WPK Birthday to Be Marked in Democratic Congo

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- A national preparatory committee of Democratic Congo was inaugurated with due ceremony in Kinshasa on Sept. 1 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea. On display in the venue of the ceremony were photos showing the glorious history of the WPK and its undying exploits.
    Speakers at the ceremony referred to the fact that President Kim Il Sung performed immortal feats by building and leading the Party and leader Kim Jong Il has turned the WPK into an eternal party of Kim Il Sung and led the struggle to defend socialism and build a great prosperous powerful nation to victory with his Songun politics. The people of Democratic Congo extend firm solidarity to the Korean people in the efforts to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the WPK with shining labour achievements, they noted.
    The ceremony elected Vital Camere, secretary general of the National Executive Committee of the People's Party for the Reconstruction and the Democracy of Democratic Congo, chairman of the preparatory committee and Otete Gaston Mboyo, chairman of the National Committee of the Genuine Lumumbist Patriotic Party of Democratic Congo, and Kamwiziku Octave, chairman of the National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea of Democratic Congo, vice-chairmen of the preparatory committee.
    The preparatory committee set the days from Sept. 1 to Oct. 20 as a celebration period and decided to conduct colorful events and a solidarity movement in this period.

Appeal to All Koreans and World Peace-loving People

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The north, south and overseas headquarters of the Nationwide Special Committee for Probing the Truth behind the GIs' Massacres Wednesday released a joint appeal to the 70 million Koreans and the peace-loving people of the world, 60 years since the U.S. military occupation of south Korea. The appeal says:
    On Sept. 8, 60 years ago the disgraceful history of the occupation of a half of Korea by the U.S. forces began and it brought the tragedy of territorial division and national split to the Koreans. The past six decades of the U.S. forces' occupation of south Korea were a bitter history woven with the forces' crimes against humanity and killings of Koreans as they imposed the whole gamut of misfortune and pain upon them. The U.S. forces are still lording it over south Korea, hell-bent on aggression, interference and division. We can never overlook the abnormal situation in south Korea where the U.S. forces are perpetrating high-handed and arbitrary practices while enjoying privilege as an empire for more than half a century.
    The appeal called on the Koreans not to allow the U.S. forces' cursed presence in south Korea to go beyond 60 years but put an end to the foreign domination of south Korea that has lasted for a century and achieve national sovereignty. The history and the present reality urge all the Koreans to resolutely put an end to the U.S. occupation, high-handed practices, domination and interference and turn out in anti-U.S. resistance to uproot the root cause of all sorts of misfortune, sufferings, aggression and war, it says, and goes on:
    Ours is the era in which the Koreans work together in the spirit of "By our nation itself", the era after the publication of the June 15 joint declaration. Let us put an end to south Korea-U.S. alliance and defend peace on this land through national cooperation.
    South Korea-U.S. cooperation will lead to war while national cooperation will lead to peace and reunification.
    Now is the time for all the Koreans to turn out to preserve the time-honored history of the nation and carry forward the proud patriotic spirit so as to protect the sovereignty and the dignity of the nation.
    Let all Koreans turn out in resistance for independence against the U.S. to terminate its military presence in south Korea and bring the second August 15 to this land, united closer in one mind in the idea of "By our nation itself", just as our predecessors waged a bloody struggle under the uplifted banner of the national liberation, putting an end to the brigandish Japanese imperialists' colonial rule!
    It is impossible to preserve peace not only in the Korean Peninsula but in the rest of Asia and the world as long as there remain in south Korea the U.S. troops, the root cause of evil and the disturber of justice and peace, the appeal notes, and goes on: The U.S. troops' continued presence in south Korea is the leftover of the Cold War era the eradication of which brooks no moment's delay.
    This year marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the resolution demanding the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea at the 30th UN General Assembly, a document reflecting the desire and aspiration of the world peace-loving people. The U.S. forces should stop the move for "their relocation" aimed at perpetuating their presence in south Korea and their strategy to dominate Asia and the rest of the world and go back to their den without delay, taking all lethal equipment with them as demanded by the UN resolution.
    Whoever truly loves justice and peace should bitterly condemn the U.S. forces' presence in south Korea and their crimes and more strongly demand their withdrawal from there in order to relieve the Koreans of all disasters and misfortune and ensure peace and security on the Korean Peninsula.
    No statute of limitations is applicable to the crimes committed by GIs in Korea as they are crimes against humankind.
    Let us launch a campaign to bring to justice all the crimes perpetrated by the U.S. on the peninsula and an international mass movement for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea!
    We earnestly call upon the world progressive organizations and peace-loving people who value justice, truth, peace and security to strongly denounce all the crimes perpetrated by the U.S. against the Korean nation for more than half a century and voice full support and firm solidarity with the Korean people in their just struggle to put an end to the U.S. military presence in south Korea.

Birthday of DPRK Observed by Workers and Unionists

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- An oratorical meeting of workers and members of the General Federation of Trade Unions of Korea under the title of "Our Motherland Shining with Songun" was held here Tuesday to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the DPRK. At the meeting the performers in their oratories titled "The Name of My Country", "Great Footprints" and "Flower of the Sun" referred to the fact that thanks to the tireless efforts and wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung, there began on this land a new history in which the people became masters of the state and the society for the first time in the history of the nation spanning 5,000 years. They in the oratories titled "Wishes of the General" and "The Same Appearance" said that as the Korean people hold in high esteem leader Kim Jong Il, supreme incarnation of noble morality and obligation, Kim Il Sung is always with the army and people as the eternal president of the DPRK.
    They declared that the workers and unionists would surely build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation by the force of the single-minded unity of the army and people around Kim Jong Il.

Foreign Diplomats Visit Combined Food-Processing Factory

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Diplomatic envoys of different countries and representatives of international organizations here visited the combined food-processing factory managed by Ri Jong Nam Tuesday on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the DPRK. They were briefed on the fact that the employees of the factory and builders have successfully built up the combined food-processing centre to win the admiration of the generations to come as required by the new century under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il. Then they went round various production processes. Syrian Charge d'Affaires A.I. Muhammad Adib Alhani wrote in the visitor's book that the visit to the factory provided an important occasion to see the successes achieved by the Korean people. He sincerely hoped that the factory making progress under the care of Kim Jong Il would register great achievements and the friendly and cooperative relations between Syria and the DPRK grow stronger.

Struggle for Withdrawal of U.S. Troops from S. Korea Called for

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The struggle for the withdrawal of the U.S. imperialist aggression troops from south Korea is most urgently required by the history of the Korean nation, says Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in a signed article. It goes on:
    The struggle for achieving the national reunification, the greatest desire and supreme task of the Korean nation, precisely means the struggle to drive the U.S. imperialist aggression troops out of south Korea.
    The U.S. imperialist aggression troops present in south Korea are the root cause of the national division and a biggest stumbling block lying in the way of national reunification.
    The U.S. imperialist aggression troops in south Korea are ill-famed for being on-the-spot executor of the U.S. policy toward Korea. It was none other than the U.S. imperialist aggression troops that have blocked the south Korean people's anti-U.S. struggle for independence and arrested their actions for national reunification at the point of bayonet. Whenever an atmosphere of reconciliation and unity between the north and the south grew strong, they staged various forms of war exercises, rendering the situation extremely tense and chilling it.

Japan's Mockery of Human Conscience Flayed

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The Japanese chief executive at an official session on August 26 claimed that the Japanese government had "no legal responsibility" for the "comfort women" drafted for the imperial Japanese army. Synchronizing with this, the Ehime Prefectural Education Committee of Japan decided to introduce the new history textbook distorting and beautifying Japan's history of aggression into schools including the prefectural middle schools. Earlier, the Japanese Foreign Ministry announced that the distorted history textbook for middle schools would be translated into Chinese and Korean and made public in homepage from August 24.
    A Rodong Sinmun analyst Wednesday lambastes such act as an intolerable insult and challenge to the Korean people and other Asian peoples who suffered unspeakable pains, misfortunes and disasters at the hand of the Japanese imperialist aggressors and a manifestation of the shamelessness peculiar to Japan.
    The analyst continues:
    The Japanese imperialists' crimes related to sex slavery were explicitly state and international crimes committed by them in an organized way by setting in motion government and military power. Accordingly, the Japanese government must bear responsibility for them both in name and reality in view of international law and human morality and fulfill it.
    Abusing the noble educational work, the Japanese reactionaries are working to arm the rising generations with the militarist idea through distorted history education and thus drive them to overseas aggression. This is a very dangerous move. If one committed a crime, he should tell the truth and honestly assume the responsibility for it.
    The mode of thinking of the people and their act are changing in conformity with the requirements of the new century oriented to concord, peace and progress. Japan would be well advised to clearly see the trend of the people's mindset and stop the acts of insulting and mocking the world's conscience and distorting the history of aggression to repeat it.

Broadcasters of North and South Hold Forum

     Mt. Kumgang Resort, September 6 (KCNA) -- A forum of broadcasters of the north and the south was held at the Mt. Kumgang resort from Sept. 4 to 6. Present there were broadcasters and officials concerned from both parts of Korea. Speeches were made there by Yang Si Un, vice-chairman of the Radio and TV Broadcasting Committee of the DPRK, and Song Yu Bo, standing member of the Broadcasting Committee of the south.
    They said the broadcasters of the north and the south should propagate through radio waves the unshakable patriotic will for reunification so that every Korean, whether he or she lives in the north or the south or overseas, may uphold the idea of "By our nation itself" and render impotent any anti-national, anti-reunification force bent on putting a brake on the reunification locomotive of the Korean nation vigorously speeding along like the wind, conscious of being a member of the nation.
    Discussions took place at the forum, divided into sections of programming and technology.

National Sports Contest of Farmers Held

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The 5th national sports contest of agricultural workers was held in the pleasure ground at the foot of scenic Moran Hill here from Sept. 1 to 6. It drew Korean wrestlers, Taekwon-do players, famous players of swinging, seesaw and Yut game and strong men from farms across the country. They fully displayed national sports technique and skills, special gifts, noble collectivism and sporting morality.
    The climax of the contest was the Korean wrestling and tug-of-war between the teams of North Phyongan Province and North Hwanghae Province which have had a hot competition since the first matches.
    North Phyongan Province came first, North Hwanghae Province second and Pyongyang City third in total points.
    Players from the Namap Co-op Farm in Yomju County, North Phyongan Province won the title in Korean wrestling, players from the Tonam Co-op Farm in Yonan County, South Hwanghae Province in Taekwon-do, players from North Phyongan Province in tug-of-war, players from Ryongchon County, North Phyongan Province in swinging and seesaw and players from Myonggan County, North Hamgyong Province in Yut game.

Greetings to Brazilian FM

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- DPRK Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun sent a message of greetings to his Brazilian counterpart Celso Luis Nunes Amorim on the occasion of its independence day. The message expressed the belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and two ministries would grow stronger.

Credentials to Kim Yong Nam from Pakistani Ambassador

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, received credentials from Noorullah Khan, Pakistani ambassador to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Wednesday. On hand were Kim Yong Il, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and a staff member of the Pakistani embassy here.
    After receiving the credentials the president had a talk with the ambassador.

Kim Yong Nam Meets South African Ambassador

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, met and had a talk with outgoing South African Ambassador to the DPRK Themba Kubheka at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Wednesday. Present there were Kim Hyong Jun, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and officials concerned.

E-Library Nears Completion

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Builders are carrying on the construction of an e-library attached to Kim Chaek University of Technology in Pyongyang at the final stage, determined to finish it before the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the Workers' Party of Korea. The e-library of a peculiar architectural style has a total floor space of over 17,000 square meters.
    They have ensured both the construction speed and quality, giving priority to the supply of finishing materials.
    A finishing touch is being given to the painting of the main hall and reading rooms and tiling in toilets.
    The installation of book delivery elevators for six reading rooms, the floor space of which is more than 400 square meters, is nearing completion. The project of the air condition control room and sound absorption room and the tiling of stones on the floor of corridors and stairs have been completed. Now painting of rails and pillars is at full swing.
    The laying of pipes for rainwater and sewage and setting of curbstones along 300-m section road have been nearly completed.
    Meanwhile, such trees of good species as maple, zelokova and cryptomeria have been planted around the e-library.

Name of Country Associated with Lofty Intention of Kim Il Sung

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea greets its 57th birthday on September 9. With the founding of the DPRK, Korea has demonstrated its honor and might as a sovereign and independent state in the international arena and a new type of people's state guided by the Juche idea came into being in the political history of humankind. The name of the DPRK, the country's name, means that it is an independent state representing the interests of all the Koreans and striving for the socialist construction in the northern half of the country and the peaceful reunification of the country. It also means that the state power is a revolutionary one of the workers and peasants based on a solid political and economic foundation. The state is the most democratic one which allows the broad sections of the people to participate in state affairs, enforces thorough dictatorship against class enemies and provides all the people with the political freedom, rights and abundant material and cultural life. The name of the country is associated with the love of President Kim Il Sung for the country and people.
    The institution of the state name was accompanied by an acute conflict of opinion. At that time some alien elements insisted that the name of the state should be "people's republic" or "democratic republic" without "people", saying that the DPRK was too long and foreigners did not name their countries in such a way. The President disclosed their intention to use the institution for their wicked purpose and led it in a correct way.
    He noted that their assertion was a very wrong and dangerous one misunderstanding the tasks at the then stage of the revolutionary developments, particularly ignoring the conditions of the divided country.

Big Rally Demands End to U.S. Forces' Presence in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Working people and school youth and children in Pyongyang held a big rally in front of the monument to the sinking of the U.S. ship for aggression "General Sherman" on the bank of the Taedong River Wednesday on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the U.S. occupation of south Korea. They denounced the U.S. military presence in south Korea and colonial rule over it and demanded an end to the 60-year long history of the U.S. imperialists' presence there. Ryang Man Gil, chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, in his report said that the U.S. imperialists who had long worked hard to realize their ambition to invade Korea illegally occupied south Korea under the mask of "liberator" on Sept. 8, 1945. Ever since the very day of their landing, they have enforced an unprecedentedly harsh colonial fascist rule, savagely trampling down upon the elementary freedom and democracy of the south Korean people and desperately pursuing the policy of colonial subjugation and the moves to perpetuate the division of the Korean nation, he noted, adding:

     Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, sent a message of sympathy to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono today in connection with an airliner crash in the air above Medan, North Sumatra of Indonesia, that claimed big human and property losses.     　Pyongyang, 7 de septiembre (ATCC) -- El portavoz del Comite Coreano de Medidas por la Indemnizacion a las "Consoladoras" de las Tropas Japonesas y Victimas de Arresto Forzado publico el dia 6 una declaracion en relacion con que acabaron de revelarse los documentos relativos a las "conversaciones" sostenidas entre el Sur de Corea y Japon en la decada de 1960 del siglo pasado. 　El condeno categoricamente a nombre de todas las victimas y los demas coreanos a los traidores quienes con la concertacion del segundo "tratado de Ulsa" vendieron a un precio barato la dignidad y los intereses de la nacion coreana y continuo: 　Los traidores projaponeses del Sur de Corea sostuvieron las "conversaciones" humillantes con Japon, en las cuales no pusieron sobre el tapete el problema de las consoladoras a las tropas japonesas y las victimas de arresto forzado de la epoca de la dominacion colonial del imperialismo japones y asi impidieron que estas ejercieran el derecho a cobrar la indemnizacion merecida.
    　Los imperialistas japoneses forzaron a 200 mil coreanas arrestadas a servir de consoladoras a sus uniformados y las asesinaron sin piedad para ocultar sus viles actos, lo cual fue un archi-crimen inedito en la historia.
    　A pesar de esto, los gobernantes surcoreanos ampararon tales crimenes monstruosos de los nipones para recibir misera cantidad de dinero. Esto fue un intolerable insulto a la nacion coreana y un acto antinacional que remato a cientos de miles de coreanas quienes murieron al cabo de ser violadas por los uniformados japoneses. 　Estos actos criminales son imborrables aunque pasen miles y miles de anos. La nacion coreana cobrara hasta el fin la disculpa e indemnizacion de los imperialistas japoneses.
