Anniversary of Kim Il Sung's Work Observed

    Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- It is the strong will of the Korean people to firmly preserve, widely use and develop their written and spoken languages closely associated with the leadership of the peerlessly great persons and thus further demonstrate the dignity and advantages of the Korean nation. Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed article.
    It goes on:
    President Kim Il Sung authored the work "On Correctly Preserving the National Characteristics of the Korean Language" on May 14, Juche 55 (1966). The work has served as important guidelines as it gives comprehensive and scientific answers to the principled questions arising in preserving the national character and Juche character of the Korean language.
    Clarified in the work in detail are the idea that it is an essential demand for the development of the Korean language and a national duty for the revolutionaries and other people to preserve its national character, the idea on the main orientation of properly preserving its national character and laying a foundation for developing it, the way of arranging and developing the Korean language and various issues in arranging the vocabulary.
    The work sets out it as a very important idea to preserve and develop the national character of the Korean language with the speech of Pyongyang as its standard.
    Leader Kim Jong Il has creditably carried forward Kim Il Sung's Juche-oriented idea of language. He profoundly elucidated the essential principle and scientific ways for developing the socialist national language and clarified the issues to be settled by the party of the working class to develop the national language. Visiting Chinese Delegation Feted

    Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government hosted a banquet at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Saturday in honor of a Chinese delegation of martyr Mao Anying's family and his relatives on a visit to the DPRK. Present there on invitation were the delegation led by former Deputy Department Director of the Chinese Academy of Military Science Shao Hua and Ambassador Wu Donghe, Military Attache Yang Xilian and staff members of the Chinese embassy here.
    Also present were Vice-President of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Yang Hyong Sop, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Yong Il, Lieutenant General of the Korean People's Army Han Tong Gun, Secretary General of the Korean Committee of Anti-Imperialist Veteran Fighters An Yong Gi, officials concerned and KPA officers.
    Han Tong Gun in his speech made at the banquet recalled that the party and government of China headed by Mao Zedong organized the Chinese People's Volunteers and dispatched them to the Korean front 56 years back, adding that Mao Anying dedicated his life at the age of 28 while fighting as an ordinary CPV fighter.
    The DPRK-China friendship has steadily grown stronger under the special care of leader Kim Jong Il and President Hu Jintao, he said, stressing that the Korean people are satisfied to see the successful inheritance of the DPRK-China friendship, a precious legacy Kim Il Sung provided and handed down together with revolutionaries of the elder generation of China including Mao Zedong, the great leader of the Chinese people, to posterity.
    Shao Hua in a speech said that the army and people of the DPRK have achieved great successes in the efforts to build a prosperous and powerful country and made progress in the work to improve the external environment in recent years, overcoming all difficulties by displaying the spirit of self-reliance and fortitude under the leadership of Kim Jong Il and the Workers' Party of Korea.
    It is the common desire of the peoples of the two countries and in line with their fundamental interests to steadily develop the Sino-Korean friendship, she noted, and continued:

Protection of Phyongthaek Called for in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- The Presidium of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification reportedly issued a special appeal titled "Let us defend Phyongthaek for independence and peace of the Korean nation and our future" on May 9. The appeal said that Phyongthaek has witnessed the wild ambition of the U.S. to reduce it to a base for a war and proves how far the present "government" has gone in its pro-U.S. actions to indiscriminately kill its people, yielding to the U.S.
    Phyongthaek requires the people to unite closer in the actions against the U.S., the appeal said, calling on all of them to rise up to defend Phyongthaek.
    The appeal denounced the present "government" keen to sacrifice its people for ensuring the expansion of the U.S. military base and the U.S. busy with its moves to reduce the Korean Peninsula to a military base for aggression. It demanded the withdrawal of the U.S. troops from south Korea.

New Medal Instituted

    Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- The DPRK instituted a medal for honoring members of the Speed Campaign Youth Shock Brigade (SCYSB) who make a positive contribution to building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation, fully demonstrating the invincible spirit and militancy of the young vanguard in the Songun era with intense loyalty to the Workers' Party of Korea and the leader. A decree of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly on instituting the Service Medal of the SCYSB was promulgated on May 10.

Brutal Crackdown upon Protesters Assailed in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- The fact-finding group for probing the truth behind violence and violation of human rights in Phyongthaek of south Korea reportedly held a press conference in Seoul on May 10 to make public the initial results of investigation into the truth behind human rights abuses in Phyongthaek. The group said that the military and police forces, when requisitioning the land, tramped under their jackboots and blackjacked those involved in a sit-in strike and spread liquid tear gas over them, thus wounding more than 460 on May 4 and at least 100 on May 5.
    It also noted that the forces even barred those wounded from receiving the first-aid treatment.
    Terming the above-said crackdown premeditated, the group strongly demanded that the "government", the "Defense Ministry" and the police authorities take full responsibility for it and withdraw the forces from the site planned for the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek.
    It declared that it would form a litigious group of people to file a suit demanding the withdrawal of the defined "zone for the protection of military facilities" and sue the minister of Defense and the chief of the Police Office for spearheading such violence.     Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- The visiting Chinese delegation of martyr Mao Anying's family and his relatives headed by former Deputy Department Director of the Chinese Academy of Military Science Shao Hua traveled to Hoechang County, South Phyongan Province, on Sunday where it laid wreaths before the grave of Mao Anying and the cemetery of fallen fighters of the Chinese People's Volunteers. Present there were Kim Yong Il, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, An Yong Gi, secretary general of the Korean Committee of Anti-Imperialist Veteran Fighters, officials concerned, KPA officers, officials of Party and power bodies in the county, Wu Donghe, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, Yang Xilian, military attache of the Chinese embassy, and its staff members.
    Wreaths in the name of the delegation, the embassy and the family and relatives of martyr Mao Anying were placed before the grave and wreaths in the name of the delegation and the embassy before the cemetery.
    The attendants paid silent tribute to Mao Anying and other fallen fighters of the CPV who laid down their lives while courageously fighting in the Korean war.
    Then they looked round the grave and cemetery and planted trees around them.

DPRK-Syria Joint Economic Committee Meets

    Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- The 4th meeting of the DPRK-Syria Joint Economic Committee took place here on May 13 and 14. Present there were members of a DPRK government economic delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Trade Rim Kyong Man and members of a Syrian government economic delegation headed by Minister of Economy and Commerce Amer Hosni Lutfi and Syrian Charge d'Affaires ad Interim in Pyongyang Muhammad Adib Al Hani.
    The meeting reviewed the implementation of the protocol of the 3rd meeting of the committee and discussed issues of boosting the bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology.

Wreaths Laid before Cemetery of Fallen CPV Fighters

    Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government and the Ministry of the People's Armed Forces and party and power bodies in Hoechang County, South Phyongan Province, laid wreaths before the cemetery of fallen fighters of the Chinese People's Volunteers in the county on Sunday. Letter to Kim Jong Il Adopted

    Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- Leader Kim Jong Il received a letter sent by the participants of a meeting of communist parties and friendship and solidarity organizations in the Nordic countries on Apr. 13 on the occasion of the Day of the Sun. The letter said: On the occasion of the 94th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung we remember with deep emotion the enormous efforts made by him for the reunification of the country and the exploits performed by him in this cause during his lifetime. We express invariable solidarity with the Korean people in their struggle for reunification.
    The three principles of independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity and the proposal for achieving reunification by a federal formula set forth by Kim Il Sung are a reasonable offer acceptable to anyone desirous of reunification.
    If peace is to settle on the Korean Peninsula the U.S. should replace the armistice agreement by a peace mechanism, the Korean people should wage a dynamic patriotic movement for independent reunification, peace against war and great national unity in the idea of "By our nation itself" and accelerate Korea's reunification under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration.

Crackdown upon Struggle against Expansion of U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek Denounced

    Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Phyongthaek of south Korea reportedly issued a statement on May 9 to denounce the "Ministry of National Defence" for its crackdown and the conservative media for its false report. The statement accused the ministry of supplying lethal equipment to the south Korean army unit mobilized to ensure the expansion of the base and threatening to apply the military law to those struggling against the expansion on May 8.
    Meanwhile, the ministry is instigating the conservative media to drive a wedge between the inhabitants in Phyongthaek and the measure committee and describe the actions of the people against the requisitioning of land and eviction as "violent actions of the anti-U.S. forces" in a bid to secure a pretext for harsh crackdown upon them, the statement charged.
    The statement demanded the "government" immediately withdraw the army unit and remove wire entanglements, retract the unreasonable designation of the "zone for the protection of military facilities", take responsibility for the brutal crackdown, fire the minister of "National Defence" and the chief of the police agency and release all those arrested.
    The statement bitterly denounced the conservative media for turning their faces away from the essence and danger of the situation and releasing grossly distorted reports about what happened in Phyongthaek without having even an iota of impartiality as media.

Conservative Media's Diatribe under Fire in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils (Hanchongryon) reportedly released a statement on May 9 to denounce the conservative media for speaking ill of the conference of representatives of the students in the north and the south for the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration. The statement expressed anger at the conservative media's ridiculous act of misinterpreting the significance of the conference of representatives of the south and the north, the first of its kind in the history of national division, at which they reiterated the will to work hard for the reunification and peace of the country and misleading the public opinion.
    Nothing is more deplorable than the anachronistic attitude of the conservative media branding the just patriotic activities of the students as pro-north and anti-U.S. ones, the statement noted, and went on:
    With no desperate obstructions can the anti-reunification forces stop the Koreans from advancing towards reunification by their concerted efforts. Hanchongryon will join the patriotic students of other universities in spearheading the movement for implementing the June 15 joint declaration.

Russian Ambassador Hosts Reception

    Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Andrei Karlov Friday hosted a reception at the Russian embassy on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of Russia's victory in the Great Patriotic War. Present on invitation were officials concerned and officers of the Korean People's Army.

Moves to Strengthen U.S.-Japan Military Alliance Denounced

    Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Committee for Asian Joint Action against the U.S. and Japanese Imperialists' Aggression and Domination in Asia reportedly issued a statement on May 3 to denounce the U.S. and Japan for scheming to strengthen their military alliance. Recalling that the U.S. and Japan agreed to set up joint headquarters on May 2, the statement said that through this the U.S. is seeking to make Japan a strategic stronghold for aggression in Northeast Asia and Japan is intending to put into practice a war of aggression with the strengthened military alliance with the U.S. as a springboard.

U.S. Can Never Cover Up Its True Colors as Biological and Chemical War Criminal

    Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The U.S. bellicose forces, not content with being the biggest possessor of biological and chemical weapons in the world, are continuously developing and producing new nuclear, biological and chemical weapons and openly using them in aggression and war against other countries in defiance of international law. Citing data, a signed article of Rodong Sinmun Saturday says:
    The U.S. imperialists committed a germ and chemical warfare in a real earnest in the northern half of Korea during the last Korean War.
    The U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff mapped out a plan for extensively using germ weapons in the actual war in the autumn of 1950. On this basis they committed a germ warfare against peaceable residents and cities of Korea in a wily way.
    The germ warfare atrocities of the U.S. troops reached the extremes in 1952.
    They dropped all sorts of germ bombs on 169 areas of the northern half of Korea 804 times in total from early January to March 1952. They dropped various articles containing poisonous insects and germs in at least 90 cities and counties 900 times in total from January to April 1952. Kinds of the germ weapons used by them during the war numbered more than 20.
    They not only massively used germ weapons during the war but also brutally conducted tests on living bodies of POWs of our side. In 1951 they sent warships to a place near Wonsan, where they tested germ weapons on POWs almost every day, totaling 3,000 cases.
    One of the most brutal crimes committed by the U.S. imperialists against Koreans during the war was that they massively used chemical weapons. They used many chemical weapons in 24 cities and counties in the northern half of Korea including Kangwon and Hwanghae Provinces and front areas from February 1951 to July 1953.
    Napalm bombs were used in most cases.
    They used depleted uranium shells and other weapons of mass destruction in the Vietnam war, Persian Gulfs war and in the subsequent wars, inflicting great casualties and sufferings upon a large number of people. They brutally killed peaceable people of Iraq with chemical weapons on charges of "terrorists".
    The biological and chemical warfare committed by the U.S. imperialists, the most diabolic and cruel barbarians of modern type, can never be covered up.
    The U.S. is the biggest possessor of biological and chemical weapons in the world. Nevertheless, the U.S. imperialists try to brand others as criminals, an indication of their peculiar shamelessness and brigandism.
    The U.S. should stop unreasonable action of finding fault with others who are not problematic, honestly admit and open to the public its atrocious crimes of biological and chemical warfare and stand trial by history.

En particular, durante la pasada guerra coreana, la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea fue la victima de la guerra bacteriologica y quimica de gran envergadura lanzada por los imperialistas yanquis, recuerda el articulista y continua:
    En otono de 1950, la Junta de los jefes del Estado Mayor de EE.UU. elaboro el plan de emplear una gran cantidad de armas bacteriologicas en la guerra, segun el cual los imperialistas norteamericanos iniciaron esa sucia guerra contra los habitantes pacificos y las ciudades de la RPDC.
    Desde la primera decena de enero hasta marzo de 1952, arrojaron en 804 ocasiones bombas bacteriologicas sobre 169 localidades de la RPDC.
    Ademas, entre enero y abril del mismo ano, en mas de 900 ocasiones fueron esparcidos sobre mas de 90 ciudades y distritos insectos venenosos y muchas cosas transmisoras de microbios nocivos.
    En fin, fueron utilizadas mas de 20 tipos de la bomba bacteriologica en lo que duro la pasada guerra coreana.
    De mal en peor, en 1951 los buques de guerra de EE.UU. tocaron puerto en un lugar cercano de Wonsan donde realizaron casi a diario experimentos de armas bacteriologicas con seres humanos de la RPDC, cifra de los cuales llega a mas de 3 mil veces.
    Ademas, entre febrero de 1951 y julio de 1953, emplearon muchas armas quimicas como bombas napalm -tipo mas utilizado en la guerra coreana- en 24 ciudades, distritos y zonas del frente, inclusive las provincias de Kangwon y Hwanghae.
    A escala mundial, los imperialistas yanquis usaron un gran numero de armas de destruccion masiva, inclusive la bomba de uranio empobrecido, en las guerras vietnamita y del golfo persico y en las posteriores infligiendo indecibles perdidas y sufrimientos a muchas personas.
    Peor aun, con armas quimicas mataron a sangre fria a muchos iraquies pacificos acusandolos de "terroristas".
    Todos los hechos delatan que el mas barbaro y feroz EE.UU. nunca podra encubrir sus crimenes de la guerra bioquimica.
    Sin embargo, los muy frescos y bandidos imperialistas gringos siempre andan acusando a otros paises en este tema.
    En lugar de hacerlo, deben reconocer sinceramente y dar a la publicidad esos crimenes tan salvajes para esperar luego el veredicto de la historia al respecto.

Kim Jong Il recibe carta de entidades de paises nordicos

   Pyongyang, 13 de mayo (ATCC) -- El Dirigente Kim Jong Il recibio una carta que le dirigieran el 13 de abril, en ocasion del Dia del Sol (15 de abril, cumpleanos del Presidente Kim Il Sung), los participantes en un mitin de los partidos comunistas y las entidades de amistad y solidaridad de los paises nordicos. La misiva escribe que en ocasion del 94 aniversario del nacimiento del Presidente, los participantes recuerdan con profunda emocion los incansables esfuerzos y grandes hazanas logrados por el en aras de la reunificacion de Corea y ratifican invariable solidaridad con la lucha del pueblo coreano por cumplir esta empresa.
    Prosigue que los tres principios, o sea, la independencia, la reunificacion pacifica y la gran unidad nacional y el proyecto de fundacion de la Republica Federal Democratica de Koryo son ideas acertadas y aceptables para todas las personas que deseen la reunificacion de Corea.
    Subraya que para preservar la paz en la Peninsula Coreana, es preciso que EE.UU. cambie el acuerdo de armisticio por el de paz y que el pueblo coreano despliegue mas dinamicamente los tres movimientos patrioticos por la reunificacion independiente, por la paz contra la guerra y por la gran unidad nacional con el ideal de "Entre nosotros, los connacionales" a fin de adelantar la reunificacion de Corea bajo la bandera de la Declaracion Conjunta del 15 de Junio.

Parte de Pyongyang la delegacion del PTC a Cuba

    Pyongyang, 13 de mayo (ATCC) -- Partio el dia 13 de esta capital la delegacion del Partido del Trabajo de Corea (PTC) encabezada por su secretario Kim Ki Nam para realizar una visita a Cuba. En el aeropuerto la despidieron Pak Kyong Son, subjefe de departamento del CC del PTC y otros funcionarios coreanos, asi como Ruben Perez Valdes, embajador extraordinario y plenipotenciario de la Republica de Cuba acreditado en Corea.
