Buddhists Enjoy Free Religious Activities in DPRK
Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- The Buddhists are enjoying the freedom of religious activities in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
After the liberation of Korea President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the Buddhists found their genuine democratic organization representing their interests to lead a patriotic religious life.
Visiting the Pohyon Temple in Mt. Myohyang in May Juche 36 (1947) and October 1949, he indicated the road to be taken by the Buddhists in the liberated country.
When temples were destroyed and the believers' living was deteriorated during the three-year-long Korean War started by the U.S. imperialists, the President took steps to restore the ruined temples and stabilize their life even though the country's economic situation was difficult.
He met officials of the Korean Federation of Buddhists on several occasions and encouraged them to contribute to the patriotic cause of national reunification. And he paid deep attention to the believers, visiting the Pobun Temple in Mt. Ryongak, Chonju Temple in Yaksandongdae of Nyongbyon County, Kwanum Temple in Mt. Chonma, Songbul Temple in Mt. Jongbang and many other temples.
Busy as he was with Songun leadership in the period of the "Arduous March" following the 1970s and 1980s, leader Kim Jong Il visited the Pohyon Temple in Mt. Myohyang, Kaesim Temple in Mt. Chilbo, Songbul Temple in Mt. Jongbang and Woljong Temple in Mt. Kuwol. And in the new century, too, he called at the Ryangchon Temple and Anbul Temple in South Hamgyong Province and the Simwon Temple in North Phyongan Province.
During his visit to them, he chatted with priests and officials and solved all issues raised by them. And he sent 70th and 80th birthday tables and gifts to priests on various commemoration days.
The Buddhists in the DPRK have enjoyed the freedom of religious belief guaranteed by law and led a stabilized life under the benevolent and all-embracing politics pursued by the great men.
Convinced that to implement the President's behests and uphold Kim Jong Il's Songun politics is precisely to relieve themselves from the pains and enjoy happiness, build a paradise on earth and to achieve national independence and unity, they are devoting themselves to the efforts for the reunification of the country and the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
