Kim Jong Il Inspects Company of KPA Unit

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, inspected a company of KPA Unit 228. He was accompanied by KPA Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong.
    He was saluted on the spot by the commanding officers of the unit and its company. He learned about the company's performance of duty before watching its servicepersons in training.
    He expressed satisfaction over the fact that the commanding officers and soldiers of the company are fully capable of undertaking any combat duty as a match-for-a hundred fighters.
    He stressed the need to persistently keep up the work to thoroughly implement the WPK's policy of training.
    Going round an educational room, a bedroom, a mess hall, a kitchen, a non-staple food store, a wash-cum-bath house, barns, a power station and other places of the company, he took warm care of the service and living of the soldiers.
    He highly appreciated the achievements made by the company soldiers. He was greatly satisfied with the excellent living conditions provided by the company, seeing the barns swarming with domestic animals, fields under various kinds of vegetables and the barracks where electricity is in wide use.
    The KPA soldiers are, indeed, pace-setters in self-reliance as they create everything from nothing, he said, adding that the appearance of the whole army is changing day by day and it has become a powerful engine for building a rich and powerful country, dynamically advancing the era and the revolution, as this staunch revolutionary spirit of the army is being given fuller play.
    He called for concentrating sustained efforts on firmly building up the company, noting that it is very important to bolster the company, a main combat unit of the KPA. He gave a pair of binoculars and an automatic rifle to the servicepersons of the company as gifts and had a photo session with them.

Koreans in U.S. Meet for Aug. 15 National Festival

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The second meeting of co-chairmen of the U.S. regional preparatory committee for the joint functions of Koreans in the north, the south and overseas to implement the June 15 joint declaration was held in Los Angeles on July 23. Discussed there was the issue of successfully ensuring the August 15 grand national festival. The meeting appreciated and reviewed the June 15 grand festival for national reunification held in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the historic June 15 joint declaration.
    The participants in the meeting stressed the need to further expand and strengthen the committee and lead the Koreans in the U.S. to devote their all to implementing the joint declaration.

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The publication of the DPRK-Russia Moscow Declaration signed by leader Kim Jong Il and President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin four years ago was an epochal event of weighty significance in steadily developing the DPRK-Russia friendship on a new high stage in the new century, say newspapers Thursday. Recalling that Kim Jong Il stayed in Russia from July 26, 2001 and paid an official visit to it between Aug. 4 and 5 at the invitation of Putin, Rodong Sinmun says: Meetings and talks between Kim Jong Il and Putin marked a historic occasion in boosting the bilateral ties of friendship.
    The DPRK-Russia Moscow Declaration adopted and published during Kim Jong Il's historic visit to Russia was a historic declaration that formally confirmed before the international community the will and stand of the two countries to develop the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation in all fields in keeping with the common desire and interests of the two peoples and the requirements of the new century, ensure peace and security in Asia and other parts of the world and actively promote the common cause of humankind to build a just, new world.
    The bilateral relations of friendship have dynamically developed on a new high stage for the past four years after the publication of the declaration.
    Today the Russian people are striving to achieve social stability and national unity and defend the security and interests of the country under the leadership of Putin.

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Thursday dedicates an article to the 8th anniversary of the publication of the famous work of leader Kim Jong Il "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification." Kim Jong Il in his work systematically and comprehensively dealt with the undying feats performed by President Kim Il Sung for the cause of the country's reunification and independence and clearly indicated ways of carrying out the President's last instructions for national reunification. It is of great theoretical and practical significance that in his work he formulated the three charters for national reunification and clarified important and principled matters arising in accomplishing the cause of reunification and improving the north-south relations.

Gift to Kim Jong Il from Vietnamese Delegation

Kim Il Chol Meets Vietnamese Delegation

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Vice Marshal of the Korean Peoplefs Army Kim Il Chol, minister of the Peoplefs Armed Forces, today met and had a friendly talk with a delegation of officials in charge of foreign relations of the Vietnamese Defence Ministry led by Major Gen. Pham Thanh Lan, director of the Foreign Relations Department of the Ministry, on a visit to the DPRK.      Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il was presented with a basket of flowers by a delegation of the Shimonoseki, Japan, Society for the Study of the Juche Idea. The floral basket was handed to an official concerned today by Yasuharu Nakamuro, head of the delegation.

Yang Hyong Sop Meets Swedish Ambassador

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met and conversed with Paul Beijer, Swedish ambassador to the DPRK who paid a farewell call on him, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Thursday.

Chongsong Bullojong

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- Chongsong Bullojong is a medicine manufactured by the Korea Pugang Pharmaceutic Company of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Won Hak Rim, 60, who lives in Pyongyang, had chronic gastritis cured after taking the medicine.
    He said: I had long suffered from gastritis. Several days after I started taking the medicine, I felt hungry and had a cycle of diarrhea and constipation stopped. That wonder was that I regained strength in my feeble legs. People tell me that I have become younger. Now I dare say that Chongsong Bullojong is efficacious for digestive diseases and those of the aged.

Heavy Rainfall in DPRK

     Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- A torrential rain fell in Pyongyang, South Phyongan, South and North Hwanghae Provinces. According to observations from 6 p.m. on August 3 to 6 a.m. on the 4th, Maengsan witnessed 142 mm of rainfall, Phyongsong 139 mm, Sariwon 138 mm, Pyongyang 134 mm, Songchon 96 mm, Pukchang 95 mm, Jangyon 92 mm and Hwangju 91 mm. In particular, for an hour from 3 a.m. on Thursday, there was as much rainfall as 66 mm in Pyongyang and 40 mm in Kangnam.
    The heavy rain mainly hit cities situated along the River Taedong such as Pyongyang, Phyongsong and Sariwon.
    The nimbus is slowly moving northward.
