19th Inter-Korean Ministerial Talks Open

    Pusan, July 12 (KCNA Correspondent) -- The 19th north-south ministerial talks opened in Pusan, south Korea on July 12. Present at the talks from the north side were members of the delegation headed by Chief Councilor of the Cabinet Kwon Ho Ung and suite members and from the south side members of the delegation with Minister of Unification Ri Jong Sok as chief delegate and suite members.
    Keynote speeches were made at the talks.
    The head of the north side's delegation spoke about the need for both sides to have an in-depth discussion on realistic and significant ways for substantial progress in the north-south relations and prove the talks fruitful before the nation, before advancing a series of proposals reflecting the north side's principled stand on immediate pending issues between the two sides.
    Firstly, he suggested the north and the south to allow unrestricted visits to holy places and scenic spots symbolic of each other's system and dignity and visitors' destinations, provided that they recognize and respect each other's ideology and system.
    He proposed that the south side should no longer restrict visits to holy places and scenic spots in the areas of the north side by the south side's delegation to the upcoming August 15 grand festival for national reunification due in Pyongyang as a practical measure of recognizing and respecting each other's ideology and system and pulling down the last barrier symbolic of the stand-off between the two sides in terms of systems.
    Secondly, he urged the south side to stop joint military exercises with outside forces in order to prevent a war and ensure peace on the Korean Peninsula.
    He once again urged the south side to completely halt all the joint military exercises with foreign forces from next year which will mark the 7th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration with a view to ensuring peace and providing a guarantee for peaceful reunification with the independent force of the nation.
    Thirdly, he called for the repeal of the "National Security Law", which runs counter to the June 15 joint declaration and lays a stumbling block in the way of national reconciliation and unity.
    Fourthly, he proposed putting compatriotism and humanitarian aid on a higher stage, guided by the idea of "By our nation itself."
    He underscored the need to promptly settle pending issues high on the agenda on which both sides agreed in principle at the last ministerial talks and arrange reunion at Mt. Kumgang Resort and video meetings between separated families and relatives on the occasion of upcoming harvest moon day and thus give further momentum to the atmosphere of humanitarian cooperation between the north and the south.

Hu Jintao on Sino-DPRK Friendship

    Beijing, July 11 (KCNA) -- Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of the People's Republic of China, elaborated on Sino-DPRK friendship when meeting the DPRK friendship delegation led by Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Tuesday. The delegation is paying an official goodwill visit to China to participate in the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of the signing of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. Welcoming the China visit of the delegation on behalf of the Chinese party, government and people, he said:
    It is helpful to further boosting the traditional Sino-DPRK friendship and promoting the bilateral friendly and cooperative ties for the two countries to exchange delegations to participate in the celebrations on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the signing of the treaty.

    I was accorded a hospitable treatment by the party, the government and the people of the DPRK when I visited it in October last year.
    In January this year, General Secretary Kim Jong Il paid another successful visit to China.

    When I visited the DPRK in October last year, I witnessed new successes made by the Korean people in advancing along the road of development corresponding to their specific conditions under the leadership of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

    I think the two countries can build their countries well, learning from each other and exchanging their experiences.

Reception Given in Beijing to Mark Treaty Anniversary

    Beijing, July 11 (KCNA) -- The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-Korea Friendship Association hosted a reception in Beijing on July 11 to mark the 45th anniversary of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.     Li Shuzheng in her speech said that President Kim Il Sung and Premier Zhou Enlai signed the treaty 45 years ago, thus codifying in a treaty form the deep friendship between the peoples of the two countries forged in the protracted revolutionary struggle and socialist construction. Since then the treaty has served as a common principle to govern the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, she added.
    General Secretary Hu Jintao paid a successful official goodwill visit to the DPRK in October last year and General Secretary Kim Jong Il paid an unofficial visit to China again early this year, she noted, stressing that their visits helped further promote the mutual understanding, trust and friendship between the two countries.
    Pointing out that it is the invariable policy of the Communist Party and government of China and the genuine desire of the Chinese people to consolidate and develop the traditional Sino-Korean friendship, she said that the Chinese people together with the Korean comrades will as ever make sustained efforts to carry forward and glorify the Sino-Korean friendship in the basic spirit of the above-said treaty.

Kim Yong Dae Meets Chinese Delegation

    Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Dae, vice-president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, met and had a friendly talk with a delegation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-Korea Friendship Association led by Chairman of the people's association Chen Haosu on a visit to the DPRK to participate in the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance at the Mansudae Assembly Hall on July 12.     Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK Wu Donghe gave a reception at the embassy on Tuesday on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the conclusion of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. Present on invitation were Choe Thae Bok, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yong Dae, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, Kim Su Hak, minister of Public Health and chairman of the Central Committee of the Korea-China Friendship Association, and others and officials concerned.
    Present there were Hui Liangyu, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and vice-premier of the State Council of China, who is heading the Chinese friendship delegation, members of the delegation and other members, a delegation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-Korea Friendship Association led by Chairman of the people's association Chen Haosu and officials of the Chinese embassy.
    The ambassador said in a speech that leaders of the elder generation of the two countries including Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai and President Kim Il Sung worked heart and soul to develop the Sino-Korean friendly and cooperative relations in their lifetime after providing the bilateral friendship.

Japan's Drive for Its Conversion into Military Power and Overseas Expansion Blasted

    Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- Japan's ambition for its conversion into a military power and overseas expansion comes under fire in Rodong Sinmun Wednesday. Pointing to the fact that the United States and Japan recently agreed to deploy improved "Patriot" interceptor missiles in the U.S. military base in Okinawa, Japan and, accordingly, send additional U.S. forces and signed, some time ago, an agreement on the expansion of the ballistic missile defense program, the analyst says:
    Now the U.S. and Japan have got into full stride in their efforts to realize integration in a number of military fields involving the command and control of the U.S. forces in Japan and the Japan "Self-Defense Forces", their communication systems, the development of new arms technologies, and their production and deployment.
    It is the intention of the United States to achieve its aggressive and dominationist aims in the region with Japan as the military springboard.
    The point is the acts of the Japanese reactionary ruling quarters. The Japanese people have suffered a lot at the hand of the U.S. forces present in Japan and so the voices demanding the pullout of the U.S. forces are growing louder. The Japanese reactionary ruling quarters, however, offer larger portions of the land of Japan to the U.S. as its operational base and supply base.
    They are out to achieve their ambition for making Japan a military power and for overseas expansion at any cost with the patronage of the United States. To this end, Japan carries out obediently what its senior ally wants, as a political servant and a war stooge. Winning the favor of the U.S., its master, by blindly following and yielding to it, Japan is running about with increasing frenzy to gratify its ambition, while raising more terrific outcries for a tighter alliance with the U.S. as the days go by.
    The DPRK is the first target of the reinvasion of the Japanese militarist forces. They are kicking and struggling to jump onto the road of reinvasion of Korea, pulling the war chariot of the U.S. imperialists.
    But Japan should know that reinvasion will lead it directly to self-destruction.

President Kim Il Sung Remembered in Different Countries

    Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- Remembrance meetings were held in Egypt, Switzerland, Bangladesh and Ethiopia from June 28 to July 5 on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of demise of President Kim Il Sung. Exhibited in the venues of meetings were famous works of the President and General Secretary Kim Jong Il and photos showing their immortal revolutionary exploits.
    Youssef Amin Wali, vice-chairman of the National Democratic Party of Egypt, stressed at the meeting that eternal President Kim Il Sung was a close friend of the progressive people of the world.
    Martin Lotscher, chairman of the Swiss Committee for Supporting Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, said at the meeting that Kim Il Sung is the benevolent father of the Korean nation who is praised as the sun of Juche. Kim Jong Il is pursuing the Songun policy by brilliantly carrying forward his revolutionary cause, the chairman noted, stressing that the Korean people will certainly reunify their country under his leadership.
    A message to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the remembrance meeting in Switzerland.

Floral Baskets Sent to DPRK Embassy in Lima

    Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- The DPRK embassy in Lima received floral baskets from officials of political parties and organizations of Peru on July 7 and 8 on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of demise of President Kim Il Sung. Workers' Rally against FTA Negotiations Held in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- A "national rally of workers for checking negotiations on the conclusion of FTA" was reportedly held on University Road of Seoul on July 8. It brought together upwards of 5,000 workers under the Federation of south Korean Trade Unions.
    The workers in a resolution declared that they would wage a powerful struggle including a general strike for the vital rights of the people.
    An action program was made public at the rally.

Russian Ensemble Gives Premiere in Wonsan

    Wonsan, July 11 (KCNA) -- The visiting Academy Ensemble of the Interior Unit of the Russian Ministry of Interior gave its premiere in the port city of Wonsan on Tuesday. The ensemble known well to the Korean people as a prestigious art troupe put on the stage colorful numbers it prepared in a peculiar manner.
    In their repertoire including a chorus and orchestra "Workers in Wartime", a national instrumental music solo "Russian Folk Game" and male solos and choruses "A Flock of Cranes" and "Evening in Moscow Suburbs" the artistes represented the wartime struggle of the Russian people and soldiers and their optimistic life with dynamic and rich voice and high artistry.

Hydrometeorological Information Service in DPRK

    Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- The Hydrometeorological Information Center under the Hydrometeorological Service of the DPRK serves meteorological information to relevant institutions and regions, on the basis of meteorological data observed over the last 50-odd years. The accuracy of the information on average temperature, accumulated temperature, surface temperature, wind velocity, precipitation and windstorm of the relevant regions is over 97 percent.
    The center has developed a service program so as to render data swiftly and serves hydro-meteorological information in various forms, thus contributing to the development of the general national economy.
    The center, which started working over ten years ago, hourly records the data sent by the meteorological, hydrological and oceanographic observatories across the country and the satellite, radar and aerological observation data and renders them to the relevant units.
    It regularly makes public through data, publications and radio at the request of the agricultural, electric power, fishery, marine and railway transport sectors.
    Besides, it supplies data on the time of thawing of the ground according to the depths of the soil, ecological features of farm crops at each stage, the water current volume according to seasons and its change, all the hydrometeorological and oceanographic data for fishing and marine transportation.

    Pyongyang, July 12 (KCNA) -- Scientists of the IC Institute under the State Academy of Sciences of the DPRK have given a good account of themselves in solving pressing scientific and technical problems. Recently they have made an efficient portable welder.
    The welder is an inverse transformation one, which is made of transistors with big output. It is applicable to any objects of the AC welder and DC arc welder.
    It is light and simple to operate. And its welding quality is better than those of other kinds of welders.
    The scientists have developed a device for reliably protecting electric motors from short-circuit and single-phase phenomena, over-current, fall of mains frequency.
    They succeeded in developing cyanogen ion selective electrode and made a portable digital cyanogen densitometer.
    The densitometer is capable of rapidly and correctly measuring the density of cyanogen ion in aqueous solution. It is applicable to automatically controlling the process of using cyanide.
    Induction furnace protection system made by the scientists also is paying off at production sites.
    The protection system has been applied to low-, medium- and high-frequency induction furnaces, preventing various accidents and saving a large amount of funds.

Rodong Sinmun denuncia la ambicion expansionista de Japon

    Pyongyang, 12 de julio (ATCC) -- El rotativo Rodong Sinmun publico este miercoles un comentario individual denunciando las maniobras de Japon para erigirse como una potencia militar y su ambicion expansionista a ultramar. Recientemente, Estados Unidos y Japon acordaron desplegar los misiles antibalisticos tipo "PAC-3" y mas efectivos gringos en la base de estos en Okinawa, Japon, recuerda el comentarista y prosigue:
    Ademas, ambos paises concertaron un convenio sobre la ampliacion del plan de defensa de misiles balisticos.
    De otro lado, trabajan intensamente para identificarse en varios terrenos militares como el mando y administracion de las tropas norteamericanas en Japon y las "fuerzas de autodefensa", el sistema de comunicaciones, el desarrollo, la produccion y el despliegue de nuevas armas.
    EE.UU. pretende utilizar a Japon como trampolin militar para alcanzar su meta agresiva y dominacionista en la region.
    Lo mas problematico es el procedimiento de los gobernantes reaccionarios japoneses quienes convierten el suelo japones en la base operacional y el arsenal cada vez mas grandes de EE.UU., pese a la fuerte voz de los habitantes japoneses, quienes sufren incontables perdidas por la presencia de las tropas norteamericanas, demandando la retirada de estas.
    A fin de convertirse en una potencia militar y llevar a la realidad su ambicion expansionista bajo el amparo de EE.UU., Japon cumple docilmente todos los mandados de este aliado de jerarquia superior como si fuera su criado en terreno politico y fiel ejecutor de la politica belicista norteamericana.
    Ademas, aunque practica el servilismo a ciegas y la sumision a EE.UU. para agradarle bien, el pais-isla aboga cada dia mas por reforzar la alianza con el primero.
    No cabe duda de que la RPDC sera el primer objetivo de nueva agresion por parte de las fuerzas militaristas de Japon, porque estas maniobran desesperadamente para reagredirla con el respaldo de los imperialistas yanquis.
    Pero, el pais isleno debe darse clara cuenta de que ese camino lo conducira a la autodestruccion.

Nuevos exitos en la Academia Estatal de Ciencias de Corea

    Pyongyang, 12 de julio (ATCC) -- Los cientificos del Instituto de Circuito Integral de la Academia Estatal de Ciencias de Corea alcanzan exitos al empenarse por resolver los problemas cientifico-tecnicos de gran prioridad en la realidad. 　Ultimamente, inventaron una soldadora portatil de gran eficiencia y simple en su modo de funcionamiento.
    　Es un mecanismo de transformacion inversa hecho con el transistor triodo de gran potencia, correspondiente a la tendencia del desarrollo de aparatos electronicos usables en la industria electrica. Se usa como una soldadora de corriente alterada o directa en las unidades necesitadas de este tipo de trabajo.

    Pyongyang, 12 de julio (ATCC) -- El Centro de Informaciones Meteorologicas e Hidrologicas, adscrito a la Direccion Meteorologica e Hidrologica de Corea, se dispone de una base de informaciones registradas durante mas de 50 anos ultimos y ofrece datos necesarios a los demandantes. La temperatura de promedio, la acumulada, la de superficie terrestre, el viento, la precipitacion y la tempestad que acontecen en cada region y otros datos cientificos marcan el 97 % de exactitud.
    El centro, fundado hace mas de 10 anos, renovo el sistema de servicios al desarrollar un programa capaz de ofrecer rapida y correctamente las informaciones y diversifica su trabajo para contribuir al desarrollo de la economia del pais en su conjunto.
    Esta entidad se encarga de archivar por cada momento los datos enviados por los observatorios meteorologicos, hidrologicos y maritimos del pais, los materiales de satelites y radares y los resultados de observacion de la atmosfera superior para distribuirlos luego a las ramas correspondientes.
    Desarrolla el servicio regular mediante los documentos, publicaciones y radios a peticion de varios dominios como la agricultura, la generacion electrica, la pesqueria, el transporte maritimo y el ferroviario.
