Ulji Focus Lens Termed Prelude to Military Attack on DPRK

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Anti-Imperialist National Democratic Front in a statement on July 31 denounced the United States and the south Korean trigger-happy forces for having planned to stage the Ulji Focus Lens large-scale joint military exercises, according to Internet site Kuguk Jonson. Recalling that recently the south Korea-U.S. "Combined Forces Command" officially announced that it would stage Ulji Focus Lens in south Korea from August 21 to September 1, the statement branded this as a blatant challenge to the desire of the whole nation and a prelude to a military attack on the north.
    The U.S. is seeking to justify its war moves while talking about "threat" of the north's military power for self-defence but it can neither conceal its belligerent nature nor shirk off the responsibility for having escalated the tension on this land and disturbed its peace, the statement noted.
    It demanded the present south Korean authorities stop at once all the joint military exercises with the U.S., well aware that joining the aggressors in their war moves is a crime against the nation.

S. Korean Cardinal's Pro-U.S. Sycophantic Remarks under Fire

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification reportedly issued a commentary on July 27 denouncing Cardinal Kim Su Hwan's undisguised pro-U.S. sycophantic remarks. Recalling that the cardinal let loose a string of pro-U.S. sycophantic outcries in an "interview" with heavyweights of the Grand National Party of south Korea that the south Korea-U.S. alliance should remain alive and the U.S. support is necessary and that the present development would be unthinkable without the U.S. backing, the commentary said:
    His remarks are lashing people from all walks of life aspiring after independence and reunification into fury. The U.S. infiltrated USS Sherman into Korea long ago, revealing its attempt at aggression of the Korean Peninsula and split of the Korean nation.
    His outcries have a thread of connection with those of the U.S. and the pro-U.S. conservative forces including the GNP.
    The commentary urged the cardinal not to leave a blot in history by making pro-U.S. sycophantic remarks going against the times but to turn out in the movement for independent reunification of the nation.

All-out Anti-U.S. Actions Declared in S. Korea

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Reunification Solidarity reportedly held a press conference for declaring the July 27-August 15 period of all-out struggle in front of the U.S. embassy in Seoul on July 27. At the press conference speakers referred to the fact that the U.S. is becoming all the more undisguised in its moves for aggression against the north. They demanded the U.S. lift economic sanctions against the north and totally stop its moves to relocate its aggression forces in south Korea.
    They fixed the period from July 27 to August 15 a period of all-out actions and declared they would conduct positive activities to force the U.S. to drop its hostile policy toward the north, check the conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and frustrate the moves for the expansion of the U.S. military base in Phyongthaek in this period.
    They said that in the period they would conduct brisk actions including rallies, all-people meetings and anti-U.S. rallies throughout south Korea.

S. Korean Authorities' Act of Treachery under Fire

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities decided to take over 15 military bases of the occupation forces with their environment remaining polluted and cover all the costs for their depollution at the recent 9th south Korea-U.S. "meeting on security policy initiative," yielding to the U.S. pressure. Commenting on it, newspapers today say that this cannot but be a foolish act of hurting the national dignity of the Koreans as it reveals the authorities' servile attitude towards the U.S.
    No one can expect any principled and dignified behavior from the south Korean authorities still subservient to the U.S., Rodong Sinmun notes, and goes on:
    They have kicked off a noisy racket against the DPRK, making virulent remarks about the north defending the security of the whole nation including south Korea with Songun, caving in to the pressure from their American master. Not content with this, they acted so mean as to stop even meager humanitarian aid. This shows how slavish they are before the foreign aggressors.
    Anyone bereft of independence does not hesitate to stoop to such infamy as sacrificing the dignity and interests of the nation to serve the outsiders.
    The south Koreans from all walks of life should never tolerate the flunkeyist authorities' treachery but wage a dynamic struggle to force the U.S. imperialist aggression troops to quit south Korea to the last man and dismantle their military bases there as they have been the root cause of all evils and misfortune.
    Minju Joson says that it is intolerable shame and disgrace for the south Koreans to cover even the cost for the depollution of those bases used by the aggressors for more than six decades after depriving south Koreans of their cradles.

U.S. Stepped-up Moves for Establishment of MD under Fire

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The U.S. moves to establish the missile defence system (MD) are posing a threat to the global peace and security and sparking off a new arms race. Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed commentary, which discloses the U.S. cunning criminal plot to push forward the establishment of the MD, while raising a hue and cry over the "protection" of its "security" and allies from someone's "threat".
    Many countries in the world have taken necessary measures to cope with the MD, the commentary notes, and goes on:
    Different countries including Russia and China are exerting efforts to equip themselves with ultra-modern hardware capable of countering U.S. missile attacks. Those countries exposed to the direct threat of the U.S., in particular, are bolstering their military capabilities. Military spending is sharply increasing and the production and export of arms are on the steady rise worldwide. This is chiefly attributable to the U.S. arms buildup and its escalated moves for a war of aggression including the establishment of the MD.
    With nothing can the U.S. cover up its true colors as the chief criminal encouraging and escalating the new arms race and harassing global peace and security. The U.S. MD targeting against the whole world, as U.S. ruling quarters admit, is not helpful to its security but will only result in the appearance of thousands of missiles targeting on the U.S.
    The U.S. would be well advised to drop its wild ambition for dominating the world and give up the MD.

Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Work Marked

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates an article to the 32nd anniversary of Kim Jong Il's famous work in which he called for dynamically pushing ahead with the drive to model the whole society on the Juche idea through the radical improvement of the Party work. Kim Jong Il in his work published on August 2, Juche 63 (1974) put forward the unique Party-building policy of modeling the whole Party on the Juche idea. He clarified all the principled issues arising in building the Juche-oriented party ranging from the issue of more thoroughly establishing the monolithic ideological system of the Party and consolidating the Party and the revolutionary ranks politically and ideologically to the issue of strengthening the Party's guidance to the socialist economic construction and improving the Party's work system and methods.

Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il's Songun Leadership Feats Praised

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- Meeting, seminars and photo exhibition were held in Poland and Uganda on July 25 and 26 on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War. Chairman of the Union of Polish People's Army Roman Orszewski said at the meeting that in the last Korean war the U.S. imperialists suffered a bitter defeat for the first time in history and knelt down before the heroic Korean People's Army and people led by President Kim Il Sung.
    Speakers at the seminars held by the Group for the Study of the Juche Idea of Comrade Kim Il Sung of the Old Kampala Higher Middle School and the Group for the Study of Songun Politics of the Kampala Coloro Higher Middle School of Uganda said that the DPRK defeated the U.S. which boasted of being "the strongest" in the world. Art Performance Given by Korean Children in Mongolia

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The Fifth East Asian Children's Art Festival took place in Ulaan Baatar between July 27 and 29. The festival sponsored by the UNESCO was attended by children from different countries and regions of East Asia including the DPRK, China and Mongolia.
    Prior to the festival, the Pyongyang schoolchildren's art troupe gave a performance at the Central Palace of Culture on July 26 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Mongolia visit of President Kim Il Sung and the 53rd anniversary of the victory of the Korean people in the Fatherland Liberation War.
    The troupe performed at the opening ceremony of the festival on July 27.
    It presented colorful numbers such as choruses "Song of General Kim Il Sung" and "Song of General Kim Jong Il," Kayagum solo "Our Country Is Best", dances "Drum Dance Celebrating Festival" and "Fan and Bell", female solo "Our Classmates," solo dance "Dance of Pink" and Mongolian songs "My Mother" and "Warm Motherland."
    The director general of the UNESCO said that the participation of the Pyongyang schoolchildren's art troupe in the festival made the festival more meaningful, stressing that its performance mesmerized the audience by displaying rare artistic skill and truthfully representing the lifestyle, thoughts and feelings of the Koreans.
    The honorary ambassador of the UNESCO noted that national culture has made great progress in the DPRK, adding that national culture is greeting its great heyday in the DPRK as Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, has shown particular care for the preservation of national cultural heritages and folk arts.
    The minister of Education, Culture and Science of Mongolia said:
    The performance given by the DPRK troupe is the best among the participating art troupes.
    The solo dance presented by a seven-year-old child, in particular, baffles human imagination. Such wit can be produced only in the DPRK enforcing a wise educational policy.
    In the meantime, the performance of the Pyongyang schoolchildren's art troupe was introduced by the TV broadcasting service of Mongolia.

Central Zoo, Center for Cultural and Emotional Life

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- Thousands of working people and school children visit the Central Zoo at the foot of Mt. Taesong in Pyongyang every day. They enjoy their cultural and emotional life, viewing Korean and foreign animals including elephants, monkeys and pet dogs.
    More than 5,000 animals of over 650 species inhabit the zoo. They, disposed to their natural classification and ecological features, include rare animals sent to President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il as gifts by heads of states and prominent political, public, scientific and cultural figures of foreign countries.
    The zoo, covering more than a hundred hectares, consists of zoological garden of game reserve form for beneficial animals such as deer and roe deer, playground for the animals, water-bird and fish-breeding ponds, an aquarium and 50-odd buildings for elephants, raptorial birds, songbirds, aquatic birds and other animals.
    There are in the zoo grounds for animal feats, woods covered with various kinds of trees, flower gardens, welfare service and amusement facilities.
    The zoo was opened in April Juche 48 (1959) on the initiative of President Kim Il Sung who had regarded the people as his God throughout his life.

Brisk Rural Housing Construction in Pyongyang

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- Projects for face-lifting rural villages in commensuration with the socialist society have been undertaken in Pyongyang. This year more than 650 modern rural dwelling houses have been built in the Haksan Co-op Farm in Hyongjesan District, the Thaekam Co-op Farm in Sunan District and other co-op farms in different districts of the city. Now they are occupied by peasants.
    Each household has two rooms, a vestibule, a kitchen, a washroom, a pen and a storehouse.
    Methane gas producers have been set up in back yards of houses and villages so that people can cook rice with gas.
    More than five fruit trees including apricot, jujube and grape-vine have been planted around each house, adding beauty to the surrounding landscape.
    Meanwhile, projects for the reconstruction and repair of houses have been pushed ahead with in districts and counties including Ryokpho District and Sangwon County.
    The outer walls of 410 apartment buildings for some 750 households have been plastered and decorated. They were roofed with colored tiles and their walls colorfully painted.
    Thirty-eight public buildings of 1,500 square meters including creches, kindergartens, shops and welfare service facilities have been constructed. And 70 buildings of 2,700 square meters have been reconstructed and repaired, changing the looks of more than ten ris.

Greetings to Macedonian President

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme Peoplefs Assembly, Wednesday sent a message of greetings to Branko Crvenkovski, president of Macedonia, on the occasion of its national day. The message sincerely wished the Macedonian president great success in his work for the countryfs prosperity, expressing the belief that the relations between the two countries would grow stronger in the mutual interests.

GNP's Fascist Act Assailed

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The south Korean ultra-right conservative forces including the Grand National Party unreasonably took issue with the National Teachers Union over its teaching materials on reunification, linking them with the north. The Secretariat of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland in its information bulletin No. 920 issued Wednesday in this connection dismissed this as fascist rowdyism going against the times.
    The bulletin said:
    The GNP of south Korea blustered that the Pusan regional branch of the union applied the north's view on history, beautifying it including its Songun politics and the June 25 war when making materials on reunification for teachers last October. It cried out for making thorough investigation and resolutely countering it by invoking the existing law, asserting that teachers with pro-north view on history are likely to infuse a wrong view on history into the students.
    It is illogical and anachronistic to talk about "pro-north biased view" and an "act of embellishing someone's view on history" in the June 15 era when all the Koreans are heading for reconciliation, unity and reunification irrespective of ideology under the banner of "By our nation itself."
    Neither genuine education nor harmony and reunification of the nation are thinkable as long as there remain such leftovers of the era of Cold War confrontation as the GNP which challenges justice and patriotism, violating the freedom to discuss reunification and conduct academic activities.
    The south Koreans from all walks of life should resolutely throw overboard the GNP, a group of good-for-nothing anti-reunification elements, and other traitors sowing seeds of discord and alienation and inciting confrontation among compatriots.

Japan Urged to Withdraw Step to Cancel Tax Exemption

    Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The Kanagawa Prefectural Headquarters of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) held a press conference in connection with the fact that the mayor of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, on July 24 cancelled the step to exempt the facilities related to Chongryon from the payment of fixed property and city planning taxes, according to Joson Sinbo, the organ of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon. A written request addressed to the mayor of Yokohama which was read out at the press conference said that it was a very rude act for Yokohama city to have unilaterally cancelled the exemption step in violation of laws and regulations.
    The mayor should immediately withdraw the unjust step taken to cancel the tax exemption for the Korean Hall, it held, demanding the Japanese government take positive steps to prevent outcries, violence and threats against Koreans in Japan.

    Pyongyang, 2 de agosto (ATCC) -- En la recien celebrada "IX reunion para el proyecto de la politica de seguridad" Surcorea-Estados Unidos, las autoridades surcoreanas, obedeciendo a tal demanda del imperio, decidieron recibir 15 bases contaminadas de las tropas norteamericanas ocupantes del Sur de Corea y sufragar hasta los gastos de descontaminacion. Los periodicos capitalinos, en sus ediciones del dia 2, senalan que tal acto humillante afecta seriamente la dignidad nacional.
    El periodico Rodong Sinmun en un comentario individual senala:
    Nadie podra esperar actos dignos de los gobernantes surcoreanos porque estas toman la decision escudrinando la intencion de su amo.
    Doblegados por la presion de su amo norteamericano, ellas acusan con malicia a la Republica Popular Democratica de Corea que con el Songun (priorizacion militar) preserva la seguridad de toda la nacion incluyendo el Sur de Corea e incluso suspenden la asistencia humanitaria miserable que venian brindando a ella.
    Carentes de la independencia cometen sin escrupulos los actos absurdos de vender la dignidad e intereses de la nacion a las fuerzas foraneas.
    Los habitantes de distintos sectores del Sur de Corea no deben tolerar los actos traidores de las autoridades serviles a las grandes potencias y desarrollar con valentia la lucha por hacer retirar a todos los uniformados norteamericanos agresivos de la parte Sur de la Peninsula Coreana y desmantelar sus bases militares que son fuente de todas las maldades y desgracias.
    El comentarista del periodico Minju Joson senala que es una verguenza e ignominia intolerable para los habitantes surcoreanos el hecho de que estos se ven obligados a sufragar hasta los gastos de recuperacion medioambiental de las contaminadas bases militares norteamericanas al cabo de haber vivido mas de 60 anos siendo objeto de toda clase de maltratos y humillaciones.

Rodong Sinmun denuncia sistema antimisiles de EE.UU.

    Pyongyang, 2 de agosto (ATCC) -- Estados Unidos habla mucho de la "seguridad" de su pais y la "proteccion" de su aliado desde la "amenaza" de alguien y promueve con celeridad el establecimiento del sistema antimisiles perturbando la paz y seguridad del mundo y acarreando la nueva carrera armamentista. Asi senala el diario Rodong Sinmun en un comentario individual del dia 2 y continua:
    En estos momentos muchos paises del mundo toman las medidas militares para hacer frente a las maniobras de establecimiento de tal sistema.
    Rusia, China y otros paises encauzan las fuerzas a disponer de armamentos sofisticados para hacer frente al ataque de misiles de EE.UU. En particular los paises que reciben la amenaza militar directa del imperio prestan atencion a fortalecer la capacidad de defensa nacional. El incremento colosal de los gastos militares y el aumento de la produccion y exportacion de armas en el ambito mundial se deben enteramente al establecimiento del sistema antimisiles, el aumento armamentista y la preparacion de la guerra de agresion de EE.UU.
    Con nada EE.UU. podra ocultar su verdadera naturaleza de generador de la nueva carrera armamentista y de perturbador de la paz y seguridad del mundo. El establecimiento del citado sistema, que toma por el blanco al mundo, no contribuira a la preservacion de la seguridad de su pais como lo dice la capa dominante norteamericana sino solo generara centenares y miles de misiles dirigidos a si mismo. El imperio debe abandonar su ambicion de dominio al mundo y desistir de su intento criminal.

FDNA denuncia "Ulji Focus Lens"

    Pyongyang, 2 de agosto (ATCC) -- Segun el sitio web del Internet "Frente de Salvacion Nacional", el portavoz del Frente Democratico Nacional Antiimperialista (FDNA) denuncio en su declaracion fechada 31 de julio el simulacro conjunto de gran envergadura "Ulji Focus Lens" que acordaron desplegar Estados Unidos y las fuerzas belicistas del Sur de Corea. Recientemente, la "comandancia de las fuerzas conjuntas" surcoreano-norteamericanas anuncio oficialmente su decision de desarrollarlo del 21 de agosto al primero de septiembre en el suelo surcoreano, recuerda el documento y prosigue:
    @Estas maniobras significan un desafio frontal a la aspiracion de toda la nacion coreana y un preludio de la invasion armada contra el Norte de Corea.
    Por mucho que EE.UU. intente justificar sus maniobras belicistas catalogando de una supuesta "amenaza" a las fuerzas armadas del Norte de Corea para la autodefensa, nunca podra ocultar su naturaleza agresiva ni evadir la responsabilidad de haber agravado la tension y perturbado la paz en la tierra patria.
    Las actuales autoridades surcoreanas deben darse clara cuenta de que adherirse a las maniobras belicistas de los agresores foraneos es un crimen antinacional y abstenerse ahora mismo de todos los ejercicios militares junto con EE.UU.

Parque Zoologico Nacional - centro de vida cultural del pueblo coreano

    Pyongyang, 2 de agosto (ATCC) -- El Parque Zoologico Nacional enclavado al pie del monte Taesong es uno de los lugares mas concurridos de esta capital. @Acoge diariamente a miles de trabajadores de diferentes estratos, jovenes y ninos escolares quienes pasan agradables ratos con elefantes, monos, perros y otros animales oriundos de Corea o procedentes de varios paises del mundo.
    Clasificados segun sus caracteristicas familiares y ecologicas, habitan ahi mas de 5 mil animales de mas de 650 especies, incluso los raros obsequiados al Presidente Kim Il Sung y al Dirigente Kim Jong Il por los jefes de Estado y personalidades celebres de circulos politico, social, cientifico y cultural de diferentes latitudes del orbe.
    En el area de mas de 100 hectareas del zoologico, estan acondicionados un parque natural en forma de zona vedada para los venados utiles como ciervo y corzo, mas de 50 edificaciones para el disfrute visual como acuario, jaulas de aves rapaces, cantoras y acuaticas y establo de elefantes, unos campos de juego para los animales y lagunas de crianza de peces y pajaros acuaticos.
    Ademas, saltan a la vista un lugar para adiestrar las habilidades de animales, los bosques y jardines donde crecen arboles y flores de todo tipo y otras instalaciones de servicios publicos y de recreacion.
    El Parque Zoologico Nacional se inauguro en abril del 48 (1959) de la Era Juche por la iniciativa del Presidente Kim Il Sung quien tenia como maxima de toda su vida la idea "Iminwichon" (considerar al pueblo como el cielo).
