Might of Singlehearted Unity Displayed in 2005

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- Juche 94 (2005) is a proud year when the entire officers and men of the Korean People's Army and people powerfully demonstrated once again the might of single-minded unity centering around the leader and the Party. Leader Kim Jong Il clearly indicated the road ahead of the general onward march of the Songun revolution this year to celebrate the 60th anniversaries of the Workers' Party of Korea and national liberation and wisely led the army and people in the van of the march.
    He has given field guidance to units of the KPA and various sectors of the socialist construction one after another all the year round from the beginning of January, the coldest month, to strengthen the single-minded unity of the revolutionary ranks in every way and to lead the revolution and construction to victory.
    He paid working visit to scores of army units and economic institutions from the early November to the middle of December. This concentrically shows his indefatigable revolutionary activities.
    Infinitely inspired by the devotion of Kim Jong Il, the whole Party, the whole army and the entire people made signal successes in all fields, political, military, economic and cultural, and thus celebrated the 60th birthday of the WPK as a grand festival of victors.
    The servicepersons launched a campaign to follow the example of O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment which safeguarded President Kim Il Sung at the cost of lives during the anti-Japanese armed struggle, preparing themselves as stalwarts defending the leader with their lives.
    Meanwhile, giant successes were registered in the economic sectors, too.
    The dam of the Nyongwon Power Station and the Paekma-Cholsan Waterway, gravity-fed irrigation system, were built as monumental edifices in the Songun era and the Taean Friendship Glass Factory, the symbol of the Korea-China friendship, was commissioned with success. And more than 130 objects have been built or reconstructed on an expansion basis and over 8,500 inventions introduced into production. And over 1,600 industrial establishments carried out their yearly plans ahead of schedule.
    In particular, the military parade, torch procession and grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang", which were held in celebration of the 60th birthday of the WPK, fully demonstrated how strongly the army and people are rallied behind Kim Jong Il.
    All the successes made by the single-minded unity show the unswerving will of the servicepersons and people to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation without fail in any adversities, rallied close around the leader.

Victory Day of Cuban Revolution Observed

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- A meeting and a photo exhibition took place at the Chollima House of Culture on Wednesday on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Cuban revolution. Kim Yong Jin, minister of Education who is chairman of the Korea-Cuba Solidarity Committee, in a speech at the meeting referred to the fact that the Cuban people have achieved many successes in different fields closely rallied around the Communist Party of Cuba, adding this clearly proves that no force on earth can prevent the Cuban people from building socialism and that socialism is a science.
    The Korean people will as always stand by the fraternal Cuban people in their struggle to achieve independence and build socialism, he stressed. Ruben Perez Valdes, Cuban ambassador to the DPRK, in his speech said that the Cuban people have made great achievements in different fields despite the U.S. imperialists' persistent moves to isolate and stifle Cuba.
    The peoples of the two countries have dynamically advanced towards a sure victory under the leadership of Supreme Commander Fidel Castro Ruz and Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il.

Important Anniversaries of DPRK Observed Abroad

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- Film shows, round-table talks and friendly gatherings took place in Tajikistan, the Czech Republic and Laos from Dec. 8 to 15 on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's assumption of office as supreme commander of the Korean People's Army and the 88th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk. The chairman of the Communist Party of Tajikistan, after watching the Korean film "Brilliant History of Great Leadership", said that on-site guidance has been the unique leadership mode of Kim Jong Il and it is characterized by thinking and inquiry aimed at showing the army and people the way to build a great prosperous powerful nation.
    He is a state leader of high caliber as he made a lucid analysis of the need of the times, the desire of the people and actual conditions of the country, always coming to grips with realities, and set out ideas and theories, line and policies suited to them, the chairman stressed.
    The chairman of the Paektusan Czech-Korean Friendship Association at round-table talks said that thanks to Kim Jong Il's Songun policy the Korean people have steadfastly advanced along the road chosen by themselves despite the U.S. unprecedented moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK. The deputy editor-in-chief of the Newspaper Dialog of the Czech Republic at round-table talks sincerely hoped that the Korean people would as ever defend socialism without making any concession on their principle.

GNP of S. Korea Termed Dregs of Society

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today in a signed commentary brands the Grand National Party in south Korea as a group of betes-noires in connection with the publication of the results of investigation made into the illegal wiretapping by the Security Planning Board and the Intelligence Service in south Korea. It says: The GNP is such group of betes-noires that just a little probe into its past is enough to dig out its hideous crimes. This is clearly proved by the cases of illegal wiretapping perpetrated by the Security Planning Board which sparked a big furor in south Korea for the past several months since July. The GNP group has kicked off quite a row while dastardly pulling up others instead of admitting and apologizing for the scandal since it was disclosed. The predecessors of the GNP resorted to such illegal wiretapping to fake up cases for suppressing those people and its political rivals that stood for independence, democracy and reunification.
    The true aim sought by the GNP is to keep the crimes it has committed buried into oblivion and come to power again at any cost.
    It is necessary to probe the truth behind every crime committed by GNP and sternly punish the criminals on behalf of the nation irrespective of the statute of limitations in order to prevent the dark era of fascism from coming to south Korea again, improve the inter-Korean relations by the concerted efforts of the Koreans and achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea.

Rodong Sinmun on Bankruptcy of U.S. Policy of Hegemony and "Anti-Terrorist Strategy"

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- This year the United States identified its policy for supremacy and "anti-terrorist strategy" with its foreign policy and has worked hard to carry them out but they have gone totally bankrupt. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article. The U.S. has pursued its foreign policy this year as a lever for modern-type aggression and domination, a combination of carrot and stick for putting the world under its domination and control, holding olive branches in the one hand and a whip in the other, the article notes. Citing facts to prove this, the article goes on:
    This year, in particular, the U.S. imperialists have resorted to the desperate moves to stifle the DPRK by force of arms.
    Neo-conservative forces busied themselves to expand the "anti-terrorist war" while vociferating about "the spread of democracy" with the appearance of the second-term Bush administration as a momentum, but they could not hold in check the onward movement of history.
    The U.S. call for an "end to tyranny" was unanimously denounced and rejected by the world for its reactionary nature and aggressive nature, rendering it further isolated worldwide.
    This year various countries tended to shun military assistance to the U.S., standing against its policies of supremacy and high-handed practices. This threw Washington into a tighter corner.
    This year the U.S. imperialists were rebuffed and condemned as morally vulgar and worst rogue state in the world as they committed violence, terrorism and bestial human rights abuses.
    The U.S. belligerent ruling forces singled out "an end to tyranny" and "worldwide spread of freedom and democracy" as the general goal of their foreign policy this year and have made desperate efforts to attain it. But they have faced the worst political crisis and isolation since they came to power. This irrefutably proves that the U.S. policy of hegemony and "anti-terrorist strategy" have gone bankrupt and their doom is inevitable. Rodong Sinmun on National Independence and Cooperation

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- National independence and cooperation are a powerful weapon to establish the sovereignty of the Korean nation free from outside domination and interference and propel the victorious advance of the cause of independent reunification. Rodong Sinmun says this in a signed article today. It goes on:
    National independence and cooperation are an effective mode of the Korean nation's victorious struggle against the foreign forces, which is proved by the experience of this year's struggle.
    The Korean nation has achieved great successes in the struggle against the foreign forces this year by materializing national cooperation for independence in solidarity with surging hatred for the U.S. imperialist aggressors.
    National cooperation for independence means independence against the foreign forces. Only when the Korean nation invariably upholds the banner of national independence and cooperation can it win victory in confrontation with the diabolic foreign forces and accomplish the cause of national independence and reunification.
    The criminal moves of the U.S. imperialists to isolate and stifle the DPRK and stamp out the Korean nation's cause of independence and reunification will be more vicious. But this is a last-ditch effort of those who are scared by the struggle of the Korean nation aspiring after anti-U.S. independence and cooperating close with each other.

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il was presented with floral baskets and congratulatory letters by the economic and commercial councilors' corps here and officials in charge of cultural and friendly relations of foreign embassies here on the occasion of the New Year Juche 95 (2006). They were conveyed to officials concerned by Gu Jinsheng, economic and commercial councilor of the Chinese embassy here, on behalf of the economic and commercial councilors' corps and by Ioan Dedean, councilor of the Romanian embassy here, on behalf of officials in charge of cultural and friendly relations on Dec. 29.

Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Unit

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, inspected KPA Unit 2651 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment. Guided by the commander of the unit, he looked round the room devoted to the education of servicepersons through revolutionary relics and the room devoted to the history of the unit.
    Seeing the historic mementoes and other relics associated with the footprints of President Kim Il Sung, he said that the unit has grown to be matchless combat ranks under the wise leadership and meticulous care of the President. He underscored the need for the unit to always remember the benevolence the President showed for it.
    After learning about the unit's performance of duty, he watched its servicepersons' training. He expressed satisfaction over the fact that all the servicepersons have grown to be a-match-for-a-hundred fighters fully prepared politically and ideologically and in military technique to firmly defend the socialist country.
    After acquainting himself with how the political work is being conducted among the servicepersons, he praised the unit for conducting effective revolutionary and class education by use of diverse educational materials and training its servicepersons as heroic human bullets and self-blasting fighters in the new century through a dynamic movement to learn from the noble revolutionary spirit displayed by heroes Ri Su Bok, Kim Kwang Chol and Kil Yong Jo, in particular. He called on all the servicepersons to make it a rule and habit to read books, noting it is very good that the unit has built a modern library and made a good use of it, thus establishing a revolutionary habit of reading.
    He then took deep care of the servicepersons' living, going round a mess hall, a kitchen, a non-staple food store and other supply service facilities. He saw a store stacked with quality materials for preparing non-staple food gathered from the unit's sideline fields this year. He expressed great satisfaction over its success, saying it is one more new reality brought about by servicepersons in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance. Great Care Taken for National Heritage

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- Great efforts have been made to excavate, preserve and introduce the national cultural heritages in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea this year. Researchers in the field of historical studies including the Archeological Institute under the Academy of Social Sciences unearthed many pieces of valuable relics in an extra-large house site in Honam-ri, Samsok District, Pyongyang on the bank of the Taedong River. They show the cultural development in the Pyongyang area in the Neolithic era.
    The Ryongthong Temple in Kaesong, one of the historical remains in the days of the Kingdom of Koryo, the first unified state in the Korean history, was restored to the original state. And a lot of cultural heritages were excavated or rehabilitated to the original state in different parts of the country. An exhibition of historical remains and relics newly collected was held in the Korean Central History Museum on the occasion of the 60th anniversaries of the Workers' Party of Korea and national liberation.
    On the display there were photos and remains of 119 pieces of 49 kinds of relics including "Man of Hwadae", human fossil recently found out in the area of Soksong-ri, Hwadae County, North Hamgyong Province. All of them are worthy of national treasure.
    A national furniture relics show was arranged at the Korean Folk Museum. The over 240 exhibits show well the wisdom and talent of the Korean nation which had created a civilized culture from early years.
    In addition, the Korean Cultural Preservation Agency published the books "Illustrated Guide to Korean Natural Products" (Vol. 1), "Collection of Colorful Paintings" which introduces more than 300 kinds of patterns for painting, an album of historical relics and scenic spots and other books.

Ryongnam Ship Repair Factory Expanded

     Pyongyang, December 29 (KCNA) -- The Ryongnam Ship Repair Factory of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has been reconstructed on an expansion basis. The factory successfully constructed a large dock, three wharves to repair big cargo ships, a combined repair workshop, an acetylene generating workshop, oxygen generating workshop, a heavy oil power plant, a wind and solar power station over the last four years.
    The newly built Dock No. 2 can repair several ships of tens of thousands of tons simultaneously.
    The repair processes are automatized and controlled by computer. There are in the dock a horizontal jib crane, gantry crane and general control room. It is divided into the main sluice, operated by computer, and the middle one.
    The combined repair workshop which covers the floor space of over 17,000 square meters specializes in making ship-body pipes while repairing propellers and power system.
    The acetylene generating workshop does not produce any industrial spent water.
    The wind and solar power station turns out stabilized electricity for the general control room, dwelling houses and cultural welfare facilities. Its expansion on a modern basis has consolidated the material and technical foundation for developing water transport.
