U.S. Moves to Increase Its Forces' Role under Fire
Pyongyang, April 12 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification of south Korea reportedly called a press conference in front of the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Seoul on April 6 at which it denounced the U.S. for scheming to let its forces in south Korea play an Asia-Pacific regional role under the pretext of "strategic flexibility" instead of performing their role just in Korea.
The organization disclosed the fact that recently the U.S. and the south Korean authorities held a meeting on the issue of "strategic flexibility" in camera.
If the U.S. forces in south Korea are allowed to play that regional role, it will spark an arms race in Northeast Asia, increase south Korea's political and military dependence upon the U.S. and add to the obstacles to peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula resulting from their permanent presence.
The "strategic flexibility" touted by the U.S. is nothing but subterfuge to use the bases of its forces in south Korea as a springboard for world aggression, the organization said.
At the end of the press conference a letter of protest was handed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Event Held in S. Korea to Check Japan's Attempt to Revive Militarism
Pyongyang, April 12 (KCNA) -- A function was reportedly held in Seoul on April 6 to check Japan's attempt to revive militarism. It was sponsored by the headquarters of youth and students of the South Side's Preparatory Committee for Joint Functions of Compatriots in the South, North and Overseas for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration.
A joint resolution of compatriots in the south, the north and overseas read out at the function noted that Japan's undisguised moves to veer to the Right and revive militarism are hurting the dignity of the Korean nation and obstructing Korea's reunification.
Speakers at the function said that the Korean people can never forget the colonial slavery imposed upon Korea during the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule and they will surely force Japan to apologize and compensate for the crime.
Referring to the conspiracy between the U.S. and Japan getting pronounced over the issue of Tok Islet, they denounced the U.S. for its egging Japan on to realize its ambition to revive militarism.
They urged the south Korean government to reject cooperation with the U.S. and take positive measures to liquidate the remnants of the Japanese imperialists.
After the function was over, the participants staged a candlelight demonstration as far as the Japanese embassy in Seoul.
Japan urged to Cancel Results of Screening of History Textbooks
Tokyo, April 10 (KNS-KCNA) -- The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology should cancel at once the results of
screening of history textbooks and move to bar all the distorted textbooks from being used.
Jo Han Ju, director of the Educational Department of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), demanded this in a statement on April 6 in protest against Japan's retrogressive revision of those textbooks.
He continued:
The racket kicked up by the Japanese right-wing reactionaries in a bid to hide Japan's past crimes and deny the truth of history is an unbearable insult to the peoples of various Asian countries including the Korean people who suffered a lot due to the Japanese imperialists in the past.
Moreover, the Japanese reactionaries, as if it were not enough with their distortion of history, dealt even with the so-called "issue of abduction" in the textbooks, the issue that had already found a solution. This is little short of deliberately fanning up antipathy and prejudice toward the DPRK which has made every sincere effort to resolve the issue.

Japan's Reckless Moves to Grab Tok Islet Accused
Pyongyang, April 12 (KCNA) -- The Japanese reactionaries are becoming more undisguised than ever before in their acts to infringe upon the sovereignty and dignity of the Korean people. This is evidenced by the fact that Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan Hosoda asserted at the joint meeting of officials of the Liberal Democratic Party concerned with the Cabinet held on March 24 that the issue of Tok Islet should be brought to the International Court of Justice. This comes under fire by a signed commentary of Minju Joson Tuesday. It says:
The Korean people will never allow the Japanese reactionaries to infringe upon the sovereignty and interests of the Korean nation and bring again war disasters to Asia.
Tok Islet, though small, is a symbol of the sovereignty of the Korean nation and its precious treasure which can not be bartered for anything.
The Korean ancestors discovered the islet earlier than the Japanese and listed it as a treasure of the country. It has long been used by Koreans to make a living.
Japan's claim to the islet betrays the true colors of the robbers who are keen to loot others' things.
The modern history of Japan is recorded with its invasion and plunder of other countries.
The present political situation in Japan reminds one of the idea and fervor for overseas invasion veiled with what it called "nationalism" and "patriotism" which had prevailed there before its launch of continental aggression in the past.
Frustrating Japan's moves to grab the islet is an issue of protecting the dignity and sovereignty of the Korean nation and, at the same time, a just struggle for checking the Japanese militarists' ambition for overseas expansion and preserving peace and security in Asia and the rest of the world.
KCNA Flails Japanfs Distortion of Blood-Stained History
Pyongyang, April 12 (KCNA) - It was reported that the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on April 5 approved the
history textbook compiled by the Society for History Textbook Reform, a right-wing organization, and printed by the Fusosha while announcing the results of screening history textbooks for middle schoolers for 2006.
In the textbooks the Japanese reactionaries beautified and justified their history of aggression by all means and tried to openly praise feats..
Japan abducted and forcibly drafted more than 8.4 million Koreans to drive them to shambles of war of aggression and slave labour before killing many of them in cold blood after occupying Korea by force of arms in the last century. Worse still, it forced at least 200,000 Korean women into sexual slavery for the imperial Japanese army. However, there is no reference to these crimes in those new history textbooks.
On the contrary, their publishers wrote that Japanfs colonization of Korea
helped it in its modernization and described Tok Islet, part of the inviolable territory of Korea, as part of the Japanese territory, openly revealing its 100 year-old ambition to grab the islet.
Japan falsified truth by describing such wars of aggression as War for Greater East Asia and Pacific War that brought unspeakable misfortune and pain to the Asian people as a war for self-defence" and "a liberation war.
Japan distorted its history in textbooks despite the torrents of protest and denunciation of the Korean people and other Asians. This is an intolerable insult to the Korean nation demanding Japan liquidate its past and an open challenge to international justice and conscience.
Japan's recent move to tamper with its history textbooks has reached an extremely grave phase as it undisguisedly laid bare its militarist ambition for reinvasion of Korea and other Asian countries, to say nothing of its design to cover up its past crimes and evade the redemption of its past crimes.
Lurking behind such move is the persistent and sinister intention of the Japanese reactionaries to arm their descendants with the reactionary idea of aggression through the education in the distorted history and woo them to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors and go out for reinvasion.
Through this Japan seeks to realize the old dream of Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere at any cost and emerge the leader of Asia.
It is 100 years since Japanfs illegal occupation of Korea and 60 years after its defeat.
The Japanese reactionaries, however, have totally denied and grossly distorted Japan's blood-stained history of aggression even this time which reminds people of the crimes committed by it in the past. The reality once again clearly indicates that they are fanatic militarists whose physiology is aggression and war.
History can never be changed by any distortion nor be erased by any attempt to cover it up.
With no desperate effort can the Japanese reactionaries ever erase Japan's blood-stained history of crimes committed against the Korean and other Asian peoples or shirk the responsibility for them.
Should Japan embark upon road of militarist reinvasion instead of drawing a lesson from the defeat and disgrace it suffered 60 years back due to its aggression and plunder, it will meet stronger protest and condemnation from the Asian countries and the rest of the world.
The Korean people will never tolerate the Japanese reactionariesf distortion of history but certainly force them to pay for all its past crimes.

the appearance of Kimilsungia, the flower representing the sun.

Also on hand were former President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri who is chairwoman of the Central Directive Council of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle and her party, Ratna Sari Dewy Soekarno who is widow of ex-President of Indonesia Soekarno and her party and other foreign guests and overseas Koreans who are staying here to attend the commemorations of the anniversary and the 7th Kimilsungia Festival, and staff members of the Indonesian embassy here.
Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, made a report at the meeting.
Kimilsungia that appeared 40 years ago, carrying the august name of the great man symbolizes the highest glory and appreciation extended by progressive humankind to President Kim Il Sung, the reporter noted, referring to the background against which this immortal flower came into being and how it has been propagated. The reporter went on:
Reflected in the flower are the sincere feelings of the Indonesian people including Soekarno, the first president of Indonesia, and progressive people of the world who revered and praised Kim Il Sung.
President Soekarno invited Kim Il Sung to visit his country when the commemorations of the tenth anniversary of the first meeting of Asian and African countries were scheduled to be held in Bandung of Indonesia in April Juche 54 (1965).
When Kim Il Sung visited the world-famous Bogor Botanical Garden, the reverence of the Indonesian people for him was expressed to the full.
Soekarno guided Kim Il Sung to a potted flower, beautiful and rare, and explained the reason why an Indonesian famous botanist had bred and cultivated the new flower heart and soul and expressed his wish to name it after the President of the DPRK.
Kim Il Sung, very humble as he was, declined this offer, saying there was no need to give his name even to the flower as he had achieved nothing particular. Hearing this, Soekarno repeatedly asked Kim Il Sung to accept this offer, noting he deserved such high honor as he had done a lot for the good of humankind.
This happened on April 13, Juche 54 (1965), a significant event recorded in history. It was thanks to Soekarno's son who remained true to his father's lifetime intention that the botanical name of Kimilsungia was formally registered at the International Orchis Family Society to be known as a world famous flower.
It is ascribable to the benevolent leadership of Kim Jong Il that Kimilsungia has been in full bloom all over the world generation after generation.
Two potted Kimilsungias that struck their roots in the land of Korea have been massively propagated in a brief span of time under the care of Kim Jong Il. This flower has been widely distributed in different countries of the world thanks to the sincere efforts of many foreign friends.
Kim Jong Il saw to it that the First Kimilsungia Festival was held in April Juche 88 (1999) and the Kimilsungia Festival was made an annual event. He specified the form and methods of organizing the festival.
The reporter said that the Korean people would keep Kimilsungia and Kimjongilia in fuller bloom with all wisdom and intense loyalty and beautifully decorate the immortal flower festivals in order to powerfully demonstrate the strong spirit and might of Juche Korea advancing full of confidence of sure victory and optimism.
