Joint Seminar on Songun Idea Held in Italy

     Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- A joint seminar, lecture, photo and book exhibition on the Songun idea were held in Rome on Dec. 29 last year on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's assumption of office as supreme commander of the Korean People's Army and the 88th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk. Exhibited in the venue of the photo and book exhibition were photos showing the personalities of the three generals of Mt. Paektu as great persons and Kim Jong Il's Songun leadership exploits and photos and books introducing the real picture of Songun Korea.
    Miriam Pelegrini Feri, president of the Italian Committee for the Study of the Songun Idea for Independence and Sovereignty, said that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has firmly defended its socialist system and positively developed the national economy despite the imperialists' all forms of attack and accusation thanks to the Songun politics pursued by Kim Jong Il.
    He went on:
    The Songun politics is the most just political mode for firmly defending the sovereignty of the country from the imperialists' aggression and guaranteeing the economic development and prosperity of the country.
    He called on all members of the committee to make an active contribution to defending Korean-style socialism, take an active part in seminars on the Juche idea and the Songun idea and widely disseminate them among broad sections of people.

Abolition of NSL Urged in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- The Family Movement for Realizing Democracy of south Korea reportedly held the 600th Thursday rally in Seoul on January 5. Jo Sun Dok, permanent chairperson of the movement, and other speakers said that this movement has waged an indefatigable struggle for the release of prisoners of conscience and the abolition of the "National Security Law." They went on:
    There have been 600 Thursday rallies up to this date but the evil law remains as it is and the number of prisoners of conscience is on the increase. The shortcut to letting all prisoners of conscience in distress return to their families is for all progressive forces to join the ranks of those struggling to achieve democracy.
    The Thursday rally will continue till the NSL is abolished and not a single prisoner of conscience is left in this land.

DPRK Ambassador to Uganda Appointed

     Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- Pak Hyon Jae was appointed as DPRK ambassador e. p. to Uganda, according to a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly.

Young People Vow to Implement Tasks for This Year

     Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- The young vanguard met at the open-air theater in Youth Park on Monday to vow to carry through the militant tasks laid down in the joint New Year editorial. At the meeting, Kim Kyong Ho, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, made a report which was followed by speeches.
    The reporter and speakers said that the young people are a standard-bearer of the vanguard who should stand in the van of the present worthwhile general advance. The young people should join the People's Army to glorify their youthful days with arms and fully discharge their mission in the fields of agriculture, power, coal and metal industries and railway transport, they noted.
    They stressed the need for the youths to successfully build the Paektusan Songun Youth Power Station and other grand monumental edifices and solve scientific and technical problems arising in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation and the need for students to prepare themselves to be competent scientific and technical personnel.
    The meeting adopted an appeal to the five million-strong young vanguard across the country.
    The appeal called upon the young people to become fiery fighters in devotedly safeguarding the leader and staunch revolutionary fighters who are thoroughly equipped with the Juche idea and the Songun idea of the Workers' Party of Korea and have acquired the revolutionary soldier spirit as their lifeblood.
    The young people, it said, should become performers of feats and young heroes in the vigorous struggle to build an economic power in the 21st century through a high-pitched drive for effecting a great Songun revolutionary surge just as the Korean people brought about the great Chollima upswing after the war to advance toward a socialist power.
    Present at the meeting were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, officials concerned and youth and students in the city of Pyongyang.

Japan's Reckless Attempt at Preemptive Attack Assailed

     Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- Japan formally decided to jointly develop a missile defence system with the U.S. In this regard, Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article observes: It is the intention of the Japanese reactionaries to mount a preemptive armed attack on the DPRK and, furthermore, start a war of aggression against its neighboring countries. The U.S. and Japanese reactionaries made such decision under the pretext of "the nuclear threat" from the DPRK, the article notes, and goes on: The story of "the missile threat" from the DPRK much touted by the Japanese reactionaries is nothing but sophism intended to justify their moves for the joint development of the above-said system with the U.S., their ambition for reinvasion and attempt at a preemptive attack.
    It is the unchangeable intention of the Japanese reactionaries to realize their ambition for reinvasion with ease, backed by the U.S. The above-mentioned decision was made by Japan on the basis of its cunning calculation. That is to say, the Japanese reactionaries seek to use the signboard of "defence" for pulling the wool over the eyes of the Asian countries and the rest of the world that remain cautious against their moves for overseas aggression and stepping up their moves to turn Japan into a military power and their preparations for a preemptive attack. Given the outcries made by them that Japan would not rule out even a "preemptive attack" to cope with the "nuclear and missile threats" from the DPRK and it may fight a war with north Korea, the decision made by Tokyo recently cannot but be a serious development which can never be overlooked. Should the Japanese militarist forces again rush headlong into overseas aggression with the backing of a big country, failing to draw a lesson from the defeat of the Japanese imperialists in the last century, they will meet final destruction.

Rodong Sinmun Calls for Patriotic Movement for National Unity

     Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- It is an urgent national task reflecting national desire and the realistic requirements of the development of the reunification movement to make a vigorous patriotic movement for great national unity at present, Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article says, and goes on: The patriotic movement for great national unity should be invigorated on a nation-wide scale in order to smash the vicious challenge and obstructive moves of the U.S. and the south Korean conservatives, defend the June 15 era of reunification and achieve the peace and independent reunification of the country.
    Only great national unity guarantees peace, reunification and prosperity.
    It is very just and realistic to put forward the patriotic movement for great national unity as one of the three-point patriotic movement to be carried out by the Korean nation this year in the joint New Year editorial.
    The patriotic movement for great national unity is the driving force of independent reunification.
    It is important for all the Koreans to advance hand in hand for national reunification irrespective of all differences and keep the surging atmosphere of national reconciliation and unity.
    Solidarity among the reunification movement organizations in the north and the south and abroad should be further intensified in the practical reunification movement on the basis of the achievements already made.
    The organizational collusion and challenge of the pro-American conservatives in south Korea should be shattered by the great unity of the anti-conservative forces. If the moves of the anti-reunification conservative forces are allowed, national unity and the cause of independent reunification will make no progress.
    A new day of independent reunification will be brought earlier in the process of the patriotic movement for great national unity.

Scientists Respond to Joint New Year Editorial

     Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- The joint New Year editorial for Juche 95 (2006) says: "The revolution in science and technology should be further intensified so as to fully solve scientific and technical issues arising in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation". Upon receiving the editorial, the State Academy of Sciences of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is concentrating efforts on national cardinal tasks for the development of science and technology and objects to which scientific research achievements should be applied.
    Scientists of the academy are engaged in researches into promoting the technical update in different sectors of the national economy including the Chollima Steel Complex.
    Geologists have developed a unique underground tomography in years of painstaking efforts, making it possible to put the construction of dams and underground structures on a solid scientific basis.
    Heat engineers are pushing ahead with the project of replacing the boilers at the Chongchongang Thermal-power Plant with circulating fluidized bed boilers at the final stage.
    Scientists of the Academy of Agricultural Science, basing themselves on latest scientific and technical achievements, are carrying on the work of applying productive agricultural chemicals and latest technical goods to production in a bold way. And some of them are coming out to co-op farms to rapidly solve issues arising in farming on the spot.
    The Academy of Medical Science is conducting researches into the application of latest therapeutics to clinical practice. Scientists and technicians in other fields are also deepening researches for putting the national economy on a modern and scientific basis and developing ultra-modern technologies.

Great Upsurge of Chollima in Korea

     Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- Nearly 50 years have passed since the great upsurge of Chollima was effected in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It was initiated with the historic Plenary Meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea held in December Juche 45 (1956) as an occasion.
    The plenary meeting called upon the whole party and all the people of the country to make strenuous efforts and effect a new upswing in the socialist construction.
    In response to the revolutionary slogan "Charge at the speed of Chollima!" set forth by the WPK, all the working people took ten, nay one hundred steps while others taking one step and made continued innovation and uninterrupted advance, frustrating all sorts of passivism, conservatism and mysticism about technique.
    During the years world-startling miracles were wrought one after another in all sectors of the national economy.
    The Five-year National Economic Plan was overfullfilled in two and a half years in the total value of industrial output and in four years on all indices of products. In the period from 1957 to 1960 the total value of industrial output grew 3.5 times and the average annual industrial growth was 36.6 percent. The Korean people, with their strenuous efforts, manufactured tractors, trucks, excavators, cranes, etc. and completed the large-sized irrigation projects including the Kiyang irrigation project. As a result, they overcame the long-spell of droughts in the 1950s and reaped a bumper harvest. With the stamina with which they successfully carried out the Five-year National Economic Plan at the speed of Chollima, the Korean people made uninterrupted advance to build a self-supporting socialist industrial state in a short span of time.
    Like those who effected the great upsurge of Chollima to build a powerful socialist nation, upholding the decision of the December plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee, today the Korean people have turned out in the general onward march toward a new victory, full of confidence to make a greater leaping advance in hearty response to the call of the joint New Year editorial for building a powerful economic nation suitable to the 21st century through intensified revolutionary upsurge of Songun.

Temerario intento de Japon de ataque preventivo contra la RPDC

    　Pyongyang, 10 de enero (ATCC) -- El diario Rodong Sinmun inserto en su edicion del dia 10 un articulo individual en relacion con que Japon decidio oficialmente desarrollar junto con EE.UU. el Sistema Antimisiles. Esta decision parte del siniestro intento de los reaccionarios japoneses de dar golpe preventivo a la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea para luego desatar otras guerras de agresion contra los demas paises circunvecinos, revela el articulista y prosigue:
    Sin embargo, los reaccionarios de EE.UU. y Japon justifican el desarrollo conjunto del SA so pretexto de la "amenaza nuclear y de misiles" de la RPDC, que no pasa de ser un sofisma para dar razon a su ambicion de nueva agresion e intento del golpe preventivo.
    Es invariable la intencion de los reaccionarios japoneses de retomar facilmente el camino de agresion llevando a cuestas al Tio Sam. En ese contexto, tratan de enganar a los paises asiaticos y al mundo, que se mantienen alertos ante las maniobras de Japon de repetir su historia de agresion, con el falso rotulo de "defensa" detras del cual intenta acicatear sus preparativos para erigirse como una potencia militar y dar golpe preventivo. Por lo tanto, resulta un acontecimiento muy serio la reciente decision oficial de Japon, si se la vincula con las palabras agresivas de los reaccionarios de este pais isleno tales como "no vacilaremos en atacar preventivamente al Norte de Corea para hacer frente a la " y "no hay ningun inconveniente en hacer la guerra con este".
    Pero, si las fuerzas militaristas japonesas vuelven a tomar el camino de agresion a ultramar llevando a cuestas a la superpotencia y sin sacar lecciones de su derrota del siglo pasado, no podran evitar una destruccion total.

Italia: seminario conjunto sobre idea del Songun

    　Pyongyang, 10 de enero (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar el 29 de diciembre del ano pasado en Roma un seminario conjunto sobre la idea del Songun (priorizacion militar), conferencia y exhibicion de fotos y libros con motivo del 14o aniversario del nombramiento del Dirigente Kim Jong Il como Comandante Supremo del Ejercito Popular de Corea y del 88o aniversario del nacimiento de la heroina de lucha antijaponesa Kim Jong Suk. 　En el lugar de exhibicion estaban expuestas las fotos alusivas a las nobles personalidades de los 3 generales del monte Paektu y a las hazanas de la direccion del Songun del Dirigente y otras fotos y libros que dan a conocer aspectos de Corea del Songun.
    　La presidenta del Comite Italiano de Estudio de la Idea del Songun para la Soberania y la Independencia, Miriam Pelegrini Feri, al hacer uso de la palabra en el seminario, senalo que gracias a la politica de Songun del Presidente del Comite de Defensa Nacional, la RPDC defiende con firmeza el regimen socialista y desarrolla activamente la economia del pais pese a toda clase de ataques y censuras de los imperialistas.
    　Destaco que la politica de Songun es el mas justo modo politico que no solo salvaguarda firmemente el pais sino tambien asegura el desarrollo de la economia y prosperidad del pais.
