Polish and Ugandan Figures Support Songun Politics

Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- We will as ever positively support the Workers' Party of Korea and the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in their efforts to achieve the successful progress of the socialist cause and the peaceful reunification of the country and lasting peace in the Korean Peninsula through the pursuance of the original Songun politics. Martin Adam, chairman of the National Executive Committee of the Polish Communist Party, said this in a statement issued on Aug. 13 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Korea's liberation.
Recalling that the U.S. imperialists are working hard to provoke a new war in a bid to impose American-style "democracy" upon other countries again with the threat of bombs, he noted that the prevailing tense situation requires more positive activities for solidarity with the Korean people in their struggle to frustrate the U.S. moves against the DPRK.
Latigo Oral, deputy director for Foreign Relations of the Secretariat of the National Movement of Uganda, in a statement on Aug. 13 referred to the fact that the Korean people have faithfully upheld the Songun politics of leader Kim Jong Il, expressing the belief that they would certainly frustrate the U.S. moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK. Niombi Tembo, chairman of the Kampala City Committee of the National Movement of Uganda, in a statement on Aug. 12 highly praised the successes made by the Korean people in the revolution and construction under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. The chairman fully supported Songun politics of Kim Jong Il.

Present on invitation were staff members of the DPRK embassy in Lima. The chairman of the institute, in a speech at the meeting, said that the Institute for Friendship with the DPRK was inaugurated for the first time in America in August 1970 by many Peruvian adherents to the Juche idea who were charmed by the greatness of President Kim Il Sung.

Japan Urged to Apologize and Compensate for War Crimes

Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- Some days ago, the Japanese foreign ministry claimed that the issue of reparation has already been settled, asserting that Japan has settled the issue of its postwar reparation with the countries concerned by a package deal, it is no longer responsible for meeting individual claims and it is inappropriate to simply compare Japan's postwar reparation with that of Germany. It even went the lengths of claiming that the issue of compensation for the sexual slavery for the imperial Japanese army had already been settled from a legal point of view.
In this regard Rodong Sinmun Monday says in a signed commentary: What the Japanese foreign ministry asserted is a serious matter that should never be overlooked as it clarifies the official stand of the Japanese government. Such blatant approach taken by the Japanese foreign ministry in utter disregard of the sensitive problems raised by the Asian countries including the issue of history betrays moral vulgarity and shameless nature peculiar to Japan. It is a mockery of the peoples of the countries which suffered so much at its hands.
It is nothing but a poor excuse of Japan to insist that it is inappropriate to compare it with Germany, the same war criminal and defeated country, over the issue of postwar settlement and it had already settled its crime-woven past as an issue between states. It is not a simple humanitarian issue but a sensitive international political pending issue and a historical task, the fulfillment of which brooks no further delay for Japan, to apologize and compensate for the human, moral and material damage it inflicted upon the peoples of Korea and other Asian countries.
If Japan persistently tries to go without settling its past, it will never escape international isolation and destruction.

International Meeting for Solidarity Held in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- An "international meeting for Aug. 15 grand national festival" reportedly took place in the building of the Society for Commemorating the Democratic Movement on Aug. 17 under the sponsorship of the Reunification Solidarity of south Korea. Present there were figures of various organizations including Han Sang Ryol, permanent representative chairman of the solidarity, and O Jong Ryol, permanent chairman of the National Alliance for Democracy and National Reunification, and foreigners.
Speakers said that they were deeply impressed by the Aug. 15 grand national festival held this time, underscoring the significance of the festival.
Describing the last six decades as a period of sufferings the south Koreans have undergone due to the military and economic subjugation the U.S. forces have imposed upon them since their occupation of south Korea, they called upon all of them to strive hard for reunification.

Struggle for End to U.S. Military Occupation Urged in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils reportedly had an emergency meeting of its Central Committee on August 15 to ensure a successful September 8 struggle. And it released an appeal titled "Let's launch a general offensive under the banner of 'By our nation itself' to put an end to the 60 year-long U.S. military occupation." The appeal stressed the need to make September 8, the day when the U.S. troops began their occupation of south Korea, an occasion of a leap in activating and generalizing the anti-American, anti-war struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces. It called upon all universities across south Korea to hold a ceremony of declaring the campaign for boycotting classes on September 8 and vigorously wage regional struggles on September 10 and a struggle for the removal of the statue of MacArthur in Inchon on September 11.
It also called for making this year, 60 years since the U.S. military occupation of south Korea, the year of the U.S. troop pullout without fail. The youth and students should valiantly conduct the September 8 struggle with the unshakable determination, will and faith, it said.

Rodong Sinmun on Kim Jong Il's Songun Leadership Exploits

Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) --The 60-year long history of the Workers' Party of Korea and the country is shining and the Korean nation has an immensely rosy future thanks to the Songun revolutionary leadership exploits of Kim Jong Il. It is necessary to eternally glorify these exploits as an eternal foundation of the WPK and the Korean revolution and the most precious national treasure. Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in an editorial. The editorial goes on:
Kim Jong Il is the great leader who has made the long history of his revolutionary leadership an epic of steady victory by pursuing original Songun politics. The last one decade occupies a most brilliant page in the glorious 40-odd year-long revolutionary history of his Songun leadership. Never has there been such a period in which astonishing victories and changes have taken place in all fields of the revolution and construction as the last one decade during which his Songun politics has been in force in all domains. Under the banner of Songun the DPRK has consolidated the single-minded unity of the revolutionary ranks in every way and firmly built up its military deterrent while providing a solid material foundation for building a great prosperous powerful nation. Modern production bases have been built in different parts of the country to meet requirements of the new century. The land of the country has been realigned as befitting the land of socialist Korea, a signal turn has taken place in the seed improvement and potato farming and many monumental edifices of eternal value have appeared. He has firmly protected the destiny of the country, the nation and socialism despite the most difficult situation and the grimmest trial and brought about epoch-making changes unprecedented in the history of the nation spanning thousands of years, thereby providing a solid foundation for eternal prosperity of Kim Il Sung's Korea and happiness for all generations to come. The Korean people will never forget these immortal exploits no matter how much water may flow under the bridge.
Included in his Songun revolutionary leadership exploits are all the ideological, theoretical, strategic and tactical guidelines that should be held fast to in the revolution and construction and the tradition of heroic struggle and a wealth of experience in which he has brought about epoch-making miracles and changes by turning adversity into a favorable situation, misfortune into a blessing.
The above-said exploits serve as an eternal lifeline of the country and revolution and treasure that the Korean nation should hand over to posterity and make them shine for all ages. The editorial calls for steadily developing in depth the work to glorify his feats in all fields in order to bring about a new surge in the drive to build a great prosperous powerful nation and accomplish the cause of Juche.

Closer National Cooperation Called for

Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- The recent August 15 functions for reunification marked an important occasion in reaffirming the inevitability and vitality of cooperation for reunification and patriotism in implementing the June 15 joint declaration and uniting all Koreans as one under the banner of reunification and patriotism. Rodong Sinmun Monday observes this in a signed article. It goes on: The cause of national reunification is one of all Koreans which can be achieved only when they join efforts and unite close as it is a work for the common interests of the nation.
The cooperation for reunification and patriotism is one of the basic ways of implementing the joint declaration, a milestone of independent reunification. Realizing the above-said form of cooperation in implementing the joint declaration means all Koreans in the north and the south and overseas, the driving force for national reunification, pool their efforts and wisdom and achieve unity and solidarity for the common interests of the nation.
This cooperation serves as an engine for strengthening the driving force for national reunification and remarkably increasing its role.
The reunification of the country is a cause of national independence and it can be achieved only by the driving force of the Korean nation. This is an issue related to the destiny of the Koreans as it is an issue of rejoining their ties severed by foreign forces and establishing national sovereignty throughout Korea. The issue related to the destiny of the nation should be left to the Koreans in the north, the south and overseas to settle it by themselves.
The above-mentioned form of cooperation also serves as an effective means for tapping and using the potentials of the nation to the utmost.
National reunification is aimed at establishing national sovereignty throughout Korea and achieving the common progress and prosperity of the nation so that all Koreans can live in happiness in a reunified land. It is, therefore, quite natural and possible for all Koreans in the north, the south and overseas to solidarize, unite and cooperate with each other under the banner of reunification and patriotism.
In order to achieve national reconciliation and unity, it is important to develop visits, contacts and wide-ranging dialogue among Koreans in the north and the south and overseas. The cooperation for reunification and patriotism can be achieved through visits, contacts and dialogue among Koreans.
It is an unavoidable due obligation for any member of the divided Korean nation to find true worth of living on the road of reunification and patriotism.

Immortal Feats for Unified Development of National Language

Pyongyang, August 22 (KCNA) -- The compilation of gLarge Korean Dictionaryh, the first unified dictionary of the national language, is progressing apace in Korea. Philologists of the Academy of Social Sciences are doing their best for the work with an ardent patriotism, bearing deep in mind the great efforts made by President Kim Il Sung to prevent the division of the national language and achieve its unified development.
Right after the liberation of the country, some fame-seekers "invented" a six-letter alphabet and distributed prospectus of alphabetic reform. And they organized a committee for the reform and even made up the new Korean spelling system. In his historic work gOn the Reform of Lettersh in December Juche 36(1947), the President, with a profound analysis of the obtaining situation, noted that the letter reform was a very important issue related to the future of the nation and that the Korean nation was a homogeneous one, which had lived in the same territory with the same language and letters from olden times. And he said that if the letters were reformed in the north only with the country divided into two owing to the occupation of south Korea by the U.S. imperialists after the liberation, the people in the north and the south could not read each other's publications and letters and the nation would remain divided in the long run.
During a conversation with Ri Kuk Ro, head of the Korean Linguistic Association, in the spring of 1949, he stated that the letter reform was a job to be done only after national reunification.
In his famous work gOn Compiling Korean Grammar Textbook Wellh in May 1950, he criticized the serious faults of the Korean grammar textbook (written in 1949) and indicated the direction and way for rewriting the textbook, saying that the part on the unscientific and anti-national six-letter alphabet should be deleted. In July 1954 he said that the "proposal for simplifying Korean alphabet" using 10 consonants at the end of syllables made in south Korea under the manipulation of the U.S. imperialists lacked science and logic and that the Korean spelling system should be based on the morphological principle without fail.
When meeting a reverend from south Korea at the end of 1980s, the President made very important remarks concerning the compilation of a dictionary for the unified development of the national language.
His remarks served as a definite guarantee for linguistic uniformity in the north and the south.
The compilation of gLarge Korean Dictionaryh is being carried on as an important work to implement the behest of President Kim Il Sung and to realize the noble idea of leader Kim Jong Il on achieving great national unity.
