Romanian Preparatory Committee Formed
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- An inaugural ceremony of the Romanian preparatory committee for commemorating the Sun's Day (April 15) and the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il (February 16) was held in the building of the Socialist Party of Romania (SPR) on Jan. 10.
Vasile Orleanu, chairman of the SPR Supreme Council, addressing the ceremony, said that it is their tradition to form a preparatory committee for commemorating the Sun's Day and the birthday of Kim Jong Il and organize colorful events every year on the two occasions.
Florentin Oancea, chairman of the Romania-Korea Friendship Association, noted in his speech that as the year 2005 is a very significant year which marks the 60th anniversaries of the foundation of the Workers' Party of Korea and the liberation of Korea, they, too, would organize events of political significance to commemorate the Sun's Day and the February holiday this year.
The two chairmen were elected co-chairmen of the preparatory committee at the ceremony.
The preparatory committee set the period from Jan. 10 to Apr. 15 as a period for commemorating the Sun's Day and Kim Jong Il's birthday and decided to hold colorful events including a meeting, seminar, lecture, photo-exhibition and film show in the period.
Poem Calls for Making 2005 Year of Independent Reunification
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- The January 9 issue of Jaju Minbo, a south Korean newspaper dealing with current issues and political affairs, reportedly posted on its Internet homepage "Poem proclaiming the year of independent reunification" written by its editor Ri Chang Gi. The poem calls for putting a definite end to the U.S. imperialists' 60-year long occupation of south Korea and national division and making 2005 the year of independent reunification and thus letting the generations to come remember it forever.
The Korean people are the most independent nation as they achieved the country's liberation by defeating the Japanese imperialists and stand firm against the U.S., the boss of the world's imperialism, it notes.
It calls upon all the Koreans of the same blood to turn out in the patriotic struggle to drive out of this land the U.S. imperialists and the sycophantic traitorous forces in death-bed struggle.
Noting that the year of independent reunification does not come of itself, the poem says that when the Koreans wage a dynamic struggle to bring earlier the day of reunification by their concerted efforts under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration, the day of independent reunification will break to shed its brilliant rays.
U.S. Urged to Adopt Policy of Peaceful Co-Existence with DPRK
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- The situation on the Korean Peninsula is so tense at present that a war may break out any moment. This is entirely
attributable to the U.S. vicious policy and moves for aggression to stifle the DPRK by force of arms, notes Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed article.
The article refers in detail to the fact the U.S. worked out such scenarios for armed invasion of the DPRK as the "new OPLAN 5026," "OPLAN 5027-04" and "5055" and has already put them into concrete forms. It staged at least 100 joint military exercises with Japan and south Korea every year.
The U.S. imperialists have massively shipped latest war equipment into south Korea and areas around it under the pretext of filling up the "combat forces gap" and "security gap" caused by the implementation of their plan for the redeployment of their forces, the article notes and goes on :
Huge armed forces of the U.S. and south Korea are now deployed in the areas near the Military Demarcation Line to be ready to mount a preemptive attack on the DPRK any time. "Aegis" destroyers of the U.S. 7th Fleet deployed in the East Sea of Korea are now performing their operational duty. The strategic and tactical air force in Okinawa, Guam and other areas has been massively beefed up to strike the DPRK.
Through the "reduction" and redeployment of their forces the U.S. imperialists seek to effectively use Japan as a base for air strike and naval operation, rendezvous of U.S. ground force and a logistic base for fighting a war against the DPRK. Their espionage against the DPRK has been escalated.
The U.S. oft-repeated talk that "it has no intention to mount a military attack on north Korea but wishes to seek a negotiated solution to the nuclear issue" is nothing but a camouflaged peace offensive to further step up its preparations for the second Korean war behind the curtain of "peace and dialogue" and disarm the army and people of the DPRK ideologically and morally.
The U.S. would be well advised to cogitate about the disastrous consequences to be entailed by its start of the second Korean war and make a policy switchover from a hostile policy to a policy of peaceful
co-existence.
S. Korean Religious Elders Write to U.S. President
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- More than 100 religious elders of south Korea mailed a letter calling for the peaceful settlement of the "nuclear issue of the north" to U.S. President Bush on January 11, according to MBC of south Korea.
The political, social, economic and security issues of the Korean Peninsula cannot be resolved by military means, they said in the letter, stressing:
The nuclear issue of the north should be resolved in a peaceful way through dialogue.
Joint Seminar on Songun Policy Held in Mexico
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- A joint seminar on the subject "Songun policy indicating the road to be followed by the cause of independence in the new century" was held in Mexico City on Jan. 8.
Ramon Jimenez Lopez, president of the Mexican Committee for the Study of Kimilsungism, in a speech said it was an epoch-making event that leader Kim Jong Il set out the Songun policy.
President Kim Il Sung founded the people-centred Juche idea to usher in a new era of shaping out their destiny, he noted, adding:
Kim Jong Il's start of the Songun policy brought about such fresh miracles as the firm protection of the sovereignty of the nation and dynamic progress in the socialist cause in the DPRK.
The Songun policy is the most just political mode meeting the need of the present international situation.
The validity and might of the policy have been fully proved in the revolution and construction in the DPRK.
The Songun policy of the DPRK is the only policy indicating the road for the cause of independence to follow in the 21st century.
Juan Campos Vega, chairman of the Mexican Institute for the Study of the Juche Idea, in a speech said that Kim Jong Il's idea and theory of putting forward the army as the mainstay of the revolution and strengthening the revolutionary forces with it as the core are, indeed, new and unique ones.
Material Concealing Truth about "Comfort Women for Japanese Army"@Discovered
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- The Institute for the Study of the Issue of Volunteers' Corps in south Korea discovered the material proving that the Japanese army sought to conceal the truth about the operation of the "comfort women for the army" in an organized manner, MBC of south Korea reported.
It said: Recently the institute discovered in the "State Archives" a list of employees in army units worked out by the Japanese army. It contained the real names of "comfort women" who survived. Those women are recorded there as employees of hospitals at the end of the war.
The truth about the "comfort women" should thoroughly be probed as the list is the first of its kind proving the Japanese army's attempt to conceal it in an organized manner. This material is likely to be used as strong evidence refuting the assertion of the Right-wing elements of Japan denying the system whereby Korean women were forced to serve as comfort women and committing the Japanese government to owning its responsibility and making reparation for it.
Single-minded Unity of Korean People Praised
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- The Korean people have firmly defended their system even under the present complicated international situation because all the army and people have united around leader Kim Jong Il as one in mind.
President of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso said this when meeting with DPRK ambassador to Congo Ri Won Son on Jan. 6.
The Korean people's efforts for the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula are supported by different countries of the world, he noted, adding: The government and people of Congo have backed and cooperated with the Korean people in international arena, valuing the friendly relations with them.
He hoped for closer cooperation and exchange in political, economic and other fields in the future, too. He also expressed the hope that the Korean people will successfully carry out the tasks set forth by the Workers' Party of Korea and the government this year to significantly greet major holidays.
Anniversary of DPRK-Turkey Diplomatic Ties Commemorated
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the Chollima House of Culture on Jan. 14 to commemorate the 4th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Turkey.
It was attended by Jon Yong Jin, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who is chairman of the Korea-Turkey Friendship Association, members of the association and working people in the city.
The chairman of the association made a speech at the meeting.
At the end of the meeting the participants looked round photos introducing Turkey.
Meeting for Friendship with DPRK Held in Japan
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- A meeting for the friendship between Okinawa and the DPRK was held in Okinawa under the sponsorship of the Okinawa, Japan, Liaison Council for the Study of the Juche Idea on the occasion of the New Year.
Present there were Kenichi Ogami, secretary general of the International Institute of the Juche Idea (IIJI), Kenichi Taira, researcher of the IIJI and professor at Okinawa University, Seiichi Sakugawa, president of the Japanese National Liaison Council of Societies for the Study of the Juche Idea, other Japanese followers of the Juche idea and personages from all walks of life active for peace of Okinawa and Japan-DPRK friendship.
At the meeting speakers accused some forces of Japan of frantically kicking up a racket against the DPRK, crying out for "economic sanctions" over the abduction issue in a bid to bring down its system.
They disclosed the fact that Japan is stepping up its moves to emerge a military power under the pretext of "threat from the DPRK" and the U.S. military base in Okinawa is targeted on the Korean Peninsula.
Referring to the Japanese people's struggle for the return of the U.S. military base in Okinawa and peace, they stressed that the reunification of the north and the south of Korea and the establishment of diplomatic ties between Japan and the DPRK would pave the way for settling the issue of the base.
Anti-U.S., Anti-War Struggle Called for
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- Independent and peaceful reunification of the country can never be achieved without the anti-U.S., anti-war struggle to put an end to the U.S. criminal policy of domination over Korea, says Rodong Sinmun in a signed article Saturday.
The article goes on:
Last year the Korean people waged the strenuous struggle with the unanimous desire to implement the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, promote the development of the north-south relations and activate national reconciliation and unity.
The U.S. resorted to all sorts of schemes to realize its aggressive interests and hamstring the Korean nation's cause of peace and reunification last year. This helped the Korean nation to have a serious lesson that it should not have any illusion about the U.S. but counter it in do-or-die spirit.
The Korean Peninsula was exposed to the imminent danger of war all the year round owing to the reckless military provocations of the U.S. imperialist warmongers who made military invasion of sovereign states in disregard of the international law and the United Nations.
But for the invincible arms of Songun defending the national dignity and sovereignty and the country's peace and security, a war would have been ignited in this land by the U.S. imperialist warmongers and the Korean nation would have sustained the disasters of nuclear war, far from achieving national reunification.
Last year the Korean nation got precious experience that national cooperation is strength in the anti-U.S., anti-war struggle against the U.S. imperialists' moves for aggression and interference and that the strong forces of national cooperation can credibly shape the era of reunification with the June 15 joint declaration.
The experience and lesson in the movement for national reunification last year helped the Korean people to clearly understand that national cooperation against the U.S. is the most urgent and vital task in the era of reunification after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration.
All the fellow countrymen in the north, south and overseas should unswervingly carry out the three-point cooperation -- cooperation for national independence, for peace against war and for reunification and patriotism -- in the idea of "By our nation itself" so as to pave a wide avenue for independent reunification in this significant year, true to the militant task set forth in the joint editorial of the papers of the Party, the army and the youth league.
U.S. Urged to Drop Its Policy of Double Standards
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- The United States, a nuclear criminal, is bringing dark clouds of a nuclear war to hang above the world, styling itself a "fair nuclear judge". This policy of double standards is under fire by a signed article of Rodong Sinmun Saturday.
The U.S. policy of double standards is the root cause of throwing the world-wide non-proliferation system into confusion and disturbing international stability, the article says.
It cites facts to lay bare the true colors of the U.S. which has no right to talk about the issue of nuclear proliferation as it is not a "fair nuclear judge" but a manipulator and an arch nuclear proliferator.
This is evidenced by the truth about south Korea's suspected nuclear development which stirred up a world public furor, the article notes, and goes on:
South Korea's secret nuclear activities are a natural outcome of the U.S. policy of double standards.
The U.S. has so far connived at, patronized and cooperated with Israel in its nuclear weaponization on the mere ground that Israel is its "ally." It has also kept mum about and connived at the Japanese reactionaries' nuclear weaponization.
The U.S. is calling into question the so-called "nuclear issue" of those countries which go against the grain with it and styling itself a "nuclear judge" while conniving at, patronizing and cooperating with the pro-American forces and its allies in their development and possession of nuclear weapons from its unilateral and prejudiced stand. This is the height of folly.
The U.S. accusation against the DPRK over its non-existent "uranium enrichment issue" clearly proves that the U.S. policy of double standards assumes extremely partial and aggressive nature.
The U.S. is keen to put the lid even on the peaceful nuclear activities of those countries that court its displeasure by cooking up misinformation about them for the mere reason that their ideas and systems are different from it but transfer nuclear technology to its allies and connive at and back them in their development and possession of nuclear weapons. This shows well how contradictory and biased the U.S. policy of double standards is.
It is a revelation of the worst double-dealing tactics and the height of shamelessness that the U.S. is calling into question the DPRK's legitimate self-defensive step to increase its nuclear deterrent force and seeking to disarm the latter though it overlooks, patronizes and cooperates with its allies in their moves to go nuclear.
If the U.S. is truly interested in the settlement of the nuclear issue, it is well advised to abandon its policy of double standards.
U.S. Urged to Stop Its Rash Acts
Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- Laporte, commander of the south Korea-U.S. combined forces, at a recent New Year interview said that the mission of the forces is to "maintain the deterrent force against north Korea" and they would carry out their "plan to bolster the combat power" by increasing the spending for high-speed transport ships and transport planes capable of rapidly moving huge armed forces in a bid to "maintain reinforcement capability on the Korean Peninsula in case of emergency." These reckless remarks are under fire by a signed commentary of Minju Joson Saturday.
The commentary says:
The DPRK can never overlook the fact that the U.S. is painting itself as a main factor of ensuring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, completely distorting and hyping the situation.
His outbursts only disclosed the U.S. aim to increase the maneuverability of the U.S. armed forces and raise the effectiveness of their aggressive military operation actions against the DPRK.
An extremely tense situation is now prevailing on the peninsula due to the frantic moves of the U.S. to make a sudden strike at the DPRK and occupy it by force of arms, availing itself of "upperhand of strength."
Such being a hard reality, the U.S. is trying to beautify the mission of the U.S. armed forces in south Korea, talking about the "deterrent force against north Korea." This is nothing but a sophism and a foolish ploy to cover up their despicable true colors with a worn-out veil.
The whole history of the anti-imperialist class struggle has taught truth that one should respond to the use of force in kind and this is the way of ensuring peace.
The U.S. imperialists' increased military pressure upon the DPRK would only compel it to more resolutely bolster its forces for self-defence.
The U.S. would be well advised to properly understand this fixed faith and will of the servicepersons and people of the DPRK and stop acting rashly.
