Navy.
    Then, he acquainted himself with the performance of the unit's duty and watched sailors in training before advancing the important tasks that would serve as guidelines in further strengthening the naval forces.
    Our socialist fatherland is impregnable as its seas are firmly safeguarded by the brave sailors who regard as their immovable faith the spirit of devotedly defending the leader, the spirit of becoming human bullets and bombs and the spirit of blowing themselves, he said.
    He went to the education room, bedroom, mess, kitchen, non-staple food store, washroom and other places of the unit to pay deep attention to sailors' service and living.
    Special attention should be paid to the eating and sleeping conditions of sailors who are spending much of their time in rough seas, he said, stressing the need to provide better supply service to suit their characteristics.
    He presented the servicemen of the unit with a pair of binoculars and an automatic rifle as gifts and posed for a picture with them.
    He was accompanied by KPA Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong and Ri Yong Chol, member of the WPK Central Military Commission and first vice department director of the WPK Central Committee.

Ulji Focus Lens-04 Denounced Abroad

     Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- The Asian Regional Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification, the Indian Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification and the All India Indo-Korean Friendship Association issued a joint statement on Aug. 21 denouncing the "Ulji Focus Lens-04" joint military exercise. Recalling that the U.S. has persistently opposed the just proposals of the DPRK government for the final solution of the nuclear issue, the statement noted: The bellicose nature of the U.S. has been revealed by the joint military exercise to be staged by it from Aug. 23 to Sept. 3 under the pretext of coping with the "emergency on the Korean peninsula." This indicates that the "operation plan 5027-04", a U.S. scenario for a war of aggression against the DPRK, has reached the phase of its full-scale implementation and a nuclear war may break out on the Korean peninsula any time.
    The statement bitterly denounced the reckless moves of the U.S. and the south Korean warhawks for a war of invasion as criminal moves to seriously harass the peace and security on the Korean peninsula and the region and urged them to immediately cancel the military exercise.

Implementation of Line of Economic Construction in Songun Era Called for

     Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- The line of economic construction in the Songun era which calls for giving priority to the development of the national defence industry and developing light industry and agriculture simultaneously serves as a strategic line to be consistently held fast to by the DPRK in building socialist economy as it helps most properly combine the issue of building national defence and economy with that of improving the people's living standard as required by the era and the revolution, says Minju Joson in an editorial Saturday. Saying that the Workers' Party of Korea's line of building economy is the most revolutionary line of building economy as it makes it possible to protect the dignity of the country and the nation and defend socialism, the editorial continues:
    The line of economic construction in the Songun era the keynote of which is to give priority to the development of the national defence industry is the most unique and revolutionary line as it make it possible to perform the duty to carry out the Korean revolution and conduct economic construction from a Juche-based stand under the prevailing situation.
    This line is the unique line of economic construction which makes it possible to most successfully pursue the great Songun politics, independent politics and benevolent politics. It serves as the unique Korean style line of building socialist economy as it makes it possible to protect the dignity and authority of the country and fully display the advantages and might of socialism under the banner of Songun.
    It is a sacred undertaking to remain true to leader Kim Jong Il's Songun revolutionary leadership for the officials and other working people to thoroughly implement the line of economic construction in the Songun era. It is also a worthwhile work to effect a fresh leaping advance and innovations in this year's general offensive for building a great prosperous powerful nation.
    All efforts should be channeled into giving priority to the development of the national defence industry. We should consider it as a vital issue related to the destiny of the country and the revolution to keep the munitions production going, improve the quality of its products and modernize the equipment of the People's Army and provide it with everything necessary on a top priority basis.
    It is also necessary to exert efforts to develop light industry and agriculture simultaneously in order to decisively improve the standard of the people's living.
    The paper calls for waging a drive to implement the above-said line to the letter by the Songun political mode.

S. Korean Authorities Urged to Remain True to June 15 Joint Declaration

     Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- The Swiss Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification sent a letter to the south Korean chief executive on Aug. 19 in protest against the actions taken by south Korean authorities to disallow the Pyongyang visit of a non-governmental delegation to participate in the functions commemorating the 10th death anniversary of President Kim Il Sung and the participation of representatives of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification and the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils in the August 15 meeting for national reunification. The letter branded the above-said actions as acts quite contrary to the spirit of the north-south joint declaration as they are crimes against the nation and reunification.
    It strongly demanded the south Korean authorities halt cracking down upon the people's patriotic movement for reunification and permit contacts and visits to the north, something commonplace between compatriots.
    The letter demanded the south Korean authorities abolish the fascist "Security Law" which bans any contact with northerners and considers it as a crime and release all the arrested pro-reunification personages. It also urged them to implement the joint declaration and act in its spirit.

S. Korean Authorities Condemned for Going against National Reunification

     Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- Kim So Ja, chairwoman of the Union of Korean Democratic Women in Japan, on Aug. 16 released a press statement titled "The south Korean authorities should stop suppressing the reunification movement organizations at once." She said that it was the unanimous aspiration and will of all Koreans to hold functions common to the nation on the occasion of the August 15 liberation day in the basic spirit of the June 15 joint declaration. The south Korean authorities, however, disallowed the participation of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification and the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification, the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils and other patriotic organizations in the August 15 functions for reunification, she noted, and continued:.
    We strongly demand the south Korean authorities immediately stop suppressing those reunification movement organizations, repent of their criminal acts of laying obstacles in the way of the nationwide advance towards reunification and apologize for them.
    We will make redoubled efforts to make 2005, the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the country and the fifth anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration, a year of independent reunification.

Youth Day Observed

     Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il is the great leader of the Korean youth movement and a benevolent teacher who has brought up the young people to be reliable heirs to the revolutionary cause of Juche, says Rodong Sinmun today in an editorial dedicated to the Youth Day. It goes on: Forty years of his leadership over the Korean revolution are a history of his loving care in which he has shown for the young people all solicitude he could do. They represent a heroic epic in which he has victoriously led the struggle to defend socialism and achieve the prosperity of the country in firm reliance upon the youth as well as the Party and the army. His idea and line of giving importance to the youth have served as a source of inexhaustible strength that inspired the young people to display great wisdom and courage and make leaping advances.
    The young people, those in their twenties in particular, should have a great ideal and high ambition as required by the developing new era, which means becoming a standard-bearer of the Songun revolution to be acknowledged by the leader and to be remembered by the country and the people forever, the editorial stresses, and says:
    Our young people should creditably carry forward the tradition of devotedly defending the headquarters of the revolution.
    All the young people should have the unshakable faith that they recognize nobody but leader Kim Jong Il, entrust their destinies and future entirely to him and safeguard the headquarters of the revolution in the spirit of becoming human bullets and bombs, the spirit of blowing up themselves.
    It is necessary for them to uphold the Party's idea of Songun and its leadership with heroic feats.
    All the young people should become a passionate adherent to the Songun idea, a steadfast champion of the Songun politics and a thorough implementer of the Songun line and regard it as the highest honor to become a soldier of Kim Jong Il.
    They should be reliable defenders of socialism who uncompromisingly fight against the U.S. imperialists and all sorts of class enemies with the transparent working class consciousness and the anti-U.S., anti-imperialist fighting spirit.
    The most important task facing the young people at present is to make a breakthrough in advance in all fields of building a great prosperous powerful nation.

    They should take the lead in getting the revolutionary soldier spirit prevail throughout the society as befits the younger generation of the DPRK which enjoys high dignity thanks to the Songun policy.

Kim Jong Il Sends Modern Educational and Scientific Equipment to University

     Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il sent modern educational and scientific equipment and books to Kim Chaek University of Technology. He gave on-site guidance to the university in September Juche 90 (2001) to clearly indicate the road for the university to follow.
    This time he again showed great favour for the university. He sent hundreds of kinds of modern educational and scientific equipment, IT facilities and materials and many modern scientific and technological books to the university so that it might consolidate its material and technological foundation as required by the IT age.
    A ceremony of conveying them was held at the university on August 26. Among those present there were Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, and Kim Yong Jin, minister of Education.

GNP's Row over "Pro-North and Pro-Communism" Flailed

     Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland gave the following answer to a question put by KCNA Saturday as regards the acute political confrontation between the ruling and opposition camps and between progressive and conservative forces in south Korea over the issue of "probe into the past crimes": The Grand National Party has so far opposed the intense debate about the issue, describing the "probe into past crimes" as a move to "divide the public opinion" and "kill opposition party representative." Recently, however, it began asserting that the pro-north, pro-communist activities should be included in the targets of probe. This is intended to equate the probe into the past crimes that has become a trend of the times with the confrontation between the pro-north, pro-communist forces and the forces "defending freedom and democracy."
    This far-fetched assertion is aimed to brand pro-reunification patriotic figures and organizations of different strata and even those supporting the June 15 joint declaration as pro-north and pro-communist elements.
    It can not but be an anachronistic and treacherous act going against the desire of the nation to raise the issue of "pro-north and pro-communism", the old conception of confrontation in the Cold War era, today when all the Koreans in the north and the south are getting reconciled and united and working hard to solve the issue of reunification by the concerted efforts of the nation.
    The GNP's moves are aimed to cover up its crime-woven past in which it perpetrated pro-U.S. sycophantic and treacherous acts and fascist and anti-reunification crimes after springing up from the roots of pro-Japanese acts, scuttle the on-going "probe into the past crimes", disregard what has been gained by the movements for independence, democracy and reunification and bring back the old era of dictatorship and confrontation.
    The south Koreans from all walks of life should throw overboard these dregs of society through the struggle to probe the truth about the past crimes just as they sternly punished GNP coteries who challenged the mind-set of people during the crisis over the motion on impeachment against the president and the April general election.

En septiembre del 90 (2001) de la Era Juche, el Dirigente dirigio sobre el terreno el plantel docente y aclaro el camino a seguir por este. Esta vez volvio a dispensar gran benevolencia al enviar centenaries de generos de modernos equipos docentes y cientificos, instalaciones tecnologicas de informatica, materiales, numerosos libros de ciencia y tecnica de punta para la excelente base material y tecnica de la educacion de dicho Instituto conforme a la epoca de la industria de informatica.

Secretariado del CRPP denuncia "Partido Hannara"

     Pyongyang, 28 de agosto (ATCC) -- El secretariado del Comite por la Reunificacion Pacifica de la Patria (CRPP) hizo publica el dia 27 la informacion No.883 denunciando al "Partido Hannara" del Sur de Corea que se desespera para mantener la infame y fascista "ley de seguridad" que constituye un obstaculo para la reunificacion nacional. En relacion con las "recomendaciones de derogacion de la ley de seguridad" presentadas por el "Comite de derechos humanos" del Sur de Corea, el representante del "Partido Hannara" dijo el dia 24: "es necesaria esta ley para la seguridad porque el Norte de Corea no ha renunciado su estrategia de hacer roja al Sur de Corea". El documento sostiene que esto es una aviesa provocacion contra la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y un ultimo esfuerzo desesperado de ese partido por detener la corriente principal de la sociedad surcoreana en demanda de la derogacion de esa ley.
    A continuacion el documento senala:
    Pese a que los habitantes de distintos sectores e incluso el circulo politico del Sur de Corea demandan energicamente la anulacion de esa ley, solo las fuerzas conservadoras derechistas del "Partido Hannara" se oponen obstinadamente a la abolicion de este "codigo" que constituye el ultimo sosten en que se apoya decenas de anos para sustentar la vida y mantener la maligna dominacion fascista.
    Los habitantes de distintos sectores del Sur de Corea deben eliminar lo mas pronto posible el "Partido Hannara" y la "ley de seguridad" que son residuos de la epoca de confrontacion.

Rodong Sinmun felicita el Dia de la Juventud

     Pyongyang, 28 de agosto (ATCC) -- El periodico Rodong Sinmun dedico el dia 28 un editorial al Dia de la Juventud. El Dirigente Kim Jong Il es el gran Dirigente y afectuoso maestro del movimiento juvenil coreano, quien entrena a los jovenes como dignos continuadores de la causa revolucionaria del Juche, senala el editorial y prosigue:
    Su historia de orientacion de 40 anos sobre la revolucion es la de amor benevolo en que dedico todos los beneficios posibles a los jovenes y una heroica trayectoria epica en que tomando riendas del partido, el ejercito y la juventud ha logrado victorias sucesivas en la batalla por la defensa del socialismo y la prosperidad de la patria. La idea y linea del Dirigente de dar importancia a la juventud sirvieron de una fuente de la inagotable fuerza que les dio alas de inteligencia, valentia y salto a los jovenes.
    Los jovenes, en particular, los de veintitantos anos de edad deben tener el gran ideal y esperanza conforme a la demanda de la nueva epoca en desarrollo. Esto es prepararse como abanderado de la revolucion del Songun (priorizacion militar) que reconoce precisamente el Dirigente y de que recuerdan eternamente la patria y el pueblo.
