Senior Party and State Officials Congratulate Young People
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- Senior party and state officials of the DPRK congratulated young people Monday on the Youth Day.
Kim Yong Nam, Choe Thae Bok, Yang Hyong Sop, Choe Yong Rim, Kim Ki Nam, Kim Jung Rin, vice-Premiers of the Cabinet, and leading officials of local party and power bodies and working people's organizations visited the Pyongyang Thermal-power Complex, Kim Il Sung University, the Youth Work Team of the Phyongam Co-op Farm in Koksan County, North Hwanghae Province, the Taean Friendship Glass Factory in South Phyongan Province, the construction site of the Paektusan Songun Youth Power Station and other units to participate in celebrations of the Youth Day.
They together with young people laid floral baskets and bouquets before the statues of President Kim Il Sung standing at relevant units and went round the monuments to the revolutionary activities of the three generals of Mt. Paektu, monuments to their field guidance teachings and words, and rooms introducing the history of relevant units and others.
They appreciated art performances representing the proud appearance of young vanguard of Songun, participated in sports and amusement games and dancing parties, pleasing the young people. They also met exemplary officials of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, young heroes and innovators and encouraged them to perform greater exploits in building a great prosperous powerful nation true to the Party's Songun leadership.
Politics of Attaching Importance to Youth Initiated by President Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) --The Youth Day, which falls on August 28, is being significantly observed in the DPRK.
The youth of the DPRK have fully displayed their dignity and honor as the young vanguard in the Songun era and successors to the Juche revolutionary cause.
The reliable youth, the pride of the nation, are unthinkable apart from the politics of giving preference to the youth affairs originated by President Kim Il Sung.
It is the youth-centered politics, which brings up the youth as dependable successors to the revolution, makes them pace-setters in all work and raises their vanguard role in the revolution and construction so as to defend and vigorously carry on the revolutionary cause of Songun.
The President, who embarked upon the road of revolution in his teens, directed great attention to the issue as regards the vanguard which would shoulder the future Korean revolution while fathering the immortal Juche idea.
He penetrated deep into the good disposition of youth who are hot-blooded and sensitive to the new and defy death for justice and truth.
He, basing himself of this, advanced the idea of attaching importance to the youth who can display matchless courage in the revolutionary struggle as the vanguard of the revolution when they are awakened and organized.
With the formation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU) in October 1926, he raised the anchor of the Korean revolution. And he organized the Young Communist League of Korea, the vanguard organization in August 1927, to guide all the anti-Japanese mass organizations in a unified way.
Having founded the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army with young revolutionaries of new generation as its backbone on April 25, Juche 21 (1932), he launched the war against the Japanese imperialists and thus achieved the historical cause of national liberation.
During the hard-fought anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, the President, looking ahead to the distant future of revolution, set forth the slogan "Love the future!" And he had provided best things to the children in his lifetime. His warm love for the children and youth produced a lot of legends.
His youth-centered politics is being successfully carried forward by Kim Jong Il.
It is entirely thanks to the politics that the red flag of revolution continues to flutter and socialism makes a long drive in the DPRK.
U.S. Imperialists' Reckless War Game Flayed
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists' madcap "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises against the DPRK in south Korea are, no doubt, an undisguised military threat and blackmail and a grave war action against it, states a Rodong Sinmun commentary Monday.
The joint military drill based on a simulated swift hurling of massive U.S. reinforcements on to the Korean front and a strong support to it by the south Korean army in a "contingency" on the Korean Peninsula is a renamed replica of the "Team Spirit" joint military exercises, a large-scale three-dimensional nuclear war rehearsal staged earlier, the analyst notes, and continues:
The United States intends to finally check up and round off its preparedness to launch into a nuclear attack upon the north any moment. The "Ulji Focus Lens" is a test war designed to finalize the commanding and operational system of the forces of aggression and give the finishing touch to the war preparations.
Nobody can guarantee that the on-going war game may not go over to an actual war.
The massive military maneuvers of the U.S. are a downright challenge to peace and an ill-advised criminal act bringing dark clouds of war to the Korean Peninsula.
The war game is so grave because it is a war action declaring the Korean Armistice Agreement null and void.
The current developments give a clear answer as to who is chiefly to blame for beclouding the prospect of the settlement of the nuclear issue, escalating the military standoff and tension on the Korean Peninsula and driving the situation to the brink of war. The U.S. imperialists are the very harasser of peace and security of the Korean Peninsula and chief criminal of war.
The U.S. would be well advised to promptly drop its harebrained foolish hope of realizing its wild aggressive ambition against the DPRK by strength, looking straight into the latter's independent stand and will of retaliation.
Move to Transfer U.S. Forces' Ground for Bomb-Dropping Exercises Protested
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- The members of the Kunsan measure committee for checking the transfer of the U.S. forces' ground for bomb-dropping exercises in Maehyang-ri to Jik Islet in south Korea reportedly staged a demonstration on Aug. 22 in protest against the move of the south Korean military authorities to push forward the transfer of the ground.
The members disclosed the fact that the "Ministry of National Defense" deliberately kept under wraps the agreement it had reached with the U.S. on transferring its forces' bomb-dropping ground in Maehyang-ri to Jik Islet, Kunsan, North Jolla Province and installing automatic mark-registering equipment there.
Accusing the ministry of working hard to turn Kunsan into a core military base of the U.S. forces in a bid to help the U.S. forces present in south Korea to realize their "strategic flexibility," they declared that they would not overlook the military authorities' act of deceiving the people but check their moves to push ahead with the transfer of the ground by the efforts of the citizens.
U.S. Imperialists' Arbitrary Practice Assailed
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Monday in a signed commentary discloses the fact that the U.S. embassy in Seoul has used the land and buildings free of charge for several decades.
The present premises of the U.S. embassy were one time used by the USAID, an organization for economic plunder. It stipulated the "right to free use of the land and the buildings" in the "Memorandum of Understanding" signed with south Korea in 1960.
However, the USAID stopped its activities in south Korea in September 1980, reducing the MOU to a dead paper. The U.S. has so far refused to pay the rent under the pretext of "validity of the MOU," asserting that some officials of the USAID are still at work in the U.S. embassy.
This is a far-fetched assertion and brigandish behavior unprecedented in the history of world diplomacy, the commentary notes, and goes on:
The U.S. seems to regard south Korea as its hereditary estate and imposes any demand upon it as a law, utterly indifferent to international practice. How brazen-faced this American way of thinking is.
Of late the U.S. has gone the lengths of forcing the south Korean authorities to cover even the expenses for the transfer of its military bases now under way according to its military strategy.
This fact alone goes to clearly prove that the south Korea-U.S. "alliance" is not "equal and true friendly relations" as claimed by the pro-U.S sycophants and traitors in south Korea but the relationship in which south Korea is totally dependent on the U.S. in all fields including politics, economy and the military and that the U.S. imperialists are the most shameless aggressors and plunderers as they have brought only unspeakable misfortune, sufferings and damage to the south Korean people.
The recently disclosed fact teaches a lesson that the south Korean people can never escape disgrace, insult, looting and damage unless the sycophancy towards the U.S. is rooted out in south Korea.
They should clearly see through the true design of the U.S. for aggression and plunder and wage a more courageous just and patriotic struggle to put an end to the history of disgrace and misfortune.

Lecture Meeting Held in India
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- A lecture meeting was held by the Indian Youth Group for the Study of Works of Comrade Kim Il Sung on Aug. 23 on the occasion of the Youth Day in the DPRK.
Exhibited at the venue of the lecture meeting were photos showing the exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in leading the youth movement and the feats of the Korean young people.
The chairman of the group said in a lecture on the subject of "Idea of attaching importance to youth in Korea" that Kim Il Sung started his revolutionary activity from the work with youth and performed the undying feats with the policy of attaching importance to youth in the whole period of leading the revolution of Korea.
Noting that his idea and policy are being enriched by the Songun policy of Kim Jong Il, the chairman stressed that only victory and glory are in store for the Korean youth movement which has entered into a new high stage under his wise leadership.
"Ulji Focus Lens" Joint Military Drill under Fire
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- The Sri Lanka-People's Korea Friendship Association and the Sri Lanka Committee for the Reunification of Korea issued a joint statement on Aug. 23 in denunciation of "Ulji Focus Lens" joint military exercises staged in south Korea.
Noting that the exercises, which are being staged at the time when the moves of the U.S. and its followers to isolate and stifle the DPRK are going to extremes, are a grave military provocation against the peace-loving DPRK, the statement demanded an immediate end to the exercises.
Expressing positive support and solidarity with the Korean people in their struggle to drive the U.S. troops out of south Korea and achieve independent and peaceful reunification of the country, it evinced the belief that Korea's reunification, the long-cherished desire of the Korean nation, will be certainly realized under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Repeal of NSL Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- Kwon Jung Hui, chairman of the Society for National Spirit in south Korea, reportedly issued a commentary on Aug. 24 in demand of the repeal of the "National Security Law" (NSL).
The NSL is a rehashed version of the "Law on the Maintenance of Public Order" enacted by the Japanese imperialists to suppress the Korean nation and it is, in fact, little different from a law for the maintenance of power, the commentary said. It held that the NSL must be scrapped at once, being an evil law against humanity, nation, independence, reunification and peace and a tool for crushing the freedom of thought and propping up power by clinging to the coattails of outside forces.
Denouncing the authorities for arresting Kim Son Ju, permanent research member of the People's Rights Institute of south Korea, on the charge of violation of the NSL, it said that repealing the evil law is a historical responsibility and road of patriotism of the south Korean people in the June 15 era.
Young People Called upon to Play Pace-Setter's Role in All Fields
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- The Korean youth movement will always emerge victorious as long as there are the invincible ranks of youth advancing along the road of the Juche revolution indicated by the "Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU)" and the great Workers' Party of Korea's idea of attaching importance to the youth and its leadership. Rodong Sinmun today says this in an editorial dedicated to the Youth Day.
The history of the youth movement in the DPRK is a proud one in which the movement has advanced along the most correct path indicated by President Kim Il Sung since it was started by him, the editorial notes, and goes on:
Kim Jong Il is the great leader of the Korean youth movement as he successfully embodied the President's unique idea of the youth movement and has trained the youth as reliable successors to the cause of Juche that started from the days of the DIU.
The ideological and moral traits of the Korean youth have reached an exceptionally high stage in the era of Songun led by Kim Jong Il.
All the youth should hold aloft the banner of devotedly defending the leader generation after generation, the banner dating back to the early period of the Korean revolution.
The core of the tradition of the Korean youth movement is to devotedly defend the leader.
It is the most honorable mission and duty for the younger generation, the proud successors to the tradition of the Korean youth movement, to become fighters and standard-bearers implementing Kim Jong Il's Songun idea and line.
It is an important task before the young people to fully display their honor of being vanguard and a shock force in every work site for the building of a great prosperous powerful nation.
They should stubbornly fight for the final victory in the revolution with the firm faith in socialism of Korean style.
They should also turn out in the drive to learn from the revolutionary soldier culture with the determination to become pioneers in establishing new culture representing the times.
