     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- A lecture was sponsored by the Poland-Korea Association on Jan. 28 on the occasion of the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il. Slaboy January Guzowski, representative of the C. C., the Poland-Korea Association, in his lecture titled "On the Juche Idea and Songun Politics" explained the main reason why the DPRK remains a beacon of hope and model for the world progressives even under the complicated world situation.
    Thanks to the unique Songun politics of Kim Jong Il, the DPRK is demonstrating its might, standing firm against the U.S. styling itself "the world's only superpower" and stating what it wants to say, he noted.
    A film show was held at Kim Jong Il Class of Kitante Primary School in Kampala on Jan. 29 under the sponsorship of the Ugandan preparatory committee for the "meeting praising the great persons of Mt. Paektu."
    After watching a Korean film "Brilliant History of the Great Leadership" the school master said that the DPRK has become a politically and militarily strong country under the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il and highly praised the advantages of its educational system.

Former Chairman of Hanchongryon Arrested

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- The south Korean security authorities walked off Chairman of the 9th-term south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) Choe Sung Hwan on the charge of violation of the draconic "National Security Law" on Jan. 29, according to a press report. He is reportedly under investigation in detention though he had been under treatment in Seoul for his illness that turned worse due to his life exposed to protracted police search.

Reception Held at Syrian Embassy

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Syrian Charge d'Affaires ad Interim Muhammad Adib Alhani hosted a reception at the embassy here Wednesday evening to celebrate the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il (February 16). Present there on invitation were Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun, Minister of Foreign Trade Rim Kyong Man, Minister of Education Kim Yong Jin, Vice Department Director of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea Pak Kyong Son, Vice-Minister of the People's Armed Forces Kim Sang Ik, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Choe Su Hon, Vice-Chairman of the Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries Jon Hyon Chan, and officials concerned. Alhani said in his speech that the friendly relations between Syria and the DPRK have made great progress under the deep care of leader Kim Jong Il and President Bashar al-Assad.
    The Korean people have registered great success in their efforts to build a great prosperous powerful nation and reunify the country under the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il, he noted.
    He expressed belief that the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation would grow stronger in various fields in the future, too.
    Paek Nam Sun in his speech said it is strong encouragement to the army and people of the DPRK accelerating the general march of the Songun revolution that close friends of Syria have expressed deep respect and reverence for Kim Jong Il, celebrating the significant February holiday together with the Korean people.
    The friendly and cooperative relations between the DPRK and Syria provided by President Kim Il Sung, the great leader of the Korean people, and Hafez al-Assad, the eternal leader of the Syrian people, are now growing stronger as the days go by under the deep care of the leaders of the two countries, he noted, adding that true to the noble intention of Kim Jong Il, the Korean people would strive hard to boost the friendly relationship with Syria.

Plot to Eliminate Progressive Lawmakers in S. Korea Assailed

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- We bitterly denounce the ongoing reckless actions in south Korea to eliminate lawmakers from the Uri Party and the Democratic Workers' Party as a challenge to the south Korean people aspiring after new politics and new society and as an intolerable criminal act going against the desire of the fellow countrymen for peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula. A spokesman for the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland said this in a statement on Wednesday. He continued:
    This is nothing but a premeditated political coup to upset the balance of forces in the "National Assembly" where the ruling party holds the majority while the opposition camp minority and set the stage for the Grand National Party, a group of pro-American fascists, to grab "power" in the next term with the U.S. backing, come what may.
    This coup arousing apprehension of people is a serious development that can never be overlooked by any Korean no matter where he lives, because it is aimed to block the process for independence and democracy in the south Korean society and hamstring the implementation of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.
    If the GNP and other right-wing fascist forces again dominate the NA in south Korea, it will turn into a theatre of rowdyism of the fascist gangster party and there will be the same fascist rule as was enforced in the past period of military dictatorship. In consequence, the north-south relations will be brought back to those in the era of confrontation and the holocaust of a nuclear war will be imposed upon the Korean nation.

Anti-U.S. Rally Held in Seoul

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- A rally for shattering the U.S. moves for a war on the Korean Peninsula and getting the U.S. troops withdrawn from south Korea was held in Seoul on Jan. 29 under the co-sponsorship of the Headquarters for the People's Movement for the Withdrawal of the U.S. Troops, the Solidarity for the Implementation of the South-North Joint Declaration, the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) and the Solidarity of Youth and Students for the Implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration, according to a news report. At the rally speakers said that the plan for U.S. arms buildup is a plot to ignite a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula and if the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek is expanded according to the plan, the military and material foundations will be laid to mount a preemptive attack on the north.
    Stressing the need to foil the U.S. hard-line policy toward the north and its war moves, they declared that if the U.S. attacks the Korean nation with nukes, it will repel the aggression by the force of its great unity and Songun.
    A resolution read out at the rally said that neither democracy nor the people's living nor peace nor the reunification of the country can be realized as long as the U.S. domination and military presence go on.
    The way out for our nation is to put an end to the 60-year-long U.S. military presence, it added.
    At the end of the rally deputies to Hanchongryon and students under it marched, shouting slogans "Let's enable our nation to live free from U.S. troops," "No National Security Law" and "No labeling Hanchongryon as an enemy-benefiting organization."
    Song Hyo Won, chairperson of the 13th-term Hanchongryon, said it is sheer nonsense to claim that the just activities of the organization are punishable, adding that it would launch a mass struggle for the total repeal of the NSL.

Rally for Repeal of NSL and Removal of Conservative Forces Held in@S. Korea

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- A rally for proclaiming the February struggle for the repeal of the "National Security Law" and removal of conservative forces was held in Seoul on Jan. 29 under the sponsorship of the People's Solidarity for the Repeal of the NSL, according to a press report. Kwon O Hon, chairman of the Society for Supporting Prisoners of Conscience of the Family Movement for Realizing Democracy, said at the rally that the NSL is an evil law blocking the freedom of ideology and conscience and the independent reunification of the country, calling for having the evil law scrapped at the "extraordinary National Assembly session" in February without fail.
    Im Pang Gyu, co-representative of Reunification Square, called for tearing up the evil law at any cost, saying the anti-reunification forces including the Grand National Party working desperately to maintain the evil law were inferior to beasts.
    Song Hyo Won, chairperson of the 13th-term Hanchongryon, called upon the students to shoot the tracer shell of an all-people resistance for the repeal of the evil law, taking the van in it.

Cultural Event Held in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- A cultural event for inheriting the spirit of Kim Ryang Mu, a pro-reunification patriotic martyr, on the fifth anniversary of his death was reportedly held at Kyunghee University in Seoul on Jan. 29 with the attendance of his family members and members of civic and public organizations, at least 500 in all, under the sponsorship of the committee for the promotion of the event. At the cultural event Yun Han Thak, chairman of the Association for Inheriting the Spirit of Pro-Reunification Patriotic Martyr Kim Ryang Mu, called for fighting in the spirit of certainly accomplishing the cause of reunification this year, true to the intention of the patriotic martyr who desired national reunification till the last moments of his life. An art performance was given by the central literary and art group of Hanchongryon (south Korean Federation of University Student Councils) and others at the event.

Kim Yong Nam Greets Sri Lankan President

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, Thursday sent a message of greetings to Sri Lankan President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga on the day of its independence. Expressing belief that the cooperative relations between the two friendly countries would grow stronger in the interests of the two peoples, the message wished the government and the people of Sri Lanka stability, prosperity and welfare.

Message of Sympathy to Guyanese President

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme Peoplefs Assembly, on Jan. 31 sent a message of sympathy to Bharrat Jagdeo, president of Guyana , as regards the heavy rain and flood that hit his country, claiming great casualties and material damage. The message sincerely hoped that the Guyanese government would eradicate the aftermath of natural disasters as early as possible and bring the living of the people in the afflicted area to normal.

Kim Yong Nam Greets Vietnamese President

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- President Kim Yong Nam of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly on Jan. 31 sent a message of greetings to Tran Duc Luong, Vietnamese president, on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic ties between the DPRK and Vietnam. Congratulating the Vietnamese president, the message wished him success in his work.

Felicitations to Sri Lankan Prime Minister

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Premier of the DPRK Cabinet Pak Pong Ju sent a congratulatory message to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse on the day of its independence. Expressing the conviction that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would steadily grow in scope and develop in various domains, it sincerely wished the prime minister greater success in his work for the stability and prosperity of the country.
    Meanwhile, DPRK Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun sent a congratulatory message to Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar.

Meeting for General March of Songun Revolution Closes

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- The meeting for the general march of the Songun revolution, the first of its kind in the DPRK, closed Thursday after successfully concluding its work. At the two-day meeting Pak Pong Ju, premier of the Cabinet, delivered a report titled "Let's dynamically step up the general march of the Songun revolution under the leadership of the great party to attain the high goal of building a great prosperous powerful nation." It was followed by speeches of more than 20 delegates of the army and various public circles who have performed shining exploits in the confrontation with the U.S. and in the drive to build a great prosperous powerful nation.
    The meeting manifested the steadfast faith and will of the army and people of the DPRK to implement to the letter the tasks set forth in the congratulatory message of the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea under the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    The message called on the participants of the meeting to display intense loyalty and devotion in making a breakthrough in a new advance and thus demonstrate the honor of being pace-setters in the general march of the Songun revolution.
    Speakers vowed to resolutely foil the U.S. imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK through the general march of the Songun revolution, open a great turning phase in carrying out the cause of building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation and glorify this as the most fruitful year in the history of the country, a year which will strikingly demonstrate the might of Songun.

The appeal said: There will be a bright prospect of the country's grandeur and prosperity if we make a new charge from the forward line which we had occupied through the hard struggle waged during the "Arduous March." But, any hesitation or step back would scuttle the plan of our revolution for the eternal prosperity of the country.
    The U.S. imperialists are now making last-ditch efforts to realize their ambition to stifle the DPRK at any cost. We are now standing at the crossroads of whether we will remain eternal masters of our destiny or become slaves of imperialism. We should choose the first by launching a decisive general march. "All for an all-out charge to glorify the 60th anniversaries of the foundation of the WPK and the liberation of the country as grand festivals of victors of the Songun revolution!" Sharp Increase of Participants in Flower Festival Expected

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- It is expected that more and more units will participate in the forthcoming 9th Kimjongilia Festival that will be larger in scale than the last one, said Ri Pyong Pha, a department director of the Korean Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Committee in an interview with KCNA. The increasing number of the participants in the traditional festival ever since its first round in Juche 86(1997) has always needed additional steps.
    The 9th festival (from February 12 to 21) will be held on an unprecedented scale this year which marks the 60th anniversaries of the Workers' Party of Korea and national liberation.
    More units and people in Pyongyang and local areas are still applying to the organizing committee for their participation.
    The festival committee plans to arrange the festival venue in a three-dimensional way so as to meet the demand of the applicants.
    The forthcoming festival, which will be held to celebrate leader Kim Jong Il's birthday, will surely reflect the ardent reverence of the Korean people for him.

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Researchers of Kim Il Sung University of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have developed efficacious medicines with natural minerals abundant in the country as raw materials. Among them is Sindaesan which has antibiotic effect but no side-effect on liver at all. Peasants Enjoy Holidays

     Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Agricultural working people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are enjoying holidays at rest homes under the popular policy of the Workers' Party and government. Director Han Myong Son of the Recreation Department of the Ministry of Labor told KCNA that peasants enjoy themselves at rest centers from December to next February every year.
    Leader Kim Jong Il took measures to build more modern rest homes in scenic spots to provide better recreation conditions to working people even during the "Arduous March" and the forced march.
    Over the last decade, many rest homes have been built or reconstructed on an expansion basis. Among the newly built ones are the rest home for peasants in Pongsan County, North Hwanghae Province, and the Sambong rest home for working people in Thaethan County, South Hwanghae Province.
    A large number of peasants are spending their holidays at rest homes in different parts of the country including the Kobangsan, Myohyangsan and Sokdamgugok Rest Centers.
    During the vacation, they visit revolutionary battle and historic sites, exchange their farming experience with each other and play colorful sports and amusement games.

Trabajadores agricolas estan de vacaciones en centros de reposo

     Pyongyang, 3 de febrero (ATCC) -- Los trabajadores agricolas de Corea, con gran orgullo de ser encargados del sector agricola, frente principal de la construccion economica socialista, aceleran los preparativos para el cultivo de este ano en todos los campos cooperativistas socialistas. En estos dias estan muy atareados al cumplir muchos trabajos con una actitud de dueno segun la demanda del metodo de cultivo jucheano para recoger una abundante cosecha en el otono. Pero, se benefician invariablemente de las medidas populares del partido y el Estado.
    Segun el jefe de departamento encargado de vacacionistas del Ministerio del Trabajo, Han Myong Son, cobran mas auge este ano las vacaciones de los campesinos de diciembre a febrero del ano venidero.
    El Dirigente Kim Jong Il, en el tiempo de la "marcha penosa" y la marcha forzada, al subrayar la necesidad de asegurar mejores condiciones de descanso cultural a los trabajadores, tomo las medidas benevolentes de construir modernos centros de reposo en los lugares pintorescos.

RPDC: nuevos medicamentos

     Pyongyang, 3 de febrero (ATCC) -- Recientemente la Universidad Kim Il Sung desarrollo nuevos medicamentos eficaces a base de las sustancias extractas de minerales naturales abundantes en Corea. Se tratan de farmacos hechos con minerales desnaturalizados y luego procesados con la tecnica de ultima generacion.
    Entre estos figuran "Sindaesan", antibiotico que no causa danos al higado.
    Las sustancias activas fisiologicas y otros ingredientes virtuales de esta medicina sirven de desinfectantes y antidotos y curan la diarrea y la inflamacion.
    Tiene especial virtud en el tratamiento de enfermedades intestinales como la inflamacion del intestino grueso, la disenteria y la tuberculosis intestinal, aparte del botulismo e intoxicacion por medicina.

FDRP condena farsa de eliminacion a "parlamentarios" progresistas

     Pyongyang, 3 de febrero (ATCC) -- En estos tiempos, en el Sur de Corea se arma un escandalo de eliminacion a los "parlamentarios" pertenecientes al "Partido Uri" y del Partido de Trabajadores Democraticos. Esto es un desafio a los habitants surcoreanos aspirantes a una nueva politica y nueva sociedad y un imperdonable crimen que pisotea la aspiracion de toda la nacion a la paz y la reunificacion de la Peninsula Coreana. Senalo asi el Comite Central del Frente Democratico para la Reunificacion de la Patria (FDRP) en su declaracion fechada 2 y prosiguio:
    Tal escandalo que se arma bajo la manipulacion trasera de EE.UU. deviene un premeditado golpe de Estado politico para convertir la actual "Asamblea Nacional" de mayoria del partido gobernante en la de mayoria del opositor y facilitar al "Partido Hannara" a arrebatar el "poder" en las proximas elecciones presidenciales.
    Este golpe de Estado politico, de que se preocupa mucho la gente, parte de un malsano objetivo de detener la lucha por la independencia y la democratizacion de la sociedad surcoreana y obstaculizar la ejecucion de la Declaracion Conjunta Norte-Sur del 15 de Junio. Por lo tanto, constituye un serio problema de que no pueden estar indiferentes todos los coreanos que viven en esta patria.
    En el caso de que el "Partido Hannara" y otras fuerzas fascistas derechistas se apoderen de Nuevo del "parlamento", este se convertira en una escena caotica por este partido gangsteril fascista, reaparecera en la sociedad surcoreana tal dominacion fascista analoga a la dictadura militar del pasado, las relaciones Norte-Sur se revertiran a la epoca de confrontacion y la nacion coreana sufrira desastres de guerra nuclear.

Clausurada conferencia de marcha general revolucionaria del Songun

     Pyongyang, 3 de febrero (ATCC) ? Quedo clausurada el dia 3 la Conferencia de Marcha General Revolucionaria del Songun (priorizacion militar) iniciada el dia 2 por primera vez en Corea. En la primera y segunda jornadas de la conferencia el informe intitulado "Conquistemos la alta meta de gran potencia prospera con la energica marcha general por la revolucion mediante el Songun siguiendo a la direccion del gran partido" estuvo a cargo del premier del Consejo de Ministros Pak Pong Ju e hicieron discursos mas de 20 delegados del ejercito y de distintos sectores sociales quienes obtuvieron meritos brillantes en la batalla antiyanqui y en la lucha por la construccion de una gran potencia prospera.
    Los oradores expresaron firme conviccion y voluntad del ejercito y el pueblo de Corea de materializar cabalmente bajo la direccion del Dirigente Kim Jong Il mediante el Songun las tareas presentadas en el mensaje de felicitacion del Comite Central y la Comision Militar Central, del Partido del Trabajo de Corea.
    El mensaje subraya que todos los participantes en el foro deben abrir una brecha de nuevo avance sirviendo de ejemplos de infinita fidelidad y abnegacion para exaltar el honor de precursores en la marcha general revolucionaria del Songun.
    Los oradores expresaron sus decisiones de frustrar tajantemente con la citada marcha general las maquinaciones de aislamiento y aplastamiento del imperialismo norteamericano y de abrir una nueva fase de viraje en el cumplimiento de la causa de construccion de una gran prospera socialista para asi registrar el presente en los anales de la patria como el ano mas digno por el poderio del Songun.
    En el conclave se aprobo un llamamiento a todos los oficiales y soldados del ejercito popular y el pueblo.
