Korean People's Efforts for Independent National Reunification Supported by Guinean Figure
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- Banou Keita, director general of the Kim Il Sung Institute of Agricultural Science in Guinea, in a statement on Jan. 9 expressed his belief that the hurricane of the independent reunification of Korea would sweep everywhere Koreans live this year.
I am sure that all the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad will demonstrate once again the might of the nation this year by placing its interests above anything else under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and waging a vigorous struggle as required by the idea of "By our nation itself," he added.
He expressed full support for the joint New Year editorial carried by the newspapers of the Workers' Party of Korea, the Korean People's Army and the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League of the DPRK in which they called for waging a vigorous patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and overall national unity.
He went on to say:
During my several visits to Korea I saw the Korean people single-mindedly united around leader Kim Jong Il all out in the drive to build a reunified great prosperous powerful nation with high pride and noticed their strong will to reunify the country at an early date, in particular.
He reiterated his invariable friendly support for the efforts of the Korean people to achieve the country's independent reunification.
Japan's Vicious Moves against Chongryon under Fire
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- One of hideous crimes Japan has committed against the Korean people after the liberation of Korea is that it has pursued vicious hostile policy toward the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), says Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed article.
Referring to violence, violent language, arson, murder and other crimes the Japanese reactionaries committed against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan, the article continues:
Violence cases against Korean students in Japan have steadily increased after the adoption of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration.
Violent language, violence and threatening cases against students of Korean schools numbered 319 from September 2002 to January 2003.
Such acts have been committed all the more viciously against Chongryon and institutions under it. Seizure and financial expropriation of institutions including the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon have been undisguised and business activities of Korean traders and industrialists have been seriously infringed upon at the instigation of the Japanese government and under its direct intervention.
Worse still, the Japanese reactionaries tried to totally destroy Chongryon while hatching a plot to use even the "Self-Defence Forces" in case of emergency after defining Chongryon as a target of the law on the prevention of destructive activities, the law which is applicable to anti-state plot-breeding organizations or spy groups.
The Japanese government has put media in motion to create hostile atmosphere toward the DPRK, Chongryon and Koreans in Japanese society and put Koreans in Japan in fear and panic so that they can hardly live at ease.
Chongryon is a sacred overseas Koreans' organization of the DPRK and a legitimate body. It has so far conducted patriotic activities to defend the dignity and right of the Korean nation and has done nothing contrary to the Japanese law. The organization has played the role of a diplomatic mission for friendship between the Korean and the Japanese people because they have no diplomatic relations. The Japanese government is legally and morally liable to ensure Chongryon's activities and protect Koreans in Japan even in view of the content of the organization's activities and mission and international human rights norms. The Japanese government, however, has persecuted Chongryon and restricted its activities under this or that pretext, regarding it as a thorn in the flesh. It even shut its eyes to the Right hooligans' reckless terrorism against Chongryon and instigated them to do it.
Japan's persistent suppression and persecution of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan instead of apologizing and compensating for hideous crimes it has committed against the Koreans in the past is little short of adding another crime to its previous crimes.
Art Performance Given by Art Squad of Youth League
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- An art performance was given by the art squad of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League at the Central Youth Hall on Jan. 18 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the youth league.

Anniversary of Death of Mun Ik Hwan Commemorated in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- Functions were reportedly held in south Korea to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the death of Rev. Mun Ik Hwan.
A memorial service took place in Namyangju City, Kyonggi Province, on Jan. 14 with the attendance of members of the bereaved family of the deceased, members of civic and public organizations and public figures. Speakers said that Rev. Mun crossed the barrier of division and paved the way for reunification.
A lecture was given on Jan. 15 under the sponsorship of the Late Spring Commemoration Council of the Late Mun Ik Hwan for Embracing National Reunification in south Korea.
Poet Ko Un in a lecture on the subject of "Mun Ik Hwan and Reunification" said that Mun had the seed of the reunification movement rooted in our society at a time when words of "reunification" were prohibited owing to the assertion of frantic south-north confrontation.
Rev. Mun Ik Hwan practiced the reunification movement and shaped the way of reunification, providing the foundation of inter-Korean exchange, he added.
Great Alliance against Conservatives Called for in S. Korea
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- To achieve a great alliance against conservatives provides a basic way of meeting the blatant challenge of the pro-U.S. conservative forces, foiling their obstructive moves, steadily promoting progressive reforms and placing the movement for national reunification on a new higher stage in south Korea.
Rodong Sinmun today observes this in a signed article.
Referring to the fact that the ultra-right conservative forces including the Grand National Party of south Korea are making desperate efforts to bring back the old era characterized by flunkeyism and treachery, fascism and inter-Korean confrontation, the article says:
It is a very important socio-political and historical task for hewing out the destiny of the popular masses for independence to promote social progress and reforms and reenergize the movement for national reunification in south Korea.
In order to frustrate the vicious obstructive moves of the reactionaries of history and achieve democracy and reunification, the popular masses should hold high the banner of unity.
These reactionaries are bound to make desperate efforts when they find themselves in an abyss of ruin.
The pro-U.S conservative forces are standing in the way of the cause of the fellow countrymen including the south Koreans to achieve independence, extending their tentacles not only to the political circle but to judicature, prosecution, media and other fields exercising their influence upon them. This shows how arduous the struggle of the south Korean people for democracy and national reunification is.
In order to frustrate the reactionary offensive of the pro-U.S. conservative forces, not only the broad popular masses but progressive pro-reform and pro-reunification political parties, politicians and organizations and figures of various strata should firmly unite as one under the uplifted banner of unity to ensure the undisputed superiority of the progressive forces to the reactionary conservative forces.
Various political parties and organizations in south Korea aspiring after progress, reform and national reunification should achieve the great unity of the progressive forces irrespective of ideology and ideal, placing the common interests of the nation and people above anything else and transcending the difference in ideals and party groupings.

The book deals with the relationship between Paekje and Woe (Japan)--the big role and position of Paekje people in the establishment of a unified state in Japan and their influence on the historical development of Japan.

New Year Performance, Masterpiece of Juche-oriented Art
Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- The New Year celebration performance "Blue Sky over My Country" is going on at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium before full house, giving confidence and courage to the army and people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea who have turned out in the general advance of the Songun revolution this year.
