DPRK Anniversaries to Be Commemorated in Australia

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- The Australian preparatory committee for commemorating the Day of the Sun and Feb. 16 was inaugurated in Brisbane on Feb. 1. The co-chairman of the Oceanic Solidarity Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.
    The preparatory committee set a commemoration period from Feb. 1 to Apr. 20 and decided to organize political and cultural events including meeting, film show, photo exhibition and art exhibition in the period.
    It also decided to issue an information bulletin for introducing the brilliant revolutionary history of the great persons of Mt. Paektu and their undying exploits and conduct a campaign for supporting the Korean people in their struggle to build a great prosperous powerful nation and achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea.

February Holiday Marked in Different Countries

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- A film show was held by the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK, a film show and a photo exhibition by a Singaporean shipping company, a lecture by the Secretariat of the National Movement of Uganda and round-table talks by the Kampala City Committee of the National Movement of Uganda in the period from Jan. 24 to 27 on the occasion of the February holiday. Korean films including "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il Pays Official Visit to the Russian Federation" were screened at film shows.
    The secretary general of the Russian Association said that leader Kim Jong Il paid an official visit to Russia and adopted the Russia-DPRK Moscow Declaration with President Putin, adding that this marked a landmark event in the development of the relations between the two countries.
    He expressed the will of his association to make a positive contribution to developing the friendly relations between the two countries in the future, too. The participants of the round-table talks held by the Kampala City Committee of the National Movement of Uganda stressed that Korean-style socialism under which the warm love of Kim Jong Il for the people is combined with their resolution to repay it with loyalty is sure to triumph.

Removal of Concrete Wall Demanded in Bulgaria

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- The Bulgarian Communists Union sent an open letter to the chief executive of south Korea on Jan. 31 demanding the removal of the concrete wall. The letter recalled that the Koreans have undergone the pain resulting from the division caused by foreign forces and the protracted efforts made by the DPRK to hasten the reunification of Korea resulted in the adoption of the June 15 joint declaration which marked the beginning of detente between the north and south. Expressing the belief that the relations between the north and the south would improve, the letter strongly demanded the south Korean authorities pull down at once the concrete wall built to block the reunification of Korea.
    The letter reiterated the will of the union to raise higher the voices demanding the removal of the concrete wall.

S. Korean Authorities' Deceptive Trick over FTA Negotiations under Fire

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- Farmers' and civic and social organizations in south Korea came out against the "government" authorities' deceptive trick over the negotiations for the south Korea-U.S. FTA on Feb. 2, according to the south Korean KBS. That day the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade held an "open hearing" for the purpose of calming down the farmers' resistance in the run-up to the negotiations slated to take place on Feb. 3 and deployed many agents to bar members of the above-said organizations from attending it.
    The members, however, forced their ways into the venue of the hearing and staged a protest demanding a stop to the negotiations.
    Their stubborn action scuttled the "open hearing".
    But the ministry asserted that it heard sufficient opinions from farmers at the hearing, adding it would inform the Meeting of Ministers Concerning External Economic Relations slated for that afternoon of them and go ahead with the negotiations with the U.S. as planned.
    Infuriated by this, the organizations held a press conference at which they blasted the deceptive trick of the ministry.

Negotiations for S. Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement under Fire

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- The Preparatory Committee for the "Peasants Federation for Recovering Agriculture" of south Korea reportedly made public a statement on Feb. 2 to oppose negotiations for concluding a "free trade agreement" between south Korea and the U.S. The statement said that peasants' organizations can never allow the negotiations the government authorities try to hold in a bid to conclude the agreement with the U.S. The conclusion of the agreement is little short of sentencing peasants to death, the statement noted, accusing the authorities of trying to have the negotiations unilaterally in defiance of the opinion of the peasants who will be harmed by it. The authorities should cancel the negotiations and take fundamental measures for preserving agriculture, the statement said, and went on:
    If the authorities push forward the unilateral negotiations, turning away their face from the demand of peasants, they would face social resistance. Peasants' organizations will wage a powerful struggle against the government in solidarity with all civic and social organizations.

More Dynamic Struggle for Defence of Socialism Called for

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- No people in the world value socialism and devotedly defend it as the people of the DPRK and it is the only country on our planet where socialism and people are linked with the same destiny. Rodong Sinmun Monday says this in an editorial. It continues: Socialism of Korean style was chosen and built by the popular masses themselves in conformity with the actual conditions of the country. It is socialism which the popular masses have become the master of everything and everything serves them. The source of the invincibility and vitality of socialism lies in the popular masses' undisputed support and trust in it and their dedication to it.
    The Korean people consider socialism dearer than their lives. This revolutionary spirit has grown stronger in the course of their protracted and arduous struggle. The Korean people have covered a really rugged path to build socialism. But their faith in socialism has never shaken in face of any trend and tendency of the times. They have kept to the road of socialism despite manifold difficulties and ordeals. The defence of socialism would mean its victory but the abandonment of it would lead to death. This is the voice of faith that can be heard from the Korean people who regard socialism as their life and soul.
    The above-said spirit will always remain noble for the Korean people who have to wage an arduous struggle.
    The Korean people's unshakable faith and revolutionary spirit of regarding socialism as their life and soul serve as a most powerful mental weapon for smashing the U.S. imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK and a source of the energy to bring about a fresh upswing in the building of a great prosperous powerful nation. Underlying the strong patriotic enthusiasm of the Korean people to make the country richer and more prosperous and demonstrate its might to the whole world is their firm faith that Korean style socialism is best. The editorial calls on all the people to deepen their faith in socialism and hold higher the banner of socialism of Juche in order to meet the increasing challenges of the imperialists, deal resolute retaliatory blows at their moves and continue to give full play to the spirit displayed in the period of "the Arduous March".

Papers Comment on Fascist Plot Disclosed in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- It was recently disclosed in south Korea that the "East Berlin case" during the Park Chung Hee military fascist dictatorship was a sheer fabrication. In this regard Rodong Sinmun Monday runs a signed commentary, which says: This brings to light the truth behind the monstrous crimes of the predecessors of the Grand National Party who stamped out justice and patriotism and punished or killed innocent people in a bid to keep the heinous one-man fascist dictatorial system in south Korea.
    In 1967 the then "Central Intelligence Agency" under the Park Chung Hee fascist regime made public the "East Berlin case" that stunned the world, alleging that more than 190 artistes, professors and doctors including Yun I Sang had conducted the operations for communizing south Korea with East Berlin as their stronghold. More than 30 overseas Koreans related to the big spy case were forcibly taken away to south Korea and harshly tortured. And others related to the case underwent brutal punishment beyond human imagination.
    The gentries of the GNP are working hard to cover up the past crimes. In order to completely liquidate the crime-woven past characterized by flunkeyism and treachery, fascist dictatorship, anti-DPRK plots and the confrontation with the fellow countrymen and redress the wrong history in south Korea, the GNP, a group of traitors, should be punished, to begin with, for desperately checking the movement to set right the history. Minju Joson Sunday in a commentary says that the gentries of the GNP should apologize to the whole Korean nation for the crimes committed by their predecessors.

Gift to Kim Jong Il from Indonesian President

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il was presented with a gift by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The gift was handed to Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, today by Nana Sutresna, special envoy of the Indonesian president who is political counselor to the president, on a visit to the DPRK.

Preparatory Work for Kimjongilia Festival at Full Swing

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- The preparatory work for the 10th Kimjongilia Festival to be held on the occasion of the February holiday, the birthday of leader Kim Jong Il, is going on with a swing in different parts of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Ministry of the People's Armed Forces, the Secretariat of the Cabinet, the State Academy of Sciences and other ministries and national institutions, which had been highly appreciated at the previous festivals, are dynamically pushing ahead with the preparatory work for the festival.
    Kimjongilias begin to open flowers at Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia greenhouses built in Pyongyang, North Hamgyong and other provinces, cities and counties throughout the country under the special concern and the expectation of the people. Servicepersons and working people across the country are doing their best to cultivate the flower plants by regulating temperature, light and humidity in a scientific way even in the biting cold weather.
    Ri Yong Je, a department director of the Korean Kimilsungia-Kimjongilia Committee, told KCNA that the scale and the number of participants of the festival have increased year after year since the first Kimjongilia exhibition was held in Juche 86 (1997). The number of applicants at present, he went on, is more than that of the previous festival and it is expected that the number of flower plants to be displayed will grow by thousands.
    The festival will be attended by overseas Koreans and foreigners. The upcoming festival will be more conspicuous in the ever-deepening interest of the people at home and abroad in the immortal flower Kimjongilia.

Koguryo-Related Books Published

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- The Publishing House of Social Science of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has published "Issues Related to Koguryo History" and "Castles of Koguryo", books on Koguryo which existed as a powerful state in the East for nearly a thousand years. The book "Issues Related to Koguryo History" has a prologue, an epilogue and eight chapters including "Building of Koguryo, World of Kings", "Course of Territorial Annexation and Integration by Koguryo", "Feudal Social, Political and Military Systems of Koguryo and Its Major Political Events" and "External Relationship, Independent Foreign Policy of Koguryo".
    It deals with the territory, national power, relationship between Koguryo and neighboring countries, social system and other major issues related to Koguryo that had been distorted, fabricated and dwarfed by internal and external feudal historians and reptile historians of the Japanese imperialists and that have been clarified and corrected by the historical academy of Korea since the liberation of the country. The book "Castles of Koguryo" contains a prologue, an appendix and six chapters including "Distribution of Castles of Koguryo", "Castle Defense System of Koguryo", "Characteristics of Koguryo Castles" and "Influence of Castle Architecture of Koguryo Exerted on Surrounding Countries".
    It says the prosperity of Koguryo was firmly guaranteed by the high degree of patriotism of the Koguryo people who regarded the national defence as the most sacred duty and by the castles that were the products of their distinguished creative power. Meanwhile, the publishing house brought out "Collection of Scientific Papers on Koguryo History" (two volumes).

New High Yielding Oil-bearing Trees Developed

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- The Economic Forest Institute under the Academy of Forestry of the Ministry of Land and Environment Conservation has developed new species of short walnut and Xanthoceras sorbifolia. They are high-yield trees of economic value. The newly developed walnut tree bears fruits even one year after its plantation. Its yield is seven times that of spontaneous walnut tree and 1.4 times that of previously cultivated walnut tree.
    It is expected to bear fruits for 40-50 years. Its peak years are between 15 and 20 years following its plantation.
    The weight and kernel per a new walnut are heavier and its nut is thinner than those of other species of walnuts. It, also convenient to tend, stands well cold and diseases.
    The new species of Xanthoceras sorbifolia will bear fruits for a hundred years from two or three years after its seed was sown.
    A ten-year-old tree bears 80-100 burs, each of which has about 18 chestnuts. The kernel contains large amounts of oil and protein and nearly ten percent of starch. And the weight of kernel per chestnut is 4 percent and the amount of its oil 8-10 percent higher than those of the spontaneous chestnuts.
    The per hectare yield of the new species of Xanthoceras sorbifolia is five or seven times that of spontaneous ones.
    Its oil contains linolic acid, oleic acid, vitamin E, etc.
    Kim Jong Su, head of the institute, told KCNA the institute is directing efforts to nursing their saplings in close cooperation with a relevant department of the Ministry of Agriculture in order to transplant the new species of oil-bearing trees in different places of the country in an extensive way.

S. Korean Authorities Urged to Stop All Joint Military Exercises with Outsiders

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities should unconditionally stop all the joint military exercises with outside forces which would bring dark clouds of a nuclear war if they truly desire progress in the north-south relations and peace on the Korean Peninsula. A spokesman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland demanded this in an answer given to a question raised by KCNA today blasting the south Korean authorities for contemplating staging with the U.S. joint military exercises under the simulated conditions of invasion against the north this year, too. He said:
    On Feb. 1 the south Korean minister of Defence at a regular press conference blustered that all the exercises under this year's plan as well as the south Korea-U.S. joint military exercises due in upcoming March would be staged as scheduled. This announcement of the plan to stage the joint military exercises with the U.S. this year too, came at a time when the north-south military authorities' talks that had been arranged with much effort are just around the corner. This is a very provocative act of negating the military talks themselves and pushing the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the brink of war pursuant to the U.S. moves to start a war of aggression against the north.
    The south Korean authorities staged with the U.S. extremely dangerous war exercises against the north in the era of the Cold War and now they intend to go ahead with those exercises even in the June 15 era of independent reunification. This is a challenge to the desire of the nation and the trend of the times and an action against peace and reunification as it is aimed at bedeviling the inter-Korean relations and scrapping the June 15 joint declaration.
    The south Korean military authorities called for north-south military talks before negotiators of the north, talking about "building military confidence" and "detente." But they have disclosed their intention to go on with joint military exercises against the fellow countrymen with the outsiders behind the scene. This is an intolerable mockery of the dialogue partner and an artifice to fool the public opinion. The south Korean military authorities should clarify whether they stand for reconciliation and cooperation or for confrontation and war.

Greetings to PM of Grenada

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- Pak Pong Ju, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, sent a message of greetings to Keith Mitchell, prime minister of Grenada, on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of its independence. The message expressed the expectation and belief that the bilateral friendly ties would develop on good terms in the future, too.

Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Unit

     Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, inspected KPA Unit 1687. After acquainting himself with the unit's performance of duty, he watched servicepersons' training. He set forth tasks to be undertaken to further increase the unit's combat capability, expressing satisfaction over the fact that all the commanding officers and soldiers have been trained as a-match-for-a-hundred fighters who have fully acquired the WPK's Juche-oriented military thoughts and war methods and matchless wisdom and courage. Going round an operation command room and an armory, he learned about how they are performing their guard duties and keeping and handling their weapons. He praised the commanding officers and soldiers of the unit for carrying out their guard duties in a responsible manner, keeping themselves in a strained and mobilized posture, and prizing and handling weapons of the revolution like the apples of their eyes. Looking round an educational room and a video recording and wire broadcasting room and other entertainment and educational facilities, he underscored the need to do the political work the way the anti-Japanese guerillas did to intensify the ideological education gripping the hearts of the servicepersons.
    He took deep care of the soldiers' living, making the rounds of a bedroom, a mess hall, a kitchen, a wash-cum-bath house, a non-staple food store and other supply service facilities.
    Seeing the stores stacked with materials for preparing subsidiary food which had been harvested from sideline fields, he noted that peculiar scenery one can witness at any unit is a stirring reality which can be brought about only by the KPA which has remained loyal to the Party at the cost of blood and sweat and made contributions to the prosperity and development of the country with ardent patriotism. He called on all members of the society to wage an uninterrupted drive to learn from the revolutionary soldier spirit and thus bring about fresh changes in all fields.     　Primeramente el llego a la Fabrica de Elaboracion de Madera de Kanggye donde recorrio el taller de elaboracion, el de acabado y otros procesos de produccion para enterarse del estado de equipamiento y produccion.
    　Se mostro muy satisfecho de que los obreros de la planta, con el sentimiento de servicio abnegado al pueblo, producen y suministran roperos, armarios para edredones y libros y otros muebles comodos y elegantes y evaluo altamente sus exitos. 　Dijo que al establecer el sistema de produccion para usar general y racionalmente la madera, a traves del movimiento masivo de invencion tecnica, la fabrica asegura estrictamente el principio de sacar ganancia real en la administracion empresarial y anadio que la experiencia de esta planta prueba practicamente que la ciencia y la tecnica son precisamente la produccion y viceversa.

Verdadera faceta del "incidente de Berlin Este"

    　Pyongyang, 6 de febrero (ATCC) -- El diario Rodong Sinmun publico en su edicion del dia 6 un comentario individual en relacion con que se revelo lo fraudulento del "incidente de Berlin Este", flotado durante el regimen del dictador fascista militar Pak Jung Hui. De esta forma, quedo desenmascarado el hecho de que en el pasado, los antecesores del "partido Hannara" del Sur de Corea exterminaron la justicia y el patriotismo, mataron y ejecutaron salvajemente a los habitantes inocentes para mantener ese barbaro sistema de la dictadura fascista unipersonal.
    En 1967, cuando gobernaba Pak, la "Agencia Central de Inteligencia" surcoreana produjo un gran revuelo en el mundo al publicar el "incidente de Berlin Este", segun el cual mas de 190 artistas, profesores y doctores, inclusive el celebre musico Yun I Sang, trabajaban en una "operacion para convertir el Sur de Corea de manera comunista" teniendo esta urbe alemana como base central.
    Involucradas en este "gran incidente de espias", mas de 30 personas residentes en el extranjero fueron arrestadas y trasladadas forzadamente al Sur de Corea y sufrieron torturas mas salvajes. Otros relacionados tambien fueron condenados a penas inimaginablemente barbaras.
    Sin embargo, los compinches del "partido Hannara" maniobran desesperadamente para encubrir esos crimenes del pasado.
    Para corregir la historia distorsionada y acabar en el Sur de Corea con el pasado criminal, signado del servilismo a grandes potencias, la dictadura fascista, el complot contra la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea y la confrontacion con los coterraneos, hay que castigar primero a esa banda de traidores a la nacion que se opone obstinadamente a ello.
    Por otra parte, el rotativo Minju Joson inserto en su numero del dia 5 un comentario subrayando que la bandada del "partido Hannara" debe arrodillarse ante la nacion para pedir disculpas por esos actos criminales de sus antecesores.

Hay que mantener el principio revolucionario en lucha antiyanqui

    　Pyongyang, 6 de febrero (ATCC) -- La actual situacion internacional demanda que los paises que aprecian su dignidad y soberania se enfrenten resueltamente a las maniobras de invasion de EE.UU. No se debe conceder el principio a los imperialistas norteamericanos ni abrigar ilusion alguna de estos. Asi senala el diario Rodong Sinmun en un articulo individual del dia 5 y continua: En la batalla de confrontacion con los enemigos el retroceso y la sumision traen la muerte.
    No se debe mostrar la debilidad sino hacer frente resuelta a los yanquis tan despoticos. Cuando concedamos, se tornara mas arrogante EE.UU. Responder a la fuerza con la fuerza y al arrogante ejercicio de las fuerzas armadas con el despiadado castigo es el camino para defender el destino del pais y la nacion. Si uno esta preso del terror a los yanquis, perdera su espiritu de lucha contra estos. El pavor a los yanquis trae la sumision y obediencia a estos. Si uno teme a EE.UU., no podra exponer su criterio ni hacer las cosas que le corresponden perdiendo la independencia y el caracter Juche sino escudrinara la intencion de esta superpotencia para halagar el gusto de esta.
    EE.UU. no es jamas existencia temerosa.
    Para hacer frente a los imperialistas yanquis hay que cultivar la fuerza militar. Hay que fortalecer la fuerza de autodefensa nacional para luchar resueltamente contra este imperio. Hay que responder con las fuerzas armadas a las fuerzas armadas. La victoria pertenece al pais que lucha intransigentemente contra los enemigos. Lo confirma la historia de lucha de nuestro pueblo. La importante leccion que saco el pueblo coreano de la confrontacion con los yanquis es que puede triunfar solo al luchar resueltamente con la actitud sobredura sin retroceso ni concesion del principio.
    El ejercito y el pueblo de Corea tienen la firme decision e invariable voluntad de responder con la sobredureza a las maniobras intransigentes norteamericanas de aplastamiento a Corea para lograr la victoria final.
