Special Information Bulletin Issued in Italy

     Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The Group of Dialectical Materialists of Italy issued a special information bulletin on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the foundation of the Korean People's Army. The bulletin said that the anniversary of the KPA marks an occasion of inspiring all the progressive people of the world in their struggle against imperialism. It introduced the dynamic struggle against the U.S. moves to stifle the DPRK after the victory in the arduous anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle in Korea. It is the appropriate duty of revolutionaries in Europe and the progressive people aspiring after world peace to positively study and disseminate the Juche idea and the Songun idea, it said, stressing the need to give wide publicity to the experience of the Korean people in the anti-U.S. struggle.

Forcible Evacuation of Residents from Planned Site for Expansion of U.S. Military Base

     Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The south Korean "Ministry of National Defence" and police on May 4 began to forcibly evacuate objects from a planned site for expansion of the U.S. military base despite the unanimous denunciation of public circles, south Korean KBS reported. At least 3,000 military engineers, more than 11,000 policemen of over 100 companies and about 700 gangsters of a team for evacuation were mobilized in forcible evacuation. The crime of the warhawks and pro-U.S. sycophantic elements keen to expand the U.S. military base to support the U.S. policy of aggression and war is evoking the surging resentment of all the fellow countrymen.

KPA Anniversary Marked Abroad

     Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- Lectures were given and film shows were held by the Ethiopian Youth Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea, the Paektusan Czech-Korean Friendship Association, the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front and the Secretariat of the Pan-African Movement from April 22 to 28 on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the foundation of the Korean People's Army. "The Korean People's Army, Steel-like Ranks" and other Korean films were screened at the film shows.
    The chairman of the Ethiopian Youth Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea in a lecture said that the 70-odd-year history of the KPA is a proud history in which it has demonstrated the might of a strong army, holding the outstanding brilliant commanders in esteem.
    Members of the Paektusan Czech-Korean Friendship Association, after appreciating the film, said that they were encouraged to see the invincible might of the KPA and they have come to know well the reason why the DPRK is confidently advancing along the road of socialism, not affected by the U.S. imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle it. The chief for External Relations of the Palestinian Popular Struggle Front who is also member of its Political Bureau noted that the film convinced him that nobody can match the might of the heroic KPA led by the iron-willed brilliant commander and the final victory is in store for the Korean people.
    The director of the Financial Department of the Secretariat of the Pan-African Movement said that through the film he saw the disciplined and united army and people of the DPRK. No one will dare provoke the DPRK who has the army equipped with modern offensive and defensive means and strong people, the director added.

Moves to Commit Military Force to Phyongthaek Denounced

     Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly released a statement on May 3, urging the "Ministry of National Defence" of south Korea to immediately stop committing military force to Phyongthaek. It is unpardonable for the ministry to commit military force to Phyongthaek against residents who want to do farming in their own land, the statement said, and went on: The struggle to protect Phyongthaek is an expression of all-people resistance targeting the headquarters of the U.S. forces in south Korea, the root cause of evil in the Korean Peninsula.
    Our people will never yield to any suppression by the "Ministry of National Defence".

RS Calls for Training Many Competent Talents

     Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- Training many competent talents through vigorous revolution in education is an important work for the future of the country and the nation and a firm guarantee for building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation on the basis of modern science and technology as early as possible.     What is important in training competent talents is to set a proper goal of training them to meet the requirements of the new century and improve the content and methods of education so as to attain it.
    To achieve the goal of education the content and methods of education should be improved to suit it. Kim Jong Il Enjoys Art Performance

     Pyongyang, May 7 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, enjoyed an art performance given by the State Symphony Orchestra at the reconstructed Moranbong Theatre. Also among the audience were Kim Kuk Thae and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the C.C., WPK, senior officials of the Party and the army and officials in the fields of culture and arts and media.
    The performers put on the stage colorful numbers including orchestral music "The Sound of a Horse' Hooves in Mt. Paektu" and "Rich Harvest Comes to the Chongsan Plain" and world famous music pieces composed by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. The performers truthfully represented the unshakable faith and will of the army and people of the DPRK to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche and the cause of building a great prosperous powerful nation under the uplifted banner of great Songun at any cost and fully demonstrated the validity and vitality of the WPK's literary and art policy of creating, arranging and presenting art works in Korean style from A to Z. He extended thanks to the creators and artistes of the orchestra, expressing great satisfaction over the successful performance given by them with high artistry. He highly appreciated their successes, noting that they have created a lot of masterpieces deeply loved by the Korean people by firmly maintaining the principle of developing symphonies in Korean style to meet their sentiment. Army Day Celebrated in Different Countries

     Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Meetings, seminars and reading sessions took place in Bangladesh, India, France and Democratic Congo from April 22 to 28 on the occasion of the 74th birthday of the Korean People's Army. Seen on the walls of the venue were portraits of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il.
    Displayed there were photographs showing the invincible might of the KPA. The chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh said in his speech made at a meeting that the victory and glorious history of the KPA would be unthinkable without the leadership of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, adding that the KPA would win only victory in the confrontation with the imperialists under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    The director of the Indian Institute for Foreign Policy Studies noted in his speech that the course of sure victory covered by the KPA is a history of their Songun leadership. He explained in detail the undying feats the peerlessly great persons performed by training the KPA into an invincible army and turning the DPRK into an impregnable fortress. The director of a vocational school in Democratic Congo said at a reading session that the KPA founded by Kim Il Sung has entered a new stage of its development under the leadership of Kim Jong Il. He praised the KPA for fully demonstrating its might. Participants of the functions watched Korean films including "The 70th Birthday of the Heroic Korean People's Army" and "Korean People's Army, Steel-Strong Ranks." Messages of greetings to Kim Jong Il were adopted at the functions held in Bangladesh and India.

Anniversary of ARF Observed in India

     Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- A lecture was sponsored by the Indian Youth Group for the Study of Works of Comrade Kim Il Sung on May 1 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland (ARF). At the lecture the chairman of the group explained in detail how the ARF was founded, adding that the ARF was the first national united front body in Korea founded and led by President Kim Il Sung in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle. He stressed that the idea of the great national unity set out by Kim Il Sung has been successfully carried forward by leader Kim Jong Il and he has glorified Korean-style socialism centered on the popular masses with his unique Songun politics. Korea's reunification is bound to come true thanks to the strong will of all the Korean people to defend and implement the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration to the letter, he stressed.

National Festival of Science and Technology Held

     Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The 21st National Festival of Science and Technology was held in Pyongyang from May 2 to 5. It involved a seminar on latest scientific and technological achievements, a public presentation of achievements in scientific researches and technological innovation and an exhibition of diagrams.
    The national festival was preceded by the provincial, city and county festivals of science and technology to which tens of thousands of scientific and technological achievements were presented by officials, scientists, technicians and working people from different parts of the country.
    At least 500 scientific and technological achievements which had been highly estimated at the provincial, city and county festivals were presented at 19 panel discussions including agricultural, power and metal industrial sectors and railway transport.
    Participants of the festival introduced scientific and technological achievements in various domains helpful to putting the ultra-modern technology and basic scientific and technological sectors and the technological engineering in major domains onto a higher level of development and accelerating the reconstruction and modernization of the national economy and exchanged their experience.
    At the festival special prize went to the paper on the technology of cultivating a new variety of high-yielding paddy rice, the paper on a new type horizontal jib tower crane and three other papers while first place went to the paper on a technological measure for ensuring the highest efficiency and normal operation of wind-driven generator and 51 other papers.
    A closing ceremony of the national festival took place at Kim Chaek University of Technology on May 5.
    Present there were Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Kim Yong Jin, minister of Education, Pyon Yong Rip, president of the State Academy of Sciences, and officials concerned.
    After the results of the national festival were announced by the jury, festival cups, medals and certificates were awarded to the successful participants in the festival.

S. Koreans Protest against Land Expropriation

     Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek and the Phaengsong Town Measure Committee for Opposing the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base reportedly held a press conference on May 2 to denounce the deceptive "dialogue" of the "Ministry of National Defence" regarding the issue of an area to be designated to expand the U.S. military base. At the press conference speakers said that while talking about "dialogue with residents in Phyongthaek", the ministry forced them to "stop farming" and "ensure the project", which is a mockery of the people.
    A press release, which was read out at the press conference, said that the "dialogue" ballad of the ministry was a deception and delaying tactics to improve its plight driven into a tight corner. It noted that the ministry is scheming to shift the blame for delaying "dialogue" onto the residents and staged a preliminary training for land expropriation by mobilizing even a helicopter. If the ministry expropriates land in the end, the people will fight against it in a do-or-die spirit and the ministry will be held responsible for all followup developments, it warned.

     Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today devotes its one whole page to a by-lined article titled "Paektu revolutionary traditions are an eternal lifeline of Songun Korea". The article is published on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Down-with-Imperialism Union formed by President Kim Il Sung and the 50th anniversary of the study tour of the revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu started by leader Kim Jong Il. The article notes that the army and the people of the DPRK have dynamically stepped up the general march for the Songun revolution, regarding the Paektu revolutionary traditions as an eternal lifeline for accomplishing the cause of Juche. In its first part the article stresses that the above-said traditions established by the President serve as an invincible banner of eternal vitality.
    The traditions are eternal guidelines for the revolution as they embody the principle of the Songun revolution which calls for exploring the road of revolution and winning its victory with arms.
    The idea of attaching importance to arms served as the kernel and starting point of all the lines and policies, strategies and tactics in the protracted course of the Korean revolution. The principle of Songun helped work out fundamental guidelines for building the party, the army and the state, lay down a strategy of giving importance to the ideology and achieving unity and indicate the shortest cut to the social transformation, human remoulding and nature-remaking.
    The Paektu revolutionary traditions also mean the tradition of revolutionary comradeship and single-minded unity, and they serve as an ever-lasting weapon for successfully accomplishing the socialist cause in the present times as they contain rich experience gained in the Songun revolution and exploits performed in its course. The Korean revolution is a glorious revolution as it achieved the steel-like unity of the whole party and society deeply rooted in the Paektu traditions of single-minded unity and has always emerged victorious with its might. In this proud course, the traditions of the Korean revolution have been given steady continuity and our country has demonstrated its might as a powerful state that boasts the single-minded unity. In the second part, the article notes that the Korean revolution is sure to triumph as it has a great history and traditions and they have been steadfastly carried forward. Kim Jong Il is the great protector and successor to the Paektu revolutionary traditions because he has directed utmost efforts to inheriting the revolutionary traditions, regarding this matter as essential for the victorious advance and accomplishment of the revolutionary cause.
    50 years ago, he started the study tour of revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu. 8th Pyongyang Medical Scientific Symposium Held

     Pyongyang, May 6 (KCNA) -- The 8th Pyongyang medical scientific symposium of Koreans at home and abroad took place at the People's Palace of Culture from May 3 through 5. The symposium was attended by Choe Chang Sik, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Medical Association, and others.
    It was also attended by a delegation of Korean medical scientists in Japan led by Ri Tae Guk, chairman of the Korean Medical Association in Japan, a delegation of Korean medical scientists in the U.S. led by Jo Jun Yong, associate professor of Balyor College of Dentistry, U.S., and a delegation of medical scientists of the south side led by Kim Se Gon, permanent vice-chairman of the south Korean Association of Doctors. Choe Chang Sik made an opening address which was followed by congratulatory speeches by heads of the delegations.
    The symposium heard lectures given under the titles "On 'Ouichwalyobang', medical heritage dating back to the period of Koryo and its recovery", "Historical inquiry into minamata disease", "On revitalization medical science" and others. Then more than 70 valuable papers were presented at panel discussions involving basic science and oncology, surgical and dental diseases, internal and pediatric diseases and obstetrics and gynecology.
    The papers dealt with achievements and experience gained in solving scientific and technical problems pending urgent solutions in the medical treatment suited to the constitutional features of Koreans and the practical health care and in introducing state-of-the-art science and technology to preventing and treating diseases in keeping with the global trend of the rapidly developing medical science and technology. The symposium also discussed the issue of how the Korean medical scientists in the north and the south and abroad should conduct exchange and cooperation in the field of medical science as required by the June 15 era.

XXI festival central de ciencias y tecnicas

    　Pyongyang, 6 de mayo (ATCC) -- Tuvo lugar del dia 2 al 5 en esta capital el XXI Festival Central de Ciencias y Tecnicas por medio del seminario sobre los logros cientificos y tecnicos de punta, la exposicion de exitos de investigacion cientifica e innovacion tecnica y la exhibicion de diagramas. 　Los funcionarios, cientificos, tecnicos y trabajadores de distintas localidades presentaron decenas de miles de datos de logros cientificos y tecnicos en los festivales de este estilo efectuados con anterioridad en las provincias, ciudades y distritos. 　En el festival central fueron expuestos mas de 500 datos excelentes, divididos en 19 secciones tales como la de produccion agricola, la de energia electrica, la de metalurgia y la de transporte ferroviario.
    　Se intercambiaron las experiencias y se dieron a conocer los datos de varias esferas que contribuiran a llevar a un nivel alto las ramas de ciencias y tecnicas basicas y de punta y la ingenieria tecnologica de otros sectores importantes y a acelerar la remodelacion y modernizacion de la economia nacional.
    　En la ocasion, la tecnica de cultivo de un arroz de alto rendimiento, la grua de torre horizontal de nuevo tipo y otros tres datos ganaron el grado especial y 52 datos incluida la medida tecnica sobre la eficiencia mas adecuada y gestion normal de aerogenerador obtuvieron el primer lugar.
    　La ceremonia clausural del festival tuvo lugar el dia 5 en la Universidad Politecnica Kim Chaek.

    　Pyongyang, 6 de mayo (ATCC) -- Los coreanos del interior y exterior del pais efectuaron del 3 al 5 del mes en curso en el capitalino Palacio Cultural del Pueblo el VIII Simposio de Pyongyang sobre la Ciencia Medica. 　En la ocasion participaron el presidente del CC de la Asociacion de los Medicos de Corea Choe Chang Sik y otros funcionarios, la delegacion de medicos coreanos residentes en Japon presidida por Ri Tae Guk, presidente de la Asociacion de Medicos Coreanos residentes en Japon, la delegacion de medicos coreanos residentes en Estados Unidos encabezada por Jo Jun Yong candidato a profesor titular de la Universidad Dentista de Balyer de EE.UU. y la delegacion de medicos del Sur de Corea dirigida por Kim Se Gon vicepresidente permanente de la Asociacion de Medicos Surcoreanos.

    　En el acto se dio una conferencia intitulada "Sobre el 'Ouichwalyobang', patrimonio de ciencia medica de la epoca de Coryo y su restauracion", "Observacion historica de la enfermedad Minamata", "Sobre la ciencia medica para la revitalizacion", etc. 　Acto seguido, fueron publicados mas de 70 disertaciones de valor en los simposios de la seccion basica y oncologia, la de cirugia y estomatologia, la de medicina interna y de pediatria y la de ginecologia.
    　Las disertaciones dieron a conocer los exitos y experiencias logrados en las labores para solucionar los problemas cientificos y tecnicos que se presentan apremiantemente en la practica medica y la constitucion fisica del pueblo coreano y aplicar en la prevencion y curacion de enfermedades las ciencias y tecnicas de punta conforme a la tendencia mundial del vertiginoso desarrollo de la ciencia y tecnica medicas. 　En el simposio los medicos coreanos del Norte, el Sur y en ultramar consultaron los medios para activar el intercambio y la cooperacion en la esfera de ciencia medica segun la demanda de la epoca del 15 de junio.
    　Y fueron condecorados prendas de recuerdo y diplomas a los jefes de las delegaciones y oradores que publicaron excelentes disertaciones de ciencia medica.
