March Issue of "The Juche Idea" Published in Japan
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- The National Liaison Council of the Japanese Society for the Study of Kim Jong Il's Works released the March issue of its
organ "The Juche Idea".
It carried photo-accompanied news that a study meeting of Japanese progressive figures and adherents to the Juche idea was held in Sapporo, Japan.
Informing the readers that speeches were made by several personages at the meeting participated in by adherents to the Juche idea from different organizations including the International Institute of the Juche Idea, the Japanese National Liaison Council of Societies for the Study of the Juche Idea, the Japanese Society for the Study of Kimilsungism and the Japan-Korea Cultural Interchange Association and figures of Japan-Korea solidarity organizations, the paper said:
Japan, availing itself of the U.S. world-wide reorganization of its military forces and rearrangement of its military strategy, has established a system as a war state. A weak action of the Japanese people for defending the pacifist constitution is one of the reasons why Japan opted for launching overseas aggression in collusion with the U.S. as evidenced by its present moves.
The popular masses should become an independent driving force to struggle for putting the state power and history education on a right track. Japan should face up to the trend of the situation where the DPRK is bolstering its nuclear deterrent force to cope with the U.S. strategy for preemptive nuclear attack and the U.S. attempts have gone amiss at the six-party talks, too. It should, at the same time, halt its anti-DPRK hostile racket including much ado about "false remains of a Japanese abductee," implement the Japan-DPRK Pyongyang Declaration and make efforts to normalize the
relations with the DPRK.
The paper reported in detail about the functions for solidarity with the DPRK held in different parts of Japan.

Anniversary of Popular Uprising on Jeju Island Observed in S.@Korea
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- A rally for inheriting the spirit of April 3 Jeju resistance and forcing the U.S. troops to quit south Korea was reportedly held in Seoul on April 3, the 57th anniversary of the popular uprising on Jeju Island.
Speakers at the rally denounced barbarous massacres committed by the U.S. on Jeju Island and called on all the people to turn out in the struggle to put an end to the U.S. military presence in south Korea.
They said the U.S. troops occupied south Korea under the signboard of "security" and "peace, but what they have done in the last six decades is nothing but the murder of innocent people and the abuse of human rights.
They also stressed the need to see through the brutal nature of the U.S. troops through the massacres committed by them on Jeju Island.
The participants heard the recital of a poem written by a spokesman for the Reunification Solidarity in memory of the uprisers brutally killed by the U.S. imperialists.
Japan's Claim to Tok Islet and Distortion of History Flailed
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- A rally was reportedly held in Seoul on April 2 to check Japan's move for reviving militarism under the co-sponsorship of the Reunification Solidarity and the National People's Solidarity of south Korea. Its participants branded Japan's claim to Tok Islet and distortion of history as a scheme to revive militarism.
Speakers at the rally termed Japan's claim to the islet and distortion of history part of its moves to revive militarism and accused the United States of zealously backing Japan. They called for displaying the spirit of the nation in the era of reunification after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration to smash Japanese imperialists' wild ambition and drive the U.S. imperialists out of this land.
A resolution, read out at the rally, denounced Japan's claim to the islet and distortion of history as a systematic and premeditated machination to veer the whole of Japanese society to the Right and an attempt to justify Japan's rearmament and realize its wild ambition for world domination.
It charged that the U.S. CIA in a report described Tok Islet as a disputed area, the U.S. secretary of State supported Japan's bid for permanent membership of the UNSC and the U.S. is closing its eyes to the revival of militarism in an effort to strengthen the alliance with Japan.
The participants tore down flags of the U.S. and Japan in front of the Japanese embassy.
Japan's Move to Grab Tok Islet Slammed
Tokyo, April 5 (KNS-KCNA) -- The Central Standing Committee of the Union of Korean Students in Japan in a statement on March 25 condemned Japan's evermore undisguised move to grab Tok Islet as a base encroachment on sovereignty.
Japan's claim to Tok Islet indicates that its right-wing reactionaries have reached a dangerous phase in their wild ambition for reinvasion of Korea and supremacy in Asia, while seeking to realize their old dream of "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere," the statement said, and continued:
Japan should not evade its responsibility for its colonial rule but stop its century-old provocative and hostile actions against the Korean nation.
We will conduct a more dynamic movement for correct understanding of history this year marking the centenary of the Japanese imperialists' fabrication of the "Ulsa Five-point Treaty" and struggle to check and frustrate Japan's distortion of history, revival of militarism and wild ambition for supremacy in the Asia-Pacific region by the concerted efforts of the nation.
Workers and Unionists Meet
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- A meeting of workers and members of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea was held at the plaza of the Monument to Party Founding on Wednesday to celebrate the 12th anniversary of the election of leader Kim Jong Il as chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission (NDC).
A report by Ryom Sun Gil, chairman of the GFTUK Central Committee, was followed by speeches at the meeting.
The reporter and speakers noted that the election of Kim Jong Il to the top post of the NDC provided a sure guarantee for successfully accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche through generations and enabled the homeland of Juche to more strikingly demonstrate its dignity and might.
The immortal exploits Kim Jong Il has performed in carrying out the revolutionary cause of Juche by wisely steering the party, the army and the people with his distinguished political caliber will always shine in the history of the country along with the era of Songun, they said.
They stressed the need for the workers and unionists to contribute to increasing the national defence capability and bring about a new revolutionary surge on major fronts for economic construction while channeling all efforts into agriculture, the main front of the socialist economic construction this year.
A congratulatory poem "He Is Our Chairman of NDC" was read out at the meeting.
Present at the meeting were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and others.
Vol.66 of Book "Among the People" Sees Light

It contains 21 reminiscences dealing with the immortal feats performed by President Kim Il Sung for the prosperity of the country, the happiness of the people and the cause of global independence and his noble popular personality.
Reminiscence "You Should Be Loyal to Comrade Kim Jong Il" tells how the President taught the officials and other people of the DPRK the precious philosophical principle that the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche is firmly guaranteed and Korea has a bright future only when they remain loyal to leader Kim Jong Il and follow him.

Pro-American Sycophantic Behavior Assailed
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities are going to build a "park for U.S. soldiers" in Seoul and erect a "memorial" to the Gis who were killed after being dispatched to Iraq from south Korea and "their tablets" there.
Minju Joson Thursday in a signed commentary brands this as a trick to beautify and justify the U.S. imperialist aggression troops' occupation of south Korea in a bid to calm down the ever growing anti-American sentiment of the south Korean people and a dastardly sycophantic submission of the pro-American elements to get out of their ever-worsening position and prolong their remaining days by pleasing their American master.
Their talk about "memorial tree planting" for "friendship" while building the "park" is an unbearable insult and mockery of the Korean nation who has been subject to all sufferings by the GIs, the commentary says, and goes on:
If they feel any need to erect a monument, they should build a monument to reunification and patriotism in order to convey down through generations the feats performed in the course of the movement for reunification and patriotism in the center of the country on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the publication of the June 15 joint declaration.
This notwithstanding, they are busying themselves with the above-said projects though the U.S. troops in south Korea are cursed and denounced by all Koreans. This can never be tolerated as it is an act of treachery which can be committed only by those who are steeped in pro-U.S. flunkeyism to the marrow of their bones.
Those who are bent on sycophantic submissive acts of going against the mindset of the people in the era of the independent reunification are bound to be sternly judged by the nation.
Intensified Anti-U.S. Actions Called for
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland issued a lengthy memorandum Wednesday on the occasions of the 57th anniversary of the massive April 3 Popular Uprising, the 45th anniversary of the heroic April 19 Popular Uprising, the 25th anniversary of the Kwangju Popular Uprising and the 18th anniversary of the June Popular Resistance. The events recorded brilliant pages in the history of the south Korean people's sacred struggle for democracy against the U.S. and fascism.
The memorandum disclosed and denounced the U.S. imperialists' brutal crackdown upon south Koreans' uprisings and resistances and their ghastly massacre of south Korean civilians.
It said:
When Jeju islanders staged a "demonstration in commemoration of the March 1 Popular Uprising" on Mar.1, 1947 U.S. soldiers fired at the demonstrators, leaving dozens of them dead. This caused the islanders to turn out in a courageous struggle with towering grudge against the U.S. imperialists. They launched the anti-U.S. resistance on the Yon Peak of Mt. Halla at 2 a.m. on April 3, 1948.
The U.S. imperialists and the Syngman Rhee puppet regime responded to their unflinching struggle with bloody crackdown. They perpetrated horrible genocide under the signboard of "earlier suppression of it."
This cruel massacre drenched the island with blood and reduced it to a "no man island."
This undoubtedly proved that the U.S. imperialists are occupation forces, murderers and beasts in human skin, not liberators and protectors of south Koreans.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the heroic April 19 popular uprising. It ushered in a new spring of resistance for independence, democracy and reunification against the U.S. and fascism.
The all-people resistance raged throughout south Korea on April 19 45 years ago. Students of Seoul National University took the lead in the resistance.
They released the "April 19 Declaration" urging people from all walks of life to rise up in the struggle against the traitorous Syngman Rhee clique.
The U.S. imperialists, much upset by this, promptly issued "special order No. 1" instructing the clique to mobilize all police force available to suppress protesters. They set up the "Martial Law Command" and hurled heavily armed troops of south Korea, even tanks and armored vehicles into Seoul to massacre civilians.
Uprisers burnt down the headquarters of the Liberal Party and the Anti-Communism Hall and occupied the U.S. Economic Cooperation Agency, the Capital Building and the National Assembly Building. They stormed the "Presidential Residence," wringing Syngman Rhee's neck. His dictatorship collapsed at last.
Under this situation the U.S. installed Ho Jong's interim government and then the Jang Myon Cabinet in a bid to save the colonial rule. It egged them on to advocate "freedom and democracy."
The awakened south Koreans, however, began directing the spearhead of their struggle to America, well aware of the truth that the cause of all their misfortune and sufferings rests with the U.S. and they can survive only through struggle for national reunification.
Feeling extremely uneasy in face of this development, the U.S. instigated the hooligans it had trained for years to stage the May 16 military coup, defiling the soul of the April 19 popular uprising. This heralded the emergence of the military fascist dictatorship.
The coup again reduced south Korea to a land without air and sap and a dark society. The U.S. imperialists worked hard to train the military fascist regime in order to serve their strategic purpose.
These facts irrefutably prove that the U.S. was chiefly accountable for directly engineering the military coup in south Korea.
The historical lesson taught by this heroic April Popular Uprising brought about the massive Kwangju Popular Uprising.
The grudge and indignation of the south Korean people at the U.S. reached their height as they had suffered due to the Yushin (revitalization) fascist politics for nearly two decades. On May 18, 1980 students of Jeonnam National University kindled the torch of Kwangju armed uprising.
As the uprising developed into all-people armed resistance, the U.S. instigated Chun Doo Hwan-led military hooligans to mercilessly suppress and massacre resistance forces and civilians.
At least 5,000 people were killed and over 14,000 others wounded in Kwangju in a few days. The city turned into a huge bath tube of blood, a city of death haunted by specter and a dumping ground of dead bodies.
This massacre stunned the world and it was again the U.S. imperialists that commanded and manipulated it.
South Koreans again waged a mass struggle against the U.S. and dictatorship in June 1987 in protest against the moves to prolong the "fifth republic" and cook up the "sixth republic," military fascist dictatorial regimes, products of the U.S. backing and crafty plot.
The June Popular Resistance brought to a collapse the "fifth republic" that had dreamed of staying in power. But there emerged in south Korea the "sixth republic's" military dictatorial regime under the civilian veil under the backstage manipulation of the U.S. keen to maintain military dictatorial regimes there.
The blood south Koreans shed in their relentless heroic uprisings and resistances was by no means in vain. It is powerfully arousing the Koreans living in the era after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration to death-defying resistance against the U.S. imperialists.
The Central Committee of the front expresses conviction that progressive governments and peoples of the world would voice stronger support and solidarity for the south Koreans in their just struggle to make this year a year to witness an end to the U.S. occupation of south Korea and a year of the independent reunification of the nation.
Military Attaches Corps Visits Oun Revolutionary Site
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- The military attaches corps here visited the Oun Revolutionary Site Wednesday on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK.
The guests looked round historical mementoes and buildings and drill grounds, being briefed on the fact that there Kim Jong Il carried out tireless ideological and theoretical activities and military actions during the military camping in Juche 51 (1962).
At the end of the tour, Military Attache of the Iranian embassy Abdullah Hamidi Benam, who is doyen of the corps, extended on behalf of the corps warm congratulations to Kim Jong Il on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of his election as NDC chairman. He expressed belief that the Korean people would reunify the country without fail under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Yang Xilian, military attache of the Chinese embassy, wrote a poem on the visitor's book, saying that Kim Jong Il deeply grasped the military thought of President Kim Il Sung there.
Giraldo Abreu Morales, military attache of the Cuban embassy, noted that Kim Jong Il set out the idea of consolidating the people's unity and cohesion in thinking and purpose based on the revolutionary idea of the leader and has turned the DPRK into a country which has achieved single-minded unity. The Cuban people fully support the self-defensive measures taken by the Korean people to counter the U.S. imperialists' moves to isolate, suffocate and threaten the DPRK, he added.
Russian Presidential Orchestra's Performance Goes on
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- The Presidential Orchestra of the Russian Federation gave its performance at the People's Palace of Culture on Wednesday, too.
It was appreciated by working people in Pyongyang.
The Russian artistes presented Korean songs including "Song Devoted to Comrade Kim Jong Il", "Mungyong Pass", "May My Motherland Prosper" and "My Beloved Country," instilling national pride and self-esteem into the audience.
They successfully presented such famous songs as "Song of Toast" from the opera "Trabiata."
Skillfully conducted by Merited Artiste Lev Kontorovich, they admirably staged a glee of the Russian song "Sound of Bell on Evening."
Their repertoire included a female solo and dance "Oh! Winter, Winter" and "Kadril." These numbers, a good combination of songs presented by a famous singer and dancers' refined skills and graceful rhythms, truthfully represented the optimistic life of the Russians and their national emotion.

U.S. Anti-Terrorism War Flayed
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- The "anti-terrorism war" launched by the United States is nothing but a vicious doctrine for aggression as it is aimed at spreading American-style "democracy" worldwide by force to build a U.S.-led order for world domination and it is also a product of its unilateralism and high-handed military policy.
Rodong Sinmun Thursday observes this in a signed article. It goes on:
The U.S. seeks to hide its "anti-terrorism war" with the veils of "freedom" and "democracy." This is aimed at covering up its reactionary and aggressive nature and escalating it in a bid to build the above-said order.
It regarded the "September 11 incident" as the golden opportunity of spreading the American-style "democracy" worldwide by force of arms, taking advantage of the changed international environment and the altered balance of forces in the new century.
The U.S. launched the Afghan war under the pretext of mopping up the headquarters of al-Qaeda, raising the curtain of the "anti-terrorism war."
Through the Afghan and Iraqi wars the United States put under control the regions it had long eyed, thus escalating its political and military infiltration and sphere of influence in the Central Asian countries and the Middle East. The U.S. "anti-terrorism war" and its moves to build an American-style order for world domination did not bring peace and stability to the world but escalated the war of aggression, destruction and socio-economic chaos. In consequence, the sovereignty and rights of countries and nations were seriously threatened and violated.
The U.S. operation to escalate the "anti-terrorism war" was targeted against the DPRK, among other things. The U.S. war-like forces became more undisguised in their anti-DPRK operation aimed at "bringing down its system" under pretexts of its "nuclear and missile issues," "human rights issue" and "the issue of terrorism."
The military aggression and intervention perpetrated by the U.S. against other countries under the pretext of "anti-terrorism war" are nothing but the most blatant and shameless infringement upon their sovereignty, acts of disturbing peace and human rights abuses. This war is, in a nutshell, hideous international terrorism perpetrated under the signboard of "anti-terrorism" and anti-peace and anti-democracy operations veiled with "peace," "freedom" and "democracy." The U.S. moves to escalate the war will
only lead to its international isolation and self-destruction, the article warns.
World Health Day Observed
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson Thursday dedicates a signed article to the World Health Day.
The international conference on public health on April 7, 1948 officially declared the foundation of the WHO and made a decision to commemorate the day as the world health day, the article says, and goes on:
With due consideration into the influence of the health of mothers and children on social progress and the status quo, the WHO raised cooperation with all nations for the development of medical service, cooperation for the development of medical science, hygienics in particular, the work of training health care cadres and improving their qualification and aid to developing countries as the contents of its basic activities and has strengthened cooperation with governments and medical organizations of all countries and made achievements in this process.
In Korea good medicare environments have been provided to all women and children thanks to the correct health care policies of the Workers' Party of Korea and the state and the good trait of respecting and rendering preferential treatment to them are prevailing in the society.
Under the man-centred socialist system Korean women are loved and respected as "flowers" of families and society and they are creditably carrying out their duties as full-fledged members of the society. Their children, too, are growing to be dependable pillars of the country, called as "king" of the country at "babies' palace" when they are born and at "children's palaces" when they grow.
The positive efforts of the WHO and different countries to promote the health of women, mothers and children and human welfare will bear a good fruit.

New Novels Off Press in DPRK
Pyongyang, April 7 (KCNA) -- The Literature and Arts Publishing House of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has published full-length novels "Sunlight over the Cloud", "Undying Flame" and "Rainbow", which are based on the struggle of unconverted long-term prisoners Kim U Thaek, Jo Chang Son and Son Song Mo respectively.
They had been kept in prison in south Korea for 40, 30 and 19 years for they fought for the reunification of the country. They, however, remained true to the oath they made for the country and the nation, in the teeth of ghastly torture and appeasement by fascists.
The novels show that with absolute trust in their leader and Party and a strong sense of obligation for them and with revolutionary faith, the heroes could become indomitable men strong in ideology and will.
