High Vigilance against U.S. Disintegration Moves Urged

Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- All the countries aspiring after independence should counter with high vigilance the U.S. moves to split and disintegrate them from within, clearly seeing their reactionary and dangerous nature, warns Rodong Sinmun Sunday in a signed article. It goes on:
Those countries which are chosen as targets of these schemes of the U.S. are, without exception, socialist countries, independent countries opposed to imperialism, countries disobedient to it and situated at strategic vantages.
What draws attention in its split and disintegration moves is that it is intensifying slanderous false propaganda against the political systems, policies and leadership of those countries and pressure upon them in an effort to discredit their leadership.
Also noteworthy is it that the U.S. is increasing support to the anti-government forces in relevant countries and building up their strength, thereby fostering the fight for power between different political forces and creating internal split and political instability in a bid to find pretexts for interference in internal affairs and pressure and blackmail.
The U.S. is seeking to sap the morale of the people, whip up dissatisfaction among them and disturb public sentiments in the countries which have become the targets of its aggression and interference by distorting their realities in order to bring their internal political situation to a complicate phase.
Special mention should be made of the fact that the U.S. is foolishly attempting to disintegrate and degenerate the interior of the DPRK so as to destroy its single-minded unity and realize the "collapse of its system" by increasing the broadcasting hour of "Free Asia" toward it and massively infiltrating into it portable transistor radios and impure publications and video materials. Such stratagem can never work with the DPRK, even though it may go with other countries.
If vigilance is dulled against such U.S. moves, they may bring no less serious consequences than open military aggression.

S. Korean Student Councils Decide to Wage Joint Struggle

Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- Thirtyone general student councils of south Korea including those of Korea University and Sungkyunkwan University called a press conference on January 16 and announced their decision to wage a joint struggle to check the increase of registration fees, according to south Korean KBS. They declared that they would form a joint measure committee for a stop to the increase of registration fees and revision of the law on private schools and strive together to win the rights of students and, to this end, launch a campaign for the delay of the payment of registration fees, a relay-style one-man protest and so on.

Japan's Compensation to Victims Demanded

Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- The Association of Bereaved Families of the Pacific War Dead and other civic and public organizations on January 17 decided to enter into an action for compensation vis-a-vis the governments of Japan and south Korea, timing to coincide with the publication of some diplomatic documents of the south Korea-Japan talks, according to south Korean MBC. Noting that the Japan government had failed to send back even the remains of victims to the brutality of the Japanese imperialists, they stated they would receive reports from bereaved families and claim reparation for mental damage. They also decided to bring a suit against the government of south Korea to claim compensation to those who were taken away in labor draft during the colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists.
They said they would also prepare a lawsuit concerning renegotiation on the "south Korea-Japan agreement".

Photo Exhibition on Rev. Mun Ik Hwan Opens

Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- An opening ceremony of a photo exhibition on Rev. Mun Ik Hwan was reportedly held at the exhibition hall of the Commemoration Council of the Movement for Democracy in Seoul on January 18. Hung on the wall of the exhibition hall was a photo of President Kim Il Sung receiving him on a visit to Pyongyang in 1989. Photos showing his whole life and books written by him were on display.
Present at the ceremony were Presbyter Pak Yong Gil, widow of Mun Ik Hwan, his family members and democratic figures.
At the ceremony Jang Yong Dal, director general of the Late Spring Commemoration Council of the Late Mun Ik Hwan for Embracing National Reunification, called on all the participants to pool efforts to make 2005 the year of reunification, true to the intention of Rev. Mun, recalling that he devoted everything to reunification, reconciliation and unity of the nation in his lifetime.
Meanwhile, a committee for the promotion of the erection of a monument inscribed with a poem to Rev. Mun Ik Hwan was formed.

National School Youth and Children March Group Leaves Here

Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- A meeting of the national school youth and children march group took place at Mangyongdae Revolutionary School on Jan. 22 to mark the 80th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's 250-mile journey for national liberation and the 30th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's paving the way for the march to study the journey.
The group, consisting of more than exemplary 2,000 school youth and children, will leave Mangyongdae, the cradle of revolution, and arrive in Phophyong, a historic place, through Kaechon, Hyangsan, Kanggye, Hwaphyong and other places.
Present at the meeting were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong Jin, minister of Education, and officials concerned. The participants laid bouquets before the statue of the President standing at the school before making a bow.
Kim Jung Rin conveyed a congratulatory message of the C.C. of the WPK to the members of the march group at the meeting.
The C. C. of the WPK highly appreciates the school youth and children for firmly preparing themselves to be the successors to the revolution boundlessly loyal to the Party and the leader, following the President's 250-mile journey for national liberation every year, noted the message.
It expressed the belief that the participants of the march and all the school youth and children would successfully perform an honorable duty as successors to our revolution, united close around Kim Jong Il in one mind.
A report was made by Kim Kyong Ho, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League and speeches made and then the march group left for Phophyong.

Unjust Judgment in S. Korea Denounced

Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean judicial authorities a few days ago staged a trial of Ri Jong Rin, honorary chairman of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification, on the charge of violation of the "National Security Law". Commenting on this, a Rodong Sinmun analyst Sunday says:
This is an act of denying reconciliation and reunification of the nation and fostering inter-Korean confrontation. This is, in essence, a fascist outrage against the times, an outrage of injustice taunting justice and anti-reunification treachery strangling patriotism for reunification in the June 15 era flowing toward reunification.
Ri Jong Rin is a man who has striven for the patriotic cause of national unity and reunification. Nothing can justify the act of the south Korean judicial authorities in putting such righteous-minded figure on trial, treating him as "a criminal."
Independent reunification is the desire of the fellow countrymen and justice in the national history. Any act against it is a treason infringing upon the national historic cause.
The south Korean judicial authorities have become an old and conservative group opposing democracy and reform and denying inter-Korean reconciliation and reunification, madcap in confrontation and keen on defending the last position of the confrontation era.
Those in judicial robes see the times through the "NSL," now a dead letter, and suppress and punish patriotic figures calling for independence and reunification, not yet shaking themselves free from the consciousness of north-south confrontation and outdated mode of thinking.
The real criminals and first objects of judgment in south Korea are those who are opposed to national reconciliation and independent reunification of the country.
What the south Korean judicial authorities have done can never be pardoned as it causes deep concern over the prospect of the development of the inter-Korean relations and the reunification movement in the New Year, the commentary concludes.

Suppression of Lawmakers from DWP in S. Korea Assailed

Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party issued a statement on Jan. 22, denouncing the crackdown upon national assemblymen from the Democratic Workers' Party by the south Korean prosecution. The prosecution demanded three years' imprisonment for Kwon Yong Gil, lawmaker from the DWP, on the charge of violation of a "provision on banning the interference of a third party" in terms of the "law on coordinating labor disputes" and, earlier, it imposed a fine of 1.5 million won on Jo Sung Su, lawmaker from the party, on the charge of a "canvass in advance."
This is a fascist outrage aimed to push the core elements of the party calling for a progressive policy in south Korea out of the political camp and finally make the party itself impotent, the statement said.
To suppress those who are active for progress and reform by invoking the fascist law which was abolished in 1997 is an act against history and democracy that is intended to turn the south Korean society back to the outdated past days of conservatism and fascism, the statement noted, laying bare the sinister intention of the south Korean authorities to dissolve the party of workers and block the workers' emergence as a political force and the advance of progressive and innovative forces.
It is an anti-historic act to put the brake on the trend of the times and challenge the public sentiments aspiring after a new policy and a new life, the statement said, demanding that the south Korean authorities immediately retract the malicious penalties on the lawmakers and ensure the freedom of the labor movement and activities of the workers' political party.

2005 Onward Meeting of Pomchonghakryon Activists for Reunification Held

Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- The 2005 onward meeting of activists for reunification of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon) to open the year of the U.S. troops' pullout was reportedly held at Sungsil University on Jan. 14 and 15. At the meeting speeches were made by the chairman of the general student council of the university, the chairman of the South Headquarters of Pomchonghakryon and the candidate for chairman of the 13th-term south Korean Federation of University Student Councils and lectures on the Songun politics and the direction of struggle for 2005 were given.
And a lecture titled "Strategic and tactical theory for victorious struggle in 2005" and the "Direction and task of information activity" was sponsored by the South Headquarters of Pomchonghakryon.
Then there were sectional seminars on the subjects "Way to popularize anti-U.S. struggle for withdrawal of the U.S. troops" and "Role of youth and students in inaugurating a joint measure committee for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops."
Meanwhile, the participants held a rally for the review of the onward meeting of activists for reunification and the winter all-out campaign of Pomchonghakryon".
Yun Ki Jin, chairman of the South Headquarters of Pomchonghakryon, in his address called on the youth and students to win a victory in the anti-U.S., anti-war campaign for the withdrawal of the U.S. troops with the faith and conviction to independent reunification this year.
At the end of the meeting they conducted information activities in different areas.

Repeal of "Draft Amendment to Law on Broadcasting" Demanded

Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- The Federation of Media Workers Unions of south Korea made public a statement on Jan. 14 in which it demanded the authorities repeal the "draft amendment to the law on broadcasting" at once, south Korean KBS reported. The statement denounced the recent decision made by the Broadcasting Committee to amend the law on broadcasting as an intrigue to bring KBS under control of the "government" and the political camp, utterly indifferent to its special characteristics.

Adequate Compensation to Victims of Japan's Forcible Drafting Demanded

Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- Victims of forcible drafting by the Japanese imperialists and those concerned of civic and public organizations of south Korea including the Association of Bereaved Families of the Pacific War Dead and the Council for Promoting Compensation to Victims of the Pacific War reportedly held a press conference in Seoul on Jan. 17 demanding the authorities probe the truth about the issue of compensation to the victims. At the press conference speakers recalled that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade declassified some of the diplomatic documents on the same day under the strong pressure of public circles for clarifying details of the humiliating "south Korea-Japan talks".
Some documents related to the "south Korea-Japan agreement" including "data on claim to Japan made at the sixth round of the south Korea-Japan talks" which had been declassified this time are run through with "unreasonable and ambiguous contents", they said, and went on:
It is hard to probe the truth about the compensation for damage done by the Japanese imperialists with these documents.
At the time the talks were held the Japanese government ignored the victims' just demand for compensation, turning its back on the issue of "individual claim".
They criticized the present Japanese government for insisting on its stand that the issue of compensation to "comfort women" has been "settled by a package deal," the issue which was not even discussed at that time.
The main documents of the south Korean "government" related to the "south Korea-Japan talks" as well as the documents of the Japanese government should be declassified to probe the truth about the issue of compensation to the victims, they held, stressing the need to properly settle the past including the revision of the humiliating "south Korea-Japan agreement" through the declassification of the documents.
A statement was issued at the press conference.
At the end of the press conference its participants handed the statement to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Meanwhile, at least 100 members of the Association of Bereaved Families of the Pacific War Dead held a protest rally in front of the ministry and the Japanese embassy that day, strongly demanding the declassification of all documents related to the "south Korea-Japan agreement" and a correct probe into the truth about the compensation to the victims of forcible drafting by the Japanese imperialists.

Foreigners Inspect U.S. Armed Spy Ship "Pueblo"

Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- The United States should draw lessons from its past defeat. If the U.S. forces dare attack the DPRK again, they will not go back alive. Youssef Jazzan, head of a delegation of the High Institute of Political Science of Syria, said this after inspecting the U.S. imperialists' armed spy ship hPuebloh which was captured by the seamen of the Korean People's Army on January 23, Juche 57 (1968), when it was intruding itself into the DPRK territorial waters of the East Sea of Korea. Many foreigners staying in the DPRK visit the spy ship on the Taedong River in Pyongyang.
The spy ship could be captured by KPA seamen with boundless loyalty to their leader, ardent love for the country and the spirit of devoted service to the people, Youssef Jazzan said, and went on:
This is one more event which shattered the myth of the "mightiness" of the U.S. imperialists, giving big shocking to the world.
Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il is a legendary great man and brilliant commander who trained such a strong army, the main force of the revolution.
The head of a Peruvian delegation for the study of the Juche idea, said:
The U.S. imperialists, who were boasting of being "the strongest" in the world, fell on their knees and apologized to the Korean people more than once in the past.
Inspecting the spy ship, we had come to realize the invincible might of the KPA once again.
Martin Lotscher, chairman of the Swiss Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification, pointed out:
The gPuebloh is a historic evidence of what is the end of aggressors.
The armed forces and people of the DPRK showed in practice that they grant neither slightest pardon nor mercy to those encroaching upon the sovereignty and dignity of the country.
The history of the DPRK proves that even a small country may defeat any formidable enemy and defend the gains of revolution, the socialist system and the security of the people when it uncompromisingly fights against the enemy, holding fast to the revolutionary principle.

National Meeting Held

Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- A national meeting was held at the People's Palace of Culture Friday to mark the 80th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's 250-mile journey for national liberation and the 30th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's start of the march to study the journey. Present at the meeting were Choe Thae Bok, Yang Hyong Sop, Kim Jung Rin and others.
Kim Kyong Ho, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, in a report said that the President started the 250-mile journey for national liberation on Jan. 22, Juche 14 (1925) with a noble aim and fixed will to save the country and the nation usurped by the Japanese imperialists.
    The reporter continued:
As a continuation of the journey he led the anti-Japanese war to victory, liberating the country. He founded the Party and the state and strengthened the revolutionary armed forces into the regular armed forces.
Thanks to his great Songun leadership, a brilliant victory was won in the Fatherland Liberation War, the complicated revolutionary tasks at various stages were successfully carried out and the people-centered Korean style socialist system was built in Korea.
As Kim Jong Il started 30 years ago the march to study the historic 250-mile journey for national liberation made by the President, a steady continuity can be given to the long journey for the Songun revolution in the new century, too.
All the youth and students, keenly aware of the need of the Songun era and their honorable mission, should glorify the idea and feats of the President down through generations and bring about a new great revolutionary surge on all fronts of socialist construction so as to make a positive contribution to greeting the 60th anniversaries of the Workers' Party of Korea and the liberation of the country as a great festival of victors.
The youth and students should be true loyalists and young vanguard in the Songun era who always hold the President in high esteem as the eternal sun of Juche and absolutely trust Kim Jong Il and follow him to the end of the world.
Bearing deep in mind that it is most ardent patriotism for the young people in the Songun era to be soldiers of Kim Jong Il and devotedly defend the Party and the leader with arms, they should join the People's Army and firmly prepare themselves as a-match-for-a hundred fighters.
The reporter underscored the need to direct great efforts to the anti-U.S. class education to help them always maintain a high degree of revolutionary vigilance against the U.S. imperialists' moves for a new war and not to allow the imperialists' reactionary harmful idea and corrupt bourgeois way of life to infiltrate into the society even a bit.

Militarist Fanatic's Anti-DPRK Reckless Remarks under Fire

Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- Abe, acting secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, in recent TV appearances told rubbish that Hwang Ho Nam and Jong Nam Yong who had participated in a mock tribunal on the issue of Japan's wartime sex slavery in the capacity of the then secretary general and permanent member of the DPRK Measure Committee for Demanding Compensation to Comfort Women for the Japanese Army and the Victims of the Pacific War, were "operatives from north Korea." A signed commentary of Rodong Sinmun Saturday terms his reckless remarks a last-ditch effort of a militarist fanatic to bring a groundless charge against the DPRK in a bid to bar Japan from redressing the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists against the Korean people in the past and give vent to his grudge against the DPRK by hurting its dignity and authority with such accusation and vituperation.
The mock trial was held under the sponsorship of the International Action Committee grouping seven organizations of Korea, China, Philippines and Indonesia, victims, and Japan, the assailant, to blame the Japanese government for the sexual slavery for the imperial Japanese army and the participants of the trial bitterly denounced the crimes committed by the former imperial Japanese army against Korea and other Asian countries.
Members of the DPRK side who had participated in the trial are well known to the media and figures from all walks of life in Japan.
Abe's sophism is nothing but false propaganda deliberately made by a sheer quack and intolerable outcries challenging world conscience strongly critical of the Japanese imperialists who forced 200,000 Korean women into sexual slavery during their war and slinging mud at the DPRK.
It can not but be shame and disgrace for Japan that such hysteric who goes mad with militarism and national chauvinism is allowed to exercise power, holding an important post in the No.1 ruling party.
The army and people in the DPRK have deep-rooted grudge against Japan.
They will certainly force Abe and other ultra-right forces of Japan to pay for all their monstrous crimes committed against the DPRK.

Fight against Sycophantic and Traitorous Forces Urged

Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- The people from all walks of life in south Korea should wage a more vigorous mass struggle to isolate and weaken such sycophantic and traitorous forces as the Grand National Party and entomb them to the last, urges Rodong Sinmun in a signed article today. It says: Those forces are the traitors who barter away the dignity and interests of the country and the nation while depending on outsiders and fawning on them.
They are vicious and die-hard separatists keen on confrontation between fellow countrymen and war and acts against reunification, subservient to the outside aggressor forces.
The GNP clan of south Korea is a group of most wicked traitors and separatists who, crazy with pro-American and anti-reunification activities, are working hard to hurt the nation's interests and stem the trend of the times toward independent reunification.
The pro-reunification democratic forces and all other people in south Korea should concentrate efforts on the fight to entomb such sycophantic and traitorous forces as the GNP to the last. Of course, those mad with pro-Americanism and anti-reunification acts are very small in number in south Korea and their attempt is no more than a last-ditch effort. However, in case the moves of such forces under the U.S. protection are overlooked, ultra-right conservative, pro-American forces may gain power in south Korea and, in the long run, there may return the era of fascist dictatorship, which should never be allowed in any case.

Delegation of Kim Il Sung University Leaves for Russia

Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- A delegation of Kim Il Sung University headed by its President Song Ja Rip left here today to participate in the commemorations of the 250th anniversary of the foundation of Moscow M.V. Lomonosov State University in Russia. It was seen off at the airport by O Kil Bang, vice-president of Kim Il Sung University, and Andrei Karlov, Russian ambassador to the DPRK.

"Pueblo" Incident Reveals U.S. Brazenness

Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- January 23, 1968 was one of the ignominious days for the United States, which was boasting of being a "super power". That day the U.S. armed spy ship "Pueblo" was captured by the Navy of the Korean People's Army in the territorial waters of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The U.S. was condemned by world public for the shocking incident. It, however, had the effrontery to misinform the world public about the incident and present a military threat to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
But the DPRK took a firm stand to answer retaliation with retaliation and counter a total war with a total war. In December 1968 the U.S. could not but sign a document in which the U.S. government apologized to the DPRK for the reconnaissance and promised not to allow any ship of the U.S. to enter the DPRK's territorial water again.
The incident gave a serious lesson to the arrogant U.S.
The U.S. is lost to shame, though.
Hardly the ink of its signature to the document became dry when the U.S. reconnaissance plane EC-121 (in April 1969) and a helicopter OAH-23G (in August 1969) entered the territorial air of the DPRK for the purpose of reconnaissance but were shot down by the KPA.
The U.S. committed hostile acts against the DPRK on over 10,000 occasions in violation of the Armistice Agreement in 1969 alone.
Over the past three decades since the year, the U.S. has continued anti-DPRK provocations on the ground and sea and in air, typical of them being the West Sea incident in February 1974, the East Sea incident in June 1974 and the Panmunjom shooting incident in November 1984.
In recent years it worked out such nuclear war plans against the DPRK as "New Operation Plan 5026" and "Operation Plan 5027-04".
But all of them are sure to meet failure.
The U.S. would be well advised to draw a proper lesson from the "Pueblo" incident.

Students' "Journey for National Liberation" Continues in DPRK

Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- Thousands of students from throughout the Democratic People's Republic of Korea left Mangyongdae in Pyongyang on Saturday for "250-mile Journey for National Liberation". Before starting, they had a ceremony on the campus of Mangyongdae Revolutionary School to mark the 80th anniversary of the "250-mile Journey for National Liberation" made by President Kim Il Sung in his teens (January 22, 1925).
They will march along the course of his journey including Kaechon, Hyangsan, Kanggye, Hwaphyong and Phophyong.
Such marches of different scales have taken place in the country every year since Juche 64 (1975) reflecting the unanimous desire of all the students to learn from the President's lofty intention for the country's liberation.
Jo Yong Hun, a department director of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, said in an interview with KCNA that the marches have been participated in by more than 400,000 students.
During the march from Mangyongdae to Phophyong, the marchers have seminars on the President's reminiscences "With the Century" and his famous works, visit to revolutionary sites, sessions of poem recitation, group dancing and other political and cultural activities.
Through the march they get a better knowledge of the President's far-sighted intention and train their will and physical strength.

EE.UU.- pais desvergonzado
