Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Unit

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, inspected KPA Unit 3875. He acquainted himself with the performance of the unit's duty before looking round the serviceperson's hall, a library, a bedroom, a mess hall, a washroom and other places to learn about its management.
He expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the unit has put all aspects of the servicepersons' life on a regular footing by following the way the anti-Japanese guerilla army managed its units.
He dropped in at a military lecture room to watch a training of soldiers.
Seeing them undergoing an intensive training without wasting time, he gave a warm pep-talk to them who were making persevering efforts to thoroughly implement the WPK's policy of training.
He spared time to watch an art performance given by servicepersons of a company of the unit.
He had a photo session with servicepersons of the unit.
The next leg of his inspection was a sub-unit of the unit.
After receiving a salute, he watched its servicepersons in training.
He set forth tasks to be fulfilled to increase the combat capability of the unit, greatly pleased to learn that all commanding officers and men of the sub-unit have grown to be a-match-for-a-hundred fighters by making the training a part of their daily routine and life in warm response to the WPK's slogan "Training means a battle."
He familiarized himself in detail with soldiers' service and living, going round a general lecture room, a gymnasium, an educational room, bedrooms, a mess hall and other entertainment and logistic facilities.
After seeing warmly heated bedrooms, the general lecture room where a variety of materials for the political and military technical education were on display and all the entertainment and logistic facilities kept neat and tidy, he praised the servicepersons of the unit for tenaciously and methodically managing its economic life following the lifestyle of the anti-Japanese guerilla army.
Warm comradeship for the soldiers is one of the noble traits of the commanding officers of the revolutionary army, he noted, calling on all of them to pay deep attention to all aspects of the soldiers' life.
He gave the servicepersons of the sub-unit a pair of binoculars, a machine gun and an automatic rifle as gifts before having a photograph taken with them.
He was accompanied by KPA Generals Ri Myong Su and Hyon Chol Hae.

Round Table Talks Held in Czech Republic

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- Round-table talks took place in Prague on Nov. 23 on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's assumption of the supreme commandership of the Korean People's Army under the co-sponsorship of the Paektusan Czech-Korean Friendship Association and the Czech Group for the Study and Application of the Juche Idea. The chairman of the association in a speech said that Kim Jong Il set out the Songun politics as the basic political mode of the DPRK and this serves as the most just political mode as it enables the Korean people to defend socialism and the destinies of the country and the nation by themselves despite the persistent sanctions and pressure put by the U.S. imperialists and other reactionaries of the world upon socialist Korea to stifle it.
He expressed hope that the Korean people would achieve greater success in carrying out the socialist cause and building a great prosperous powerful nation under the leadership of Kim Jong Il and demanded the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea.
The chairman of the group said that the Korean people have firmly protected socialism and won great achievements in all domains of the revolution and construction with faith in victory and optimism despite such ordeals as "the Arduous March" which they had to carry out due to the U.S. imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK and natural disasters, adding all these successes are the fruition of the energetic and wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
It is quite natural for the Korean people to build nuclear deterrent under the situation where the U.S. is threatening and blackmailing the DPRK with a preemptive nuclear attack after designating it as part of an "axis of evil", he said, stating that they would always stand firm by the Korean people.

Suppression of Government Employees' Union under Fire in S. Korea

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) --The security authorities of south Korea walked away Ri Pyong Ha, chairman of the South Kyongsang Provincial Headquarters of the Government Employees' Union of south Korea, on Nov. 24 and in this connection the Democratic Workers' Party (DWP) of south Korea is lodging a protest with the present government against its crackdown upon the union and disregard of the progressive political party, according to MBC and KBS. The general secretary of the DWP called a press conference on the same day at which he declared that the action taken by them to let the police break into the office room of a lawmaker of DWP origin and arrested the union leader was, in fact, a move to ignore and suppress the progressive party.
Meanwhile, MP Kang Ki Gap and other leading members of the DWP paid a protest visit to the prime minister on Nov. 25.
They accused the police of breaking into the office room and handed a letter of protest demanding an apology of the prime minister and the dismissal of the minister of Government Administration and Local Autonomy.

Discussed at the ceremony was the issue of supporting with sincerity the building of the monument.
The chairman of the preparatory committee said that it was the unanimous desire of the progressive people of the world to always praise and hold in high esteem the three generals of Mt. Paektu who achieved the liberation of Korea, brought up its people as the most proud and independent people and performed immortal feats for the cause of global independence.
He fully supported the holding of the meeting and erection of the monument.

Candlelight Cultural Event in Seoul

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- A candlelight cultural event was reportedly held in Seoul on November 26. An article to the 17th-term "National Assembly" read out at the 25th day cultural event said that the NA should not indulge in the political disputes but deal with the tasks for democratic reform at an early date.
After the cultural event the participants attempted to make a march toward the NA building.
When the police blocked them, they did not give up their struggle, shouting "Let's achieve democratic reform" and other slogans.

U.S. Anti-DPRK Psychological Warfare under Fire

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- It was recently disclosed by U.S. government sources that the U.S. has made preparations to massively smuggle transistors into the DPRK without let-up as part of its psychological operation to enforce the "North Korean Human Rights Act." It is also contemplating spending 2 million U.S. dollars every year for increasing the broadcasting hours for false propaganda against the DPRK, according to the sources. In another development, new CIA Director Porter Goss ordered the chief of the intelligence operation to conduct offensive intelligence activities against the DPRK.
Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in a signed commentary terms the measures taken by the U.S. to put the "North Korean Human Rights Act" into force in the wake of its adoption in October in a bid to realize a "regime change" in the DPRK a very serious development.
By massively smuggling transistors and publications, video tapes and CDs of undesirable contents the U.S. seeks to disseminate reactionary ideology among Koreans and thus degenerate their sound thinking and mentality and bring down the Korean-style socialist system, the commentary notes, and continues:
The DPRK can not but take a serious view of the U.S. anti-DPRK intelligence campaign, too.
The green light given by the CIA director to the intensified intelligence campaign against the DPRK discloses the real intention of the U.S. to escalate its espionage against the DPRK in real earnest in a bid to gather detailed information about what is happening in its society and on this basis launch armed invasion aimed to bring down its socialist system. This, therefore, can not but be an outright challenge to the DPRK.
The foolish anti-DPRK psychological operation and intelligence campaign can never work on the Korean people.
Given that the U.S. has become all the more frantic in its moves to stifle the DPRK, guided by its logic of strength and doctrine of a "preemptive attack," it goes without saying that the DPRK is left with no option but to significantly increase its deterrent force for self-defense.
The army and people of the DPRK will heighten their revolutionary vigilance and cement the ideo-political position and the front of anti-imperialism and military affairs.

S. Korean "Cooperative Self-Reliant National Defence Plan" Assailed

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- Some time ago, the Defence Ministry of south Korea made public a "cooperative self-reliant national defence plan" under the signboard of "future-orientated development" of the south Korea-U.S. alliance. Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary in this connection says: Under the plan the south Korean military would reorganize the Joint Chiefs of Staff on an expansion basis with a view to strengthening the war execution system and actively pushing forward research and development in the munitions industry. To this end, it is contemplating military spending running into astronomical figures for four years to come. It is a very dangerous development as the move reveals the trigger-happy nature of the south Korean authorities keen to stand in military stand off with the north and launch a war of aggression against it.
Commenting on the "self-reliant national defence" on the lips of the south Korean authorities, the commentary says that it is very self-contradictory for the south Korean authorities to talk about "self-reliance" while they are strengthening the traitorous nexus with the aggression troops stationed in their land despite the outsiders' clear attempt at aggression.
    The commentary continues:
The "cooperative self-reliant national defence" is, in essence, nothing but a traitorous slogan to put south Korea under the U.S tighter military control, strengthen the relations of "cooperation" with the U.S. and round off preparations for a war of aggression against the north.
Now is a reunification-oriented era after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration when all the Koreans are pooling efforts to achieve independent reunification.
The south Korean authorities can never escape bitter curses and denunciation of all the Koreans as they are whetting swords to invade the north in a bid to bring a disaster of war to the Koreans, while giving lip-service to the inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation.

U.S. Scenario for Surprise Preemptive Nuclear Attack Blasted

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- The United States is escalating the offensive to pressurize the DPRK over the nuclear issue while spreading misinformation about the six-party talks. This is a deliberate and planned military provocation to ignite a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary. It goes on:
The U.S. is massively bolstering its naval and air strike forces equipped with ultra-modern military hardware in south Korea, Japan and other areas around the Korean Peninsula under the pretext of "reduction of the U.S. troops stationed in south Korea and security vacuum." This is aimed to carry out its strategic plan to start the second Korean war mainly in reliance upon the above-said forces.
The U.S. bellicose elements seek to occupy a vast front in the air and sea, avoiding clash on the land, and neutralize the DPRK's war capacity through medium- and long-distance strikes and intensive surgical assault. This way they intend to win a blitz war, while minimizing their casualties and material losses as much as possible.
According to its strategy to achieve the war objective by massively mobilizing naval and air forces, the U.S. is deploying a huge naval force including nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines and destroyers and an air force with long distance performance capability and tremendous striking power around the Korean Peninsula.
Meanwhile, the U.S. imperialists have taken a measure to merge their 13th Air Force Command in Guam with their 5th U.S. Air Force Command in Yokota base in Japan. Moreover, they reorganized their commanding system whereby the U.S. Forces Command in Japan is invested with an independent right to command the U.S. ground, naval, air and marine forces in Japan while the operation room of this command is directly linked by satellite communication with the U.S. Pacific Forces Command in Hawaii, the Defense Department and the U.S. president's office of the White House in Washington. These facts eloquently prove that they have become desperate in the moves to realize their wild ambition to invade the DPRK and their projected start of the second Korean war is becoming a reality.
Should the U.S. dare preempt an attack on the DPRK, its army and people will make merciless strikes at the aggressors by mobilizing all their tremendous self-defensive deterrent forces which have been built up for decades, reliably defend the sovereignty of the country and socialism and achieve the historic cause of national reunification.

Korean People's Folk Customs in Winter

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- Korea has four distinct seasons and the people have different customs in each season. There are various folk holidays including Tongji (the winter solstice) in the winter season from October to December of lunar calendar.
Tongji, with the longest night and shortest daytime in the year, is one of the biggest folk holidays.
This day each family has used to prepare red-bean porridge and share it with neighbors, deepening amity with them.
Meanwhile, there are many kinds of winter folk amusements. Among them are top spinning, sledding, snow fight, kite-flying and turning of toy pinwheel.
The winter folk amusements are still popular among children.

Land Conservation in DPRK

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- Great efforts have been made to conserve land in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in recent years. Various projects to plant trees for land conservation, protect terraced plots and edges of paddy and non-paddy fields and improve rivers, streams and waterways have been carried on in the provinces, cities and counties of the country.
More than 56 kilometers of dykes for controlling tidewater damaged by a high tidal wave have been revamped or reinforced with 400,000-odd cubic meters of earth and 120,000-odd square meters of stones in Haeju, Ongjin, Pyoksong, Chongdan, Unryul and Kangryong of South Hwanghae Province on the western coast.
South Phyongan Province has repaired or reinforced hundreds of kilometers of dykes for controlling tidewater, improved long water channels and planted tens of thousands of trees to protect terraced plots.
People in the mountainous areas of Maengsan, Nyongwon, Yangdok and Sinyang have created thousands of hectares of forests to protect land from flood.
Similar projects are going on in North Hwanghae and Kangwon Provinces and northern parts of the country.
North and South Hamgyong Provinces have made turf-covered ridges of terraced plots to prevent them from being washed away.

Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to New Ceramic Factory

Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, gave field guidance to the newly built ceramic factory in a trial operation. All the production processes of the factory based on modern science and technology are computerized.
The construction of the factory with a huge production capacity will make it possible to supply a greater quantity of quality ceramic ware to people.
He learned in detail about the construction of the factory and its production performance, going round various production processes including the combined control panel and the melting kiln for a long while.
He highly praised the party members and other working people of the factory, noting it is great success that they have built a new factory as required by the new century in a matter of a few years with a single desire to build a rich and powerful country and ensured a high level of cultured practice in production and life.
He set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines in the management and operation of the factory, saying that the factory has a big role to play in improving the people's material and cultural life.
In order to increase the production of ceramic ware and supply it to the people it is necessary to give fullest possible play to its production capacity and, at the same time, replenish new processes and steadily apply modern science and technology, he stressed.
He underscored the need to pay special attention to the management of equipment and technical control, steadily raise the level of technical skill of its workers and technicians and conduct a widespread mass technical innovation movement so that the people's wisdom and talent may be reflected in each product.
He also called for paying deep attention to the scientific economic management.
He underlined the need for the officials guiding economy to work out correct economic and business strategies and take initiative and display creative ingenuity and activeness to strictly abide by the WPK's principle of profitability which makes it possible to gain greatest profits while firmly adhering to the socialist principle.
Noting that it is very good for the factory to have built modern entertainment and service facilities and made a good use of them following the lifestyle of the army, he called on the working class to take the lead in introducing the culture created by the servicepersons in the Songun era.
He urged the party organizations to pay primary attention to the supply service in order to provide the working class intensely loyal to the Party and the revolution with ample conditions for their living.
He expressed expectation and conviction that the party members and other working people of the factory would bring about a signal surge in production to positively contribute to improving the standard of the people's living.
He was accompanied by Secretaries of the WPK Central Committee Kim Kuk Thae, Kim Ki Nam and Pak Nam Gi and First Vice Department Director of the WPK Central Committee Ju Kyu Chang.
