60th Anniversary of Rodong Sinmun Marked

     Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- A meeting commemorating the 60th anniversary of Rodong Sinmun took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Monday. Choe Chil Nam, editor-in-chief of the Rodong Sinmun, in a report said that President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the first issue of Jongro, predecessor of Rodong Sinmun, was made public on Nov. 1, Juche 34 (1945), thus providing the Workers' Party of Korea with a mighty ideological weapon for victoriously pushing ahead with the revolution and construction as a ruling party. The birth of the party organ was an epochal event that opened a new history of media building in our era guided by the immortal Juche idea, he said, and continued:
    The foundation of the party organ and the history of its development are shining with a history in which the legendary great persons' ideas of attaching importance to ideology and brush has been applied and brought into full bloom, the history associated with the efforts to defend the idea and line of the founder of the organ, the leader, based on the revolutionary view on the leader and resolutely safeguard the unity and cohesion of the party and the ideological position of socialism.
    In the worthwhile period of modeling the whole society on the Juche idea as well as the period of the building of a new society and the grim revolutionary war and the grand Chollima march the paper has invariably and creditably fulfilled its role as the mouthpiece of the party, defender and implementer of the party policies and educator of the masses. It is the great pride of Rodong Sinmun that the paper has strengthened and developed as a mighty ideological weapon for carrying out the Songun revolutionary cause.
    The paper could develop into the most revolutionary media, breaking through all tempests in the past six decades, which is a noble fruition of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il's energetic leadership.
    Rodong Sinmun has developed into a militant weapon for defending the single-minded unity of the whole party and army and all the people around the headquarters of the revolution like the apple of the eye and pushing ahead with the Songun revolutionary cause and a friendly companion loved by the party members and other people under the wise guidance of the WPK and the leader.
    The reporter called on all officials, journalists, editors and employees of the Rodong Sinmun to discharge their heavy yet honorable mission as ideological standard-bearers in the sacred struggle to accomplish the Songun revolutionary cause with the pride of having created the glorious history of victory and exploits.
    The meeting was attended by Choe Thae Bok and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and other officials concerned.
    Members of a delegation of the Choson Sinbo of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan staying in the socialist homeland were also present.

Scientific Symposium on Reconstructed Kaesong Ryongthong Temple

     Kaesong, October 31 (KCNA) -- A scientific symposium commemorating the reconstruction of Kaesong Ryongthong Temple was held on Oct. 31. Present at the symposium were Buddhists, scholars and experts in the field of historic and cultural relics in the north and the south and those related to Buddhism of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon). Scholars of the north, south and Chongryon in their speeches proved on the basis of excavatory data and historic records that the temple is a holy place of Buddhism in Korea. They spoke of the significance of the reconstruction of the temple.
    They called upon scholars and Buddhists in the north, south and overseas to positively contribute to achieving national reunification and national unity and cooperation under the banner of the historic June 15 joint declaration.

Ryongthong Temple Unveiled

     Kaesong, October 31 (KCNA) -- The Ryongthong Temple, one of historic and cultural heritage of Koryo which was the first unified state in the history of Korea, has been restored to the original state in Kaesong. The Ryongthong Temple, well-known to the East as a holy place of Buddhism in Korea from the Koryo Dynasty, was completely burnt at the end of the 16th century. Its pagoda and others had since been buried underground for a long time.
    Leader Kim Jong Il acquainted himself with the situation and took all necessary measures for the reconstruction of the temple. The temple has eventually been restored to the original state in the June 15 era of reunification thanks to the efforts and sincerity of historians and builders in the north and compatriots in the south and overseas true to the noble patriotism of Kim Jong Il.
    A ceremony of completing the reconstruction of the temple was held on Oct. 31.
    Present there were Buddhists, scholars and experts in the fields of historic and cultural relics in the north and the south and those related to Buddhism of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan.

Solidarity Meeting of World Christians for Peace and Reunification of Korea Held

     Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- An international solidarity meeting of Christians for supporting peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula took place in Frankfurt from Oct. 19 to 22 under the sponsorship of the German Evangelical Church. The meeting was attended by the delegation of the DPRK Christian Federation, Christian representatives from more than ten countries including Germany, Britain, Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States and representatives of the World Council of Churches, more than 200 in all. The meeting heard speeches supporting the DPRK's proposals for national reunification and the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration before discussing the issue of joint actions for escalating the international movement for peace against war to cope with the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK and the grave situation prevailing on the Korean Peninsula due to it.
    An appeal to the Christians all over the world was adopted at the meeting.
    The appeal strongly denounced the U.S. for deliberately escalating the tension on the peninsula and pushing the situation on it to the brink of war, holding that it is impossible to achieve peace, security and reunification of the Korean Peninsula unless the U.S. reckless anti-peace and anti-reunification moves are foiled.
    The appeal called on the world Christians to solidarize with the Korean people in their nationwide movement for peace against war and for reunification and patriotism, resolutely foil the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK, its war exercises and arms buildup for war and wage a vigorous worldwide movement for peace against war demanding the U.S. withdraw its troops from south Korea and conclude a peace agreement with the DPRK.

Japan's Pressure upon UN over Issue of Its Contribution Assailed

     Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- Japan is pressurizing the United Nations over the issue of its contribution to the UN in a foolish bid to attain its sinister purpose, blustering that even the UN can not exist without money. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says:
    　A Japanese delegate said at the recent meeting of the Fifth Committee of the 60th UN General Assembly that it is unreasonable for Japan to remain the second largest contributor to the UN after the U.S. in the future, too, asserting that it would request at the negotiations on fixing the contributions to the UN slated to begin from the next year for deciding on contributions, taking "the position and responsibilities of member nations into due consideration." Japan busied itself just before the UN session, increasing the aid to the UN and several other countries and offering "economic aid" to them as if it would spare nothing for them, the news analyst observes, and goes on:.
    Japan is complaining about its big contribution to the UN and showing off its bulged purse in a bid to hold a responsible post at the UN come what may. This is, however, nothing but poor diplomacy of Japan utterly indifferent to its own deplorable position and the mind-set of the world people. The majority of the UN member nations have opposed Japan's bid for permanent membership of the UN Security Council at its session because they could not trust Japan as it is after a sinister purpose without redressing its past crimes.
    It is quite natural for the world to severely criticize and jeer at Japan as a blind country and a political dwarf that, defying the demand of the times, is unable to measure the weight of the UN, interested in money only.
    Should Japan challenge the UN over its contribution, instead of repenting of its past crimes, it will have a hell of a time. This is the world's unanimous comment and advice.

"Bill on Rice Negotiation" under Fire in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly issued a statement on Oct. 28 in protest against the forcible passage of the "bill on rice negotiation" by the Unification, Diplomacy and Trade Committee of the "National Assembly". The statement charged that the political quarters' forcible passage of the bill so strongly opposed by the peasants is little different from a declaration of the abandonment of agriculture.
    Referring to the fact that many countries are standing firm against the pressure of the U.S. to open agriculture, the statement expressed indignation at the south Korean political quarters seeking to leave the rice market to the mercy of the outsiders.
    Political quarters' abandonment of agriculture means the abandonment of sovereignty and the political quarters intending to spoil agriculture, the life line of the peasants, are no more than parasites sucking the blood of the people for the profits of the U.S.

Youths and Students Called upon to Struggle for Withdrawal of U.S. Forces from S. Korea

     Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Youth and Students Solidarity for the Implementation of the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration reportedly released a statement on Oct. 28, 13 years since the murder of Yun Kum I by a GI in south Korea calling on the youths and students to play the vanguard role in the struggle for the pullback of the U.S. forces from south Korea. The statement recalled that man killer Kenneth Michael belonging to the U.S. Second Infantry Division raped Yun in broad daylight and killed her in cold blood in October 1992.
    One cannot repress towering indignation at the American killer, when bringing to one's mind the horror scene of murder at that time, the statement noted, adding that GI crimes are still rife in south Korea and the American man-killers are strutting about, unpunished.
    The situation goes to clearly prove that the people are fated to meet deaths again so long as the humiliating SOFA imposed upon south Korea by the U.S. remains in force and its forces are present there, the statement noted.

October Issue of "The Juche Idea" Released in Japan

     Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- The National Liaison Council of the Japan Society for Study of Kim Jong Il's Works published the October issue of "The Juche Idea", its organ. Under the title "Independence, Peace and Cooperation Are Trend of World" the first page of the paper carried a photo-accompanied account of a lecture meeting on the issue of the Korean Peninsula held in Saitama Prefecture.
    Speakers at the lecture meeting disclosed the essence of the Japanese government's distortion of history textbooks and said that the trend of the present era is independence against the U.S., the paper said, adding that they noted the U.S. and Japan should clearly see the trend of the times and improve the relations with the DPRK.
    Many Japanese people have not understood that Japan is an assailant state of the Second World War, the speakers said, calling for conducting the anti-war movement in Japan with a view to giving correct understanding of history to people, according to the paper.
    The paper devoted its second, fourth and fifth pages to a photo-accompanied account of a meeting on the return of the second Japanese delegation for exchange of the study of the Juche idea which visited the DPRK in August last.
    Seen in the third page of the paper is an article written by a university professor which accused Japan of its bid for a permanent seat of the UN Security Council and urged the Japanese government to liquidate its past, drop its policy toeing the American line and improve relations with the surrounding countries including the DPRK.

60th Birthday of WPK Celebrated Abroad

     Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- A seminar on leader Kim Jong Il's work, film shows, a meeting and a lecture took place in the Czech Republic, Syria and Guinea from Oct. 8 to 20 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the Workers' Party of Korea. The participants of the film shows watched Korean films such as "Military Parade and Mass Demonstration Celebrating the 55th Birthday of the Glorious Workers' Party of Korea" and "The Brilliant History of Great Leadership".
    Present at the functions were public figures and people from all walks of life of those countries.
    Jaroslavc Kapka, chairman of the Czech Group for the Study and Materialization of the Juche Idea, said at a seminar on Kim Jong Il's work "The Workers' Party of Korea Is the Party of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung" that the WPK would shine as the eternal party of Kim Il Sung as it is under the leadership of Kim Jong Il who has fully inherited and developed the idea and cause of Kim Il Sung.
    Samir Ismail, dean of the Faculty of Politics of Damascus University, Syria, noted in his speech made at a meeting that over the last six decades the WPK has led the Korean people along the road of victory, expressing the belief that the Korean people would surely build a great prosperous powerful nation and achieve the cause of national reunification under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    Korean books including works of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il were donated to the university at the end of the meeting.
    The director general for Rural Construction of the Ministry of Agriculture of Guinea, said in his lecture titled "The invincible Workers' Party of Korea" that the WPK is a great party with experience of protracted struggle and no force on earth can overpower the Korean people united close around the WPK led by Kim Jong Il.

Increased Role of Rodong Sinmun Called for

     Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in an editorial dedicated to its 60th anniversary says that the media of the Workers' Party of Korea including Rodong Sinmun would hold higher the brush of Songun given by the party and defend and preserve our idea, system and cause to the last. President Kim Il Sung's founding of Rodong Sinmun on Nov. 1, 1945 marked a historic event of great significance in the Korean people's political life and in the efforts to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche, the editorial says, and goes on:
    Every page of the WPK's history that has led the most difficult and complicated struggle in our era to victory is associated with the feats performed by the media. The party organ has upheld the party's idea and cause in the van as a successful educator, reliable agitator and faithful mouthpiece. Rodong Sinmun is highly proud of having shared its destiny with the headquarters of the revolution as a witness to the great revolutionary history of Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and remained intensely loyal to the party's leadership.
    The party's media including the newspaper have greeted the new era of its development under the banner of Songun idea. The media have successfully discharged their mission and role as a guide and bugler in transforming man, society and nature as required by the great Juche idea, the Songun idea, after setting it as the supreme principle of all their struggles and activities to thoroughly implement Kim Jong Il's Songun idea and line. Herein lie the essential characteristics of our media and their high prestige.
    The party's media serve as a stronghold that devotedly defends the headquarters of Songun revolution, sharing destiny with it to the last, a mighty ideological weapon for strengthening the unity for Songun revolution in every way and mouthpiece of justice and its guardian as they have firmly preserved the working-class principle and socialist principle and resolutely foiled the imperialists' ideological offensive against socialism.      Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- The demand for the various kinds of paints made by the Kyongryong Joint Venture Corporation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea -- distempers and paints for wood, industrial facilities, rolling stocks and concrete floor --is ever increasing at local and foreign market. Rodong Sinmun denuncia malsana intencion de Japon

    　Pyongyang, el primero de noviembre (ATCC) -- El diario Rodong Sinmun inserto en su numero del dia primero un comentario individual en relacion con que Japon maniobra para lograr su malsano proposito al ejercer presion sobre la ONU en cuanto al problema de la asignacion de fondos para el mantenimiento de esta organizacion internacional. En una reunion del 5 comite del 60 periodo de sesiones de la Asamblea General de la ONU, el delegado japones dijo que es injusto que su pais siga ocupando el segundo lugar despues de EE.UU. en la asignacion de fondos de la ONU y anadio que en las negociaciones para definir la proporcion de asignacion de fondos que se iniciarian desde el ano proximo Japon expondra criterio de que "tome apropiadamente en consideracion la posicion y la responsabilidad de los paises miembros", senala el comentario y prosigue:
    En visperas del presente periodo de sesiones de la Asamblea General de la ONU Japon armo bulla hablando de aumentar el "fondo de apoyo" y ofrecer "cooperacion economica" para la ONU y otros varios paises.
    Despliega una diplomacia enana con oidos sordos a opinion internacional agitando bolsa de dinero para ocupar la posicion responsable de la ONU. En la escena de la Asamblea General la mayoria de los paises miembros se opusieron a la intencion de Japon de adquirir el atributo de miembro permanente del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, porque no pueden confiar a este pais isleno que abriga negro designio sin liquidar su pasado criminal. Es natural que el mundo censura y se burla de Japon calificando a este de "ciego" y "enano politico" que cegado por el dinero desoye la voz de la epoca y no sabe la importancia de la ONU.
    Al agitar la bolsa de dinero en la ONU en vez de arrepentirse de sus crimenes del pasado, sufrira una desgracia aun mayor. Esto es un consejo general del mundo.
