Mass Rallies Held on June 25, Day of Struggle against U.S. Imperialism

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- Mass rallies denouncing the U.S. imperialists took place at the seats of South Hwanghae Province, North Phyongan Province and Kangwon Province on the occasion of "June 25, the day of the struggle against U.S. imperialism". Present there were officials of local party and power bodies and working people's organizations, heroes, war veterans, men of merit in the wartime, labor innovators, working people, youth and students.
    Speakers at the rallies said that the Korean war ignited by the U.S. imperialists on June 25, 1950 fully showed their bellicose nature, brutalities and barbarities as aggressors, plunderers as it was a most shameless and brigandish war of aggression unprecedented in human history.
    The Korean army and people defeated the U.S. imperialists and won a great victory in the Fatherland Liberation War under the wise guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea and the leader, they said, warning that if the U.S. imperialists keen on the RIMPAC-2006 joint military exercises aimed to bring a dark cloud of war again, unleash a new war of aggression in this land swimming against the trend of the times, far from drawing a lesson from their defeat in the past Korean war, they will get nothing but death.
    It is foolish if the U.S. thinks that by resorting to high-handed and arbitrary practices and force it can bring to their knees the Korean people who are firmly defending socialism of Juche under the uplifted banner of Songun, they stressed.

Preparatory Committees Inaugurated in Different Countries

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- An inaugural ceremony of the preparatory committee of Democratic Congo for remembering President Kim Il Sung was held in Kinshasa on June 20 under the sponsorship of the Democratic Congo-Korea Friendship and Solidarity Association. Otete Gaston Mboyo, chairman of the association, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee at the ceremony.
    The preparatory committee set a period of remembrance from June 20 to July 10 and decided to organize colorful events in the period.
    Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan preparatory committee for remembering President Kim Il Sung was inaugurated in Colombo on June 19.
    Reggie Ranatunge, chairman of the Sri Lanka-People's Korea Friendship Association and director general of the Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.
    The preparatory committee decided to organize colorful events and print bulletins before and after July 8.

Kim Jong Il's Exploits in Party Building Praised

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- Lectures and a film show were held in Nepal, India and Guinea between June 15 and 19 on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. The chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (United Marxist) in a lecture on the Juche idea said that the Workers' Party of Korea and the people of the DPRK are now firmly defending Korean-style socialism under the outstanding and tested leadership of Kim Jong Il.
    B.C. Gupta, chairman of the Juche Idea Study Society of Delhi, India, in a lecture said that Kim Jong Il has developed the WPK into the party of President Kim Il Sung, the most powerful and dignified revolutionary party in the world for over 40 years.
    The general manager of the Koba Farm of Guinea in a lecture stressed that a brighter future will be open in socialist Korea led by Kim Jong Il.
    A message to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the lecture in Nepal.
    Meanwhile, ten days of Korean film show and photo exhibition were set in a city of Equatorial Guinea on June 13.

Kim Jong Il Highly Praised

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- The British Association for the Study of Songun Policy posted on its Internet homepage several articles with photos showing the revolutionary activities of Kim Jong Il on the occasions of the 42nd anniversary of his start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and the sixth anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. An article titled "Kim Jong Il, Great Man of Century" said it is an immortal exploit that will shine for all ages that he has brought about a leaping advance and a great change in the revolution and construction.
    Under the title "Ever Mounting International Movement for Supporting Korea's Reunification" the homepage carried articles dealing with voices of solidarity for the Korean people's cause of national reunification ringing out worldwide and the struggle for independence against the U.S. raging in south Korea.
    Meanwhile, on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, the Association for Friendship with the Korean People based in Spain on June 11 posted on its Internet homepage "Network for One Korea" articles with photos showing the feats performed by Kim Jong Il for national reunification.

Conservatory Named Kim Won Gyun Pyongyang Conservatory

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- A decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK was promulgated on June 27 to name the conservatory Kim Won Gyun Pyongyang Conservatory in recognition of his great contribution to the development of music in the country. According to the decree, Kim Won Gyun who could fully display his talent and realize his hope under the care of President Kim Il Sung successfully created immortal revolutionary paean "Song of General Kim Il Sung" and "Patriotic Song" (the present National Anthem of the DPRK), thereby making a great contribution to rapidly developing the nation's music right after the liberation of the country. In the subsequent period, too, he made distinguished services for creating famous songs of high ideological and artistic value and training future musicians, it added.
    To name the conservatory, a great seat for education in music in the era of Songun, after the musician whom the Workers' Party of Korea and the people remember is of weighty significance in conveying to posterity the merits of the Korean musicians who dedicated themselves to the Party and the socialist motherland through their worthwhile activities for art creation after being trained under the care of the Party and the leader and in bringing a new heyday in the Juche-based music under the Songun leadership of the Party, the decree stressed.

Russian Dance Company Performs in Wonsan

    Wonsan, June 27 (KCNA) -- The visiting State Academic Moiseyev Folk Dance Company of Russia gave performances in Wonsan on June 26 and 27. Appreciating them were Ko Jong Dok, chairman of the Kangwon Provincial People's Committee, Ju Kyong Jun, secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned, KPA servicepersons, working people and youth and students in the city.
    The colorful program included the Russian dances "Summer", "Partisans", "Small Steppe", the fleet dance suite "A Day on Warship", the Moldovan humorous dance "Tabakeryaska", the Uzbek dance "Dance with a Plate" and the Korean dance "Trio Dance".

Candlelight Rally against Expansion of U.S. Military Base Held in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- The 54th candlelight cultural rally against the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek reportedly took place around "Chongwadae" in Seoul on June 23. Speakers said at the rally that they cannot repress their surging resentment at the "government" ignoring their life-and-death struggle against the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek even though it continued.
    Unpardonable is the sycophantic traitorous act of the "government" intended to leave this land to the mercy of the U.S. forces, indifferent to the existence of the people despite the fact that it is as clear as noonday to turn Phyongthaek into a base for a war of aggression, the speakers stressed.

Collection of Musical Anecdotes "General and Song" Published

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- The Literature and Art Publishing House of the DPRK has brought out a collection of musical anecdotes "General and Song" (vol. one). The collection, which consists of six parts, carries 119 anecdotes about Kim Jong Il's musical politics.
    Given in Part One are anecdotes about how Kim Jong Il composed famous songs including "Bosom of the Motherland" and "Song of Blessing" in his teens.
    Part Two runs moving stories about the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il in making Korean people love the songs eulogizing President Kim Il Sung including "Song of General Kim Il Sung" and "Star of Korea".
    Featured in Part Three are stirring stories telling how the "Song of General Kim Jong Il" was composed and widely disseminated, reflecting the unanimous desire and boundless reverence of the times and the Korean people for him, and anecdotes associated with the creation of a lot of famous songs lauding the Songun era..
    Parts 4,5 and 6 deal with moving anecdotes saying that Kim Jong Il indicated a new way for the development of literature and art, made tireless efforts for it and put wishes and talents of creators and artistes into practice.

New Kinds of Rice Bred

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- Researchers of the Rice Institute under the DPRK Academy of Agriculture have succeeded in breeding and introducing various species of rice suited to the submerged and other areas. The newly bred species of rice are very strong in resistance to rice bacterial leaf blight, helminthosporidium leaf spot of rice and rice-plant fever that are liable to break out in the submerged land. Each species can produce 2.5-3.2 more tons of rice than others per hectare.
    In particular, they can be cultivated without using vinyl sheets in the areas south of Pyongyang to economize large amount of farming materials.
    They do well after other crops in paddy fields, too.
    The new species have already been cultivated in a vast acreage of paddy fields throughout the country, increasing rice output without any additional investment.
    They won the first place in the 21st National Festival of Science and Technology held in May.

Choe Thae Bok Meets Syrian Delegation

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, met and had a friendly talk with the Syria Baath Children Organization delegation led by Chairman Ahmad Abou Musa at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on Wednesday. On the occasion the head of the delegation said that the single-minded unity of the Korean people has been achieved under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
    The unity of the two peoples fighting in the same trench against the common enemy is everlasting though Syria and Korea are geographically far away from each other, he said, adding that the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation would grow stronger.
    Present on the occasion were Kil Chol Hyok, secretary of the C.C., the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, and officials concerned.

Gift to Kim Jong Il from Syria Baath Children Organization

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il was presented with a gift by the Syria Baath Children Organization. The gift was conveyed to Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, on Wednesday by Ahmad Abou Musa, chairman of the Syria Baath Children Organization, on a visit to the DPRK.

Kim Jong Il Inspects Sub-Unit of KPA Unit

    Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected a sub-unit of KPA Unit 823. He went round combat and technical equipment before watching servicepersons in training.
    Praising the servicepersons of the sub-unit for giving full play to the spirit of prizing arms, he said that it is one of the important traditions of the KPA established in the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle to prize and take good care of weapons like the apples of one's eyes.
    Then he looked round the compound of the barracks and entertainment and educational and supply service facilities.
    Hearing a report from commanding officers on how the sideline farming is being done, he called for bringing about a fresh boost in this year's sideline farming to reap a bumper harvest.
    Now that the rainy season is just ahead it is necessary for the sub-unit to take a thorough-going measure so that its servicepersons may not feel even the slightest inconvenience in their living, he noted.

    Pyongyang, 28 de junio (ATCC) -- Quedo constituido el dia 20 en Kinshasa el comite preparatorio del Congo Democratico para la Recordacion al Presidente Kim Il Sung bajo auspicios de la Asociacion de Amistad y Solidaridad Congo Democratico-Corea. 　Como presidente del comite naciente fue electo Otete Gaston Umboyo, presidente de la citada asociacion.
    　La entidad fijo del 20 de junio al 10 de julio como periodo de recordacion y decidio organizar variadas actividades.
    　Por otra parte, fue nacido el dia 19 en Colombo el Comite Preparatorio de Sri Lanka para la Recordacion al Presidente Kim Il Sung.

Nuevas variedades de arroz

    Pyongyang, 28 de junio (ATCC) -- El Instituto de Arroz de la Academia de Ciencias Agricolas de Corea acabo de crear y aplico diversas variedades de arroz que posibilitan rendir 2.5-3.2 toneladas mas por hectarea en la tierra inundada y algunas zonas por la fuerte resistencia al marchitamiento de hojas blancas y granosas. 　Las nuevas especies permiten ahorrar en gran medida los materiales agricolas con la posibilidad de aplicarlas en las zonas al sur de Pyongyang sin uso de capa de polietileno y obtener alto rendimiento por hectarea en caso de aplicarlas para la segunda cosecha.
    　Ya se introdujeron en una gran extension arrocera del pais.
