Ju Hui Chol, chairman of the Central Association, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee at the ceremony.
The preparatory committee set a celebration period from February 1 to 20 and decided to hold colorful functions including a meeting to adopt a congratulatory message to Kim Jong Il, a celebration meeting, a lecture, a film show and an art performance in the period.
Kim Jong Il's Visit to China Hailed by Foreign Figure
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- Guy Dupre, secretary general of the International Liaison Committee for Reunification and Peace in Korea (CILRECO), released a statement on Jan. 19 hailing leader Kim Jong Il's unofficial visit to China.
The statement said that the visit is of very great significance given the situation on the Korean Peninsula that has become tense these days due to the U.S. imperialists' hostile policy toward the DPRK and their persistent obstructions to the independent reunification of Korea and the impact such situation will have on the region and the rest of the world.
It further said:
The CILRECO notes with high appreciation the facts that both sides gave full assessment of the positive results made at a series of rounds of the Beijing six-party talks and unanimously agreed on the need to consistently maintain the stand to seek a negotiated peaceful solution to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and continue jointly pushing forward the process of the six-party talks and thus contribute to the final peaceful settlement of the issue.
The CILRECO hopes that the recent meeting of the top leaders of the DPRK and China will lead to the cooperation between the DPRK and China and provide a right way out to the six-party talks.
It hails the successes made by the top leaders of the two countries and calls on all progressive forces of the world to wage a positive international solidarity movement for putting pressure upon the U.S. government.
Special Bulletin on DPRK Issued in South Africa
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- The South African Association of Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People released a special issue of bulletin titled "Mt. Paektu Is the Birthplace of General Kim Jong Il and Spirit of Korea" on Jan. 23 in the run-up to his birthday.
The bulletin carried articles titled "Rare Leadership Art, Veteran Statesman", "The Leader Who Enjoys Undisputed Support from the People", "Socialist Korea Is Indestructible" "The Korean People Working Miracles," etc.
Noting that Mt. Paektu is a holy place of the revolution where leader Kim Jong Il was born, the bulletin stressed that socialism in the DPRK is making steady advance despite the imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK because the hearts of all the Korean people are filled with the spirit and mettle of Mt. Paektu.
It praised the Songun politics pursued by Kim Jong Il as an example to be followed by all countries and nations of the world aspiring after peace and sovereignty now that the imperialists' persistent high-handed practices are rampant there.
January 2006 Issue of "Juche Idea" Published in Japan
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- The National Liaison Council of the Japan Society for Study of Kim Jong Il's Works brought out the January 2006 issue of its newspaper "Juche Idea."
The paper devoted its first three pages to photo-accompanied news that a meeting was held in Tokyo to welcome the visit of the delegation of the Mt. Paektu Association for Independent Development of Mongolia to Japan.
The paper said that an opening speech was made by the secretary general of the Japanese Society for the Study of Kimilsungism at the meeting, a welcome address sent by the secretary general of the International Institute of Juche Idea was conveyed there and then its attendants heard a speech titled "The Socialist Theory of the Juche Idea" by the deputy dean of a faculty of Joson University who is director of the Board of the International Institute of Juche Idea. It went on:
At the meeting the executive chairman of the Mongolian association made a report titled "We have learned the theory and experience concerning independent development".
He said in his report that the Juche idea serves as the main basis on which many countries can achieve independence suited to their specific conditions, adding that it is a very important issue at present to deepen the study on all fields including politics, economy and culture on the basis of the Juche idea.
The paper allotted its fourth page to an article contributed by a representative consultant at the National Liaison Council of the Japan Society for Study of Kim Jong Il's Works in which he blasted the Japanese government for interfering in the "human rights issues" of the DPRK and other anti-imperialist and independent countries, taking advantage of the U.S. "human rights" racket against the DPRK. The paper devoted its fifth page to a photo-accompanied account of a meeting on peace and constitution of Asia held in Osaka under the co-sponsorship of the Osaka Council for Japan-Korea Friendship and the Osaka, Japan, Society for Korean Studies.
Young Koreans Council in U.S. Formed
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- The Young Koreans Council in the United States reportedly made public its inaugural declaration on Jan. 14.
Now that the era of national independence and the era of independent reunification have begun the young Koreans in the U.S. have inaugurated the Young Koreans Council in the U.S., an organization of the fresh overseas youth movement, and taken a giant step in response to the call of the times, said the declaration.
It stressed the council would make a contribution to achieving independence, democracy and reunification of Korea and the prosperity and development of the country and the nation.
The council will work hard to protect the democratic and national rights of the Koreans in the U.S., establish national identity among the Korean community in the U.S. and inherit and develop national culture, the declaration added.
U.S. Ceaseless Aerial Espionage against DPRK under Fire
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists committed more than 190 cases of aerial espionage against the DPRK in January by mobilizing strategic and tactical reconnaissance planes with diverse missions, according to military sources.
U-2s from the U.S. airforce base in south Korea made shuttle flights almost everyday in the sky above the areas of Tokjok Islet, Phochon and Sokcho to conduct an electronic reconnaissance of the depth of the DPRK.
On Jan. 9, 16 and 27, overseas based RC-135s made shuttle flights in the sky above Taebu Islet, Yangphyong and the area 40km east of Kangrung to spy on the important targets of the DPRK.
On Jan. 19, E-3 spied on the military targets of the north in the forefront area, while commanding the flying corps engaged in war exercises such as a ground-target striking drill and a close air support drill in the sky above the areas of Richon, Kongju, Yongdong, Koesan and Umsong.
The above-said aerial espionage intensified from the very beginning of the year clearly shows how frantic the U.S. imperialists have become in the moves to stifle the DPRK by force of arms and, at the same time, goes to prove that the U.S. is a criminal state keen to launch a war of aggression against other countries.
Intensified Worldwide Struggle for Independence Urged
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- It is a primary task for building an independent new world to protect independence.
Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed article.
It goes on:
It is one of the important issues in protecting independence to respect the ideology and system, national tradition and culture of each country.
The countries struggling for independence are in the relationship of supporting and cooperating with each other in the struggle for peace against aggression and war. It is necessary, therefore, to seek a negotiated settlement of differences and disputes among them and not to allow the imperialists to perpetrate military intervention and aggression against sovereign states under any circumstances. Differences and disputes among developing countries are the issues to be solved among those countries in the course of advancing hand in hand to achieve their common goals and, therefore, they should not allow any fight among themselves or invite foreign forces to intervene in them.
It is a most vivid expression of independence to defend and consolidate the Juche character and national character. Only by doing so, is it possible to achieve and defend the independence of the popular masses and realize the independent development and prosperity of the nation. For a country and nation it is a main lever for exercising sovereignty to pursue an independent policy in the external relations.
All countries and peoples should wage an uncompromising struggle against any infringement upon their independence. One should neither take a fence-sitting attitude towards any aggression against any other country for the mere reason that it is not against one's own country nor support the imperialists in this practice.
Defending independence serves as a common slogan of struggle every country should hold aloft in the new century and a guarantee for its independent development.
The Korean people will as ever wage a dynamic struggle to defend independence in the international arena under the banner of Songun, the banner of independence, the article concludes.
U.S. Urged to Remove Hurdle Lying in Way of Six-Party Talks
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the White House of the United States was reported to have recently urged the DPRK to abandon and dismantle its nuclear program first, adding this principle of the U.S. remains very clear.
Rodong Sinmun Tuesday observes in a signed commentary in this regard:
His assertion clearly reflects the U.S. position not to stand for a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula but to put pressure upon the DPRK.
The intention of the Bush administration to bring down the socialist system in the DPRK by force of arms out of extreme bitterness toward it found its vivid manifestation in an endless string of reckless remarks made by Vershbow, U.S. ambassador to south Korea. He dared slander the dignified DPRK as a "criminal regime" and worked hard to tarnish its image, even citing sheer fabrications shortly ago. He went the lengths of openly threatening and blackmailing the DPRK, blustering that in case the north creates "instability" over the nuclear issue the U.S. has a plan to cope with it. Timed to coincide with his outcry, U.S. hard-line hawks let loose a whole string of nonsense and outcries, driving the situation to a complicated phase.
As seen above, the solution to the pending issues between the DPRK and the U.S. and the process to achieve peace and stability in the region are facing bigger challenge due to the self-righteous hostile policy pursued by the Bush administration to stifle the DPRK.
It is a daydream of the U.S. to stifle the DPRK by force of arms. As already clarified by the DPRK, it is sticking to its stand to seek ways of overcoming difficulties lying in the way of the six-party talks and of achieving progress in the talks. The U.S. should refrain from misinterpreting and disregarding the stand and efforts of the DPRK.
The U.S. should face up to the reality with a cool head and stop at once such criminal moves to throw obstacles to the efforts for peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. Otherwise, it would be hard to expect any progress in the six-party talks and the settlement of the pending issues between the DPRK and the U.S.
U.S. Decision to Deploy Latest Type Nuclear Carrier in Yokosuka Assailed
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korean Jurists Committee made public a statement on Jan. 30 strongly demanding the U.S. repeal its recent decision to permanently deploy its latest type nuclear carrier George Washington at its naval base in Yokosuka, Japan, so as to replace its aging carrier Kittyhawk. This is a grave threat to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and peace and security in Northeast Asia, the statement noted, and continued:
The decision clearly proves what dangerous phase the U.S. preparations for a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK have reached.
As the reality shows, the U.S. is chiefly responsible for having strained the situation on the Korean Peninsula and hamstrung the solution to the nuclear issue. It is none other than the U.S. that grossly reneged on its international commitments and obligations under international law.
The U.S. said more than once that it has no intention to launch a military attack and invasion against the DPRK.
It committed itself in the joint statement adopted at the fourth round of the six-party talks that it has no intention to attack or invade the DPRK with nukes or conventional weapons and it would respect its sovereignty and peacefully co-exist with it and take measures to normalize the relations with it.
As for Japan, it is the only country in the world which suffered the tragedy of nuclear holocaust caused by the U.S. The Japanese people do not want to face such tragedy again and preceding governments of Japan considered the three non-nuclear principles which prohibit the production of nuclear weapons in Japan, the introduction and deployment of those weapons in its territory as their state policy, though nominally.
Now that the moves of the forces hostile to the DPRK have reached their extreme phase, the DPRK is left with no other option but to bolster its nuclear deterrent for self-defence.
The U.S. and Japan had better stop at once such reckless moves, well aware that they can never evade the responsibility for having strained the military and political situation on the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Northeast Asia and created new difficulties in the way of denuclearizing the peninsula with their undisguised nuclear arms build-up.
