Japan's Moves to Infringe upon Sovereignty of Tok Islet Denounced
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The "Council of Religious Leaders" of south Korea held a meeting on Tok Islet on Mar. 26 at which it branded Japan's claim to the islet as a blatant provocative act of infringing upon the territorial integrity of Korea and its national sovereignty, according to south Korean MBC.
The organization held that this situation is attributable to Japan's distortion of history and moves to revive militarism, strongly demanding the government's strong retaliation against them and an apology from Tokyo.
U.S. Cold War-Minded Political Mode Assailed
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- Peru's well known news commentator Juan Mariategui wrote a book "Review of International Politics". Under the first title "Peace Talks. Cold War Persists on the Korean Peninsula" of the Asian Part of the Fifth Charter of the book, he referred to the fact that the Korean Peninsula was divided by the U.S. imperialists' occupation of south Korea in 1945 and the Korean war broke out in 1950. In the book he also dealt with the atrocities perpetrated by the U.S. imperialists against south Koreans and the arrogant behaviour of the U.S. blaming the nuclear activities of the DPRK while conniving at the production of nuclear weapons
by other countries.
He continued: The U.S. is persistently applying the political mode dating back to the Cold War era to the Korean Peninsula even today when the world structure of the Cold War was destroyed to open a U.S. unipolar era. The U.S. imperialists staged an aggressive joint military exercise with south Korea every year. They have rearmed Japan and egged it on to pursue a hostile policy towards north Korea.
Various attempts were made by the north and the south in the past to achieve Korea's reunification. However, they proved futile due to the interference by the U.S. and Japan. The issue of the Korean Peninsula should be settled through dialogue free from foreign interference under any circumstances.
President Kim Il Sung provided a number of meetings and talks for the country's reunification between the north and the south in the wake of the joint conference of representatives of political parties and public organizations in north and south Korea held in April 1948. Then he put forward the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, the 10-Point Programme of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country and so on to indicate ways of achieving the
country's reunification. The reunification of the Korean Peninsula should be achieved peacefully, not by a war, pursuant to this policy and the Korean Armistice Agreement should be replaced by a peace agreement.
S. Korean Youth and Students Urged to Play Vanguard Role
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front Wednesday released slogans for its immediate struggle. They called on the south Korean youth and students to play a vanguard and leading role in the struggle to achieve independence, democracy and reunification this year that marks the 60th anniversary of national liberation and the 60th year since the U.S. troops' occupation of south Korea, according to the Kuguk Jonson Internet site.
The slogans described the youth and students as the masters responsible for the future and a dynamic force for national reunification, calling on them to turn out as one to achieve cooperation for reunification and patriotism.
They also urged the youth and students in the south, the north and abroad to unite close and pull down the barrier of division and emerge the first generation of reunified Korea.
They underscored the need for them to increase in every way their leading role in the anti-U.S. and anti-war struggle as the vanguard who launched a fierce anti-U.S. struggle in south Korea, once known to be a tranquil area outside the anti-U.S. turmoil, and make this year the year of the U.S. troops' pullout from it.
They called for shattering Japan's wild ambition for territorial aggrandizement and ostracizing the Grand National Party, the most evil party dreaming of fascist dictatorship.
Cuban Diplomats Visit Revolutionary Site
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- Ruven Perez Valdes, Cuban ambassador to the DPRK, and staff members of the Cuban embassy here visited a revolutionary site associated with the Fatherland Liberation War on March 31 on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.
Being briefed on fact that President Kim Il Sung had the supreme command of the Korean People's Army there and led the whole party and army and all the people to victory with his Juche-oriented military idea and strategy and tactics and preeminent commandership during the war, they went round the command post and the operation room of the supreme command and different buildings associated with his activities.
At the end of the visit, the ambassador said that the Cuban people are firmly convinced that the People's Army grown to be invincible armed forces under the leadership of Kim Jong Il and people of the DPRK would surely emerge victorious in the struggle to defend the dignity of the nation and the sovereignty of the country, to build a great prosperous powerful nation and achieve the reunification of the country.
He wrote on the visitor's book that the visit to the site has offered an opportunity to know well that Kim Jong Il had grown up there in the days of the war, nurturing qualifications as a great statesman and strategist.
Struggling with Physical Strength to Protect Human Rights Called for
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- A DPRK delegate, participating in the discussion on item 9 "Human rights performance in all countries of the world" at the 61st meeting of the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva on March 23, accused the EU of its dastardly act of seeking only its selfish political purpose, backing the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK.
He said: The United States is so foolish as to work hard to apply to the DPRK the "human rights" standards it has used for launching aggression and war against other countries and toppling their governments, turning a blind eye to its poor human rights record.
The U.S. adopted the ill-famed "North Korean Human Rights Act" last year, a typical example of its attempt at "bringing down" the system of the DPRK under the pretext of "human rights". Its behaviour forcing other countries to change even their political systems and ways of life is nothing but the gravest human rights abuse.
The present reality teaches a lesson that it is the only option for protecting the genuine human rights to struggle against the U.S. with physical strength as long as its policy remains unchanged.
The evermore undisguised policy pursued by the U.S. and the EU to isolate and stifle the DPRK under the pretext of its "human rights issue" will only harden the resolution and will of the Korean people to defend the socialist system chosen by themselves and their independent life and prompt them to fight against the policy to the last.
Koreans Called Upon to Punish Japanese
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The Pusan citizens' rally against the revival of Japanese militarism was reportedly held on March 26 under the sponsorship of the Pusan Measure Council to Defend Tok Islet, Stop the Distortion of History and the Revival of Japanese Militarism.
The speakers at the rally said that Japan's moves to revive militarism have just begun, calling on all the people to react with vigilance to Japan's moves to grab Tok Islet and distort history textbooks.
The U.S. should never be pardoned for having zealously defended and encouraged Japan's moves to revive militarism, they said, adding that it is high time all the Koreans pooled efforts to frustrate the crafty moves of foreign forces.
The council declared that it would wage diverse struggles to defend Tok Islet, urge Japan to stop distorting its history, oppose Japan's bid for permanent membership of the UNSC and wrest Japan's apology and compensation for the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army.
At the end of the rally the participants burnt a Japanese flag and staged a demonstration in front of the Japanese Consulate General, shouting slogans "Tok Islet belongs to Korea" and "Shut down Japanese Consulate General."
Japan's Distortion of History Flailed
Tokyo, March 30 (KNS-KCNA) -- The Union of Korean Teachers and School Clerks in Japan released a statement on March 25 to denounce the Japanese
right-wing forces for their evermore undisguised move to distort history.
Referring to the fact that the Society for History Textbook Reform, an ultra-right conservative group, presented again a distorted history textbook for screening, in which the Japanese imperialists' invasion of Korea is justified much more, the statement said this has ignited resentment of peoples of many Asian countries.
The Japanese right-wing reactionaries in the history textbook seriously distorted the ancient and mediaeval history of Korea on the basis of the rabid "imperial view on history". In its part of modern history they embellished the Japanese imperialists' aggression and colonial rule over Korea, going against elementary common sense, the statement said, adding:
Such frantic moves of Japan are intended to cover up its crime-woven past history and realize its felon militarist ambition at all costs.
It strongly demanded that Japan honestly admit its disgraceful past, make a sincere apology and compensation for it and promptly stop the reckless moves for twisting the history.
Efforts to Glorify Kim Il Sung's Feats Called for
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today editorially calls upon the people to do their utmost to add luster to the exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung in building a rich and powerful country.
The ideas, line and policies advanced by the President with his clairvoyant wisdom serve as steadfast guidelines in building such a country, and the solid foundations of independent economy and production potentials built with his iron will and distinguished leadership are very valuable assets for the country's eternal prosperity, the editorial notes, and goes on:
Basing himself on the Juche idea, Kim Il Sung unrolled clear-cut blueprints for building the country in every period and at every stage of the developing revolution. His Juche idea serves as a banner to be held aloft by the Korean people in building a rich and powerful country and his working method is the revolutionary one applied by them to practice. His behest serves as the lifeline for building such a country.
He led the two revolutionary wars and the social revolution at two stages to victory and laid solid foundations for the eternal prosperity of Songun Korea, while turning misfortune into a blessing and adversity into favorable conditions. Thanks to these foundations, the DPRK is now demonstrating its might as a country strong in ideology, a military power and a country with strong independent national economy.
It is necessary to further strengthen and glorify the revolutionary party of Juche type, the invincible revolutionary armed forces, the single-minded unity of the party, the army and the people around the headquarters of the revolution, the independent national economy and the foundations of self-reliant national defence industry, to which he dedicated himself all his life.
No other country could look down upon the DPRK or dare provoke it because the authority of the President remains unquestioned.
His cause of building a rich and powerful country is now being creditably carried out by leader Kim Jong Il.
Kim Jong Il's Songun leadership is solely geared into materializing the President's idea and glorifying his feats. We should once again make a world-startling leaping advance and innovations in the ongoing general march for the Songun revolution with the same ardent patriotic enthusiasm and the persevering will as were displayed in the period when the Korean people hewed an untrodden path to build a country and built a powerful socialist country on debris under the guidance of the President and in the same spirit as was displayed in the period of the "Arduous March" when a breakthrough
was made in the efforts to build a great prosperous powerful nation despite stern trials.
The editorial urges all the people to bring about a radical turn in the economic construction and the improvement of standard of people's living under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il this significant year which marks the 60th anniversaries of the Workers' Party of Korea and the liberation of the country and thus eternally glorify the feats performed by the President in building a rich and powerful country.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Frustrating U.S. Carrot and Stick Policy
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists have become more sinister and crafty in their carrot and stick policy towards the DPRK and other countries.
The U.S. could not behave as it pleased when the former Soviet Union stood firm against it. But when renegades of socialism came to power and made one concession after another, the U.S. took a tough attitude towards it and buckled down to bringing it to a collapse. Its carrot tactics succeeded in doing so.
After the Gulfs War, the U.S. put pressure upon Iraq in various aspects.
When Iraq yielded to its pressure by making concessions in various fields, the U.S. set the no-fly zone in the air above the country as it pleased, sent a U.N. weapons inspection team there to scour all the targets including presidential palaces and succeeded in invading and occupying Iraq by force of arms with ease. Its stick tactics worked there.
Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed article called for maintaining the utmost vigilance against the U.S. carrot tactics and building up forces strong enough to cope with its stick tactics.
Aggression and plunder represent the invariable nature of the U.S. imperialists, the article observed, and went on:
The U.S. imperialists have used the carrot tactics in order to appease and deceive their rival, weaken and calm down his anti-U.S. sentiment and create illusion about them.
The U.S. has employed a variety of the carrot tactics such as "peace," "aid" and "cooperation" to cover up nooses and thorn hidden in them.
The U.S. imperialists become coward before the strong but get ferocious before the weak. They dare not wield a stick before the countries strong in political and ideological capability and enormous in military muscle.
For the last several decades they have left no means untried to stifle the DPRK. The basic method employed by them is to stifle it by force of arms.
Their nukes, carrier flotillas, strategic bombers and various types of missiles are involved in this stick tactics.
The U.S. says that it has "no intention to invade north Korea." But this only betrays its ambition to dominate the whole of Korea at any cost by applying the carrot and the stick to the DPRK.
The article called upon the world progressive countries and peoples to clearly see through the U.S. imperialists' tactics for aggression and check and frustrate their crafty and vicious moves for aggression.
U.S. Intervention in Tok Islet Issue under Fire
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The United States pretends to take a "neutral stance" toward the issue of Tok Islet, which can never be an object of dispute in any case, but supports Japan inwardly. This is an act of instigating the Japanese reactionaries in their ambition for territorial expansion and a de facto violation of the Korean nation's sovereignty over territory.
Rodong Sinmun Friday says this in a signed commentary.
Recently friction between south Korea and Japan was brought to surface over the issue of the islet. However, U.S. State Secretary Rice kept mum about the issue but actively supported Japan's bid for a permanent membership of the UNSC when she visited the country. In south Korea she turned aside the "indignation" of its authorities at Japan's ambition to grab the islet, the commentary points out, and says:
Lurking behind such bad behavior of the U.S. siding with Japan over the issue is a sinister and criminal intention to carry out its military domination over Northeast Asia.
The U.S. seeks to invent a pretext for justifying its military intervention in Northeast Asia and beefing up its armed forces by fanning up Japanese reactionaries' moves for territorial expansion and instigating them in their ambition for militarism, with regard to the issue.
The appearance of the era after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration and its powerful advance have shaken the foundations of the U.S. colonial rule over south Korea to the full. So the U.S. schemes to increase pressure upon the south Korean authorities by sowing dissension between south Korea and Japan over the islet issue and hurting the former's economy.
Along with it, the U.S. attempts to divert elsewhere the attention of the surrounding countries calling for its political switchover as regards the six-party talks and while away the time.
Such U.S. vicious behavior is a dangerous crime as it checks the process of unity, stability and reunification on the Korean Peninsula, wrecks peace and security in the region and brings a new era of Cold War to Northeast Asia.
Japan should give up its ambition for revival of militarism and territorial expansion, mindful that it is a foolish illusion to calculate it can get a permanent seat of the UNSC with support of the U.S. and emerge a "political power", which can be done only by political dwarfs, and such deed will only lead to its isolation.

There are more than 1,600 branch schools in the country.
Fortified Nutrition for Plants Developed in DPRK
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- A new kind of fortified nutrition for plants has been developed by the Experimental Biological Institute of the Branch Academy of Biology under the Academy of Sciences of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The fortified nutrition made with symbiotic germ of plant roots helps plants increase absorption of nutriments.
The germ excretes such phytohormones as auxin, gibberellin and cytokinin so as to promote growth of plants and raise the photosynthetic capacity. It also increases resistance to blight by keeping disease-causing bacterium from affecting roots while living in symbiosis with the roots.
The seeds treated with the fortified nutrition make it possible to increase the output of fruit-bearing vegetables by 30 percent, soybean and potato 15 percent and maize 7 percent. And it raises prevention of blight attack up to over 80 percent.
It works better on infertile land.
Kim Yong Nam Meets Friendship Delegation of CPC
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, met and had a friendly talk with the friendship delegation of the Communist Party of China headed by Ma Wen, deputy secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall today.
On the occasion the head of the delegation said that under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il the Korean people have achieved a great success in their efforts to build a great prosperous powerful socialist country by fully displaying the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude despite natural disasters continued in several years.
He wished the Korean people greater successes in building a great prosperous powerful nation and accomplishing the cause of national reunification this year which significantly marks the 60th anniversaries of the Workers' Party of Korea and the liberation of Korea.
It is the firm policy of the Chinese party and government to carry forward the traditional Sino-Korean friendship, he said, stressing that this friendship would further develop under the deep concern of Hu Jintao and Kim Jong Il.
On hand were Pak Kyong Son, vice department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, officials concerned and Guan Huabing, charge d'affaires ad interim of China in Pyongyang.
FA of DPRK on Partial Refereeing
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The DPRK Football Association called a press conference at Yanggakdo Hotel today as regards the partial refereeing by
referees in the matches between the DPRK and Bahrain and the DPRK and Iran of Group B for the 18th World Cup Asian regional qualifier.
Present there were media persons in Pyongyang, foreign journalists who are staying here to cover the recent matches and foreign correspondents here.
The press conference was addressed by acting Secretary General of the association Ri Hi Yon. He referred in detail to the fact that Thai and Syrian referees very partially refereed the matches in violation of the FIFA regulations during the matches between the DPRK and Bahraini teams and between the DPRK and Iranian teams in Pyongyang on March 25 and 30.
He expressed the expectation that FIFA would pay due attention to the recent serious partial refereeing and promptly take relevant measures in accordance with its regulations.
Video tapes were played back at the conference to prove foul plays made by footballers during the matches.
Then, he gave answers to the questions put by reporters.
A statement was published by a spokesman for the association.
Strict Sanctions against Unfair Referees Demanded
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The Football Association of the DPRK, as a member of the FIFA, reaffirms that the DPRK players will strictly abide by
the rules in every international match and expresses belief that the FIFA will take strict sanctions against the international chief referees who were in charge of matches between the DPRK and Bahraini teams and between the DPRK and Iranian teams and take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of partial refereeing.
A spokesman for the association declared this stand in a statement issued today as regards the biased refereeing by those referees in the above-said matches for the 18th World Cup Asian regional qualifier.
The statement said that some referees are jeered by soccer fans and spectators for their unjust and biased refereeing and, furthermore, such deeds are seriously impairing the image of the prestigious international referees and the FIFA.
Such practices found their vivid expression in the matches between the DPRK and Bahraini teams and between the DPRK and Iranian teams held in Pyongyang on March 25 and 30, it pointed out, and went on:
Supervisors over the matches and the referees are also to blame for taking no measures in time for stopping the partial refereeing though they are obliged to induce the referees to fairly referee matches according to the rules of international soccer games.
The partial refereeing prompted even foreign media persons and TV broadcasters to complain in unison: "The referees should have impartially refereed the matches." "It is clearly for an 11-metre penalty kick."
If those referees are allowed to keep partially refereeing matches, they would not smoothly proceed as required by the game rules of the FIFA and rude acts contrary to sports morality would be fostered among players.
