    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- Film shows were held by the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea and the Malaysia Chinese Association (MCA), a special lecture was given by the Group for the Study of the Juche Philosophy in Kinshasa University of Democratic Congo and lectures were given by the Tanzanian National Coordinating Committee of the Juche Idea Study Groups and the Korean Chilbo Timber Company in Equatorial Guinea from June 9 to 13 on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il Gives On-the-Spot Guidance to Work in Various Fields", "For the Liberation of the Country" and other Korean films were screened at the film shows.
    The general secretary of the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea said at the film show that no party of any country can match the organizational ability and capability of the WPK. The might of the WPK is precisely the manifestation of the political ability of Kim Jong Il, he added.
    After seeing a film, the executive secretary of the MCA Youth Organization said that under the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il the Korean people have made great achievements in the efforts build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation and reunify the country, meeting all challenges of the imperialist allied forces, united in one mind.

Japanese Reactionaries' Moves to Convert Their Country into Military Giant Assailed

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- The Japanese government at a recent ministerial meeting officially approved a draft amendment to a "Law on Self-Defence Forces" which calls for raising the Defence Agency to the status of ministry. The amendment also defines overseas military operation as a basic mission of the SDF. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says:
    The Japanese reactionaries are working hard to promote the Defence Agency to a ministry to ensure more legitimate, active and effective overseas military operation of the SDF and convert the country into a military power. This is the last phase of their moves to turn the country into a military giant.
    Overseas aggression is their invariable ambition.
    It is well known that they have been keen to realize their ambition for overseas aggression for the last several decades. The SDF have all means and capabilities to launch overseas aggression, going far beyond the mission as forces for self-defence. The Japanese reactionaries have secured even legal and institutional mechanism for the SDF's overseas military activities. It is their calculation that they would be able to successfully realize their militarist ambition, unhindered, only if the present "Pacifist Constitution" is revised and the Defence Agency is raised to the status of ministry in the efforts to carry out their militarist overseas aggression. The Japanese reactionaries' moves to promote the Agency to a ministry are aimed to convert the country into a military giant and effectively mobilize the militarist armed forces for overseas aggression any moment.
    Of late they decided to introduce nine inter-continental ballistic missiles from the U.S. with an aim to increase the offensive capacity of the SDF and step up the moves to emerge a military giant.
    Minju Joson Monday in a commentary observes that lurking behind the Japanese reactionaries' moves to promote the agency to a ministry is an intention to achieve with ease their sinister political aim to emerge a military power and launch overseas aggression.

Floral Basket Laid before Portrait of Kim Il Sung

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- A function for laying a floral basket before a portrait of smiling President Kim Il Sung took place by the Organization of Solidarity of the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America on June 13 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Cuban Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification.     Juan Jose Leon Vega, chairman of the Cuban Committee for Supporting Korea's Reunification, said that Kim Il Sung devoted all his life to the happiness of the people. The reunification of Korea was the greatest desire of Kim Il Sung, he said, stressing that the Korean people will certainly accelerate the day of reunification together with the world progressive people.

U.S. Scheme to Weaponize Space Flayed

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- The U.S. newspaper Boston Globe some time ago disclosed that the U.S. Defense Department had worked out a new comprehensive plan of space weaponization to grab the military control of the space. This comes under fire in Minju Joson Tuesday, which describes the move as an indication of the U.S. drive to turn even space, a common object of peaceful use of humankind, into a theater of war for the seizure of supremacy.
    Noting that it is a deep-rooted scheme of the United States to gratify its ambition of world supremacy based on its military superiority, the analyst says:
    The United States is spreading the rumor that its moves for the establishment of MD and space weaponization are of "defensive nature" for "protecting" its mainland and allies from a possible "military attack" by the "enemies". But this is, to all intents and purposes, a sophism to cover up the sum and substance of the matter.
    In case the U.S. deploys military hardware even in the space, the world will be embroiled into a space arms race, like or not, and this will lead to a fierce strife for supremacy among the powers in the space that was not witnessed even in the Cold War days and touch off a space war in the long run. This is as plain as noonday.
    The world is not allowed to avert its face from the grave situation in which it is facing the danger of a nuclear shower from the blue sky.
    If the United States pursues the expansion of space weaponization, urged by its concept of confrontation of the old era, it will drive it to its final destruction.
    The U.S. should drop at once its scheme of space weaponization which would inflict nuclear disasters on humankind, the analyst urges.

Korea-Austria Photo Exhibition Opens

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- A Korea-Austria photo exhibition was opened. Displayed at the venue of the photo exhibition on the theme of "Bridge of Culture" are photos showing beautiful landscape of Korea and Austria and the progress of culture made by the two peoples.
    An opening ceremony took place at the Pyongyang International Cultural Center on Monday.
    Present there were Hong Son Ok, vice-chairperson of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and chairperson of the Korea-Austria Friendship Association, officials concerned, working people in the city, an official of the Austrian embassy in Beijing and other Austrian guests.
    Present on invitation were foreign diplomatic envoys and embassy officials, an official of the mission of international organization here and guests from European countries.
    Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hong Son Ok said that the exhibition will contribute to deepening understanding between the peoples of Korea and Austria and boosting friendly relations between the two countries.
    She expressed the belief that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries will grow stronger in conformity with the desire of the two peoples.
    An official of the Austrian embassy in Beijing and other Austrians, speaking next, said that the exhibition will offer to visitors an opportunity to know well about the development of culture of the two countries. They expressed the belief that the photo exhibition of the two countries to be held in Vienna in the wake of that held in Pyongyang will also mark an occasion in developing the mutual exchange and deepening friendly relations among the peoples.
    At the end of the ceremony, the participants went round photos on display. The exhibition will continue till June 25.

Meeting Held in Russia

    Moscow, June 18 (KCNA) -- A meeting marking the 42nd anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea was held in Moscow on June 16 under the sponsorship of the Russian Association for Friendship and Cultural Cooperation with the DPRK. Present there were Chairman Vladimir Tolstikov and First Vice-Chairman Yuri Vanin of the association, Veredin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and other public figures and people of various social strata.
    DPRK Ambassador to Russia Pak Ui Chun and embassy officials were present on invitation.
    The chairman of the association in his speech said that Kim Jong Il paid primary attention to properly defining the basic orientation of the party work and activities from the first days after he started working at the Central Committee of the WPK.
    After reviewing the achievements made by the Korean people in their efforts to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation under his leadership, the chairman continued:
    Korea has held higher the red flag in answer to the moves of imperialism and counterrevolution. The army and people of the DPRK have valiantly pulled through difficulties and defended socialism under the leadership of Kim Jong Il, shattering the imperialists' prediction that socialism was sure to collapse in Korea.
    The secretary of the C.C., the Communist Party of the Soviet Union said the 42nd anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of work at the WPK Central Committee was a significant holiday of the true Communists and people of Russia. He praised Kim Jong Il for having displayed his distinguished leadership ability over the past 40 odd years in strengthening and developing the WPK into the Party of President Kim Il Sung and wisely led the building of a great prosperous powerful nation while turning adversities into favorable conditions with his Songun politics.
    A congratulatory message to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Start of Work at C.C., WPK Observed

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- Functions were held in Pyongyang and local areas to mark the 42nd anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. A meeting of members of the Korean Democratic Women's Union was held at the plaza of the Monument to Party Founding on Monday.
    Pak Sun Hui, chairperson of the C.C., the KDWU, made a report to be followed by speeches.
    The reporter and speakers said that Kim Jong Il's leadership over the WPK enabled it to make a new history of building a revolutionary party holding the legendary hero of Mt. Paektu in high esteem down through generations and made it possible for the Korean revolution to cover the road of victory and glory, adding shine to the tradition of great succession.
    The great history in which Kim Jong Il has developed the WPK into the glorious party of President Kim Il Sung is associated with the undying feats performed by him in strengthening the WPK into a dynamic guiding force of the Songun revolution, they stressed.
    A commemorative poem "Let's Devote Ourselves to Our Mother Party" was recited at the meeting.
    A performance was given by members of the art group of the Pyongyang Schoolchildren's Palace at its theatre on the same day.
    Present at the functions was Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the WPK Central Committee. Performances were also given by art troupes including the Mansudae Art Troupe and the Phibada Opera Troupe at the Ponghwa Art Theatre, the Pyongyang Grand Theatre, the Pyongyang Circus and other theatres in Pyongyang.
    Meanwhile, performances were given by provincial art troupes and art squads including the North Phyongan Provincial, the North Hwanghae Provincial, the North Hamgyong Provincial and the Kangwon Provincial art troupes, the South Phyongan Provincial and the Jagang Provincial art squads.
    Dancing parties of youth and students took place at the plazas of the Tower of the Juche Idea, the Monument to Party Founding and the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium and other places of Pyongyang and local areas including Chongjin and Kanggye on Monday.

Folk Dance Company of Russia Gives Its Premiere in Hamhung

    Hamhung, June 20 (KCNA) -- The visiting State Academic Moiseyev Folk Dance Company of Russia gave its premiere at the Hamhung Grand Theatre on Monday. Appreciating the performance were officials of the party and power bodies, creators, artistes, scientists and working people in South Hamgyong Province.
    The artistes gave a performance replete with DPRK-Russia friendship on the significant 42nd anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea to the delight of the audience.

Rodong Sinmun on Revolutionary Traditions of Juche

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- The revolutionary traditions of Juche are displaying ever greater attraction and vitality as time flows and the revolution advances in the DPRK. This is ascribable to the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il who values them more than anything else and glorifies them. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed article. It goes on:
    Kim Jong Il formed the "group for study of short biography of General Kim Il Sung" in Juche 42 (1953) and started the study tour of revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu in June Juche 45 (1956). They marked historical events which declared at home and abroad his strong faith and will to defend the revolutionary traditions through generations and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche started in the forest of Mt. Paektu.
    He is the great leader who has firmly defended the revolutionary traditions of Juche and glorified them generation after generation.
    It is his immortal historic exploit for carrying forward the revolutionary traditions that he has preserved the purity of the revolutionary traditions of Juche and added shine to them.
    He made a scientific clarification that revolutionary traditions are precisely the ones established by a leader of revolution and the revolutionary traditions of Juche established by President Kim Il Sung are the only traditions for the Workers' Party of Korea to inherit.
    He made sure that the attempts of the anti-party factionalists to defile the purity of the revolutionary traditions of Mt. Paektu and stamp out them were decisively foiled. He, at the same time, took measures to actively find out things valuable gained in the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle.

    The wise leadership of Kim Jong Il who has successfully carried forward the revolutionary traditions of Mt. GIs' Massacre in South Korea Disclosed

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- The U.S. officially ordered its aggression troops to kill civilians during the last Korean war (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953). This has stirred up the surging indignation of the Korean people against the U.S. imperialists. According to the letter written by the then U.S. ambassador in Seoul, the order was decided a day before the massacre in Rogun-ri.
    It was on the evening of July 25, Juche 39 (1950) that the 7th regiment of the first armored division of the U.S. fled to the area of Jugok-ri, Yongdong County, North Chungchong Province, by the strong counteroffensive of the Korean People's Army.
    Saying that they would evacuate the villagers to safe places, the GIs forced villagers and refugees to gather on the railway lines nearby Rogun-ri on July 26. And then U.S. fighter planes dropped bombs and strafed to them.
    The survivals ran to a railway tunnel to take shelter from the air-raid. The GIs machine-gunned to them from low hills and approached to both entrances of the tunnel and opened fire into the tunnel.
    The genocide continued for four consecutive days.
    They slew more than 400 people out of those forcibly evacuated.
    The carnage in Rogun-ri was part of the massacre committed by the GIs during the Korean war.
    After the Rongun-ri massacre, GIs brutally killed over 100 people in Changnyong County of South Kyongsang Province at a time. Similar slaughters were committed in Kochang, Uiryong, Hamyang, Tanyang, Mungyong, areas along the River Rakdong and other places of south Korea.
    The peaceable inhabitants killed by GIs in south Korea during the war totaled over 1.24 millions.
    The Korean people will not forget the genocide committed by the GIs in Rogun-ri and other parts of south Korea and their brutal nature and make the enemy pay for the blood shed without fail.

Bell in Ryangchon Temple

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- There is a delicately-moulded bell in the Ryangchon Temple which is located in Rakchon-ri, Kowon County, South Hamgyong Province, the DPRK. It is hanging in Manse Pavilion the Korean-style roof of which is supported by 20 large round columns.
    It, with various patterns including tablet and Buddhist saint, is engraved with the origin of the bell and names of more than 120 persons concerned in the middle part and decorated with the patterns of lotus flowers in its lower part.
    It is 1.15 meters high, 95 centimeters in diameter and 6-7 centimeters thick and weighs 373 kilograms. Its sound reverberates as far as eight kilometers.
    It is said that the bell was presented to the temple by Sukjo, the 19th king of the Ri Dynasty (1392-1910), praying for the repose of his son's soul.
    In the pre-liberation days the Japanese imperialists attempted to bring the bell to Japan via the Hungnam Port but failed in face of the Korean people's resistance.
    It is well preserved thanks to the cultural heritage preservation policy of the Workers' Party of Korea.

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- A delegation of officials of the Workers' Party of Korea led by Rim Hyong Mo, secretary of its South Phyongan Provincial Committee, and a friendly visiting group of the Korean People's Army led by Colonel General Ri Yong Hwan left here for China on Tuesday. A Chinese delegation of the Antaishenglong Co., Ltd led by its President Zhang Hui arrived here on the same day.

Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Navy Unit

    Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected KPA Navy Unit 401. Conducted by the commander of the unit, he went round the room devoted to the unit's history.
    Going round training rooms and entertainment and educational facilities, he learned about how the unit is implementing its training programme and how it is conducting the political and ideological education among servicepersons.
    He was satisfied with the fact that the unit has steadily raised the level of its combat technique and increased its combat capability through the intensified training with main stress put on fully ensuring scientific accuracy and efficiency in the training and prepared all the servicepersons as a-match-for-a hundred fighters firmly armed with the revolutionary idea of the WPK by energetically conducting the political and ideological work.

Periodicos denuncian intencion de Japon de realizar potencia militar

    Pyongyang, 20 de junio (ATCC) -- Hace unos dias, el gobierno japones aprobo oficialmente en una reunion ministerial el proyecto de enmienda de la "ley de las fuerzas de autodefensa" que asciende de la Agencia de Defensa al Ministro de Defensa y define las actividades militares en ultramar como mision principal de las "fuerzas de autodefensa". 　El diario Rodong Sinmun, en un comentario del dia 20, senala que esto es la ultima etapa de la realizacion de la potencia militar y prosigue:
    　La agresion a ultramar es la invariable ambicion de los reaccionarios japoneses.
    　Es de notoriedad que durante varios decenios ultimos los reaccionarios japoneses maniobraron obstinadamente para realizar su ambicion de agresion a ultramar.
    　Las "fuerzas de autodefensa" de Japon disponen de todos los medios y capacidad para emprender la invasion a ultramar rebasando el limite de la mision de "defenderse". Los reaccionarios japoneses tienen preparados hasta los aparatos juridicos e institucionales para las actividades militares en ultramar de sus "fuerzas de autodefensa". Minju Joson denuncia militarizacion espacial de EE.UU.

    Pyongyang, 20 de junio (ATCC) -- Segun el periodico norteamericano Boston Globe, el Departamento de Defensa de Estados Unidos elaboro un nuevo y extensivo plan para la militarizacion del cosmos. Esto demuestra que EE.UU. trata de convertir el cosmos, a ser usado en fines pacificos por la humanidad, en un campo de guerra para la conquista de la hegemonia.
    Asi senala el periodico Minju Joson en un comentario individual del dia 20 y continua:
    Esa superpotencia tiene una arraigada intencion de realizar ambicion de dominio al mundo luego de tomar la supremacia militar.
    Dice que el establecimiento del sistema de defensa antimisiles y la militarizacion del cosmos tuvieran un "caracter defensivo" para "proteger" los territorios de si mismo y otros paises aliados de un supuesto "ataque militar" de los "enemigos", lo cual no pasa de ser un sofisma para encubrir la esencia de la cuestion.
    Esta claro para todos que la colocacion de los armamentos en el cosmos puede ocasionar una carrera armamentista espacial a escala mundial, una pelea renida entre las potencias por la conquista de la hegemonia en el cosmos, no visto en el periodo de guerra fria, y finalmente la guerra espacial.
    El mundo no puede estar indiferente de la critica situacion de hoy en que se cierne el peligro de la guerra espacial.
    Al perseguir su ambicion de la militarizacion del cosmos con la concepcion de enfrentamiento de la epoca anterior, el imperio adelantara solo su autodestruccion.
    Debe poner de inmediato fin a su militarizacion del cosmos que pueda acarrear catastrofe nuclear a la humanidad.

Conmemoran el 42o aniversario del inicio del trabajo de Kim Jong Il

    Pyongyang, 20 de junio (ATCC) -- Tuvieron lugar en esta capital y localidades los actos dedicados al 42o aniversario del inicio del trabajo del Dirigente Kim Jong Il en el Comite Central del Partido del Trabajo de Corea (PTC). En la explanada frente al Monumento a la Fundacion del Partido se desarrollo el dia 19 un acto de las miembros de la Union de Mujeres Democraticas de Corea (UMDC).
    En la ocasion la presidenta del CC de la UMDC, Pak Sun Hui, presento un informe y otras hicieron uso de la palabra.
    Las oradoras dijeron que desde cuando el Dirigente se puso a la cabeza del PTC y lo dirigio sabiamente, esta entidad politica pudo gozar generacion tras generacion de la direccion del gran hombre legendario del monte Paektu y crear una nueva historia de la construccion del partido revolucionario, y la Revolucion Coreana pudo exaltar el triunfo y el honor haciendo brillar los anales de gran sucesion y enfatizaron:
    En la gran historia en que el Dirigente fortalecio el PTC como el glorioso partido del Presidente Kim Il Sung estan grabadas las inmortales hazanas que el acumulo en el proceso de desarrollar el PTC como potente fuerza orientadora de la revolucion del Songun (priorizacion militar).
    En el acto fue recitada la poesia de felicitacion "Quedemos infinitamente fieles a nuestro partido- madre".
    El mismo dia, en el teatro del Palacio de Ninos y Escolares de Pyongyang se ofrecio una funcion de los miembros del grupo artistico del mismo palacio.

    Tambien, en el Teatro de Arte Ponghwa, el Gran Teatro de Pyongyang, el Circo de Pyongyang y otros teatros capitalinos hubo representaciones del Conjunto Artistico Mansudae, el Conjunto Operistico "Mar de Sangre" y otras entidades artisticas.
    Por otra parte, desarrollaron semejantes actividades los conjuntos artisticos de las provincias de Phyong-an del Norte, Hwanghae del Norte, Hamgyong del Norte y Kangwon, los grupos de propaganda artistica de las provincias de Phyong-an del Sur y Jagang y otros conjuntos y grupos provinciales.
    Ademas, los bailes de los jovenes y estudiantes se realizaron en las explanadas frente al Monumento a la Idea Juche, el Monumento a la Fundacion del Partido, el Palacio de Deportes de Pyongyang y otros lugares de la capital, en las ciudades de Chongjin y Kanggye y otras localidades.
