Dismantlement of "UN Forces Command" Demanded

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- A DPRK delegate, addressing the meeting of the Special Committee on UN Peace-keeping Operations on February 28, said that if the UN peace-keeping operations are to contribute to ensuring world peace and security in conformity with its mission and purpose it is necessary to strictly observe the principle of respecting sovereignty in all activities. He referred to the human rights abuses including sexual abuses of civilians by members of the peace-keeping forces.
    He attributed the continuation of such human rights abuses in the new century to Japan's refusal to eradicate the consequences of the crimes related to the sexual slavery committed by the Japanese army in the last century. He underscored the need to take strong measures to punish those members of the peace-keeping forces who perpetrated crimes recently and call into question the crimes committed by Japan in the past and their consequences and force it to fully settle them.
    He noted that it is another pressing task to put an end to the acts of individual countries to misuse the UN military operations and activities for achieving their sinister political and military purposes with the UN reform as a momentum. The dismantlement of the "UN Forces Command" which has illegally existed in south Korea for scores of years should be the primary target of the UN reform, he noted, and continued:
    The "UN Forces Command" in south Korea is a typical example of the abuse of the name of the UN as it not only threw an obstacle to the settlement of the Korean issue but damaged the trust in the UN.
    The 30th UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the dismantlement of the "UN Forces Command," recognizing that it is unnecessary for it to exist in south Korea any longer.
    Nevertheless, the U.S. has insisted on its continued existence. This is aimed to continue abusing the name of the UN for maintaining its military initiative in the Korean Peninsula and other parts of Northeast Asia.
    We hold that the UN take the UN reform as an occasion of totally eradicating the aftermath of the abuse of its name for sinister political and military purposes in the last century.
    The DPRK delegation re-clarifies its stance that the UN should observe the principle of respecting sovereignty for the successful UN peace-keeping operations and disallow individual countries to abuse the name of the UN for their ulterior purposes.

Cuban Diplomats Visit Museum

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- Ruben Perez Valdes, Cuban ambassador to the DPRK, and staff members of the embassy visited the museum of gifts of the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces on Wednesday on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the visit to the DPRK by Fidel Castro Ruz, the supreme leader of the Cuban revolution. They looked round with keen interest the gifts reflecting the unbounded reverence of the servicepersons of the Korean People's Army for President Kim Il Sung who founded the revolutionary armed forces of Juche type and developed it to be invincible ranks of the vanguard and Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il who has exalted the dignity and might of Juche Korea with his unique Songun revolutionary leadership. The ambassador said that their visit to the museum provided them with an opportunity to know well about the ardent desire of the KPA servicepersons to convey the undying revolutionary exploits performed by the three generals of Mt. Paektu to posterity.

Nat’l Meeting of Scientists and Technicians in Field of Physical Culture and Sports

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- A national meeting of scientists and technicians in the field of physical culture and sports was held at the Central Workers' Hall on Wednesday. Mun Jae Dok, chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission, delivered a report which was followed by speeches.
    The reporter and speakers said that the meeting will mark an important occasion in developing the sports techniques of the country on to a higher level at an early date by encouraging the scientists and technicians in the field of physical culture and sports to bring about a new turn in scientification of sports with infinite loyalty to leader Kim Jong Il.
    They noted that Kim Jong Il set forth the unique idea of developing sports science and technique in Korean way with Juche-oriented stand and gave a concrete exposition of the issue of working out a prospective plan for the development of sports science and technique and creating sports techniques and game tactics to suit the physical characteristics of the Koreans and the issue of putting the selection, training and exercise of sportsmen and sportswomen on a scientific basis.
    They referred to the successes in scientification of sports including the development of techniques in sports events and the improvement of the method of educating and training sportsmen and sportswomen.
    They called upon the Academy of Sports Science and research institutes to make a deep-going scientific study to create means and methods of educating and training sportsmen and sportswomen and game tactics to suit the physical characteristics of the Koreans true to the intention of Kim Jong Il to put sports on a scientific basis.

Heightened Anti-U.S. Class Awareness Called for

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- What is essential for strengthening the socialist class position at present is to enhance the anti-U.S. class awareness, says Rodong Sinmun Thursday in a signed article. To strengthen the socialist class position with transparent anti-U.S. class awareness provides a sure guarantee for the people to fight with unshakable faith in the sure victory of socialism and consistently maintain the revolutionary principle in socialist construction, the article notes, and goes on:
    This also guarantees the steady progress of socialist construction despite the U.S. imperialists’ persistent moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK.
    The U.S. imperialists have recently resorted to all sorts of base moves to destabilize the DPRK. They have further intensified sanctions and blockade against it than ever before in a bid to make it vacillate before difficulties and yield to them. As history and reality prove, neither concession nor compromise should be allowed in the confrontation with the U.S. imperialists as they precisely mean death. The Korean people have keenly realized this in their more than half a century-long confrontation with the U.S. imperialists. The army and people of the DPRK, closely rallied around the party and the leader, have consolidated the single-minded unity as firm as a rock and devotedly protected their socialist life from the vicious moves of the enemies to destabilize the country.
    They have advancedsocialist construction, responding to the U.S. imperialists' anti-revolutionary offensive with a revolutionary one and their anti-socialist campaign with a movement for a great surge in the socialist construction. The fiercer the confrontation with the U.S. gets, the fuller play will be given to their fighting tradition and revolutionary spirit.

U.S. Criminal Korea Policy Is Bound to Go Bankrupt

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- Today all the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad desire peace of the country and its independent reunification and they are turning out as one man for this. But the U.S. imperialists are opposing this with reckless military provocations. Rodong Sinmun says this in a signed article Thursday. 　Declaring that the Korea policy of the U.S. imperialists against the Korean nation and its reunification, however, is bound to go bankrupt, the author of the article continues:
    A grave hurdle has been thrown into the way of the movement of the Korean nation for independent reunification by the U.S. imperialists' harebrained acts. They are, indeed, the main obstacle obstructing the reconciliation and unity of the Korean nation and blocking the reunification of the country. Their criminal maneuvers against the reunification of Korea are a brigandish act of trampling upon the right of the Korean nation to independence.
    No one has ever given the U.S. the right to interfere in and encroach upon the movement for national reunification, an exercise of the right to independence by the Korean nation. The U.S. imperialists, however, are persistently resorting to anti-reunification moves for a permanent division of the Korean nation, pursuing their dominationist Korea policy all along.
    Their design to keep Korea divided permanently and establish their domination over the whole of Korea stands no chance of realization.
    Today the Korean nation is living in the June 15 era of reunification. The idea of "By our nation itself" has become a nationwide idea and the inter-Korean relations marred by distrust and confrontation have turned into relations of reconciliation and cooperation based on national independence and cooperation, bringing eventual achievements in the reunification movement.
    No aggressive forces can ever block the path of the movement of the Korean nation for independent reunification dynamically advancing under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration which represents the idea of "By our nation itself". All the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad will give full play to ardent patriotic enthusiasm to resolutely shatter the evermore heinous U.S. moves for a new war and against Korean reunification and push forward with redoubled vigor the cause of national reunification which has entered into a new phase.

Kim Yong Nam Receives Credentials from Bulgarian Ambassador

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, received credentials from Angel Orbetsov, Bulgarian ambassador e.p. to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Thursday. Kung Sok Ung, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, and staff members of the Bulgarian embassy were on hand.
    After receiving the credentials, Kim Yong Nam had a talk with the ambassador.

Foreign Guests Pay Homage to Kim Il Sung

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- Foreign guests including railway delegations of Russia, Mongolia, China, Vietnam and Kazakhstan participating in the meeting of Countries of the Asian Region of the Railway Cooperation Organization Thursday visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace to pay homage to President Kim Il Sung. They entered the hall where the President lies in state. They made bows in humble reverence to him who dedicated his whole life to the world peace and the cause of independence and development of friendly relations among countries. Then they looked round with deep interest orders and medals of the DPRK and different countries conferred upon the President and certificates of honorary titles he received from foreign countries, the mourners' hall and a train coach and a car he used during his on-the-spot guidance and foreign tour.
    They made entries in the visitor's book.

World-class Woman Gymnasts

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- The International Gymnastics Federation decided to confer the honorary title "World-class Gymnast" on female gymnasts Kang Yun Mi of the Pyongyang City Sports Group and Pyon Kwang Sun of the Kigwancha Sports Group of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Kang and Pyon were highly appreciated by experts and spectators for their high standard of technical movements displayed at the 37th World Gymnastics Championships, the Athens Olympic Games and other international gymnastics contests.
    According to the decision, they were recently awarded the badges of the title.

Solidarity Struggle for Solution of Education Issue Called for in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- Fifty three general university student councils, 18 college student councils and the student committee of the Democratic Workers' Party of south Korea reportedly formed the Nationwide Measure Committee for Education of Students in Seoul on Mar. 4 and called for a solidarity struggle for the settlement of the education issue. The speakers at the inaugural ceremony said that the students can get rid of pain only when the "government" makes a switchover in its unjust education policy, declaring that the committee would make this year the year of a grand reform of education with the committee playing the pivotal role.
    An appeal on the formation of the committee and solidarity struggle for education was read out at the ceremony, which called for the "government's" fundamental measure to solve the issue of registration fee hike at universities.
    It also called on the students to wage a solidarity struggle against the "government's" measure for raising registration fees and for the withdrawal of the policy of commercializing education and take the lead in realizing new education and building new universities.
    At the end of the ceremony the participants staged a protest demanding the "government" solve the registration fee issue at universities.
    Meanwhile, the National Professors Union, the National Teachers Union and the National University Trade Union issued a joint statement in support of the formation of the committee.

Kim Il, True Revolutionary

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- Kim Il, an anti-Japanese war veteran, is one of the revolutionary forerunners who devoted themselves to the heroic struggle for the sovereignty, independence and socialist construction of Korea. He was born into a poor peasant family in Orang County, North Hamgyong Province, in March 1910. Under the guidance of President Kim Il Sung, he took part in the revolution in the early 1930s and made a contribution to winning the historic victory in the anti-Japanese war as a regiment political commissar of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army.
    He worked at responsible positions of the Party and state including vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, first vice-premier of the Cabinet, premier of the Administration Council and first vice-president of the DPRK, thus rendering a distinguished service to the strengthening and development of the Party, the building of the revolutionary armed forces and the socialist economic construction. He, a veteran of the Korean revolution and a renowned activist of the Party and the state, set a living example as a true revolutionary who upheld the President with sincerity and remained boundlessly faithful to the Party and the revolution through his whole life.
    He held in high esteem the President as the sun of the revolution and the savior of the destiny of the nation from the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle. Though he was a commanding officer of the guerrilla army, he personally carried the reserve food for the President on his back all the time, saying that even if they all died, the Korean revolution would surely emerge victorious as long as the President was healthy.
    In the postwar rehabilitation and construction period, he waged an uncompromised and principled struggle against the factionists to firmly defend the idea and lines put forward by the President. And in his last years, he energetically guided the economic affairs, visiting socialist construction sites across the country with a stick in his hand. He, together with other anti-Japanese revolutionary veterans, greatly contributed to successfully solving the issue of carrying forward revolutionary cause. Kim Il passed away on March 9, Juche 73 (1984).
    His remains lie at the Mt. Taesong Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery.

Giant Progress in Modernization of Communications

     Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il visited the Pyongyang Earth Station on March 4, Juche 75 (1986). Over the last two decades, many successes have been made in the modernization of communications. The modernization of the station makes it possible to fully ensure reception and transmission of telegraph, telephone and telex with other countries. And facilities including switchboards and communication method based on high-technology have been introduced and their operation computerized so as to remarkably boost the speed and capacity of communications.
    The establishment of TV relay system by satellites also makes it possible to telecast more events and facts that are taking place at home and abroad. The radio capacity has been improved and radio channels have been diversified. During the "Arduous March" and forced march, the difficult years for the country, the optical fiber cable has found its way to provinces, cities, counties and rural villages. Meanwhile, cars and other transport means were provided to post service and latest scientific and technological successes fully introduced to strengthen the material and technical foundation in the field.
    The modernization of communications is promoted this year, too, as required by the Songun and IT era.

    Asi senala el diario Rodong Sinmun en un articulo individual publicado en su edicion del dia 9 y prosigue: A causa de tales insensatas maniobras de los yanquis, se crean ahora grandes obstaculos ante el movimiento de la nacion coreana por la reunificacion independiente del pais.
    Por lo tanto, ellos devienen el escollo principal que impide la reconciliacion y la unidad de la nacion coreana y la reunificacion de la patria.
    Nadie concedio a EE.UU. el derecho a intervenir y obstruir el movimiento por la reunificacion, que pertenece a los derechos soberanos de la nacion coreana. Los imperialistas gringos nunca podran salir con la suya por mucho que persigan su politica dominacionista a Corea y se obstinen en sus maniobras para perpetuar la division de esta e implantar el dominio sobre toda la extension coreana. Con su fervorosa pasion patriotica, todos los coreanos del Norte, el Sur y en ultramar frustraran tajantemente las cada dia mas recrudescentes maniobras de los imperialistas yanquis encaminadas a provocar una nueva guerra y bloquear la reunificacion e impulsaran con mas vigor la causa de reunificacion de la patria.
