"Kim Jong Il Biography" Vol. 3 Off Press

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The International Institute of the Juche Idea in Japan published "Kim Jong Il Biography" Vol. 3 which deals with his outstanding personality as a great man and his immortal exploits. It introduces in detail his revolutionary activities in the period from January of Juche 79(1990) to February of Juche 91(2002).
    Printed there are his portrait and a photo of him standing with President Kim Il Sung. It consists of 15 chapters (28-42).
    Chapters from 28 to 32 refer to the facts that in the first half of the 1990s he shattered the anti-socialist moves of the imperialists, firmly defended the socialist cause and further strengthened the People's Army, thus leading to a shining victory the struggle to smash the nuclear racket kicked up by the U.S. imperialists and defend the sovereignty of the country and the nation.
    Chapters from 33 to 40 deal with the revolutionary activities he conducted under the uplifted banner of Songun in the period from July of Juche 83(1994) to the end of the 1990s.
    They recall the facts that he has significantly increased the defence capability through his ceaseless long journey for Songun leadership to cope with the U.S. imperialists' extremely undisguised moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK. Chapter 41 tells how he arranged the historic Pyongyang meeting which led to the adoption and publication of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the opening of an epochal phase of national reunification and how he has developed the movement of Koreans in Japan onto a new higher stage.
    Chapter 42 deals with the facts that he made sure that the 55th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea was celebrated as a grand festival of victors of socialism and that he further augmented the might of the DPRK under the banner of Songun in the period from January of Juche 89(2000) to February of Juche 91(2002).

Special Homepage Opens in Britain

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The British Association for the Study of Songun Policy opened Internet special homepage titled "74th Anniversary of Glorious Korean People's Army" on April 23 on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the KPA. April 25 is a significant day when the KPA was founded, the homepage says, and goes on: The KPA founded by Generalissimo Kim Il Sung has grown to be a steel-like army under his wise guidance.
    The KPA is a revolutionary army which defeated U.S. imperialism in the great Fatherland Liberation War and defended the socialist homeland of Juche as firm as a rock while shattering all the provocative moves of the enemy. Under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il the KPA has grown to be steel-like revolutionary armed forces.
    Supreme Commander of the KPA Kim Jong Il is a great strategist who is wisely leading the KPA, a-match-for-a hundred revolutionary armed forces, by carrying forward the revolutionary cause of Juche started by President Kim Il Sung.

U.S. Neo-liberalism Rebuffed in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The participants in a meeting of youth and students held in Seoul on April 30 to vow to intensify their actions voiced opposition to neo-liberalism imposed upon south Korea by the United States, asserting that the vital rights of the workers in this land are threatened by the U.S. moves for neo-liberalism, the south Korean MBC reported. They demanded the U.S. and the south Korean authorities stop at once the negotiations for the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. "Free Trade Agreement" and withdraw their plan for the expansion of the U.S. military base. At the end of the meeting its participants burned the stars and stripes, while staging a demonstration.

Rodong Sinmun on Danger of U.S.-Japan Joint War Games

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The Asian people should pay attention to the ill-boding military moves of the U.S. and Japan and heighten vigilance against them, warns Rodong Sinmun in an article Friday. Disclosing the serious danger of the U.S.-Japan joint war rehearsals staged in recent years in their scale, offensive nature and criminal purpose, the author of the article says:
    Their dangerous nature lies in that they were all drills for the use of nuclear weapons and were targeted against the Korean Peninsula.
    The Japanese reactionaries are openly blustering that the Japan-U.S. joint military exercises are to cope with the "emergency on the Korean Peninsula." These exercises, without exception, have been conducted in areas close to the peninsula. The Japanese reactionaries have staged them with the U.S. navy by mobilizing the maritime "Self-defence Force" in the East Sea of Korea. This is a dangerous step in Japan's drive for a comeback to Korea.
    Holding an ever bigger share in the U.S.-Japan joint military exercises are drills for coping with the "emergency on the Korean Peninsula". The Japanese reactionaries set up a drill ground in Hokkaido which is similar to Korea in climatic and topographical conditions and let their ground SDF to stage joint war games frequently with U.S. troops. On the other hand, the SDF are intensifying mountain and nighttime warfare drills with the U.S. forces. It is needless to say that they are, to all intents and purposes, a test war and a preliminary war to invade the DPRK. The danger of the exercises is all the greater because they followed hard on the heels of the U.S. publication of a "national security strategy report" in which it declared again the preemptive attack strategy as its national policy. In the joint military exercises against the DPRK, the U.S. and Japan have disclosed their sinister intention to mount a preemptive strike on the DPRK.
    The U.S. seeks to provoke a new war on the Korean Peninsula and spread it to other regions while Japan intends to open up a wide avenue through the peninsula for the reinvasion of Asia.
    Their outcries over "threat" from someone are sophism to justify their war moves. The reckless war moves of the U.S. imperialists and the Japanese reactionaries are rendering the situation on the Korean peninsula and its surroundings tenser and pose a grave threat to peace and security in Asia.

North Side Sends Telephone Message to South Side

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The head of the north side to the inter-Korean ministerial talks Friday sent a telephone message to the chief delegate of the south side proposing a working contact between officials concerned of the two sides to discuss the issue of Pyongyang visit by Kim Dae Jung, former president of south Korea. The message said that the north side suggested having the above-said contact at Mt. Kumgang resort on May 16 and it would send to the contact four officials headed by Ri Jong Hyok, vice-chairman of the Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee.

Powerful Spurs to Revolutionary Cause of Juche Called for

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang-based papers Friday in editorials dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland (ARF) call for dynamically advancing the revolutionary cause of Juche, guided by the idea of single-minded unity, which represents a symbol of Songun Korea and its dignity and future. The seven decades since the foundation of the ARF on May 5, Juche 25 (1936) represent a glorious history in which the single-minded unity of the Korean revolutionary ranks around the one central figure has been steadily cemented on the basis of the monolithic idea and a proud course in which they have brought about world-startling miracles and changes in the efforts to accomplish the socialist cause with the might of unity, Rodong Sinmun says, and goes on:
    The tradition of single-minded unity, the tradition of the great national unity provided in the crucible of the anti-Japanese war has been successfully carried forward by leader Kim Jong Il and its might has remarkably grown strong under his leadership. The leader, the Party, the army and the people in the DPRK are single-mindedly united to form a community linked with the same destiny.
    The whole Party has been modeled on the Songun idea, the entire army shares the same idea, intention and destiny with the supreme commander and the army and the people achieved the perfect unity in idea and in the fighting traits on the basis of the spirit of devotedly defending the leader. This is the true picture of the single-minded unity in the DPRK.
    The tradition of unity established in the early period of the revolution has been confidently carried forward and has fully displayed its vitality generation after generation despite all sorts of ordeals and tests of history. This is the stirring reality that can be seen only in the DPRK led by the great leader.
    The DPRK army and people will successfully accomplish the cause of building a great prosperous powerful nation of Juche, singled-mindedly united around the headquarters of the revolution headed by Kim Jong Il just as all the Korean people resolutely turned out in the anti-Japanese national united front movement to defeat the Japanese imperialist aggressors and achieve the historic cause of the country's liberation under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung. It is the oath taken by the DPRK army and people with faith on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the ARF. It is a firm guarantee for the prosperity of the country and the victorious advance of the cause of Juche to firmly unite around Kim Jong Il. All the people should fully display the might of our single-minded unity in the general march of Songun revolution just as all the Koreans fought in close unity during the anti-Japanese war. S. Korean Military Authorities' Move under Fire

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) reportedly issued a statement on April 29 denouncing the south Korean military authorities for their move to use forces for ensuring the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek. The statement accused the Defence Ministry of contemplating the use of forces for forcibly evacuating inhabitants and facilities in the area of Phyongthaek after designating the area of Taechu-ri and Todu-ri of Phaengsong Town, Phyongthaek City of Kyonggi Province, as a "zone for the protection of military facilities." The statement went on;
    The Defence Ministry let helicopters undergo a drill of landing on fields and conduct reconnaissance for choosing sites for posts and wire entanglements of the U.S. military base, etc., creating a terror-ridden atmosphere reminiscent of Kwangju drenched in blood in May of 1980.
    Drawing attention to the fact that the ministry is set to crack down upon the fair-minded civilians desirous of tilling land in their hometown even by using forces for ensuring the expansion of the U.S. military base, the statement queries: Is there any difference from the monstrous massacre of Kwangju citizens committed by the fascist junta calling them "mobs"?
    We cannot repress towering indignation at the ministry in its desperate bid to serve the interests of the U.S.
    Hanchongryon will frustrate the ministry's plan to hurl forces into the area of Phyongthaek, braving any sacrifice and suppression, and use every possible means and method to deter GIs from intruding into even an inch of land there.

Ninth Pyongyang Spring International Commodity Exhibition to Be Held

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The Ninth Pyongyang Spring International Commodity Exhibition will be held in the DPRK from May 15 to 18 under the sponsorship of the Korean International Exhibition Corporation. It will be participated in by more than 200 companies from ten-odd countries and regions including the DPRK, China, Syria, Thailand, Sweden, France, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Taipei of China.
    On display there will be various kinds of steel products, machine tools, poultry equipment, medicines, agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizer, petroleum and chemical goods, electric and electronic goods, foodstuffs, daily necessities and other items.
    During the exhibition companies may have wide-range contacts and trade talks with each other. The Pyongyang international commodity exhibition is held in spring and autumn every year. The first Pyongyang Autumn International Commodity Exhibition was held in October last year.

Fierce Struggle for U.S. Troops Pullout Vowed in S. Korea

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils on April 28 reportedly issued a statement titled "Let's Force U.S. Troops Out of South Korea Inheriting Martyrs' Will." The statement recalls that Ri Jae Ho, chairman of the Committee of Struggle for Peace against War and Nuclear Weapons of Seoul National University, and Kim Se Jin, chairman of the Student Council of the University of Natural Science, set themselves on fire on April 28, 1986 in protest against the U.S. imperialists bent on unleashing a nuclear war in Korea and the military fascist dictatorial "regime" forcing military education upon students.
    Even though 20 years have passed since then, the statement says, the U.S. has not given up the nuclear war design but is putting spurs to war preparations for invading the north, involving the expansion of its military base in Phyongthaek for the purpose of "strategic flexibility" of the U.S. forces present in south Korea. The atmosphere of national reunification produced by the publication of the June 15 joint declaration clearly proves that the north is not "our enemy" and there is no reason for the U.S. forces, the root cause of national division, to stay in south Korea any longer, notes the statement.
    Calling for forcing the U.S. troops out of south Korea and bringing earlier the bright future of the Korean nation as laid down in the June 15 joint declaration, the landmark of national reunification, the statement underlines the need for the federation to stand at the head of the struggle against the U.S. and for the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea, cherishing the anti-U.S. spirit of the martyrs.

Congratulations to Nepalese Prime Minister

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Pak Pong Ju, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, sent a congratulatory message to Girija Prasad Koirala on his appointment as prime minister of the government of the Kingdom of Nepal. It expressed the belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries would continue to favorably develop in the future, too.

     Pyongyang, May 5 (KCNA) -- Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met Guy Spitaels, honorary president of Socialist International and former president of the Belgian Socialist Party (Wallon), and his party and had a friendly talk with them at the Mansudae Assembly Hall Friday. Aviso telefonico del Jefe de parte nortena a conversaciones N-S

    @Pyongyang, 5 de mayo (ATCC) -- El jefe de la parte nortena a las conversaciones a nivel de ministro Norte-Sur de Corea envio el dia 5 al delegado jefe de la parte surena un aviso telefonico de entablar contacto de expertos de ambas partes para consultar el problema de la visita a Pyongyang del ex presidente surcoreano Kim Tae Jung. El aviso propone realizarlo el 16 de mayo en el monte Kumgang y da a conocer que la parte nortena estara presidida por Ri Jong Hyok, vicepresidente del Comite Coreano por la Paz de Asia y el Pacifico (CCPAP) e integrada por tres funcionarios.

Rodong Sinmun revela peligrosidad de maniobras militares EE.UU.-Japon

    @Pyongyang, 5 de mayo (ATCC) -- Los ejercicios militares conjuntos, que EE.UU. y Japon desarrollan en los ultimos anos, entranan gran peligrosidad en su dimension, caracter de ofensiva y objeto criminal. Por tanto, los pueblos asiaticos deben prestar atencion a estos movimientos militares insolitos y estar alertos contra estos. Asi senala el periodico Rodong Sinmun en un articulo individual y continua: Estas maniobras militares suponen el uso de las armas nucleares, particularmente contra la Peninsula Coreana.
    Los reaccionarios japoneses dicen que esos ejercicios militares conjuntos son para hacer frente al "tiempo de emergencia de la Peninsula Coreana". Todos los simulacros EE.UU.-Japon se desarrollan sin excepcion en las zonas perifericas de dicha Peninsula.
    En los ultimos anos los reaccionarios japoneses desarrollaron con frecuencia ejercicios militares de sus fuerzas navales de autodefensa junto con las fuerzas navales norteamericanas en el Mar Este de Corea. Esto constituye un peligroso movimiento en las maniobras de nueva agresion a Corea.
    En particular, en tales maniobras conjuntas se eleva la proporcion de los ejercicios para hacer frente al "tiempo de emergencia" de la Peninsula Coreana. Los reaccionarios japoneses prepararon un campo de entrenamiento en Hokkaido, simular a Corea en las condiciones climaticas y topograficas, donde sus "fuerzas terrestres de autodefensa" frecuentan los ejercicios militares con las unidades norteamericanas.
    Ademas de esto, las "fuerzas de autodefensa" de Japon repiten entrenamientos de batallas en la montana y la nocturna con las unidades norteamericanas. No cabe duda de que estos ejercicios son la guerra de prueba y la previa para agredir a la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea.
    Se agranda la peligrosidad de ejercicios militares conjuntos porque precisamente esos dos paises agresivos los desarrollan en un periodo posterior a la publicacion del "informe de estrategia para la seguridad estatal" en que el Tio Sam volvio a declarar como politica estatal la "estrategia de primer ataque".
    EE.UU. pretende provocar una nueva guerra en la Peninsula Coreana y expandirla a otras regiones y Japon intenta abrir un ancho camino para nueva agresion a Asia partiendo de esta peninsula.
    Los reaccionarios norteamericanos y japoneses hablan mucho de "amenaza" de alguien para justificar sus maniobras belicas.
    Debido a las insensatas maquinaciones belicas de los reaccionarios de ambos paises se torna mas tensa la situacion de la Peninsula Coreana y su contorno, lo cual amenaza la paz y la seguridad de Asia.
